"So, do you believe me when I say that you are the woman of my dreams?"
"Ha ha nice one, Mr. Beckett. You must've say that to all the women out there."
Yancy was watching Elsa working in her office. It was late, and she was still working, and she looked absolutely gorgeous.
It was the third week he was in Panama, and he knew he needs to have this girl before he goes back.
"No, really. You should ask Raleigh about my dream woman, and he would describe you."
Yancy peeked from behind the computer and Elsa was looking at him with a disgusted look. He grinned.
"Please, Yancy, one more of those hideous phrases and you're out of here.", warned Elsa. "
And you're coming with me."
Yancy is now sitting outside the research room door, waiting for the girl of his dreams to come out. The door was locked.
Suddenly, the click sound of the door was heard.
"Don't. Don't open it."
A voice was heard from inside. It was Elsa.
"Something wrong?"
"Why do you keep bothering me?",asked Elsa.
"Because I want you."
"Want is not a good word for me."
"Elisabeth Trancy, you are the woman of my dreams and I can't see you slipping away from my grasp when you're real, when you're standing in front of me."
The door opened and Elsa stood in amazement of the man in front of her. She felt weird, in a good way. Something felt odd inside her. She would be angry, she would resist, but that time she wasn't, as Yancy leaned to her and brushed his lips against her.
Everything felt heavy, her eyes, her body and everything hurts too. This is reality, for Elsa.
"Oh, you're awake. Finally. Well, people has been looking for you, the research team mostly. They need your ideas as soon as possible."
Elsa lifted her arms, the left one was filled with debris wounds and the right one has a big bruise mark.
"So I'm all red in the left and all black and blue in the right?",asked Elsa slowly.
The staff nodded as an answer.
"I need to check the research room."
Hermann and Newt stood dumbfounded in front of Elsa's vault, a heavy, steel and iron box where she keeps her important document. It was small, but quite heavy, but the explosion seemed to have damaged it's security system. Because it was open, without Elsa.
"This is unbelievable."
"I tried closing it and it still detects me as Elsa."
"The lock is Elsa's retinal scan, right?"
"Yeah, this vault has gone mad."
Inside the vault was mostly blueprints, designs and most of them are backed up online. But the machinery and equipment are all toasted.
"Are you sure inside are all papers?", asked Newt.
"Seems like it. Should we check?" "
Should we?"
The two men looked at each other.
"Well, this is an important documents vault, right? Not a private documents vault.", said Newt.
Hermann looked at his colleague with surprise.
"You'll be taking responsibility."
The vault was emptied. All of them are important documents on scientific stuffs, Jaeger and Kaiju related. Drawings and writings fill the pages.
There was one small fabric bag among the papers. Newt found it.
"What's this?"
The curious Hermann looked over as Newt checks the inside. A small folded paper went out. He opens it.
"What is it?", asked Hermann.
Newt abruptly folded it back.
"What?!", asked Hermann.
"We shouldn't read this."
"What?"
"It's from Yancy."
After a moment of silence, Newt slips the folded paper slowly to Hermann's hand. Inside it was a man's handwriting.
'You said 3 wishes. For me just grant this one little wish. Let me forever be with you.'
Yancy's big arms held Elsa's body tightly. His warmth covers her. She turns to face him.
"Did you tell Raleigh about us?"
Yancy, with his eyes still closed, shooked his head.
"I want to bring you to him in flesh. He used to think there is no such thing as my dream woman. Wait till he sees you."
Elsa snuggles closer to Yancy's chest. His hand went tighter as a response.
"Will you come with me?", asked Yancy.
"And leave Panama?"
"For me?"
""I guess I can ask for a transfer, but….."
Elsa discontinued her sentence in purpose. Yancy pinched her nose.
"Come on. Grant this poor man in love a wish.", Yancy begged playfully. "
This poor man in love can only ask his dream woman 3 wishes. Think carefully."
"A challenge, huh? Just you wait."
"Write it down so I won't forget."
Elsa stood up slowly, the bruises and cuts started to take its toll. Her whole body felt beaten up, well she was beaten up.
"Do you want a wheelchair or something?"
A medical staff looked at Elsa with concern.
"Thanks but no. I prefer walking on my own." "Well, but take care of yourself. You're new but I've seen you here more times than the residents here."
Elsa laughed at the medical staff's remark.
"I will."
As Elsa exits the Medical Bay, Raleigh was seen approaching.
"Raleigh."
"Elsa! Geez, the color got worse."
"I know, the pain got worse too."
Raleigh grinds his teeth looking at Elsa as she walks slowly. She was never a slow walker before, she always walks fast as if she's in a hurry.
"Does Grandma Elsa need a wheelchair?", jokes Raleigh.
"Shut up."
Raleigh laughed and it was good, for Elsa. To hear that sincere laugh.
"So how was things while I'm out?"
"All the other place was fine, only the research room suffers the casualty. Newt and Hermann was devastated. They said with your instrument in shambles, this may slow the whole progress down."
"Thank you Buena Kai for blasting my all of my equipment."
"Okay honorable pilots, this is our final standardizing test and you can go home."
"Thank God.", jokes Yancy from his communicator.
Elsa was standing inside the observation room for the last virtual reality test. The cameras on each pod of pilots was shown on the screen. Today was different, the test was done simultaneously for all pilots.
As for Yancy and Elsa, they had kept it private, the way Elsa wanted it to be and Yancy happily obliges.
The head of the operation opens up Yancy's private communication channel.
"Mr Beckett, not doubting your piloting abilities but please refrain from doing the terrible and stupid thing you did on the last test.", said the head.
Elsa giggled.
"If it was done in reality, it would cause grave casualty. Sorry to say but we, the good citizens and non-combatants still want to live."
Yancy's laugh was head on the comm-line, that sincere laugh.
"Okay I won't.", Yancy answered softly.
"Okay I won't? I was expecting you to say something, from the bottom of my heart."
"Well, Mr. James, someone is waiting for me. So no, I won't do something stupid anymore."
The whole crowd in the observation room was a bit taken aback.
"You mean your brother?"
"No, not Raleigh, he can take care of himself. There was someone. I know she can protect herself, she's amazing but I want to be with her. She makes me rethink my future."
Elsa gasped. Yancy might not disclose the identity of the someone, but he was undoubtedly talking about her.
"Well, Romeo in love, let's see your resolve."
Elsa's blood ran cold.
"Hey, can you cover for me. I need to go back for something.", said Elsa to a colleague.
"Oh sure sure."
Elsa handed her the files on Elsa's hand and with hastened steps, left the observation room.
She is officially Yancy's deadweight.
The research room was clean by the time Elsa was up. The debris was gone, it was almost like before, but emptier. Much emptier.
"Elsa!"
Newt and Hermann greeted her excitedly. Raleigh quickly moves in between them.
"Watch it, gentlemen. She is still recovering."
"Don't worry Raleigh. Okay, shoot me the situations."
Newt quickly guides Elsa to the middle of the room.
"This was your memory equipment thingy right? It got blasted, but from the looks of it, I think it survives."
Elsa examined the machine in front of her. Some part was burnt and it was dusty.
"Hmmm, I guess we can clean this up and change the outer part. The insides look pretty intact."
"Yes!", Newt shouted happily.
Raleigh looked a little bit lost.
"So what does this thing do?", asked Raleigh.
"It's like a mini-superior mind. I programmed it especially to go inside a person's mind and like wreak havoc inside."
"That sounds pretty brutal." "
No, I can do that. But that's not it. I can use this machine to tap into someone's mind and control that someone's mind."
Raleigh nodded in response. Elsa put her hands on her waist and looks at Raleigh annoyed.
"You know about this, you tapped into my mind!"
"I understand better if explained."
Newt and Hermann joined the conversation.
"This machine was made for human minds, not Kaiju's mind. We were currently tweaking it to accommodate a Kaiju's mind."
"And it got blasted."
"Okay I'll leave you three on your duties then.", Raleigh said as he left.
Yancy went inside Elsa's working room. As usual, she never stops working. Yancy knew Elsa knew his presence.
"Hiya, lovely."
He approached her and kissed her cheek. But she didn't respond.
"What's wrong?"
Elsa spun her stool to face Yancy.
"Do you love me?"
"Huh, what's wrong with you? Of course I do." "
If I told you not to fight Kaijus anymore and live on the countryside?"
Yancy walked a bit and looked like he was thinking.
"Well, I don't think I can. Humanity needs me to protect them, and Raleigh too."
Elsa looked disappointed at the answer. Yancy quickly lowers himself and grabs Elsa's hand.
"Hey, but I will always come back home. I will always come back to see you."
Elsa puts up her best smile.
"Okay then."
Yancy flicked her forehead.
"What's wrong with the nerd today?"
"I'm not thinking straight."
"Hoo, I'm making the genius nerd not thinking straight. Cool."
Yancy sat across Elsa on her working table.
"Packed your bags yet?", asked Yancy.
"What?"
"Don't you want to come back with me? I'm leaving soon."
Elsa only replied with a small laugh. The question remain unanswered.
Then, she opens one of her drawers and took out 2 Rubik cubes.
"Write your name on it.", said Elsa as she handed Yancy one.
"For what exactly?", asks Yancy as he wrote his name on the colored layer.
"This is my kind of time capsule."
"The nerd kind of time capsule."
Elsa wrote her name on the other cube. She then handed hers over and took Yancy's.
"Now?" "Now mess it up."
Yancy obediently turns the cube round and round, changing the same colored tiles into messy mixed one.
"Okay, I think it's enough.", said Yancy.
"Give it back."
"Hey ! I thought I can keep one."
"Not now."
"Not now?"
"I'll give you after you help me."
"Help you with?"
"An experiment."
Raleigh walks back to his room. He drops himself in his bed. The rubik cube was on top of the table.
What it Yancy decided to throw away the cube? Raleigh wouldn't be able to find Elsa, let alone know about her existence.
The cube that started everything.
Raleigh stood up and took the cube. Long he stares at the black marker writing. Elsa Trancy. Raleigh never twisted or turned the cube again.
He closes his eyes, trying to reach a distant memory. A memory not his.
"So what's this experiment about?"
"Just sit down and be a good subject."
Elsa put a headpiece on Yancy's head. The headpiece was attached to a machine.
"Close your eyes. Relax, take a deep breath.", instructed Elsa.
Yancy closes his eyes. After taking a few breaths, he opens his eyes. Surprised to find Elsa crying.
"Why are you crying? Hey what's wrong!"
Yancy wanted to grab Elsa's hand but he was too late. Elsa had pushed the button and Yancy was unconscious immediately.
A few days later, a meeting was held between the Shatterdomes. Many different faces on the screen on which Herc, Tendo, Elsa, Newt and Hermann was standing facing it. It was a simple meeting, about a simple request.
"Please repeat so I can clarify my hearing." "We need you, or anyone, anywhere, to catch a live Kaiju and bring it here." "Come again." "We need you to catch a live Kaiju and bring it to us. Or we can come to you, we are flexible."
The whole conference went silent, no questions, nothing.
Suddenly.
"The hell is wrong with you!"
The 5 was shocked with the sudden reply.
"Has the multiple breach driven you mad?!" "Do you think capturing a Kaiju alive is easy?" "Killing it is hard, capturing it alive is harder!" "Do you think we are trapping a puppy!"
The whole conference was shouting at the 3 scientist.
