A Mother's Instinct

Chapter 5

I am always surprised by her collection of dolls. No, not kidding, this bitch has a HUGE obsession! She named every one of them. For example: there is a doll that stands on top her desk right as you enter her room. It's a man with a mole on his chin, his hair is a chocolate brown color, and his name is Austria. (Miss Elizabeth has a thing for naming the dolls countries...)

Lithuania is a doll that sits next to her books, high up where no one but herself can reach. She has cropped blonde locks of hair, with a blue ribbon around her head. She wears a pink dress and to be frank with you, she looks lonely.

The worst out of all her "children" (no joke, they are her babies) is THE ONE. The one is named Romano. Supposedly that is the south side of Italy that no one really pays attention to. What creeps me out about him is that he looks exactly like me. The only difference is that he is wearing a dress, and is smiling. Years of constantly being in the shadows, dust, and constant dropping has caused his mouth and eyes to crack a little. This, in turn, gives the doll a look as if he has been crying, pointing at the bed where Miss Elizabeth sleeps.

Miss Elizabeth sighs which causes me to flinch in response. She closes the door behind her and motions toward her desk. I slowly make my way over to the desk, already knowing my punishment.

"You must write… You write…"

I look over my shoulder to see her staring at the doll, Romano, tears in her eyes. She gives out a wail before she collapses to the ground. Not knowing what to do I turn around in my seat just staring at her shuddering body. Through her wails she manages:

"Why? Why?"

"Miss Elizabeth?"

She looks up at me her eyes completely emotionless. Within a second she has her hands around my throat, shaking me ferociously.

"Why can't you be grateful for what I've given you! I gave you love! I talk to you! I have NEVER hated you!"

I have to escape! Now that I think about it, whenever Gilbert got in trouble he'd hide his neck from us leaving her room. What did he even do?

Gilbert is often compared to a bird. He doesn't know when to stop talking, especially about how great he is. In front of Miss Elizabeth though he begins o quake and his chirping disappears. He completely changes when she's around.

"Brat! How dare you even think you deserve love! Romano-"

Romano? No, I'm Lovino Vargas. Isn't Romano the doll?

"Miss-"

She stops suddenly, her eyes full of shame and fear. She lets go of me immediately and begins to cry again. I just have to ask…

"Miss Elizabeth? Who is Romano?"
