A/N: Merry Christmas/Happy whatever winter holiday you celebrate! Here's a Christmas special for you guys.
It's fluff.
Literally absolute fluff.
There is no point to this chapter other than to make you feel good. I'm pretty sure I got a cavity from writing this.
Fluff.
Enjoy!
Christmas Cuddles
"C'mon Bunny! This is fun!"
The Pooka waved from his place on the sidelines, "Think I'm good Frostbite."
Jack circled back around, gliding to a stop in front of Bunny, "Aww, c'mon! If I can skate, you can."
"Don't think it exactly works like that kiddo," The elder guardian raised an eyebrow, "I don't exactly have the feet for ice skates."
"Then don't wear them!"
"I don't fancy cold feet."
"Pleeease?" Jack widened his eyes, clasping his hands together as he resolutely ignored North running into the wall once again, "Come on Bunny, just try it!" He let his lip wobble for good measure.
Aster sighed as he watched Tooth careen around the rink, arms out and mouth open in shock. A quick peek at Jack made his resolve waver. Since when did the teen know how to look cute?
"Pleasepleasepleasepleaseplease?" Blue eyes stared at Bunny, trying to mentally force him into complying.
North's arms pinwheeled in the background and Sandy floated easily out of the way of the big man. The Cossack tried to stop, but ended up slipping comically and landing butt first on the ice. Tooth giggled as she glided away from North, finally having gotten the hang of skating in a straight line.
Sandy smiled serenely as North tried to get up but ended up falling back down seconds later. Jack, to his credit didn't spare a glance in his direction, focusing all his attention on Bunny.
"Oh, come on Bunny! It's fun!" Tooth called from the other side of the rink.
North scooted toward the wall, using the bricks to prop himself back up, "Yes, is very fun!" He called in their general direction before waving the Pooka over. Unfortunately, by taking his arm off the wall he threw off his balance once again and with a "Whoa oh!" he was down on the ice for the third time.
Bunny looked away from the amusing sight and sighed as he realized that Jack still hadn't moved.
"No," he shook his head, resting his forearms on the metal barrier between him and the ice.
Jack let his eyes water, pout becoming more prominent as he whispered, " . . . Please?"
Bunny locked eyes with the winter spirit and for a split second he thought he might actually win the battle. But then Jack ducked his head down with disappointment and he felt all his resolve disappear.
He sighed with exasperation, "Fine."
Jack looked up so quickly that he cricked his neck. He smiled blindingly, bouncing slightly, "YES! Come on!" He pulled on Bunny's paw and nearly yanked him over the railing by sheer willpower.
"Calm down Frosty," Bunny said, clambering over the barrier and clenching his paws tightly around the metal so that he wouldn't go sliding.
The ice rink was a new addition to the Pole, something North had come up with after Jack had frozen over half the globe room for skating on. Add that on to the fact that it was a day after Christmas and the Guardians had met up to celebrate, and you had yourselves a roomful of amateur skaters plus one winter sports enthusiast.
"It's so awesome, come on! You can't hang around the edge all day!" Jack was nearly bursting with excitement as he pushed at Bunny's shoulders, trying to get him to actually skate.
Sandy nodded in encouragement.
Aster took a breath and glared at Jack, "If I fall, you're comin' down with me."
The teen rolled his eyes, "I'm not gonna let you fall. I'm not that mean."
"Then vhy are you letting me fall down?" North asked loudly as he slipped again.
Jack grinned and responded quietly enough that only Bunny could hear, "Because it's funny."
That reply startled Aster into laughing and releasing his grip on the bar. He gasped (not that he'd ever admit that he did such a thing) and tried to grab it again, but Jack had already pushed him toward the center of the rink.
"Whoa! Whoa!" Bunny felt one foot slid out from under him and heard Jack grunt, trying to keep him upright.
Tooth clapped cheerfully when she saw the Pooka on the ice, back to back with the youngest Guardian who was supporting Aster, "Whoo! Go Bunny!" She called helpfully.
"Ah, oh no! Strewth! Knew I shouldn't have done this!" Bunny yelped, arms pinwheeling.
Jack hollered at him, "Calm down! Go slowly!"
"What do ya' think I'm trying to do?" The Pooka cried in response.
North laughed heartily from his kneeling position on the ice as the duo skidded around the rink, both yelling at the other. Tooth tried to stop herself from giggling, but wasn't very successful as she leaned against the wall, away from the danger zone. Sandy snickered silently and did a few back-flips, at least until Bunny slammed into him.
There were three loud cries as the trio went down, one coming from North who tried in vain to get out of the way of the pile of sliding Guardians. He acted as the stopping point as Bunny, Jack, and Sandy bounced into him.
Soon, only Tooth was left giggling, hovering out of the way as the four tried to right themselves and get off the ice. There was a lot of yelling and indignant responses, but eventually, all five Guardians made their way off the ice, relatively unharmed.
Bunny and Tooth were shivering, so North suggested that maybe they should head back to the family room for hot cocoa. Even Jack agreed.
Sandy smiled with professional pride as he took in the sight. Empty mugs littered the floor and the tree lights glittered like shimmering stars in the lowly lit room. The fire was nearly ashes, and wrapping paper was wadded up in small balls near the corners of the room. The stockings hung on the mantle once again for no reason at all.
It looked like Christmas.
North's snoring and the crackling from the fireplace were the only sounds in the room. The big man himself was conked out on the rug, beard touching the ground, and chest rising and falling steadily as candy canes hovered around his head. Tooth was curled up against him, wings fluttering as she dreamed of collecting the perfect tooth. Bunny's head rested in her lap, one leg thumping occasionally against the leg of the coffee table. Jack's hair blended in with North's beard as he curled his toes into Bunny's fur and rested his head on his arms.
It was a new tradition they had started a few years ago, not that they called it that. Cuddling on Christmas was just something that seemed to happen, thanks to the Sandman.
The dreamweaver himself floated close to the pile of Guardians, resting in between Tooth and Jack, smiling peacefully.
Christmas was so much better nowadays.
Merry Christmas! A couple of quick notes:
1. I know you're tired of hearing me say this, but chapters are under construction. I should hopefully be done with W.W. soon.
2. My beta had to quit for personal reasons, so if you or someone you know would like to beta for me, please let me know. I don't bite!
Wishing you the best!
