"What is your problem?"
"Well if it isn't the wicked witch of the west," Alex greeted, turning to face one angry Original. "They aren't red, but have you come to steal my shoes?"
"Oh shut your mouth," Rebekah snapped. "I'm tired of you being disrespectful and saying hateful things for no reason!"
"Oh I have a reason, trust me sweet heart," Alex said sourly.
"Then what are your reasons?"
"Don't you have some place to be? No Stefan tonight? Is he already sick and tired of you?"
Rebekah slapped him across the face and he nodded slowly, pressing his tongue against his cheek. "Don't bring him into this," She said.
"Already so defensive of him, are you? I don't blame you, he's practically a baby vampire. I bet her doesn't last a year with your brothers."
"Is that what this is about? Stefan? Are you jealous of him?" Alex didn't reply and looked away, glaring at her. "You're the one that let me go Alex, you're the one that didn't want me anymore!" Rebekah yelled.
"I never stopped wanting you Rebekah," Alex said, dropping his head back.
"But you want Caroline more." It was a statement, not a question, and he had avoided it long enough, time to face the music.
"You're right," He agreed, walking over to her until there was no space between them. "I want Caroline." But then his lips were on hers, brushing over hers over and over again. He gently coaxed her mouth open and rolled his tongue against hers, hitting all the spots he knew she would like. He finally pulled away and starred down at her intensely, brushing his thumb against her swollen lips. "I want Caroline," He repeated, seeing the hurt flash in her eyes. "I want her happy and to live her own life. I want her to fall in love, be happy, live past 2,00 so I can make fun of her old ass. I want her bright smile and those dangerous green eyes to glare at me and scold me. I want her to fight my fights for me so we can argue about it and then make up the next day. I want Caroline in my life."
Tears were Rebekah's eyes and she moved her head, trying to move away completely. He grabbed the back of her head with on hand while his arm wrapped around her waist, keeping her close to him. "I want you in my life. I want you happy and I want you to live your life with me by your side. I want you to fall even deeper and madder in love with me, to be happy with me. I want you to live past 2,000 so I can call you my cougar. I want to see your bright smile and those baby blue's. I want you to fight my fights to we can argue and have angry sex and then in the morning make up and have make up sex. I want you in my life Rebekah." She was fully crying now and clutching at his shirt, keeping his close to her this time. "I want my sister in my life, and I want the love of my life to be in my life," Alex continued softly. Their lips met in a slow, sweet kiss, and Alex pulled away, wiping the tears off her cheeks.
"Alex," Rebekah whispered, touching his face.
"Unfortunately, you can't always get what you want."
She closed her eyes and moved away from him. It felt like a thousand bricks just hit her chest. This man had just made her heart soar, and then brought it crushing back down in an instant.
"Rebekah."
"It was fun while it lasted, wasn't it?"
"The best time of my life," Alex admitted.
She took another step back and wiped the tears away completely. She was done crying for this man, for any man. "I should be use to this, people leaving me," She muttered.
"No baby," He whispered, taking her hands. "I'm not leaving you, I'm let you go."
"What if I don't want to be let go?"
"No one wants to be let go, they need someone to do it for them, and that's what I'm doing. This is the hardest thing I've even had to do Rebekah, but it's the best thing I could ever do for you." He kissed her once more before placing one on her forehead. "Goodbye Rebekah."
She closed her eyes, and when she opened them, he was gone.
He felt amazing. Alive for the first time in many years. He supposed he should have felt sad, and mourn, but mourning wouldn't bring her back, and he wouldn't want to.
She served a good, long filled life, and he kept his promise to her. Now it was time for a new general.
He watched as the one known as Damon led the doppelganger to the back of the bar where he proceeded to pull her to his lap and kiss her. Mikael couldn't help but roll his eyes. Kids these days. He stood up, tired of seeing this and headed towards the couple.
"Back in my day, such actions would lead to shame and death."
The doppelganger scrambled up and stood while her protective boyfriend stood up as well.
"Let me guess, Mikael, right?" He asked. "All of you Originals have that cocky arrogance to you."
"That seems to be something we have in common, Damon," Mikael hissed.
"I don't know why you came, but you wasted your time, see-"
Mikael had enough and stepped forward and snapped his neck, watching his body crumble to the floor. He hated all of the young vamps. Arrogant fools.
The doppelganger backed up slowly, and looked at him, her eyes radiating with fear.
"I won't kill you Elena," He said. "Not permanently anyway."
Her eyes widened and she took off running, but he easily caught her. He fisted her hair in his hands and yanked her close to him. "I prefer blondes, but you'll do," He hissed, before his fangs pierced the side of her neck.
"The girl who sacrificed her life for this family is dying as we speak, maybe already dead, while you sit here and continue to drink."
"I don't need you to lecture me Elijah," Klaus said, bringing the bottle of to his lips. It was suddenly ripped away and he stood up, glaring at Elijah.
"You are acting like a child only because something didn't happen your way," Elijah snapped. "The woman that you are too foolish to admit you care about is dying for you, the least you can do is go to her and show some appreciation."
"You want me to watch her die?" Klaus asked.
"I want you to be by her side while she sacrifices herself for you."
Klaus swallowed and looked away. Whatever he was going to say was cut off by Elijah's phone ringing. "Yes?"
If Klaus hadn't been drinking so much he would have been able to hear what was said, but he wasn't focused enough, and was too busy focusing on his own thoughts. Elijah was pushing him to go to Caroline, be with her, knowing Elijah he even wanted him to apologize for his actions. He had seen so many people he knew and cared about die, did he really want to see the one girl that had gotten under his skin die as well?
"Niklaus."
He looked over at Elijah, and everything froze around him. It seemed he wouldn't have to make that choice, it was taken away from him. Elijah didn't have to say anything, he immediately ran.
He got to the witch's house in no time at all and threw open the door. "Caroline!" He shouted, rushing in the room that they were preforming the spell. He skidded to a stop, and his world seemed to shatter. He found himself taking a step forward, dropping to his knees next to Caroline's corpse. Bonnie was cradling her head in her lap, crying.
"What happened?" Elijah asked.
Klaus starred down at her peaceful face, his angel, his savior, his salvation. She was gone, out of this world, out of his life, and out of his arms. The only word he heard out of the witch's mouth was Mikael, and that's all he really needed.
He pushed up to his feet and stormed towards the door, his intention clear from the look on his face.
"Niklaus," Elijah tried, pressing a hand on his shoulder.
"I'm going to kill the man that killed my girl Elijah, I suggest you move," Klaus growled, his eyes flashing amber.
"In your state you will get killed," Elijah argued.
Klaus grabbed the hand that was on his shoulder and brought it up to his mouth, sinking his teeth into Elijah's wrist, injecting his venom in Elijah.
Elijah cried out and dropped to the floor and Klaus didn't pay him any attention, continuing his way out the door.
"She isn't dead Klaus," Bonnie called after him. Klaus froze and cocked his head to the side, waiting for the witch to go on. "I didn't complete the spell, at least not fully."
He spun around and faced the witch, glaring at her. "Explain."
She swallowed hard and got up on her knees. "I linked her and Mikael together at the last second. Caroline will use him as her anchor."
"What are you trying to say?" Klaus growled.
"She's alive."
Klaus gently laid her on the bed and moved the hair off her face. His hand travelled down her cheek and neck and rested on the stake in her chest.
"Don't. I don't know what will happen if you take that out."
"Suddenly you seem so concerned for the women you kicked out of your life just hours ago," Klaus said coolly.
"I kicked her out of my house, not my life Klaus," Bonnie sighed.
"Easy to say such things now," Klaus said.
"You don't have to lecture me on such things," Bonnie snapped, glaring at him. "I know I screwed up, okay? No one can judge me as much as I judge myself." Neither of them said anything after that, instead chose to look at their fallen friend. "The only thing that passed through my head when Mikael stabbed her was, what now? What was I supposed to do now? Who was I supposed to be now?"
Klaus looked up and watched as the witch continued to talk.
"Caroline was the only constant in my life ever since I was a little. I remember one day me and grams got into it because I thought my mom didn't love me since she was never around. Caroline showed up that day and comforted me and told me that someone would always love me and be there for me. The older I got, and the more people I lost, the more convinced I came that that person would be her, and that she would be the one, the only one that never would leave me.
"That's why when I realized what the spell called for, what she wanted me to do, I freaked out. She promised I would always be loved, and then she wanted me to take away the only one in my eyes that I thought truly loved me."
Bonnie shook her head, clearing her throat, trying to fight back the tears.
"I would have no one that loved me anymore, so I put distance between us, convinced myself that this was better, that if I hated her, made her hate me, it would be better, it would be easier." Bonnie smiled and touched Caroline's chest, right above the stake. "It only made it harder."
Bonnie left the room shortly after that, and Klaus continued to stand there, starring at Caroline. It was harder, he decided. Trying not to love someone unconditionally and without barrios and defenses. Trying not to love someone with every part of your being, giving a part of yourself to them, because in an instant, it could all be taken away. But in the end, all that love would come rushing through your body and crush you.
He sat next to her and stroked her smooth cheek. "Your witch makes some valid points," Klaus said. "I suppose I was attempting to do the same thing. I have it a little easier than her, seeing as I can turn my emotions off any time I want. I had no problem doing that over the centuries when the need ever arose. This time around, I couldn't seem to do it, and I realize why, I realize that by doing that, I would only hurt you more, and I couldn't do that to someone I love. I love you Caroline.
"Should we tell her?" Kol asked, watching Bonnie clean up her already spotless house.
"Tell who?" Elijah asked distracted.
"Bonnie. Should we tell her about our brothers love for her best friend?" Kol asked.
"It isn't her business Kol, nor is it yours," Elijah sighed, giving up on his suit. A blood stain was a pain to get rid of, he would just have to get rid of the shirt. He had plenty, it wasn't a big deal, but he enjoyed the shirt and was upset that Niklaus has to ruin it.
"You were listening as well," Kol said.
"For signs that Caroline was awake," Elijah said.
"Uhuh."
"I created her Kol, I consider her my responsibility."
"It's a little late for that, don't you think? You had 900 years to play daddy, you're a little late," Kol said.
"I don't expect you to understand the need to protect what's yours Kol."
Kol thought about what he said while he watched Bonnie continue to clean up. "I understand it fully Elijah."
Two, maybe three chapters left everyone! I already have everything planned out and I'm excited to see it end! Reviews are nice :)
