Chapter 15

As soon as he heard the news about Lacy and Stacy Gabriel flew for the Hospital where he saw their parents in the Waiting Room. "Mr. and Mrs. Cosgrove you can't see your daughters right now! They're in intensive surgery right now; it's a miracle that they're breathing on their own! Right now they're in intense surgery, almost half their internal organs are hemorrhaging, combined with how malnourished and dehydrated they were, it will be a long time before they'll be able to respond to anyone," a tall male nurse who looked like he was part Hispanic and Asian told them. The Cosgroves then sat down next to Gabriel and his immediate family. His Dad couldn't crack the security for the laptop, so he had called an experienced white hat hacker to work on it. Gabriel's extended family was at his house with him right now.

After two hours and no word about Lacy and Stacy, Gabriel headed for the Hospital's prayer room. His Mom went with him as they walked through the Hospital, eventually finding it. They went in the prayer room and found a mostly bland room with a black carpet and light blue painted walls with several pews in the back. Gabriel and his Mom sat down at the pews and crossed themselves. Marie was silent as Gabriel quietly prayed, "God…I don't know what to do anymore. I thought that I wanted revenge, but right now I just want Lacy and Stacy to get better." Gabriel grasped his hands tighter as he went on, "Why do these things happen to us? I know that I'm not a saint, but I've tried to follow the path You've laid down for us, tried to treat others how I wished to be treated, I've never escalated any fight when I didn't need to, I haven't stolen anything, hurt anyone that didn't deserve it, or worshipped anything or anyone but You. Please, God, be with Lacy and Stacy now, and their parents, I don't need your help now, but they do."

Gabriel then took a breath and continued praying, "God our Father, Your power brings us to birth, Your providence guides our lives, and by Your command we return to dust. Lord, those who die still live in Your presence, their lives change but do not end. I pray in hope for my family, relatives, and friends Lisa, Kory, Mike, and Lucas, and Mrs. Grant, and for all the dead known to You alone. In company with Christ, Who died and now lives, may they rejoice in Your Kingdom, where all our tears are wiped away. Unite us again together in one family, to sing your praise forever and ever. Amen." Gabriel sniffed back his tears as he made one last prayer, "O Holy Father, please be with Lacy and Stacy. They did not ask for this fate that has befallen them, please help them heal, Amen." Gabriel and Marie left the prayer room and headed back for the waiting room. Gabriel then sat down and waited for whatever happened next.

After waiting for an hour he couldn't wait anymore. He got up and told his parents, "I'm going to the restroom." Just then his Dad's phone rang and Jerry answered, "Yes?" Gabriel didn't hear the rest as he went off on his own. He didn't head for the restroom though, instead he turned invisible and headed for the file room of the Hospital, following nurses around until he saw one go into the room. Gabriel held his breath and waited until the nurse left then went to the computer and saw that the nurse was looking up patient files. Lucky me, Gabriel thought as he typed in Lacy and Stacy's names. He found the room they were in, Floor 5 Room 7, Emergency Care. Gabriel went Ghost and flew to the room.

He was shocked at the sight of his friends. Lacy and Stacy were covered in bandages with multiple needles stuck in their arms. The life monitors beeped away monotonously as machines stuck to their necks helped them breathe. "Oh God," Gabriel quietly whispered as he became visible again. He went in between the twin sisters and took Lacy's right hand in his left and Stacy's left hand in his right. "I'm so sorry," Gabriel whispered to the comatose girls, "I shouldn't have let this happen to you." The monitors beeping sped up slightly. Then they sped up even more, "Come on girls, live," Gabriel begged them, then the monitors went flat. "What!?" he yelled then heard feet running into the room and turned invisible as he floated above his friends.

The doctors clambered around them and one yelled, "We're losing them, get the defibrillators now!"

Four nurses ran up with the defibrillator machines and two doctors powered them up to shock both sisters.

"CLEAR!" they both roared and shocked the girls. The monitors beeped and then went flat again, "AGAIN!" one of the doctors yelled, "CLEAR!"

They applied the defibrillators to them again and again only one beep and then flat line. "We need adrenaline shots now!" the doctor working on Stacy yelled then he and the doctor working on Lacy were handed two large needles.

The doctors stabbed the girls' chests.

Nothing.

The doctors sighed and one said, "Time." "NO!" Gabriel yelled as he turned visible again. He grabbed a doctor and yelled, "You got to save them!" "How did he get in here!?" the other doctor yelled and Gabriel yelled, "DO SOMETHING! SHOCK THEM, ADRENALINE, CPR, DO SOMETHING!" "I can't, they're gone!" the doctor yelled back at him. Gabriel dropped him and floated down then turned Human again, "NO! NO NO NO NONONONONONONONOOOOOOO!"
