Bonnie sprinkled salt in a large circle around her working table, muttering under her breath prayers to her ancestors for strength. Also praying that the spell would work and not back fire in all of there faces. It was dangerous and if she thought to much about it, she would get nauseous and chicken out. What if she failed?
No. She couldn't fail. If that happened, everyone, literally everyone, would die. Nobody pointed that out, no one wanted to admit it, but Bonnie was well aware of the risk and found them all too frightening.
"I hope this works," She muttered, throwing a handful of salt behind her.
"Hey!" Kol yelled, brushing the salt off his shirt.
"Deal with it," Bonnie said shortly.
"It'll work Bonnie," Caroline said softly.
"What if it doesn't?"
"Then we're screwed."
"Kol," Caroline warned, but focused on Bonnie. "I belive in you Bonnie."
She took a deep breath and nodded her head, looking down at the spell sitting on the table before beginning.
Caroline was secretly hoping it wouldn't fail either. She hid her doubt well, knowing if she was worrying, everyone else, especially Bonnie, would be worrying too. She knew what the worst case scenario was when she proposed this plan to everyone, and she had thought them through and was willing to go with whatever happened. Not everyone was willing to take the same risk she was though.
Klaus immediately tried to shoot down the idea and convince them to do something else, to come up with another plan, do anything but what they had plan. He didn't get it though, he wasn't thinking straight.
There simply wasn't enough time to come up with another plan, and there certainly wasn't any plans they could just turn to on the fly.
He still wasn't happy with it, but he had accepted it, but Caroline could still sense his nerves, and the anger that was rolling off him, and if this failed, if their plan took a turn for the worst, that's not how she wanted their last moments to be like.
She walked over to him, and touched his arm, and he turned his head and looked at her. He forced a smile that didn't reach his eyes.
She smiled weakly at him, and he pushed himself off the wall. "Fancy a walk love?" He asked.
She nodded and they walked out of the house together, hands brushing as Caroline led them off the main path and into the woods. Klaus finally grabbed her hand and tugged her to a stop, and she glanced at him, fearing what he was going to say.
Last time they were put into this type of situation, he left her. They had just gotten back together, and she wasn't sure she could handle it if he left again.
"I'm not mad at you Caroline," He muttered.
"You're mad at someone," She said.
He opened his mouth and then closed it, looking away from her. "I'm upset with the situation," He finally said.
"But I caused the situation. I'm the reason there is even a situation, so that makes you mad at me," She rushed, words tumbling out of her mouth before she could stop herself.
His lips tugged into a smile and she immediately got upset. "This isn't funny!" She snapped. "All day I've been freaking out all day thinking you're upset with me and thinking that you were going to leave me, and then"
"I love you"
"you laugh at me!" She froze and looked at him, shock written all over her pretty features. She starred at Klaus like he was an it instead of a person, and she looked like she was about to back away from him and run.
"You don't have to say anything right now," He continued, cupping her cheek, insuring she wouldn't go anywhere. He stepped closer until there lips brushed against one another's. "When you say it, I want you to mean it," He whispered.
"But," She began, and he silenced her with an earth shattering kiss that made her head spin with passion. His mouth dominated hers, and she was helpless to do anything but let it happen. She was vaguley aware of her back hitting a tree, and if she had any air left in her lungs, it would have left with the force of Klaus's body slamming into hers.
He reached inbetween their bodys and yanked her shirt off, quickly moving on to her pants, yanking them down and ripping her underwear completely off her body before lifting her up and filling her in one fell swoop.
She gasped and rested her forehead against his, and he remained still, savoring the feelings of being inside her tight, wet heat. They breathed in each others air and shared this sweet, intimate moment.
"Do your spell Caroline," He muttered. "I'll be here waiting."
He pulled out before pushing back into her body, drawing a moan from her.
"I'll always be here."
"Are you sure you're ready for this Bonnie?"
"Yes Kol," She snapped, refusing to look at him.
"If you mess up, everyone will die."
"I won't mess up."
"Are you sure?"
She gritted her teeth and tried to ignore him, but he never seemed to shut up.
"Lets see, Caroline will die for sure, and if I had to guess, She would die first. Of course Klaus would go next, trying to save her. Then Elijah most likely, probably trying to get revenge. Then the Salvatores, just because Mikael will need a new servant person and will probably try and take Elena. Rebekah if I know my sister, will run, and look for a way to kill Mikael. She will fail, and die next. Now, I obviously will live, just because I'm the smartest in this family, and will do what it takes to survive, even if that means making a deal with the devil."
"And when will I die?" Bonnie couldn't help but ask.
"You don't. You go on the run, using your witchy spells to keep yourself alive, and hidden so Mikael can't find you. Most likely five, maybe ten years you'll get by, but you'll get sloppy, make a mistake," he said, hands buried in his pockets and walking closer to her.
"Then what will happen?" She was playing right into his trap, and she knew she was, but she wanted to know.
"And then I find you," he said simply.
"And once you find me?"
His lips tugged into a smirk as he placed his palms on the table, leaning close to her. "Well, I suppose that would depend on you Bonnie, but if I think I know you like I do, it'll just be like it was earlier, except this time we'll make it pass the hallway."
Bonnie's eyes widened and she suddenly found it getting hotter in the room. "No," She found herself saying. "Even if all that happened, I would never give in to you," Bonnie said.
"I doubt that Bonnie, you always give in, especially when it comes to someone getting in your pants," Alex said, walking into he room. "What happened in the hallway?"
"I want to know to," Caroline said as her and Klaus walked in right behind Alex.
"Nothing happened," Bonnie said quickly.
"I hate to see what you consider something," Kol snorted.
"What happened in the hallway?" Rebekah asked.
"Better not be in my hallway," Damon said.
"We have more important matters to deal with rather then worry about what happened between Kol and the witch," Klaus said. "We have a spell to do."
"Where is Elena?" Bonnie asked.
"With Stefan," Damon replied.
"Did she already realize the mistake in her actions and ran back to the rippah?" Klaus smirked.
Damon glared at him and looked like he was about to say something when the door opened once more and in walked Elena and Stefan.
"Speak of the devil and he shall appear," Caroline muttered.
What's going on?" Stefan asked.
"We're about to start the spell," Caroline said, walking towards Bonnie.
"Already?" Elena whispered, eyes widening.
"You aren't backing out, are you?" Caroline asked with raised eyebrows.
"The time for backing out is over doppelganger," Klaus growled.
"She'll do the spell, calm down," Damon snapped while Elena looked unsure.
"I," She stuttered, before turning and attempted to run out the room.
Caroline flashed in front of her and forced her to stumble back. "I am risking everything for you," She snarled. "I'm risking Bonnie, I'm risking Klaus, Elijah, Rebekah, and Kol's life, and I'm risking my life. All for you. So you can turn around and do this willingly or I'll throw you in there and force you to do it." Elena still looked unsure and Caroline growled low in her throat, grabbing her arm and dragging her into the room. "Hard way it is." She ignored the complaints from Stefan and Damon and walked her over so she stood in front of Bonnie.
"Lets begin, shall we?"
Caroline laid on the Salvatores couch, eyes closed and focusing on breathing in and out. Everyone had left and it was just down to her. She knew it would happen like that, knew in the end, it would come down to her. It always came down to her.
A sniffle interrupted her. She opened her eyes and starred up at the ceiling, counting to ten for patience. Another sniffle and she growled out a warning. Twenty more minutes passed before the sniffled started again.
"You won't make it to when Mikael comes if you keep it up," She said, a second past, and then a sniffle. This one on purpose. Caroline sat up and glared at the doppelganger.
Elena straightened up and wiped the tears off of her cheeks. "Will it hurt?" She asked softly.
"If I had my way it would," Caroline muttered.
"Why do you hate me so much?"
Caroline stood and stretch out. "I just don't like you.
"There has to be a reason. I haven't done anything to you," Elena argued.
"You exist, that's what you did," Caroline snorted. "You doppelgangers cause nothing but trouble. Every since last one of you."
"Just because of what Katherine did-"
"Not just Katherine, it was Amara, Tatia, Katherine, and now it's you. Nothing but pain in the asses," Caroline said.
"Wait, are you saying there were other doppelgangers?" Elena asked.
"Yes Elena, you come from a very long line of doppelgangers," Caroline said, rubbing her temples.
"How come we've never heard of them before?"
"It's very old history, long before vampires ever existed," Caroline shrugged.
"History I didn't share with you so you could run around and tell whoever you please."
I didn't realize there were rules," Caroline said, standing up and stretching out.
"There were always rules."
"Sorry I didn't get the memo," She said, turning around and squaring her shoulders. "I'd asked you to resend it, but I don't think it'll matter soon."
Elena looked like she was about to pass out and moved closer to Caroline, turning the attention on her.
"I take it you received my message?"
"Loud and clear," Caroline smiled. "But let's see if you get my message." She grabbed Elena and yanked her to her, tilting her head to the side and sinking her teeth into her neck. Elena struggled, but Caroline sucked harder until she went limp and the life ebbed out of her body.
She let her drop to the ground and looked at him.
"Did you receive my message?" She asked, licking her lips.
She stepped over her body and closer to Mikael. "One thing you taught me Mikael that I'll keep with me, even after I kill you, is to never leave loose ends and Elena was nothing but a loose end.
Mikael straightened up and glared at her. "Foolish girl."
"As much as I enjoy our usual banter, I'd rather just get this over with," Caroline said.
"You were the greatest commander," He said, shrugging out off her jacket.
"You were a good teacher," Caroline said. "But the biggest dick I've ever known."
And so it began. Honestly, there was no other way to end this, and if you ask either participant, they knew it would end like this, they both just thought there would be different results. Mikael wouldn't lose, but Caroline couldn't lose.
Vampire strength was over rated, Caroline decided at the same moment a stake drove through the same spot she was a second go. You could be the strongest man alive, and do unimaginable damage, something Mikael no doubt could do, but he had to catch her first.
She flashed away and ended up behind him, shoving him against the wall and shoving a stake into his side, gritting her teeth and keeping quite. She wouldn't show the pain, and she couldn't let him touch her. She dug the stake deeper and twisted, making it dig into his kidney, and in the process, into her kidney.
He cried out, and his back arched away, causing his neck to move closer to Caroline. She grabbed his hair and yanked him closer, letting her fangs extend and sank them into his flesh.
He snarled in anger and threw an elbow her way. She jumped away, taking her teeth out of his neck in the process. She backed away and they just starred at each other. Caroline continued backing up until her feet hit Elena. She glanced down and looked back up at Mikael who kept walking closer.
"It didn't have to end this way," He said.
"You were going to kill me anyway," She shot back.
"Not this way. You would have had a warriors death," he growled.
"A true warrior dies fighting," Caroliune said, panting. She produced a white oak stake from her coat and Mikael's eyes darkened at the sight of it.
"Do you plan on using that, or are you going to stand there all day?" He snarled.
Caroline flexed her wrist and opened her mouth when her wrist was grabbed and yanked up and back, the stake ripping through her chest and ribcage, straight to her heart. She gasped and fell back against Elena's peptie frame. She was become to acquainted with the darkness, she decided right before she slipped away into blackness.
Elena wanted to catch Caroline, but knew she couldn't, so she let her drop. Starring at her in shock. What now? She glanced up at Mikael who was watching her.
"Seems you did my job for me," he said, walking towards her.
She attempted to move back, but the couch was there.
Mikael crouched down next to Caroline's body and rolled her over and her face was showing. He touched her cheek lovingly. "Foolish girl," He said, standing up.
Elena glanced at the door, and when she looked back, Mikael was there.
He bunched up her hair and roughly tugged her head to the side, revealing her neck. "Seeing as you killed my commander, I'm in need of a knew one," He said.
Elena's eyes widened and she starred up at him in pure fear. His eyes flashed red and his fangs revealed themselves, and just as he lowered his mouth to her neck, he jerked back and stumbled against the fire place, clutching at his heart. He looked down before looking at Elena who backed away from him.
He went to lunge at her, but fell. He struggled and attempted to get on his knees, but a boot crushed in-between his shoulders and shoved him back down. Klaus crouched downer and grabbed his hair, forcing him to look at him.
"See you in hell old man," He said, letting his head drop and watching as his former father turned into a gray, cold, lifeless body. Klaus wasted no time going over to Caroline and picking her up, ignoring everyone else around them and carrying her out of that house.
"I've got you love, I've got you," He whispered.
Flashback to earlier conversation with Bonnie:
"Just hear me out," Caroline said.
Bonnie looked unsure, but Caroline continued anyway.
"There's a way we can kill Mikael, without killing Elena."
"How, she's part of his bloodline," Bonnie said, shaking her head.
"So make her part of mine."
"A spell like that doesn't exist Caroline."
"Not exactly."
"What?"
"We'll finish Elena's transition, and the blood she'll drink will be mine, and that will link her with me for a short while, and when I die along with Mikael, that will give you the chance to change the bloodlines, along with the Original powers."
"I don't know," Bonnie said, biting her lip.
"I need you to trust me Bonnie," Caroline said, clutching her hand. "Will you?"
Flashback ended
Klaus laid her on the ground, and grabbed a hold of the white oak stake and ripped it out of her body. He say next to her and pulled her up so she was sitting in his lap, just holding her until she woke up.
It took about an hour before she finally stirred, and Klaus tightened his arms around her. She moved a bit before her eyes fluttered open and met hers. "Hey," she smiled weakly.
"Hey beautiful," He smiled.
"Did I miss anything?" She asked.
"Nothing important," He said.
She touched his cheek, making sure he was real. "God, I was so scarred I would fail," She whispered.
"Me too," He said, resting his forehead against hers. She closed her eyes and they just sat there together. He moved his head down so their lips could press against one another in a hello kiss.
"What was that for?" Caroline whispered when they pulled away.
He smiled and stroked her cheek. "Happy birthday Caroline."
