(A/N) – Re-reading some parts of the chapter 4, I realized that Pisco didn't find out about Masato's son's name (Ichirou) and yet he knew about the name in the later chapters. That's why I made Pisco to find out what is the name of Masato's son in the chapter 4 and Pisco told the boss about Masato's son being named Ichirou as well. I'm sorry for this mistake.
Enjoy the chapter.
Chapter 7
"So, they are getting married, hmm," the boss said.
Pisco stood in front of the boss and gave him the weekly report of the situation in the organization. It not only included the job that every member was responsible for, but the boss also wanted to be informed of their members' personal life. They wanted to have everything under their control.
The boss hated the fact that their workers' family problems were also problems for them. Either they didn't come to work or worse they got better job in different city and they resigned. The boss wasn't against it, if a member could be easily replaced by someone else and they had no use of them.
However, if they knew too much, the boss didn't have any choice but to kill them, even if their knowledge was useful for the science project. So far, only Atsushi and Elena had enough knowledge to create the drug that the boss needed so much, though they were aware that it would pass many years, before it would happen.
The boss knew the scientists, who were smart equally to Atsushi and Elena before, but the boss had to kill them. Even though, the boss had to start everything from the beginning, they still had the hope that they could still have what they needed. The hope came from the fact that someone else had what the boss wanted to gain. What's more that person was very loyal to the boss and they would never betray them.
"Yes, they are and in my opinion, it will be just unnecessary distraction for their work. I would not be surprise, if they would decide to quit that job, so they can spend more time together," Pisco sounded irritated, which made the boss anxious.
The boss was concerned that Pisco was right and Atsushi and Elena would focus less on the project and maybe even quit. No, they wouldn't. Both of them strongly believe in the science project's goal and both of them wish it to be completed. The boss shouldn't jump to the conclusion so fast. Atsushi's and Elena's wedding could mean good things as well. They were very talented scientists and their close relationship could mean better cooperation and maybe even the drug would be finished sooner.
Besides, if the boss really wanted to prevent those two from getting into the relationship, then he should do it two years ago, when they became a couple. The boss had to admit it, but he was really surprised by it.
Elena was rather a distrustful person and the boss was really surprised by Elena being trustful towards Atsushi. The boss doubted that Elena trusted the boss as much as she trusted Atsushi. They were not very happy about it, considering that if Elena would decide to go against the organization, she could actually be a quite dangerous enemy to the boss.
Elena was a clever person and the boss knew that if they weren't careful enough, then without notice, everything what the boss worked for would be ruined. Even though, it didn't seem that Elena had a plan in order to destroy the boss' plans and she was doing her job very well, the boss was distrustful anyway.
The boss was betrayed by the scientists before and the boss actually lost a lot, because of it. They couldn't risk it again. The boss decided to keep close eye on Elena and on Atsushi too. They really like Atsushi's excitement for the science project and how loyal he was, but the boss couldn't help it, but think that Atsushi changed towards them.
Before, Atsushi's eyes always shined with excitement or showed a fear, depending what the conversation was about between the boss and Atsushi. However, the boss noticed coldness and reluctance in Atsushi towards them. Even though, it was barely noticeable and Atsushi still showed how exciting he was to work on this science project, the boss knew he had to be careful. It would be bad to kill Atsushi and Elena and they really hoped that it would not come to this scenario.
"When, will the wedding occur?" the boss asked without showing any signs of concern.
"I'm not sure. I heard that they want the modest ceremony, so it shouldn't take too long," Pisco answered.
"And do you know who are they inviting?" the boss asked.
"Well, I doubt that they will invite lots of people, considering that both of their families are dead and I didn't see Elena and Atsushi meeting any friends since they started to work here," Pisco answered.
"Good. Let them know that they are allowed to invite only people from the organization. I do not want any outsiders. I am not going to risk the organization being exposure, because of their little wedding," the boss said with the serious voice.
"Understood."
"You can leave now."
"Yes, sir."
Elena blankly was looking at the wall. Atsushi sat next to her and he said, "You may wear the face that doesn't express anything, but I still know that you are annoyed."
Elena slowly turned her head towards Atsushi, after she sighed.
"No, I am not annoyed. I am not even surprise. It was obvious that the boss would control even our wedding."
"You're right, I'm also annoyed," Atsushi said ignoring Elena's word and he added, before Elena could protest, "I actually wanted to invite Dejima, you know my friend, who I talked about."
"The boss always cared only about himself," Elena's voice sounded coldly.
It made Atsushi wondered. Since, he met Elena, he couldn't help to notice that the boss wasn't Elena's the most favourite person. On the contrary, the boss seemed to be the least favourite person to Elena. Atsushi couldn't come up with any idea, which would explain Elena's coldness towards the boss.
At first, Atsushi thought that maybe Elena was angry at the boss, because of Masato's death, but Atsushi felt there was something more. He even asked Elena about her reasons to dislike the boss, but her reply, I hate, when someone is selfish.
It was truth that the boss killed people in order to keep the organization's goal in secret, but they still tried to create the drug that would make the world better.
There was another thing that made Atsushi confused. He decided to ask Elena about it.
"I know you don't like the boss, but how can you hate him, when you met him only once before you went off to the university and after you came back, we only talked to the boss few times, since mostly it is Pisco, who reports everything to the boss about our progresses of the science project."
"It was enough for me to meet the boss once in order to create the opinion about them," Elena replied.
Atsushi looked at her confused. He still didn't understand and how she could have the opinion about the boss, after their first meeting, not mention that she even didn't know the boss' true identity or maybe...
"Ehm, Elena," Atsushi started, but then he was interrupted by Elena.
"Do not talk about the boss right now. Our wedding is in few days and we should focus on it." Elena got closer to Atsushi and when she was going to kiss him, the door opened and four years old Ichirou appeared.
"Erena-san and Sushi-san! Play with me!" Ichirou took both Elena's and Atsushi's hands and he started to pull them towards the door.
Atsushi really dislike that Ichirou was constantly calling him 'Sushi-san' and the worst that Atsushi couldn't learn Ichirou to pronounce his name correctly. Elena seemed to enjoy Atsushi's new nickname.
"Yes, we will play with you Ichirou-kun, right Sushi-san," Elena grinned at Atsushi, who rolled his eyes.
Three of them went out to the near park to play ball. Atsushi wondered where Ichirou had all this energy. It didn't pass even half hour, when Atsushi could already feel how tired he was, unlike Elena who was still running after the ball or rather Ichirou.
Atsushi felt really sad for Ichirou. He would never meet his parents. Ichirou thought at first that Atsushi and Elena were his parents. They had to tell Ichirou the truth that they are not his parents and his real parents went to the better world.
Of course, they didn't mention about how Ichirou's parents died, which would be totally inappropriate to tell to a child something like that, he wouldn't find the truth about his parents anyway. They sure would come up with an excuse of how Ichirou's parents died.
It actually surprised Atsushi that the boss decided not to kill Ichirou. However, when he asked the boss about it, their response was, You may seem me as a heartless person, but I would still not be able to kill a baby. Besides, Ichirou could be useful for the organization.
Atsushi understood by this statement that the boss didn't kill Ichirou, because he was a baby, but because the boss hoped that Ichirou could become a valuable member in the future. Even though, Masato wasn't the best scientist, he still was very clever. Pisco even said that Masato was actually close to ruin the organization. Maybe the boss hoped that Masato's son would be also clever as his father, though in this case the boss had to be very careful for Ichirou not to find the truth about his parents.
"We should go back." Elena looked tired.
"Ehh, but I want to play," Ichirou moaned.
"I'm sorry, but it is getting late," Elena said, but she added, after seeing Ichirou's sad face.
"Don't worry we will play more tomorrow."
"Yay!" Ichirou jumped with joy.
Atsushi sighed. He hoped that they would play something that didn't require all the running, though he knew that his hopes were in vain.
However, he smiled at the thought of Elena being his wife soon. He remembered the moment, when he asked her to marry him. Normally, their families would have to agree on their wedding, but since it wasn't possible, he decided to ask Elena to marry him by himself. It wasn't like he had to ask the boss or Pisco for the permission.
Two weeks ago, Atsushi asked Elena to go out with him to the same park, which they came with Ichirou today. Atsushi planned to ask Elena to marry him for weeks. He wanted it to be perfect and the park full of cherry blossoms trees seemed to be a perfect place to do it.
It was afternoon and sun shined above them. Atsushi chose the full blown cherry blossom tree to propose. He took Elena's hands and he looked straight into her eyes.
"I love you so much and I cannot imagine my life without."
Elena smiled gently at Atsushi, who continued, "Will you marry me?"
Elena's eyes gleamed and she answered still wearing the smile, "Yes, I will."
Atsushi, who felt like the happiest man on the Earth, kissed Elena.
The wedding day of Atsushi and Elena finally came and Elena could feel how happy she was, though she was sad that her parents and her sister cannot be with her to enjoy this day with her.
"It's done," Elena's friend said, after she tied the red sash around Elena's white kimono.
"Thank you and I'm sorry that you cannot come," Elena apologized her friend.
"You're welcome. You really look beautiful and don't apologize. You didn't decide about it"
"I know, but I still think, it is unfair that you cannot come to my wedding," Elena said and then she added, "After all, it will be my best day and I wish you to be there."
However, her friend looked sceptical at her and she expressed her opinion, "It is not important if the wedding is the best day, but if the days after the wedding are. You may feel very happy on your wedding, but this happiness will vanish soon after the problems will appear."
Elena looked sadly at her friend, who said, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't talk about such things on your wedding."
"It's all right. I understand." Elena felt very sorry for her friend and she wished to help them, but unfortunately Elena didn't know how to and also her friend would not agree to help her.
"Don't worry about me. It's your wedding," Elena's friend said noticing her being pensive.
"You know, I am always worrying about my friends, but you are right. It is my wedding and I hope this day and after will be my happiest days."
The wedding was held in the shrine not so far away from the organization's building. It was a small place, but it was enough to fit all guests, since it wasn't so many of them.
As a child, Elena always imagined her family and the groom's family standing in front of each other in a shrine and Elena together with her soon to be husband standing between their families. Unfortunately, it wasn't possible.
There were only around twenty guests, who were consisted of Elena's and Atsushi's scientists colleagues, others organization's members including Pisco, who held Ichirou's hand, so he wouldn't run around the shrine. Others had better things to do and Elena didn't blame them. Besides, it wasn't important how many people were on their wedding, but the fact that Elena and Atsushi finally became wife and man. It was their best day and they knew that it could be only better.
