Thanks again for all the great reviews! I hope this big finale lives up to expectations!
Chapter 40: Savior of Disney
Years from now, when Finn would tell his daughter about the day she was born, he would create some elaborate, yet cheesy, story of waking up in the middle of the night and rushing to take her mother to the hospital and having little baby Ariel Emma Whitman being born three hours later.
He figured that she would be able to handle it when she was older…like maybe twenty. But until then, the real story of her birth was going to stay between him and Amanda.
In reality, he had gotten to hold his precious baby girl for a whopping three seconds before the door to the apartment came off its hinges and someone unseen burst into the living room.
Finn kissed his daughter on the top of her head, wrapped her in a blanket he had found in the living room and handed her to Amanda carefully. The door to the bedroom was still closed and locked but whoever had just burst into the apartment wouldn't keep it that way for long. Finn looked down at Amanda and back at the door. He would have to do the one thing every husband and father says they'll do, but hope they never get the chance to: defend their wife and daughter with their lives.
"Finn," Amanda whispered. He didn't hear her and continued searching for anything he could use as a weapon.
"Finn," she said again, this time a little bit louder. She didn't have a lot of strength left, but she needed to say something to him first, just in case. He still didn't hear her and continued to search.
"Finn!"
Finn turned around and looked at her. "Yeah?"
Amanda waved him over. He didn't feel like he had a choice.
"What is it babe?" He asked her as he kissed her on the forehead.
"If something happens—"
"Don't give me that speech, please," Finn looked down at their daughter, who was squirming around in the blanket, but no crying. She looked up at Finn and smiled. His heart melted.
"But Finn, I need to say something."
"Amanda," Finn moved a few loose hairs behind her ear. "Please don't. You know I love you and our daughter…whatever you decide to name her."
"Finn, it's not that speech."
His face scrunched up in confusion. "Then what did you want to say?"
"I do love you Finn, I do. But if you ever, and I mean ever, leave me for that long again, I will kill you."
Through all her seriousness, Finn dared to laugh. He kissed her on the nose and then quickly on the lips. "I love you too, Mandy. And the death threat is duly noted."
She smiled and his heart melted a second time. "Now go kick some Overtaker butt." He kissed her once more before kissing his daughter's forehead and standing up. He grabbed the lamp off the bedside table, deciding it was the best he could do for now, and made his way over to the door, ready to open it up and wreck some havoc on whomever was inside.
"And Finn?" Amanda called out, just loud enough for him to hear her. He turned around and looked at her, making sure to keep her picture in his memory for a long time. "Make sure she stays dead this time."
He smiles at her. "Now that, I can do."
He opens the door and heads out into the living room. He sees nobody in his immediate periphery and closes the bedroom door. He hears a cabinet open and shut in the kitchen and begins to make his way over there.
He took a deep breath before entering the kitchen and immediately hid the lamp behind his back when he saw Rapunzel and Cinderella standing there, searching for something in the cabinets. Both in nontraditional clothes: shirts, shorts and weapons strapped to their side. Rapunzel, sporting her usual frying pan. Cinderella with a bow and arrow. Who would have thought?
"Uh…hi there…"
Both princesses turned around and smiled upon seeing him. "Finn!" They both exclaimed.
Cinderella walked up to him and gave him a hug, not noticing—or caring about—the blood on his t-shirt. She let go of him and curtsied. "It is a pleasure to see you again, Finn."
"Uh…" He bowed, placing the lamp on the ground next to him. "The pleasure's all mine…Cinderella."
"Finn," Rapunzel nodded, using her unique way of saying hello to him. The two of them had a history. Without her, he would be dead right now.
"Rapunzel," Finn said back.
"Remember when we brought you the potion to save you from Maleficent's curse?" Rapunzel took off her satchel off her shoulder, one that Finn recognized as Flynn's from the movie.
The memory popped back up in Finn's mind. "We fear Maleficent is working with other villains to create a curse to punish you and your friends. That potion will help you defeat her for all eternity."
Finn nodded.
"Good, because we've—and by we, I mean Megara and I—think we have found the potion to destroy her for good."
She found what she was looking for in her satchel and handed it to Finn. It was a dark purple—almost back—liquid in a flask with a cork keeping it from spilling. It glowed faintly in Finn's hand. He could feel its power by just holding it.
"What is it?" He asked the princesses.
"You pour this on a weapon—"
"It works better if it's a sword!" Cinderella interrupted.
"—and it'll kill whomever you strike with it."
Finn eyed it. "What's in it?"
"A lot of stuff you don't care about," Rapunzel spat off. "But it needs one more thing. Something that we think is in here."
"What are you looking for?"
"Walt's pen."
Rapunzel and Cinderella started their search again. Rapunzel continued to talk. "If we can find it and put a drop or two in this, it'll work perfectly. We just haven't been able to find it yet. It's a tad bit chaotic outside."
Finn, who hadn't taken his eyes off the flask yet, finally spoke, almost in a trance. "You won't find it here." He looked up at the princesses. "The pen. It's…it's not here."
"Then where is it?" Cinderella asked, her hands on her hips.
"It's…it's in the bedroom." Finn, with the flask in hand, walked that direction. He opened the door and walked straight into the closet, not looking at Amanda or his daughter. He knew when the princesses had entered the room, for they both began fawning over his newborn daughter.
Finn searched the closet until he found that tiny box that Wayne had shown him all those years ago. He opened it and found the pen sitting there, untouched since that day senior year that Jess had used it to resurrect Mickey.
He picked it up and set the flask on the bed. He uncorked it and placed two drops of ink in it immediately. He corked it quickly and placed the pen back in its original location. He shook it up and handed it back to Cinderella.
"Now what?" He asked them.
"What's that?" Amanda asked.
Finn looked at her for the first time since reentering the bedroom. "A way to kill Maleficent."
They smiled at each other. Rapunzel, who was currently rocking their daughter, spoke up. "Now, we need you to get a sword, so we can use it." She twirled in a circle and smiled down at the baby. "What's her name?"
Amanda and Finn looked at each other in surprise. They hadn't ever discussed names. "Uh…"
"We'll talk about it later," Amanda said quickly. "Finn's got to go save Disney World right now."
"You two have got to get out of here!" Cinderella added. "A baby and her mother have no place here!"
"Traffic's going to be backed up for hours," Finn told her, recalling what he already knew. "We're all stuck."
Cinderella rolled her eyes. "Not when she's got a princess helping her." Finn raised an eyebrow, not getting what she was saying, hoped Cinderella would elaborate—which she did. "I can get a bus to take me anywhere, Finn. It's one of the privileges to being a princess."
"But that doesn't help with the traffic problem."
Rapunzel was now nodding along, seeing the logic in Cinderella's plan that Finn didn't. "That'll work!"
"You can take my girls to a hospital?"
"Of course!" Cinderella exclaimed. "That is okay with you, right?"
"Yes!" Finn said a little bit too loud. "That's more than okay. As long as they're safe."
"Okay!" Cinderella headed for the door. "I'll go get the driver to prepare the car and then I'll come back for them. Rapunzel will have to stay with you, Finn."
Finn sat down on the bed, facing Amanda, as Cinderella left the room. Rapunzel handed Finn his daughter and followed, claiming she would watch the door until Cinderella came back.
Finn couldn't help but smile at his little girl. She was so small and so precious. He couldn't believe that he was a dad now. Amanda leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek.
"She's got your eyes," she whispered. For the first time, Finn really took a look at her and saw his daughter's sparkling green eyes.
"She gets her beauty from you," he whispered back.
"I know you didn't have the time to prepare for this," Amanda began. "But I know you're going to be a great dad. She's very lucky to have you." Amanda choked up a little, wiping away a tear. "I'm very lucky to have you."
Finn looked over at his wife and kissed her on the forehead, then the tip of her nose and then on her lips, that last one lasting longer than the others.
"No, Mandy. I'm the one who's lucky to have both of you." Finn looked down at his daughter. Amanda put her head on his shoulder, also looking at her daughter. "My two beautiful girls."
Rapunzel knocked on the door, signaling that it was time to go. Amanda took their daughter in her arms and kissed Finn one last time. Before she could get away, he wrapped her in a hug from behind, kissing her on the cheek quickly. "I love you," he whispered into her ear.
Before Amanda could say anything, Cinderella whisked her away.
Rapunzel stood in the doorway, frying pan in hand. "Ready to save Disney World, Finn?"
She handed Finn the flask. He took a deep breath, composed himself and nodded. "Let's end this thing."
Willa was having trouble wrapping her mind around the magic wand in her hand, but she figured she could explain it later. Fight now, explain later.
She didn't know any spells. She just kept waving it at certain Overtakers, hoping the wand would do what she wanted.
She flicked it over toward a pirate and watched him disassemble himself. She took a deep breath and surveyed her surroundings: no immediate danger. She sighed, almost defeated by her own exhaustion. The long magic battle with Maleficent combined with getting Philby to safety with Ariel and Eric's help and the new battle raging across Fantasyland now had worn down on her. If she dared to close her eyes for more than a second, she'd be asleep.
But she had to persevere on. Finn was back. All of her friends were safe—as far as she knew. She wasn't going to give up. Not now. Not in the biggest event to ever happen in Disney history.
She took a deep breath, preparing herself for another round of spell-throwing when she saw Finn and Rapunzel running in her direction, dodging people as they went. Rapunzel would occasionally hit an Overtaker with her frying pan, but otherwise, they weren't engaging.
Finn ran straight at her and tackled her in a hug. "I'm so glad you're still doing okay." He held her at arms length. "Couldn't do without my sis, now could I?"
"Wait…you know?"
Finn scoffed. "'Course I do!" He let go of her and smirked. "Now, sis, as the first of many favors to come, I have to ask you to do something crazy. No questions asked."
Willa stared at him, unsure of what to think. "Uh…sure?"
Finn let out a deep sigh of relief. "Whew. Okay good. So I need you to make me a sword. And fast."
"What?"
"I said no questions asked!" Finn complained, rather childish, Willa thought.
"But…but I can't just make a sword!"
"Of course you can! You've got a wand!"
"Yeah…one that I don't know how to use."
Finn rolled his eyes. "You watched Harry Potter."
"So?"
"So…I don't know…do something Harry would do!"
"Harry wouldn't be stuck in this situation right now, Finn. Harry and Disney have nothing in common!"
"They both have magic!"
Willa rolled her eyes. "You're useless. They're two different types." She stopped herself before she got too deep into her Harry Potter/Disney rant. "I can't just make a sword, Finn. Not now! Not in the middle of the chaotic battle that is—" Willa motioned to the area around them "—going on all around us as we speak!"
Finn stepped forward and put his hands on her shoulders. "I know you can do it, Willa. Just concentrate."
"Why do you need a sword? You had one earlier!"
"It's not the sword that I need, Willa."
"What does that even mean?"
"Willa," his grip on her shoulders got tighter. "I need you to concentrate right now."
Willa searched his eyes for answers, but found none. "Why do you need me to make you one?"
"Because it'll be made by magic."
"And it'll increase the likelihood that this potion will work!" Rapunzel said from behind Finn. She held up a flask with a dark purple liquid in it. Willa eyed the flask, then Rapunzel, letting her gaze linger on Finn. She sighed a defeat and gripped her wand.
"How do I do this?"
Finn smiled at her, happy he had won her over, and looked at Rapunzel for answers.
"You have to close your eyes and concentrate," Rapunzel instructed her. Willa closed her eyes and gripped the wand so tight her knuckles were starting to turn white, but she didn't dare relinquish any of her grip. Finn let go of her shoulders, probably getting out of the way in case anything went wrong.
"Now imagine a perfect sword," Rapunzel said quietly. Willa focused on her words, picturing Excalibur. She knew it was the best sword: magical, powerful, fit for a king—Finn was close enough to being a Disney king.
"Now trace the outline of it with your wand, keeping your eyes closed," Rapunzel instructed. Willa did just that, slowly so that she didn't make any mistakes. Once she was finished, Rapunzel continued. "Now flick your wand once and hold out your free hand."
Willa flicked the wand and her left hand suddenly felt a lot heavier. She opened her eyes and saw Excalibur gleaming in her hand.
"Oh…my…gosh!" She turned to Finn. "I just created a sword with magic!" She did a little quick 'happy dance,' as Charlene called it. "This is so cool!"
"Thanks sis," Finn said with a smile. "Now if you don't mind, I'd like to destroy Maleficent with it."
"Oh, right," Willa handed the sword to him. Rapunzel uncorked the flask and handed it to Finn. Finn took his time, slowly pouring the liquid over every inch of the sword, even the handle. Once it was all gone, the sword slowly absorbed the liquid, causing the sword to glow.
"Whoa," Willa said in awe.
"Finn, now would be a great time to use it." Rapunzel said, her eyes looking up above them. Willa followed the princess' line of sight and saw Maleficent in dragon from standing not far from them, destroying the Snow White Mine Train roller coaster.
Finn lowered the sword and Willa gave him a tight hug.
"I'm glad to have you as a brother," Willa whispered into his ear. "Even if we just found out about it."
"Same here."
Willa leaned back just far enough so that she could see his face. He was a good eight inches taller than her—so much different from when they were kids and the same height. "How's Amanda and the baby?"
Finn smiled. "She's good. Cinderella's getting her to a hospital."
"Is it a boy or a girl?"
Finn's smile grew wider. "It's a girl."
Willa hugged him again. "Oh, that's just perfect, Finn."
And they stayed like that for a minute. Brother and sister hugging, for what might be the last time, as far as they knew.
"Get everybody out of here and to safety. I'll meet you at the hospital, okay?" Finn whispered to her.
"No, Finn, we're staying to help you."
Finn let go of her and looked over at Maleficent briefly before looking back at his twin sister. "No, Willa. This fight's all mine."
Willa glares at him. "Last time you did that in Disneyland you were dead for a few minutes."
Finn smirked. "I'm not going to die this time. Don't you trust me?"
Willa scoffed and rolled her eyes. "You better come back alive. I think we're all going to kill you if you don't."
Finn smirked, leaning forward and kissing his sister on the cheek. "See you at the hospital, sis."
Willa smiled. "Good luck, bro."
Finn took off toward Maleficent, glowing sword in hand. Willa watched him go for a few moments before searching for her friends. She knew getting them all out of here alive was going to be difficult, but she was up for the challenge.
Finn hurried up to Maleficent and stopped about ten feet away.
"HEY!" He called out to her. "Hey ugly!" He smirked, knowing this would get her attention—or should he say, it.
She turned to face him and opened her mouth, but not to speak. Why would she talk when she could just kill him now and end their lifelong feud? He knew that much to be true. He was willing to end this as fast as she was. Both ready to end the lifelong feud so eagerly they would resort to their first and only defense. Neither had patience for talking, taunting and anything that would normally happen when the two met. Today was all about ending the feud. Either Maleficent survives and so does evil or Finn, the Savior of Disney, survives and good continues to reign.
Before she could spit fire at him, he reared back his right arm and threw the sword at her heart with as much force as he could. All the anger, all the frustration, all the hate and pain that she had caused him throughout his lifetime went into that throw. She had ruined his high school years, but it was because of her that he met his six best friends. She had taken his mother away from him for two weeks, but because of that, the two had a much closer relationship. She had ripped him out of the real world and into her cursed world for almost two years, but because of that he considered himself stronger, more courageous, and a rebel. Not the bad kind of rebel, the kind of rebel that stood up for truth, the innocent, and the good. The kind of rebel that wasn't going to let any kind of evil corrupt the happiest place on earth. Finn was going to rebel against her one last time. He was determined to make sure he, or any one else, never saw Maleficent again. She was finished. Death by rebel.
Or as he would later be known: Death by Savior of Disney.
The world around Finn started to move in slow motion. The fire was slowly coming at him at the same speed that the sword was flying through the air at her.
He flopped down on his back, trying to get out of the way. He rolled on the concrete, trying to stop anything from burning, but he knew he was too late. He heard the cries of Maleficent as the sword plunged through her heart and she collapsed on top of Eric's castle.
His whole body was in pain. He couldn't feel anything. He thought he had stopped rolling, but his vision was still turning, causing him to feel nauseated and dizzy.
Later, when he would recount this story to Amanda, he would tell her that he thought of her in what he thought were to be his last moments. He hoped she would be happy. That their daughter would grow up and become a young lady who he was proud of. He hoped that they would both be happy.
His last conscious thought before blacking out was of the first time he ever saw Amanda. He was twelve. In seventh grade. He had just had his first crossing over experience and he had been telling Dillard all about it in gym class while doing sit-ups. He was taking a break, lying with his back on the hot cement when he noticed her out of the corner of his eye. She was stretching with some of the other girls across the way. She looked up at him and their eyes connected for a brief moment. He knew, in that very moment, that he had to talk to her, that they had some sort of special connection.
It was that moment that had changed his life for the good. Without her, he would be nothing. She was his everything.
He wasn't lying to his wife when he told her that she was on his mind when he blacked out from the pain on the ground in Fantasyland.
And he wouldn't be lying when he told her that she was on his mind when he woke up in the hospital thirteen hours later.
"Where's Amanda?" was the first thing he asked the nurse when she came in.
"Is that your wife?" She asked him politely. She wasn't looking at him. She was looking at a chart that had been sitting on his bedside table. She was looking at all the machines he was hooked up to. She glanced up at him for a brief second, waiting for his answer.
Finn nodded. "Where is she?"
"She's in a room across the hall with your daughter, Mr. Whitman. Would you like me to let her know you're awake?"
Finn nodded again. The nurse scribbled something on the chart and left the room, presumably to find Amanda.
Finn took a deep breath and took in his injuries. He had, what looked like, third-degree burns on his chest and shoulders. No wonder he blacked out from the pain earlier. He had cooling patches on some of the lesser-degree burns on his wrists and legs. Moving was going to be hard for a while.
It was about half an hour before Amanda came in, their little daughter in her arms. She shed a few tears of joy seeing that he was awake and doing just fine. Despite her hesitation, he got to hold his daughter, cradling her in his arms gently. She was asleep now. She looked so peaceful when she slept.
"I had to decide on a name when I brought her here to the hospital," Amanda said, breaking the silence.
Finn looked up at her and smiled. "What did you decide?"
Amanda sat down on the bed, sitting as close to him as possible, but careful not to touch any of his burns. "Ariel."
Finn kissed her on the cheek. "That's beautiful. Why Ariel?"
Amanda laughed. "Honestly? Lizzie had mentioned it right when I found out I was pregnant, back in that other world. She said that you had told her that our child was going to be her best friend and that if it was a girl, she would want her to be named Ariel, after her and Willa's favorite princess."
Finn joined in on the laughter. "It's perfect." Amanda kissed him on the cheek.
"I thought you'd say that."
"What's her middle name?"
"I didn't give them one. I figured you would want to pick that one out."
A memory tugged at him.
"You've got a twin sister, Finn, and her name…" Maleficent let out a quick laugh. "I take that back. Both of your names would be surprising."
She disappeared into thin air and Finn's gaze lowered to the piece of paper. On the piece of paper was a print out of birth records from the hospital in which he was born. He scanned the list of names until he found his:
Lawrence Finnegan…Alcott?
Directly below it was another name: Emma Isabel Alcott.
"Emma," Finn whispered. "Her middle name is Emma."
"Why Emma?"
"Because that's my twin sister's real first name." Amanda gave him a strange look. Finn shrugged. "It's a long story."
Three days later, Finn finally got to return to his house. He reunited with his adopted mother, father and sister in an emotional reunion that would be anyone to tears. Mrs. Whitman rejoiced at the sight of her first grandchild, treating Ariel like the princess that she was—doing no less than Finn had been doing so far.
His actual, biological mother came by later with Wayne, giving another emotional reunion. Willa, Philby and Lizzie came by too, creating one giant family reunion for the books. Lizzie's face upon seeing her new friend Ariel was priceless. Amanda was glad she got a picture of it and immediately hung it up in a frame the next day. It stayed nailed to the wall in the hallway 'til the day they moved out. Even then, it was still one of Amanda's favorite pictures of the girls.
Finn got to talk to Philby for the first time in over a year and boy did he miss that. Philby had gotten stabbed and had lost a lot of blood during the fight, but he was doing okay that day. He talked on and on about how he had started going back to school for a masters degree in forensic psychology. He had gotten interested in the field way back when Greg Luowski had gotten murdered and all seven of the keepers had become suspects. Finn had never seen Philby so happy when he told him all about their second child on the way. He kept talking about how great it would be for their daughters to have play dates and how they were going to be best friends for life.
Willa, on the other hand, was just happy to see Philby being his normal self. Apparently, he had given her quite the scare at the hospital. Had it not been for their generous amount of B- blood on reserve, Philby might not be alive today. She was definitely still exhausted from the fight three days ago, given that she had to take care of their two-year old daughter and her recovering husband. But today, she was nothing but smiles. Finn was glad to see his twin sister happy, as she was glad to see the same thing in him.
They had decided to figure out the whole magic ordeal later, after all the excitement died down.
Later that evening, the rest of the Kingdom Keepers showed up. Causing Finn to have to order in six pizzas, instead of the planned three. He hadn't seen any of them in three days, so reuniting with each one was special to him.
Jess, the first to show up, was still picking up the pieces of her broken heart over Hans/Patrick, but she was doing better. She actually hugged Finn and rejoiced at the sight of her niece.
Maybeck and Charlene showed up together. Apparently Maybeck had gotten a bad concussion during the fight, but Finn wouldn't have guessed that off of his behavior upon entering the Whitman residence. He hugged everybody and played with Lizzie and Ariel for a solid hour before joining any of the adults in conversation.
Charlene watched him in adoration, fixing the sling holding her broken arm in place every once in a while. Finn had pulled her aside and explained how he planned on getting her brother, Thomas, free of "green-eyed syndrome." They decided on heading that way the next morning, after the reunion excitement had died down. She even cried and gave Finn the tightest hug he had ever received in his life, thanking him constantly. She then went back into the living room, where she sat with Maybeck on the couch for the rest of the evening. When neither was engaged in conversation, they were in their own little world. Amanda told Finn about their wedding in two months and everything made sense. In his opinion, it had taken them way to long to tie the knot, but in their defense, they had said the same for Finn and Amanda.
Somewhere around one in the morning, everybody had left. After a lot of hugs and promises to hang out soon and everything else that went along with reunions, Finn collapsed into his recliner, exhausted. Today had just been plain exhausting, explaining the story of the past two years to every one…more than once.
But he loved them all to death and was so lucky to have them in his life, so he didn't mind it.
He didn't realize Amanda was still awake until she sat on his lap a few minutes later.
"The baby's asleep," she whispered into his ear before she kissed his cheek. "Wanna go to bed? It's almost two in the morning."
Finn gazed into her eyes and smiled, happy to know that she was back in his arms again. "I missed you so much, Mandy, during that year I was gone."
"I did too."
"I'm never leaving you again," he promised.
She smiled, running her hand through his hair. "I'm not letting you get out of my sight ever again."
Both Finn and Amanda kept her word 'til the day that they died. It would be something that their five kids would admire throughout the years. The only time Finn or Amanda would be separated was at work, but even then they would be in constant communication, checking in on one another every hour or so. None of the five kids would ever find out all of their parent's history together, but they would learn bits and pieces throughout the years. One thing was clear to all of them at the end of the first story: their parents were soul mates. Met in middle school, fell in love in high school, dated in college, married and lived happily ever after. They would become role models for all of their kids to look up to.
When their youngest, Storey—after the girl who had been victimized by Ursula all those years ago but had eventually become a good friend of the group—turned fifteen, Finn had decided to tell them a story. A story so great they didn't believe he could make something like that up, despite being an Imagineer for a living. He told them the story of a little twelve-year old boy who joined together with six friends and saved Disney from the evil Maleficent, not once, but twice. He recounted daring adventures, good-looking knights in shining armor, beautiful romances, all the inside jokes, and all the fun. He didn't use their real names, but based off personalities, the Whitman kids figured out who was who. They weren't stupid, after all.
Well guys...that was the end! The next chapter will be an epilogue (10 years after the end of REBEL), so that'll be up soon! I hope you guys enjoyed this story as much as me! Please review! I love reading them! It'd be awesome to get to 190...or, dare I say, 200...just saying. Have a great Easter and weekend! :)
