Alfred stood nervously in front of the mirror, biting his lower lip. It seemed wrong. It really, really did. It felt wrong. It looked wrong. Well, it looked good, but it still looked wrong. It had to be wrong.

"I'm telling you, no one will suspect a thing." Arthur smiled encouragingly.

"Mh-hm! It's perfect!" a young boy smiled. Peter, the Black Joker, stood just behind Alfred and to the right of Arthur, inspecting his work. "You two look like each other to start with, so it was really easy."

Arthur turned to face a different mirror. "Mathieu looks rather fine as well."

The Ace, Mathieu, had been standing in the full-length mirror to the left, looking himself over and biting his lip in the same fashion. "A-Are you sure? It feels really weird."

"You're telling me." Alfred sighed, glancing at his brother and then back at himself.

"Oh c'mon, you two! I worked really hard on you guys!" Peter pouted, reaching over to tug on Alfred's pants. "Stop sayin' it's weird! It's good!" Compared to the other Joker, the two of them were pretty similar, other than the fact that Peter was far more childish (due to actually being a child). They both had the same abilities, the same tricks, and the same powers. Peter just stayed in Hearts and Spades while Gilbert usually stayed in Diamonds and Clovers.

Arthur put a gentle hand on Alfred's shoulder and whispered into his ear, "really love, it's hard to tell that it's really you."

Alfred continued to stare at his reflection. His sky-blue eyes had been replaced by lavender ones, his straight hair with waves, and a curled strand in place of his little cowlick. His skin was paler, he was a tad taller, and his frame slightly smaller. He turned to face Mathieu, and the sight was surreal. Instead of seeing his brother, he saw himself. His hair, his eyes, his build, his coat... the mark of a Spade King on his neck and all. Except this time, the man dressed as King was an actual Alpha.

"It'll take some getting used to for sure." Mathieu muttered, looking over to see his disguised younger brother. "I'll have to respond to Alfred now."

"And me, Mathieu."

"You two will pick up on it soon enough." Arthur nodded. "Peter, you switched their scents and everything?" He asked, patting the powerful little boy on the shoulder.

"Yup! It won't last very long, but it'll work for now." He nodded, proud of himself. "Now that I've helped you guys out, can I finally have a room in the castle?" He rocked on his heels, rocking his weight from his toes to heels in excitement.

Alfred hesitated, but eventually found his voice again. "Once you're a bit older. Then maybe."

"It's so weird watching me talk! You even sound like me!" Mathieu laughed, practicing acting more like the King and burying his hands in his pockets. "I must sound like you, eh? We'll totally fool everyone."

"Until it wears off." Alfred added, looking in the mirror and wrapping his hands around his stomach. It didn't feel right. He was supposed to play Mathieu for a while, but it just- it didn't feel right. He still felt far too much like himself. His outward appearance may be changed, but on the inside, he was still Alfred. "Artie, you'd better not confuse us and start snuggling with Mattie!" He huffed, crossing his arms. "Just because he looks so damn handsome as me doesn't mean he is me!"

"You really think I'd mistake him as you?" Arthur raised an eyebrow, going over to press a small kiss to the Ace of Spades mark on Alfred's cheek. "Darling, I know it's you. I can tell- I can feel our bond through the disguise. You don't need to worry about a thing. Matthew will have to spend the night in our room, as to not raise suspicion, but I can have it arranged so you can come in too." He tried assuring him. This was brilliant. They would be able to fool the Kingdom, other Kingdoms- Ivan!- and be able to keep their secret under lock and key. Ivan would be misled through this simple deceit. Putting Mathieu in Alfred's place and Alfred's in Mathieu's would surely thwart Ivan's plans. Alfred was strong, without a doubt, but he couldn't risk freezing up once things got... difficult. Mathieu's Alpha nature would keep him from doing just that. With a little bit of lessons, they'd be acting like each other in no time.

Peter watched them, letting out a soft sigh. "Do you think we should test it out? Make sure it works before we send you guys off?" He adjusted his hat, fixing it atop his head and then looking toward Arthur.

"Yao doesn't know- we can use him." Arthur muttered softly, letting go of his Alfred and heading to the door.

Once Arthur was out the door, off to find the Jack, the King couldn't help but feel dizzy. Well, dizzier than before. The Ace look-a-like staggered over to his bed, grabbing a fistful of the blanket. It didn't feel right. It just didn't. It must've been the spell hitting him with a second wave. He was still him on the inside, only his outside changed, but it felt like it had pierced his chest and made him short of breath on the second run-through.

"Alfr- erm, M-Matt, you okay?" Matthew asked, struggling to get used to referring to his brother by his own name. It was odd, unnatural, but he could get used to it.

"Y-You didn't feel the second wave?" Alfred asked quietly, bringing his legs up onto the bed to hold himself. He needed to be close. To be warm. He felt all too cold and all too warm at the same time.

Matthew shook his head, looking down to the Joker in confusion. "I don't feel anything. Just a bit shorter. Did you do something, Peter?" Matthew placed a hand on his neck, running his fingers over the mark of a King in idle thought. His finger grazed a subtle bumb in the shape of a K. Surely Alfred could feel the A of an Ace on his cheek.

Peter shook his head, turning his attention to the mirror and deciding to play with his reflection. "Nuh-uh. I'm fresh out of magic switcheroo thingys for now." He muttered off, sticking his tongue out and making faces and trying to twist his face as much as he could.

Alfred shook his head, though it looked more like a violent shudder. "N-No, that's not right." He insisted, looking over to his doppelganger brother and squinting. He didn't look right either. Nothing was right- nothing could be right- everything was-

Everything was dark.

"Alfred- Alfred-"

"He's breathing-"

"Son of a bitch-"

"Alfred, can you hear me?"

The first thing he could see was green. Amber green. The good green.

"Thank the Mother Spade- easy- easy now."

Then blue. His own blue. He squinted. His head hurt already- and now he was incredibly confused. How could he be in two places- shit that was Mathieu. Oh, right. Mathieu.

"Prop his feet up-"

Now brown.

"Alfred- you scared the living hell out of me."

Ah, that was it. It was Arthur. Green was Arthur. Blue was Mathieu- he already knew that. That meant Yao had to be brown. Arthur was next to him. He swore he registered his scent before his touch. Arthur was closest. Then Matt. Then Yao. Okay. Why were they...?

"Don't do that to me ever again!"

Arthur had his arm draped across his stomach. Mathieu was at his feet, lifting them for Yao to place a pillow. Arthur put pillows at his sides. Alfred blinked lazily at them, letting them do as they pleased. It was- was just- They were moving him. But 'he' was Mathieu. But 'Mathieu' was him. He looked to the side gently, and in the mirror, he saw Mathieu on the bed. But he was supposed to be on the bed. The image faded away, and he was left with himself again. The spell disappaited into mist, pulling the lavender vest off his chest and leaving him with a faded cream shirt. The bangs in front of his face returned to amber. The mark on his cheek, gone, and mark on his neck, returned.

The tiny Joker stood behind Yao, holding on tightly to the Jack's pants. "It- It didn't hold." He mumbled quietly, dejectedly. "I don't know what happened."

"You could have hurt Alfred!" Arthur snapped at him, leaning over to nuzzle Alfred gently.

Alfred let out a soft breath, struggling to come to grips with what happened. He'd felt dizzy. Yes. He was sure of that. He'd felt... off. But why off? The image of his brother in the mirror whenever he looked at it had to be the case. He had sat down, and- and he was gone. Like a light- out.

"Don't- don't yell." He managed, pushing himself up. Before there could be any space between him and the pillow, Arthur had wriggled his arm in between. "What happened...?" His voice was soft, hoarse.

"You fainted." Mathieu said carefully, resting a hand on Alfred's knee. He glanced to Arhtur and received a glare in return, but kept it there regardless. "It was terrifying, really. Scared the Spade out of Arthur and Yao once they came back."

It took a moment for most of it to come back. Oh, yes, Arthur had gone to get Yao to see if the spell would work and fool him. Guess that was out of the question.

"Now what- Now what do we do?" Alfred asked, getting himself into a seated position. Arthur supported him from the back, staying close to his side and watching him carefully in case he started to sway. With two Alfreds instead of an Alfred and a Mathieu, their plan was ruined.

"We can figure something out." Arthur assured him, nudging Alfred gently to coerce him into curling against his chest. "You need to rest. Don't think. Rest. Mathieu, Yao, and I will figure something out later. Just rest, darling. Thank Mother Spade you're alright..."
