Chapter 11
Gabriel lay on his Hospital bed that night seething. They kill my friends; show no remorse for it, and then they blame my family for it!? No, they won't get away with it. Gabriel took a deep breath and concentrated like he had the night before. He focused on his last unhealed wound, his broken leg. He put his pillow in his mouth and concentrated as hard as he could to make the bones reform and reshape themselves. The pain was excruciating as he forced his body to do in one night what should have taken at least a month for a halfa to heal naturally.
Tears poured out of his eyes at the pain, but he didn't stop. The pain consumed him and he let it fuel his rage at the death of his friends. For Lily, and Kory, and Mike, and Lucas, and Mrs. Grant! He screamed in his head as he bit harder into his pillow to suppress his screams as he forced his body to heal unnaturally. THEY WILL ALL PAY! Gabriel roared in his mind and made a muffled roar through his mouth as he felt his leg's bones finally become whole once more. "Gah," he gasped as he let go of his pillow, it was ruined now. His mouth felt like a parched desert.
The now healed halfa made his leg intangible and phased it through its cast then got up shakily from his bed. His legs felt wobbly from several days of not being used and he needed the fluid stand that was attached to his arm to walk over to a jug of water and a cup that was next to it. He quietly drank three cups of the refreshing water then heard his Mom get up from the chair she was sleeping on. "You shouldn't have done that," she told him. Gabriel looked at her and said, "What would you have me do, Mom? You saw that transmission, they're not fooling around. They could come after us here anytime." Marie sighed and brushed her long hair out of her face as she said, "You're right, unfortunately. I had hoped that we could resolve this peacefully, but we have no choice now. Your Father and I were working on a device to track the exhaust from their jetpacks, if Michael heals up soon too then we can finish it faster. But for now, Gabriel, you need your sleep after what you did."
He felt weak as he climbed back onto his Hospital bed and drifted off to unconsciousness in very little time, barely hearing as his Mom kissed him goodnight and said, "Sleep peacefully my little angel." Alas, sleep was far from peaceful…
Eight year old Gabriel kicked the soccer ball to Mike who was wearing his new Danny Phantom shirt. Mike then passed the ball to Kory, who missed it and had to run after it. The ball rolled into the street and Kory didn't see the car coming. Quick as a flash Gabriel went Ghost, black rings flew up and down his body, turning his blonde hair and grey eyes glowing green and his white t-shirt and denim shorts turned into a white jumpsuit and cape with black belt, boots and gloves. He grabbed Kory and made them both intangible for the car to pass through them then carried him back to where they had been playing. Kory looked at him and said, "Why couldn't you save me again?" and the world filled with noise and fire…
The young halfa awoke from his nightmare with sweat dripping from his body, scaring Anna into jumping back from him. "It's okay, son, its okay," his Dad told him. "It was just a dream." Gabriel nodded at this and said, "I really gotta go," and hopped out of the Hospital bed and went into the bathroom. Gabriel sighed in relief at being able t relieve himself normally then washed his hands and went into his room to hear his Dad talking on his phone, "Yeah Mom, we're all at the Hospital off 56th. Gabriel forced himself to heal and Anna needed stitches, Michael's the only one not ready yet." Gabriel focused and heard his Grandma Sam's voice say, "Okay, we're coming, so are Jack and Chloe and everyone else. We'll be there in an hour." "Alright Mom, love you…be safe," Jerry told her. "You be safe too sweety," he heard his Grandmother said and Jerry hung up the phone.
