Welcome back for the last time! It is finally time to find out who wins Total Drama High Seas! I've been planning this chapter since I started this story in July. Before we begin, I have a few things to say.
I have finished creating the cast of my next season. I'll be putting out a special at the end of this story a few weeks after this chapter, and then we'll swing into Total Drama Survival! The story takes place on a nightmarish island right out of JUMANJI where 24 new, crazy contestants will battle jungle cats, angry rhinos, giant spiders, man-eating plants, and most disturbingly, the judgment of their peers! Can't wait to see you there!
Second, thank you so much to all you who have read and reviewed, especially those who have stayed with me since I began the story last summer. It's been a long, crazy ride, filled with romance, drama, laughs and pain, but it's all about to come to a close. It's a little sad, but satisfying nonetheless.
Now, let me respond to some reviews for the final time:
Total Drama Nerd: Thanks for reviewing! Sorry about that Fan Fiction quote. I couldn't resist! So, sorry, not sorry ;)
The Abysswalker: I don't recall breaking the fourth wall during Lindsay's elimination. As for Chris and Sam, I pretty much copied that conversation verbatim from a conversation I had with a friend of mine that day...
kaijudude1000: You enjoy watching Amy suffer? Well, I enjoy making Amy suffer! We make a great team, don't we?
Guest: Can you imagine Amy's reaction? o_O
I.M. Poik: Yeah, it was pretty obvious. Lindsay's funny, so I had to put her in every chapter, but the true stars of this story are Sammy and Ezekiel! Also, no, I could not give every contestant a part in this story. Sorry if you're a fan of Justin, Katie, Sadie, Sierra, Beth, DJ, LeShawna, Owen, Staci or Anne Maria.
dirtbags: I've thought long and hard about it, but I figured the story would be better off if I only wrote the one ending. You'll see why soon!
Now it's time to respond to my own review template:
Funniest moment: Scott's "tuxedo." That was my favorite gag to write about. It still makes me laugh when I think about it! Oh and also the "grape soda incident" with Max. I've been planning that out forever!
Most dramatic moment: The Sky/Dave/Sammy love triangle brought about so many dramatic moments, but the most dramatic moment happened at the climax when Sky actually almost killed Sammy.
The most touching moment: When the contestants all came back to see each other again and make amends.
The most unexpected moment: All of them were expected! I'm the writer after all...
Saddest elimination: I really almost got a little misty-eyed when I had to get rid of Sky.
Most interesting challenge: I don't know! A lot of challenges were fun to write about!
And now we begin the end! Who will go home a million dollars richer and who will just go home? Let me hear it one last time: Total! Drama! HIGH SEAS!
Chapter 20: Polar Extreme!
STATEROOM 1 (ELLA & SUGAR)
It was early morning. The ship had just docked.
"Oh, Sugar!" Ella sang, "I'm so excited about this final challenge! What do you think it will be?"
"I don't know, missy!" Sugar snarled, "Won't you get a clue! Don't talk to me! I'm so sick of this! I can't wait to go home to the farm and compete in the Miss Hillbilly pageant! Maybe then, people will be able to actually recognize my talent!"
"Oh dear," Ella frowned, "But at least you enjoyed your time here with your friends, right?"
"What friends? I was put on a team with you, the smelly farm boy, the fitness gorilla, need I go on?" Sugar scolded.
"Oh, but surely you have your favorite to win," Ella smiled again.
"Yes. I hope Sammy wins! I don't like that skinny girl, but it's better than your good-for-nuthin boyfriend!"
"Oh my," Ella said, "You want Sammy to win just to spite my Zeke?"
"Yes! I do!"
Ella frowned again.
STATEROOM 2 (EVA & IZZY)
"So, Izzy, did you really take a beaver tranquilizer before that challenge?" Eva asked curiously.
"Oh, don't pretend you haven't tried it!" Izzy giggled.
"I haven't," Eva snarled, "I don't respect cheaters!"
"Oh, relax," Izzy said, "I didn't do it to cheat! I just wanted the buzz!"
"The buzz?" Eva quirked part of her unibrow.
"Yeah, you know, the buzz! The rush! The badonkadonk! The gazoomazoom!"
"The gazoomazoom?" Eva asked, now more confused than angry.
"The gazoomazoom!" Izzy grinned, "Zoom, zoom!"
STATEROOM 3 (DAKOTA)
"No, I miss you more!" Dakota cooed over the phone.
"Really?" Sam asked over his own phone, because I missed you to the planet Kashiek!
"What?" Dakota asked.
"Star Wars?" Sam replied, "It's the planet where the Wookies come from."
Dakota rolled her eyes, but secretly found it cute when Sam talked nerdy to her.
"So, who are you rooting for?" Dakota asked Sam.
"Hard to say," Sam replied, "They're both underdogs, but they've both made it to the end. I think it would be awesome to see Ezekiel win because he got eliminated first in the other seasons."
"I don't know," Dakota said, "I'd like to see Sammy win, myself. I'm proud of how far she's come."
"Either way," Sam said, "I'd be happy. Both of the finalists have made great strides."
"Yeah!" Dakota said.
STATEROOM 4 (RODNEY & SCOTT)
"I missed you, Scott!" Rodney told his friend, hugging him to breathlessness.
When Scott didn't respond, Rodney said, "Didn't you miss me?"
"Can't...breathe!" Scott's face was paling.
"Oops, sorry," Rodney released Scott.
"Yes," Scott panted, "I missed you. You were a good buddy."
STATEROOM 5 (EZEKIEL & SHAWN)
"Are you pumped?" Shawn asked Ezekiel.
"Yeah!" Ezekiel responded.
"Are you ready?"
"Yeah!"
"Are you ready to kick some zombie butt?"
"YEAH-What?"
"Oh, sorry," Shawn said, "Old habits die hard, I guess."
Ezekiel smiled, "I guess they do," he agreed, "Do you have any tips for the final challenge?"
"I might," Shawn said, "if I knew what the final challenge was."
"It's probably going to be some race or something, eh?" Ezekiel asked.
"Possibly," Shawn said, "But Chris is a tricky man. He's like the smartest zombie."
STATEROOM 6 (NOAH)
Noah hadn't expected to have a warm homecoming. He almost felt guilty about his actions when he was still in the competition. He rolled his wheelchair into his stateroom. It was difficult because his arms still lacked a lot of mobility and his fellow ex-contestants were less than willing to help him out. He sighed as he entered his room, hoping that his electrification would wear off soon.
STATEROOM 7 (COURTNEY & SAMMY)
"Sammy! I still can't believe it!" Courtney squealed at her friend.
"Neither can I! I was sure I'd be booted early when I first came here!" Sammy told her roommate.
"Nah," Courtney said, "I've had confidence in you all along. Of course, if it weren't for me, you wouldn't have unlocked that potential!"
"That's true," Sammy said, "Thank you so much! Seriously, you've been my best friend here in the competition!"
"Aw, it was nothing," Courtney replied, "I'd run for office with you any time! Of course, you'd be the vice-president!"
"Thanks, Courtney!" Sammy said, "It really means a lot. You don't mince words."
The two embraced in another friendly hug.
STATEROOM 8 (BRIDGETTE & LINDSAY)
"So Noah really switched the votes?" Lindsay asked.
"Yep," Bridgette said.
"If it weren't for him, you might've been in the final two!" Lindsay said, angry at Noah.
"I don't really care," Bridgette replied, "Sure, I would've liked to be in the final two, but what's done is done. There are more important things than money. I'm only eighteen. I have a whole life ahead of me."
"Things are more important than money?" Lindsay asked, incredulous, "Daddy said I'm not even more important then his money!"
"Your dad's advice seems very shallow," Bridgette noticed, "Don't let him tell you what to do. You are an amazing, beautiful young lady. If he can't see that, it's his problem."
"And smart, too, right?" Lindsay asked.
Bridgette smiled, debating whether to be nice or honest.
"You've had your moments," Bridgette said.
"Thanks!" The blonde smiled.
STATEROOM 9 (HEATHER & SKY)
"So, it looks like your man is taken for good," Heather snarled at Sky.
"He's not my man," Sky said calmly, "He's made that clear, but as long as he's happy, I think I'll live."
"I can't believe Samey was willing to forgive and forget," Heather told her roommate.
"Her name is Sammy," Sky corrected.
"Whatever," Heather rolled her eyes, "I wish I got to meet Amy. Seems like we'd be good friends."
"I'm sure you would," Sky scoffed.
STATEROOM 10 (TRENT & DAVE)
"So you and Sky made up..." Trent summed up.
"Yeah," Dave said, "We've both done things we aren't proud of. It's too stressful to hold a grudge, you know?"
"Yeah, I guess," Trent said, "You just seemed so angry when Sky pushed Sammy into those lasers. I watched that episode."
"I was," Dave confessed, "But then I thought about it. In the finale of Pahkitew Island, I tried to injure her just as much over something similar."
"I know," Trent said, "When I found out that Gwen was into Duncan and not me, I was devastated."
Dave smiled. He was glad Trent was so easy to talk to.
"Who are you rooting for?" Dave asked.
"I'm rooting for Sammy," Trent said, "I've always liked her. I've felt sorry for her and I've always known that she would break out of her shell."
"Yeah," Dave said, "I'm rooting for Sammy, too. I know she'll win."
STATEROOM 11 (TYLER & ALEJANDRO)
"Aye, this season did not go very well for me," Alejandro told Tyler, "I was the first of my team to be eliminated, I lost my girlfriend, I just can't wait to go home."
"I wish I felt sorry for you Al," Tyler said apathetically, "But you deserved it."
"I know I did," Alejandro said with regret, "But please do not call me Al."
"Why do you do the things you do?" Tyler asked.
"I get too into the competition," Alejandro confessed, "I want to win. I want things to go my way. When you have my charm and my rhetorical abilities, it is easy to manipulate people. Sometimes that is the only way to get what you want."
"Isn't that dishonest?" Tyler asked.
"It may be," Alejandro said, "But the ends justify the means. Had I been given the opportunity to compete again, I cannot say I would ditch my tactics."
"And that's why nobody here likes you," Tyler concluded.
"But what are a few arbitrary friends when there is a competition to be won?"
Tyler rolled his eyes. There was no getting to this guy.
STATEROOM 12 (BRICK & GEOFF)
"Are we going to throw the biggest party for the winner or what?" Geoff asked his roommate.
"You can," Brick said, "I'm not much of a partier."
"Aw, dude," Geoff protested, "You can't spend your entire life without having a little fun!"
"I do have fun," Brick said, "I'm just not as big of an extrovert as you."
"Extra-what?" Geoff asked.
"Nothing," Brick replied.
MAIN DECK
Chris stood in front of the 20 ousted contestants.
"You guys all blew it in one way or another," Chris said, "But it's time to give it up for our two finalists! In the left corner is the cheerleader who got her moxie back after years of torment! Give it up for Sammy!"
The contestants applauded as Sammy walked onto the main deck and stood in front of them. She smiled and waved at her ex-teammates.
"And in the right is the home-schooled nutjob! The feral freakshow who became a gentleman who isn't totally awful to be around! Ezekiel!
Ezekiel walked in front of the twenty teens and bowed.
"The ship has docked!" Chris announced, "The final challenge will be announced soon, but first, I want to hear you tell the folks back home who you're rooting for!"
CONFESSIONAL: SUGAR
"I think I should've been up there! I'm the best there is and I am buh-yoo-tee-full! Can't believe I got booted first! I'm only rootin' for Samey because it would make that Ella bitch happy if Ezekiel won!"
CONFESSIONAL: SHAWN
"I'm rooting for Zeke! That guy is really cool! But he's never seen a zombie movie before! I can't believe it! After he wins, I'm gonna take him to see one so he knows how to properly prepare for doomsday!
CONFESSIONAL: ALEJANDRO
"I want Sammy to win. I relate to her. Both of us have lived our entire lives in the shadows of a bullying older sibling. I already had my victory. It's time for Sammy to have hers."
CONFESSIONAL: TRENT
"I'm going for Sammy. I'm proud of her for overcoming her insecurities."
CONFESSIONAL: EVA
"Zeke's not sexist anymore and I'm a very forgiving person. GOT IT?"
CONFESSIONAL: HEATHER
"What can I say? Ezekiel's the man! He's pretty cool for a dork and maybe if he wins, he can give me my million dollars that he robbed me out of in World Tour! I'll make sure he does!"
CONFESSIONAL: IZZY
"Izzy's vote is for Ezekiel! Ezekiel's wild and crazy! Izzy like! Izzy really like!"
CONFESSIONAL: SCOTT
"My money's on Ezekiel to win. Samey's not as useless as I thought, but Ezekiel was still a better player. Don't tell Courtney!"
CONFESSIONAL: ELLA
"I very much wish for my Prince Charming Ezekiel to win. Maybe then, we can go on our very first romantic date! I'm thinking dinner, dancing, romance..."
CONFESSIONAL: DAKOTA
"I'm going for Ezekiel! Sam said he was rooting for him and both of us have faced similar...problems as far as the competition goes."
CONFESSIONAL: GEOFF
"I'm rooting for Sammy! She'd be an awesome girl to party with! Not as awesome as my Bridge, but still awesome!"
CONFESSIONAL: SKY
"I'm rooting for Sammy. I owe it to her for being such a bitch."
CONFESSIONAL: DAVE
"I want Sammy to win, duh!"
CONFESSIONAL: RODNEY
"I'm rooting for Ezekiel! We farmhands gotta stick together!"
CONFESSIONAL: COURTNEY
"Let's go Sammy! I know you can do it!"
CONFESSIONAL: BRICK
"Sammy's a really good friend of mine and I would be more than willing to help her win that million, no matter how dangerous the challenge is!"
CONFESSIONAL: TYLER
"Lindsay and I disagree on who to cheer for. She likes Sammy, but Ezekiel's a really cool dude. I wish I got to know him better."
CONFESSIONAL: BRIDGETTE
"Sammy's a real sweetheart and one of my best friends. I would love to see her win this competition."
CONFESSIONAL: NOAH
"Ezekiel was an asset and Samey was a pain in the ass."
CONFESSIONAL: LINDSAY
"Sammy! Sammy! She's our girl! If she can't do it...um...hold on, let me think of a rhyme..."
END CONFESSIONALS
"Alright!" Chris exclaimed as Topher and Amy brought out a giant television screen, "Now, as your reward for making it this far, I'm going to give you a few minutes to talk face-to-face with your loved ones back home!" Chris was handed a remote and pressed a button.
The man who was onscreen looked about 50. He had a graying beard and glasses and wore a toque like Ezekiel's
"Dad!" Ezekiel screamed at the sight of his father.
"Hello, Ezekiel," the man on the screen greeted his son, "Have you been taking care of the girls?"
"You know it father!" Ezekiel said, "But some of the girls don't even need to be taken care of!"
"You know I was joking when I said to take care of them, right?"
"Oh, you were?" Ezekiel asked.
"Yeah," Ezekiel's father responded, "You know how mad your mother was at me when you came home from Total Drama Island."
"Yeah," Ezekiel said, "She was pretty angry, eh? Speaking of which, where is she?"
"She's running a little bit late. She had a lot of papers to grade back at the school."
"Sometimes she works herself too hard," Ezekiel said. His father nodded.
"So tell me about your new girlfriend," Ezekiel's father smiled impishly.
"Oh, she's great! She's sweet and understanding, even when I say the wrong thing and she's very optimistic!"
"That's good," Ezekiel's father said, "She seems like quite a catch!"
"She's much more than just a catch!" Ezekiel blushed.
"Well, you've got to start your challenge. Your mother and I will be cheering for you back home!" said Ezekiel's father.
"Thanks, dad," Ezekiel said. Static covered the television screen and it went black.
"Sammy, it's your turn!" Chris said.
A woman appeared on the screen. She had shoulder-length dirty blonde hair and light green eyes. She wore a kind smile on her face.
"I'm so proud of you," the woman said.
Sammy was ecstatic. She'd never heard her parents say that in her life. Whether it was athletics, grades, competitions, anything, Amy would always be a little bit better.
"Thanks, Mom," was all Sammy could manage.
"You've grown into quite the young woman, Samantha. I'm extremely impressed with all of the strides you have made."
"Mom, you're embarrassing me," Sammy blushed.
"I'm sorry. I just can't stress enough how proud your father and I are of you."
"Hi, Mrs. Callion!" Dave said to Sammy's mother.
"You must be Dave. Samantha told me a lot about you."
"Samantha?" Dave asked. He'd never heard anyone call his girlfriend by her real name.
Mrs. Callion chuckled, "Go out and win the whole thing for us Samantha," she told her daughter, "But before I sign out, Amy, I'd like a word with you."
Amy stumbled up to the television to confront her mother. Her sister had never seen her so unsteady.
Mrs. Callion's happy face turned fierce, "Amy Elizabeth Callion, what in God's name is wrong with you?"
"Mom? I...I don't know!"
"Samantha is your twin sister! The two of you share a bond that extremely few people enjoy."
"I know," Amy said, "But, she's so mean to me!"
"Don't play the victim here!" Mrs. Callion scolded, "You have harassed your sister for years. Thanks to you, her self-esteem was greatly damaged."
"I didn't mean to. She's just..."
"No. You meant to. Have you forgotten that I'm a child psychologist. Do you know how many girls your age commit suicide because they're bullied and don't have the self-esteem to continue?"
"Mom, we've had this talk," Amy said.
"But you haven't listened," Mrs. Callion stated, "How would you feel if you lost your sister because of your incessant torment?"
"I don't know," Amy stuttered, "I really don't care."
"You say that now, but I know better. You've never lost somebody that close to you. If that happens, your life would change forever. Think about it, Amy."
The screen turned black and Amy's mother was off the screen.
Chris and the contestants stared blankly. Amy was a mess. She'd just been roasted and she wasn't used to weakness.
"O...K, then," Chris said awkwardly, follow me off the ship.
The contestants were hit by a blast of cold. They were surrounded by ice and snow covering a wide swath of land as far as they could see.
"Ok," Chris said, Team Sammy, stand under the left heat lamp. Ezekiel's team under the right!"
The twenty eliminated contestants split up into their groups. Sammy and Ezekiel stood in front of the host.
"Welcome to the Arctic! Now, for the final challenge of Total Drama High Seas, you must finish the Icy Obstacle Course of Doom! First up is the slog through the meter-deep snow. Then you must climb up a sheer 15-meter cliff, ski down the snowy decline at a 45-degree angle, slip and slide across the icy lake and ride a dog sled across the remainder of the course, which is marked by the flags. The first player to finish the race wins one million dollars and the title of the Total Drama High Seas Champion!"
"Yeah! I am so going to win!" Ezekiel cheered.
"Normally, I would doubt you," Chris said, "but you've managed to surprise us all by making the final challenge, so I guess it could happen."
"Yeah it could!" Ezekiel screamed, enthusiastically.
"Alright, before we get to the pain and agony and pain, the finalists will get two partners to tackle the final challenge with them!"
CONFESSIONAL: EZEKIEL
"Going by athletic ability alone, my order for partners would be: Eva, Rodney, Brick, Sky, Alejandro, Tyler, Bridgette, Geoff, Izzy, Shawn, Scott, Lindsay, Trent, Courtney, Sugar, Dave, Dakota, Heather, Ella...Really, anyone but Noah."
END CONFESSIONAL
"Ezekiel, who will you pick to be your partners?" Chris asked.
Ezekiel looked at his supporters. Shawn, Eva, Sugar, Heather, Scott, Izzy, Ella, Rodney, Tyler and Noah all collectively looked back.
"If I was going by physical skills alone," Ezekiel thought aloud, "I would pick Eva and Rodney, but I know better. I pick the two here with the most unique skills: Ella and Shawn."
Ella and Shawn went to stand next to Ezekiel. Shawn gave him a high-five while Ella hugged him.
"Alright, Sammy, who do you want to take to help you?" Chris asked.
"First of all," Sammy said, "Brick's been a really good friend of mine and is quite strong and really loyal, so I choose him first!"
Brick walked up to Sammy and saluted his friend, "I will do my best to support!"
"Second, I'll pick the girl who, above anyone, contributed to my newfound confidence: Courtney!"
Courtney smiled and hugged her friend, "I...I mean we are so going to win!"
"Nice to have you back," Sammy smiled at Courtney.
"Now here's the twist," Chris said, "In order to win the challenge, every member of your group must cross the finish line!
The two teams of three lined up at the start.
Chris held up his megaphone, "Three, Two, One, Go!"
The six teens were off. Team Sammy rocketed out of the starting gate and soon came to the stretch of the thick snow.
"I did not dress for this weather," Courtney whined.
"Come on," Brick encouraged, trudging through the thick snow, "I've been through snow twice this thick!"
"Well, not all of us are failed marines!"
"Who you calling a failure, you wannabe politician!
"Military brat!"
"Law-school reject!"
"Fitness gorilla!"
"Drama queen!"
"Come on guys," Sammy implored, "Don't bicker! I need help from both of you!"
Brick and Courtney glared at each other as they continued to hike through the thick snow. Their iciness (no pun intended) made things a little bit awkward for Sammy.
Meanwhile, Ezekiel and is team were racing to keep up. Shawn was not having any problems hiking through the snow. He was very physically fit and carried Ella, who was weaker, on his shoulders.
"So, Ezekiel," Ella asked, "What do you plan to do with the money if you win?"
"I'm going to travel. I haven't really gotten out much. I'd like to go to a bunch of other countries," Ezekiel answered.
"Will you take me with you?" Ella asked.
"Of course, my princess," Ezekiel answered, making Ella blush and giggle.
"That's pretty dumb, if you ask me," Shawn said to Ezekiel, "If I were you, I'd invest in a shelter for the zombie invasion. Keep yourself safe from the zombies. Traveling is the worst thing you can do!"
"Shawn," Ezekiel said kindly, "I don't think there's any such thing as zombies."
"That's what the zombies want you to think so they can eat you without you knowing!"
"Maybe," Ezekiel said, "I'll have to keep an eye out."
"You'll have to keep both eyes out, or the zombies will eat them!" Shawn said
"Do zombies not only eat brains?" Ella asked.
"No, they'll eat whatever parts of you they can get their hands on," Shawn answered, still supporting Ella on his shoulders.
A few meters ahead were Sammy, Brick and Courtney. They had not spoken to each other since Sammy told them not to fight, but they shot each other dirty looks every few minutes.
The trio arrived at the 15-meter sheer cliff that loomed above them. The rocky cliff extended straight into the air, with a few small and far-between grooves that could be used as footholds.
"Any ideas?" Sammy asked her teammates.
"No, miss," Brick responded, "I don't know how to get up there."
"Of course you don't," Courtney rolled her eyes, "It's quite obvious. All we need to do is stand on top of each other."
"What an impractical idea!" Brick scoffed.
"Alright, I'll show you," Courtney said, "Let me get on your shoulders."
Brick crouched down and Courtney climbed onto his broad shoulders. Courtney jumped and grabbed a handhold.
"Get up on his shoulders, Sammy," Courtney cried.
Sammy did as instructed and managed to grasp another handhold.
"Now what about me?" Brick asked.
"Sorry!" Courtney smirked, "No room for losers in the finale!"
"Chris said we all have to finish," Brick scolded.
"Ugh, fine," Courtney said, approaching the top of the cliff. She reached a hand down.
"I can't reach," Brick said, noticing the several meters between them.
Courtney noticed a few ski poles at the top of the cliff. She grabbed one and tossed it down to Brick. Brick grabbed it.
"Now what? Brick asked.
"Stab it into the snow on the cliff and cling on!" Courtney screamed as Sammy met her on the top, "Are you an idiot?"
"We can live without the rude comments," Brick chastised as he grabbed the pole and started to ease his way up.
As this happened, Ezekiel, Shawn and Ella had just reached the foot of the cliff.
Ezekiel noticed Brick nearing the top and shouted to his team, "Quick! They're ahead!"
"I know how we're going to do this," Shawn said, keeping Ella on his shoulders, "Hang on, Ella!"
Shawn jumped straight into the air, grasping a handhold. Then, he expertly jammed his foot onto the hold and sprang up again. Ella was screaming, clinging to Shawn for dear life. As Shawn jumped a few more times, he deposited a still-screaming Ella to the top of the cliff.
"I'm not too crazy about this, eh?" Ezekiel whimpered.
"Do you want to win?" Shawn asked, quirking an eyebrow.
"Fine," Ezekiel conceded, clinging to Shawn's back. He began to jump again and reached the top in just a few strides.
"You're alive, my prince!" Ella swooned as Ezekiel hugged her.
At that time, Sammy, Brick and Courtney noticed only one pair of skis.
"Crap," Courtney cursed, "How are we all supposed to make it down if there's only one pair of skis?"
"I'll go down," Brick volunteered, "You girls cling to me."
"Our feet will be dragging," Courtney complained, "Do you know how dangerous that could be?"
"We've all survived worse," Brick shrugged. Sammy nodded.
"But I'd rather not go through the rest of this course with my fibula sticking out of my leg!" Courtney demanded.
"Take one for the team," Sammy instructed, "I'm doing it."
"Fine," Courtney surrendered, "But we'd better win."
On the other end of the cliff, Ezekiel found he was given only one pair of skis as well.
"I got a better idea than skiing," Ezekiel said, "Shawn, lie down on your belly."
Shawn lied down on his belly as instructed.
"Now, we ride Shawn down!" Ezekiel said. "The combined weight in a small space should make our momentum greater and us faster."
"Ride Shawn down," Shawn chuckled, "That's what she said."
"That's what who said?" Ezekiel asked, his sheltered brain unable to grasp the meaning of the phrase.
"Never mind," Shawn said, "Let's just go."
Ezekiel's team started down the decline a few seconds after Sammy's team, but was able to overtake the opponents with their greater momentum. By the time the two teams reached the end of the slope, Ezekiel's team was only a few seconds ahead.
Chris stood with the non-competing contestants under a heat lamp, watching a television showing the final challenge.
"It seems to be close!" Chris announced, "That's good! Obvious winners are bad for the ratings. Amy, would you mind setting up for the last part of the challenge?"
"W-What d-do you w-want me t-to d-do?" Amy chattered. She was not allowed to stand under the heat lamp.
"Just watch the dog sleds to make sure the dogs don't run away and that nobody, *cough*, Courtney, *cough,* takes the opponent's sled."
"Th-this is s-so stupid," Amy snarled, holding herself as she walked off.
Amy jogged across the flagged portion of the course. She was a fairly competent runner and made it a few miles before collapsing from the cold.
She stopped on an ice shelf overlooking the freezing water below. She dropped down and fell into the fetal position, hugging herself in a desperate effort to maintain body heat.
Amy's problems got worse when the shelf she was lying on crumbled and Amy took a twelve-foot plunge into the freezing water below.
Sammy, Brick and Courtney had reached the frozen lake. They managed to slip across. Luckily, the ice held under the weight of the unlikely trio.
Barely ahead of them were Ezekiel, Shawn and Ella. They were struggling to cross as Ella kept slipping back and dragging Ezekiel back whenever she did. Sammy, Brick and Courtney overtook them as they kept falling back. It was a quick slide as all of them built momentum beforehand.
Sammy, Brick and Courtney all approached their dogsled. The two huskies that were tied to it were both in a quiet slumber.
"Aw," Sammy said, petting one of the dogs, "It's so cute!"
"Yeah," Courtney said, "The dog's cute, now let's go! We have a contest to win!"
Courtney, Sammy and Brick jumped on board the sled. Courtney took the reigns and snapped them to wake the dogs. She snapped with too much force, making both dogs yelp. She cracked the reigns again and they were off.
The dogs ran along very quickly, with Brick and Sammy enjoying the view as Courtney controlled the movement of the dogs. For a frozen tundra, the sights were very beautiful.
The team neared a portion of track overlooking an expanse of water. The water shimmered as not a cloud was in the sky. Brick and Sammy looked at the sparkling water as Sammy noticed something odd ahead.
The figure was humanoid, floating facedown in the water. Sammy noticed the figure's blonde hair and immediately knew who it was.
"Stop the sled!" Sammy screamed at Courtney who pulled the reigns on instinct, halting the dogs.
"We were winning!" Courtney screamed, "What are you doing?"
"Amy is down there in the water!" Sammy cried, "She's passive. We need to get her out!"
"We can get her out after we win!" Courtney said.
"No," Brick said firmly, "We never leave someone in danger."
"But Amy's a total creep! She's been awful to you Sammy!" Courtney protested.
"That's true," Sammy agreed, "But she's still my sister and I still love her."
"But..."
"No buts," Sammy instructed firmly, "We're saving Amy."
Sammy grabbed the extra rope attached to the sled.
"I'm going to tie myself to this rope," Sammy explained, tying the rope around her waist, "Brick, lower me down into the water so I can retrieve Amy. When I have her tight, I'll pull twice, and you'll raise us up."
"Yes'm," Brick saluted, grabbing the rope.
Sammy was lowered down to the water level and extended her arms to grab her sister. The adrenaline made it easier to grab her. She pulled on the rope twice, while checking for vitals on her sister.
As Brick hoisted Sammy and Amy up, Sammy noticed that Amy was breathing. That was a good sign. It meant that she was safe for the time being.
"She's alive," Sammy told Brick, panting, "Get her on the sled and we'll get her to safety soon."
Brick picked Amy up in a fireman's carry and lowered her unconscious body into the sled.
"We'll keep going," Sammy said, "Courtney, start the sled. Brick, continue checking Amy's vitals. If she wakes up, try to keep her warm and give her comfort. Let's go!"
Courtney snapped the reigns, a snarl on her face.
"While you two were busy lollygagging," Courtney scolded, "Ezekiel took the lead! We need to keep going!"
The two dogs started moving faster.
"We've got the lead!" Ezekiel shouted, "We're going to win! We're going to win!"
"Yeah!" Shawn yelled, "We're gonna do it!"
"Why did the other team just stop like that?" Ella asked herself, "Did the dogs get tired?"
"I don't know," Shawn said, "But either way, we're winning!"
"Get ahead!" Courtney screamed, cracking the reigns on her dogs, making them run at full speed.
"Loosen up a little," Sammy instructed, "Dogs are sprinters. They can't run long distances with that speed. They'll get tired."
"Shut up, Sammy," Courtney yelled, a determined smile on her face, "I've got this!"
"Amy, are you ok?" Brick asked, without a response.
"Yes! I see the other team!" Courtney told her teammates.
"They're gaining on us!" Shawn said, looking back, "Ella, get them to go faster!"
"I'm trying!" Ella whined, "I can't do it! They're getting tired!"
"Snap them a little more," Shawn instructed.
"No," Ella said, "That would hurt them!"
"Hah!" Courtney overtook Ezekiel's team, "See you in second place, losers!"
"Pick it up!" Ezekiel pleaded to Ella, "Sing to the dogs!"
Ella began to sing to the dogs. The dogs picked up speed with the little energy they had left.
"I see the finish!" Ezekiel told his team.
"I see the finish!" Sammy told her team.
"I see the contestants!" Chris told the 16 non-competing teens, "And they're really close!"
The contestants pulled up, neck and neck. Nobody could tell who the victor was going to be. They cheered loudly for the contestant they were supporting.
The two teams of three crossed the finish line.
"It's a photo finish! It's a photo finish!" Chris screamed, "This is going to be great!"
Sammy, Brick and Courtney were panting, as were their two dogs. Amy was still unconscious.
"Get Amy to the hospital deck on the ship, quick!" Brick said, "She's losing her vitals!"
"I'm on it," Bridgette responded, "I know first aid."
Bridgette took Amy in her arms and ran off to the ship.
"So who won?" Ezekiel panted.
"I don't know," Chris said, "Chef, the photo!"
Chef walked up to Chris with a photograph in his hand.
"Ooh," Chris said, "This was close! I can't believe the final challenge was so close, but one group was barely ahead! And the group that managed to finish first is...

COMMERCIAL BREAK
Rich Moneyman stood next to a container of some sort of cleaning solvent.
"This is called Cleaning Wizard!" Moneyman said.
"Did somebody say wizard?" A puff of smoke spontaneously appeared. Out of the smoke walked a teenage boy in a green wizard's robe that looked homemade.
"Leonard! You weren't supposed to be in this commercial!"
"I was summoned by the mention of the word 'wizard!'"
"It's not a real wizard," Moneyman informed Leonard, "Just a really good cleaning solvent. It destroys stains like magic!"
"Ooh! Magic!" Leonard exclaimed, "Can I see the magic?"
"Fine," Moneyman face-palmed. He spilled a bunch of grape juice on a square of carpet. Then he spilled the cleaning solvent on the stain and scrubbed it off. The carpet was like new within seconds.
"That's it?" Leonard asked, "I could do that in my sleep! Watch this! Hocus Pocus!" Leonard waved his hands and nothing happened.
"Um, yeah," Moneyman said, "I'm done here."
END COMMERCIAL
Chris stood in front of the twenty-two teens on the deck of shame, the photograph in his hand.
"And the winner of the challenge, the season and one million dollars is:"

"Sammy."
"I won," Sammy sighed, "I won. I won! I won! I WON!" Sammy fanned herself, "I can't believe it! I won something! Yeah! I did it!"
"Yeah! We did it!" Courtney hugged the cheerleader.
"Great job squad!" Brick high-fived Courtney and Sammy.
"I knew you could do it!" Bridgette congratulated her friend.
"Congrats," Trent smiled.
"Great job!" Sky smiled.
Ezekiel looked devastated.
"Everything alright?" Ella asked Ezekiel.
"Yeah, I guess so," Ezekiel said, "I made it further than anybody thought I would. I made friends and I met the most beautiful girl ever."
"Who's that?" Ella asked.
Ezekiel gave a sly (or what he thought was sly, but actually more silly) smile to Ella.
"Aw, you!" Ella embraced Ezekiel, hugging the prairie boy.
"Brick," Courtney smiled, "Sorry about the crap I've given you."
"No problem lady. A soldier never forgets, but he always forgives!" Brick responded.
"It's just that...I get really into the competition and sometimes I forget that there are other people besides me," Courtney said.
"Just the fact that you admit that makes you better than most of the people here," Brick smiled.
"Yes!" Izzy yelled, "Everything's good! What now?"
Geoff was the first to answer, "Party at the pool deck! Woohoo!"
Everybody followed Geoff to the pool deck. Sammy was hoisted into the air by her fellow competitors as the group ran to the pool deck.
And for once there was no tension or strife or drama. Just twenty-two teens, a host and a cook having a good time as the ship sailed back to the initial port.
When the ship arrived at port, Chris held out his briefcase.
"Sammy, you are the champion of Total Drama High Seas! Here is your prize: one million dollars!"
"Thank you!" Sammy said as she took the case.
"Sammy, you just won Total Drama High Seas!" Chris announced, "What are you going to do now?"
"I'm going to Disney World!" Sammy shouted.
"Cool, can I come?" Chris asked.
"Um, no!" Sammy said, "But everyone else can! Even you, Chef! And find that Ted kid. He was cool!"
The contestants all cheered, even Heather.
It was going to be another great time, and why not? They've had enough drama for one lifetime...
THE END OF TOTAL DRAMA HIGH SEAS
Now, the story is not complete yet. There's still going to be a special episode transitioning this season into my new season in which you'll meet our new twenty-four crazy contestants.
Until next time, Tigerfang98, signing out! Remember to review, stay in school, don't drink and drive, and I'll see you next time...
