Chapter 13
An hour after the adults told the kids their plan everyone was in the living room of Gabriel's house, watching the feed from a camera/GPS locater hidden on his Mom's person. It was disguised as a cross necklace, the hope was that the Purifiers wouldn't be so petty as to destroy or take a necklace during a fight. Marie was flying over the city as publically as possible in her Ghost Form, waiting to be attacked. So far nothing had happened, which made Gabriel and his family even more nervous. "Maybe we overestimated them?" Aunt April suggested after another half hour. Jerry tapped his fingers on his chin as he thought about this, "Possibly. Maybe we've driven them underground and the videos were just bluffs to keep us from realizing how weak they were." He then tapped into his ear mic and said, "How are things going Dear?"
"Well from the looks of the clouds we're going to have rain either tonight or tomorrow morning, traffic is piling up on 34th and Young Street, and aside from all that; nothing," Marie told her husband. No, this was my chance! They can't get away with it! Gabriel quietly fumed. "Give me one more hour then I'm going to come home, it's pretty cold up here for those of us without Cold Cores," Marie said, then she was blasted from behind. "MARIE!" Jerry yelled as they saw her ghostly green hair cover the camera and the sky and city were spinning. "OOF!" Marie yelled as something hit her from behind and she started falling. "MOM!" Michael, Gabriel, and Anna yelled, then the view changed and electricity flew all around Marie then exploded out in an EMP blast.
A suit of black armor came into view and black rings flew over the camera. "Come on, let's see what you got," Marie challenged her attacker as her hands formed a ball of pure ghostly electricity. The Purifier fired lasers from its armor's arm cannons and the world was a blur as Marie in her Plasmius form dodged the lasers easily then threw the ball of electricity she summoned at her attacker. "Careful Marie, we need him to get back to base," Jerry reminded her. The electricity exploded into a miniature thunderstorm behind the armored fanatic and they turned when they saw it. "Holy Christ!" they heard the Purifier yell.
That little display of Marie's power was all they needed to turn invisible again. Marie pulled out the glasses Jerry had made and everyone heard her say, "I can see his trail, he's going pretty fast." "Give him another minute then follow him," Jerry told her. After a minute there was another blur as the fastest halfa on Earth followed the invisible trail at supersonic speed. She finally stopped at a building and they saw a large marble colored Hotel. "He's in there; I'm invisible right now so they can't see me. From the trail it looks like they're in the Executive Suite. This feels too easy, should I go now?" Marie informed them.
Everyone looked at each other and Grandpa Danny said, "Should one of us back her up?" Everyone was sure that he was mostly talking to Uncle Jack, he and Grandpa Danny were the only others that could fly at supersonic speed, if they went they could get there fastest. "I can go," Gabriel said. Everyone in the room stared at him and he said, "Michael and I have more power to burn than anyone else, and I've been thinking about seeing how fast I can go when I push it." "Gabriel this isn't a game, this is serious," Aunt Chloe told him then realized that was the wrong thing to say as soon as she said it. Gabriel glared at her with glowing green eyes as he said, "I know how serious this is. Those monsters killed my best friends, and I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure that they all go down." No one spoke for a minute then Grandpa Danny finally said, "Okay, I'll go with Gabriel to back up Marie."
Gabriel watched as his Grandpa went Ghost, white rings flew up and down his body, turning his silver hair and beard pure white, bright blue eyes turned glowing green, and his clothes were replaced with a black jumpsuit with white belt, boots, and gloves and his DP symbol on his chest. Gabriel went Ghost himself and his Dad told his Mom, "Gabriel and Dad are going to back you up, activate your phone tracker." Marie did so and Grandpa Danny took out his phone and then he and Gabriel went intangible and flew out of his house. "Follow me, and try to keep up," Grandpa Danny said. Gabriel focused his power on flying fast and two sonic booms erupted as the two of them blasted off. Less than two seconds later they were floating above his Mom, she looked like a female Vlad Plasmius with her black hair and green skin, red eyes, and white jumpsuit and cape with black belt, boots, and gloves.
Marie flew up and told her Father-in-law, "We need to go in fast, I'll go after the laptop if there is one and you and Gabriel will cover me." "Got it," Grandpa Danny said as his ghostly white aura surrounded him and Gabriel's own showed as well. The next second they crashed into the Executive Suite and saw a woman at a laptop. Marie sent a small arc of electricity at the woman, stunning her and grabbed it, but before they could leave a red laser barrier appeared over the walls. Marie kicked it and was knocked back. "It's a trap!" Grandpa Danny yelled as ten black armored people charged into the room. Gabriel acted quickly and created an ecto-energy shield around himself, his Mom, and Grandfather.
His barrier started cracking in seconds and Grandpa Danny made three copies of himself, "Get between us!" Grandpa Danny yelled and Marie and Gabriel got in the middle of the four Danny's.
"Gabriel, put the shield down…NOW!" Grandpa Danny yelled and Gabriel's ecto-energy shield disappeared. As soon as it was down the four Danny's yelled out Ghostly Wails, obliterating the furniture and windows in the Suite and knocking the Purifiers back. "The shield is down! Everyone out!" Gabriel's Mom yelled and the three of them flew out as fast as they could, heading straight for his house.
