Hey guys, I know it's been a while, but I've been really busy. I started putting this on Wattpad! Look for me! I'm slowing catching up to where it is here. Thanks so much y'all! Love you!
Chapter 11
"Ah, I see you got my message from Professor Snape," Dumbledore says and gestures Leo and Calypso to sit down. Snape had come to them at dinner, and in a not-so-kind way told them Dumbledore needed to see them.
"Yeah, we got it alright," Leo grumbled. Calypso elbowed him in the ribs, but Dumbledore only smiled.
"Yes, Professor Snape is a bright, happy man, isn't he?" He chuckled. "He may seem grumpy, but I assure you, he has his moments." Leo snorted, but didn't say anything. "Now then!" Dumbledore clapped his hands together. "You both were just so helpful during the first task, I wonder if you might help an old man out again?"
"Of course, Professor!" Calypso said sweetly. "Anything you need!" She mashed Leo in the foot just in case, where Dumbledore wouldn't see. Leo stifled a wince, and Dumbledore chuckled, obviously noticing.
"Again, I must ask that you don't mention it to anyone. Although I'm sure Mr. Potter would love your help, I'm sure he can handle himself, am I right?" He chuckled as Calypso and Leo blushed. He knew they had helped Harry figure out the dragon. "But," he added, "of course, you would never dream of doing such a thing . . ." The two smiled.
"Of course, Professor," Leo said with mock seriousness. Dumbledore beamed.
"I'm glad. Now, the next task is in the lake. The champions must go through it, get to the bottom, and rescue one person set for them." Calypso's mouth dropped open.
"But, Professor, isn't that even more dangerous? I mean the lake is really deep!" Dumbledore held up a hand.
"There will be, again, more safety measures." He smiled. "There is no need to worry, Ms. Calypso. If the champions feel they are in too much danger to continue, such as suffocating or being attacked beyond what they can handle, they need only shoot up red sparks.
"Now, I will need you to do two things. It is of most importance that you build an underwater camera. It doesn't matter what it looks like, as we will enchant it to blend in with its surroundings. That is the more important thing, but we also need an inside look at the champion's lives. The person that they need to rescue should be who they care about most." He paused looking at Calypso. "I think you would be best at this. Look around and find who the champions spend the most time with." Calypso nodded and smiled.
"I can do that." Leo rolled his eyes.
"I'll do more productive things, like building a much needed camera," he said. Dumbledore smiled.
"Leo, since when have you ever been productive?!" Dumbledore chuckled.
"Yes, I believe it would be a good idea for Leo to work on the camera while you look into the champion's lives." He paused. "I hope you don't mind me asking, but do you know if—well—are Mr. Potter and Ms. Granger—are they . . ."
Calypso laughed. "No, sir, they're just friends." Dumbledore smiled.
"Sorry, I know it's not my place—just curious."
The next day, Leo went out to work on Festus, while Calypso followed Hermione around.
"Shouldn't you go help Leo?" Hermione asked on their way to Ancient Runes.
"Well, I was useful in taking him apart, but I have absolutely no idea how to put him back together. I didn't want to get in his way." Hermione nodded, and Calypso silently sighed in relief.
At lunch, Leo came in. "So," he said sarcastically, "how's the love whisperer job going?"
"It's going fine, thank you very much? How's the camera?" she added with a whisper.
"I haven't started it. Dumbledore still has to get me the parts. They'll be here tomorrow."
After lunch, Leo headed back the forest and Calypso went to study hall with Hermione. After about 30 minutes, Viktor Krum walks by, and Calypso looks up. She pretends to be looking across the courtyard at something, and watches as Krum looks over at Hermione. Calypso glances at her, and sees Hermione smile, blushing. Krum winks, and keeps walking. Hermione's cheeks get even redder. Calypso raised an eyebrow.
"Got a crush?" she smirked. Hermione suddenly snapped back to her senses.
"W—what? Oh," she said, the red in her cheeks growing again, a goofy grin on her face. She quickly turned back to her book, and attempted to wipe the grin from her face. "N—no." Calypso raised an eyebrow again. Hermione sighed. "He comes to the library a lot." She smiled. "I catch him staring sometimes." Calypso smiled to herself, knowing she had someone for Krum to rescue.
Within the next few days, Leo had finished the camera Dumbledore needed, and Calypso had found someone for each champion to rescue, except for Fleur Delacour. So many people followed her around, it was hard to tell which of them she was actually close to. Leo and Calypso contacted Dumbledore and met with him after dinner.
"My goodness, Leo, you work fast!" Dumbledore said as he examined the camera.
"Thanks, professor," Leo said. He stood and walked over to the professor. He began to explain the different features it had, Dumbledore nodding and smiling the whole time. Calypso cleared her throat.
"As interesting as this is, I have some important things to share as well." Dumbledore looked up.
"Oh, yes! Have you come up with good matches for our champions?" Dumbledore suddenly perked up. Leo stifled a laugh. Dumbledore looked confused, then clarity passed into his eyes. He chuckled. "I mean people for the champions to rescue!"
Calypso laughed. "Yes, sir. After the first day of looking I found someone for Viktor Krum." She paused. "I think Hermione Granger is the perfect fit." Leo looked at her like her nose was suddenly missing.
"Since when have Krum and Hermione ever spoken a word to each other?" he asked.
"Well . . . they haven't." She pursed her lips. She hadn't realized how weird it sounded. "Apparently Krum goes to the library all the time and watches Hermione. He likes her. A lot." Leo rolled his eyes, but Dumbledore beamed.
"Excellent!" he exclaimed. "Have you found any more?"
Calypso nodded. "It was difficult for Harry because I couldn't decide between . . . uh," she paused, looking at Dumbledore nervously. Dumbledore frowned.
"It's quite all right, Ms. Calypso." He chuckled, catching on. "I understand. Have you found someone for Mr. Potter?"
Calypso nodded. "Ron is his best friend. He would do anything for him. Being in an argument with him nearly killed him." Dumbledore beamed once again. Calypso continued, "Cho Chang is best for Cedric Diggory. They've been around each other a lot lately." Leo once again rolled his eyes, but didn't say anything.
"Do you have someone for Ms. Delacour?"
Calypso shook her head. "There's always a crowd around her. I can't tell who she's close to and who's following her."
Leo cleared his throat. "I believe I can be of assistance." He smirked. "Her sister. She means the world to her." Calypso raised an eyebrow, and Leo blushed. "You know, just guessing?"
Dumbledore smiled kindly. "I think that's perfect." Calypso rolled her eyes, but agreed.
The next task was approaching quickly, and Harry was doing absolutely nothing. He had opened his egg a couple times since the night after the first task, but had always gotten the same result: shrieking. Hermione was starting to get really annoyed with him.
"Harry, the task is only two weeks away, and you're no closer to figuring the egg out than you were a few weeks ago," Hermione complained one afternoon.
Ron groaned. "Hermione, lay off for once! He's still got a few weeks!" He gestured toward Harry. "And besides, can't you see Harry's exhausted?" He was right. Harry had bags under his eyes, and was yawning non-stop.
Calypso frowned. "Yeah, Harry. Are you feeling alright?" Harry shook his head.
"I just haven't been getting a lot of sleep lately," he replied. Hermione frowned and raised an eyebrow. She looked around to see if anyone was listening in.
"Harry . . . is your scar burning?" He looked around as well. He motioned for the group to follow him into an empty classroom.
"Okay, look. I told Sirius about this, but I haven't really mentioned it to anyone else."
"Who's Sirius?" Leo piped up.
"Um . . . long story. He's my godfather. Anyway, I had this dream at the beginning of the year. It was really vivid." He paused and closed his eyes. "And Voldemort was in it." Hermione slapped her hand across her mouth, eyes wide.
"Harry, you have to tell Dumbledore!"
He frowned. "No, Dumbledore has enough on his mind at the moment." Hermione huffed, but didn't say anything, knowing she couldn't change Harry's mind.
Soon, it was the day before the second task, and Harry still didn't know the secret of the egg. Leo, Calypso, Hermione, and Ron were in the forest, working on Festus. Harry was in the library, or so they thought.
"Guys, guys, guys!" The four looked up to see Harry sprinting toward them. "I just took a bath in the prefect's bathroom!"
Leo and Ron burst out laughing. "That's great, dude," Leo snorted.
"Brilliant, mate, but why are you telling us this?" Ron agreed.
"Because I took the egg with me!" Harry smirked. Hermione's eyes widened.
"Did you figure it out?!" Harry grinned goofily. "Oh, Harry, that's wonderful! You had me so worried! So, what's the task?"
"Uh—well—it's mermaids and in the lake . . . I think," he said, nervously. Hermione sighed.
"Well, come on. Let's go to the library." Harry, Ron, Calypso, and Leo groaned. Hermione just rolled her eyes. "I'm pretty sure you don't want to die tomorrow, Harry." He shrugged, and they headed back up to the castle.
"Now what did it say, again?" After a few hours, they still had no idea how to get through the task. Hermione was scrounging around for anything she could find.
Harry groaned, and laid his head on the desk. Ron snored next to him. "Come seek us where our voices sound, we cannot speak above the ground, and while you're searching ponder this, we've taken what you'll sorely miss, an hour long you'll have to look, to recover what we took, but past an hour, the prospect's black, too late, it's gone, it won't come back."
"Okay, so obviously it's in the lake, with the mermaids. You have to rescue something that's dear to you, and you only have an hour to look for it."
"Yes, Hermione, we've been over this. You've said that at least a hundred times," Harry complained. Leo laughed.
"Maybe you just need some rest," Calypso said. "How about Leo and I keep looking for something that will let you breathe underwater."
"Not so fast," a deep, scratchy voice said behind them. "Weasley, Granger, come with me," Moody said.
"But Harry needs—"
"I'm sure Mr. Potter has figured his egg out by now." He paused, glancing at Leo and Calypso. "You two as well. Dumbledore needs your help getting set for tomorrow." He glanced over, then, at Neville Longbottom who was walking by with his beloved herbology book. "Longbottom!" Neville jumped.
"Y—yes, sir?" he replied.
"Help Mr. Potter put his books away. He needs to rest for tomorrow," he added, pointedly staring Harry down. Neville hurriedly started helping Harry put away the mound of textbooks on his desk. Moody gestured for Hermione, Ron, Leo, and Calypso to follow him. They waved goodbye to Harry and Neville, and reluctantly followed Moody to Dumbledore's office.
