Epilogue
Two weeks had gone by since Gabriel and his family had decimated the Purifiers. Using files obtained from their base, any remaining bases were found and the members arrested. All of that meant very little to Gabriel now as he and what seemed like most of Millertown came together for the funeral of those killed when his school was destroyed. It had been agreed that the dead would be buried together at a special plot that wasn't affiliated with any known religion. Priests of many different religions and denominations had arrived and said prayers for the fallen as they were buried. The sun had already set, and Gabriel and his family were all that were left of the mourners. Gabriel walked over to where he knew his friends were buried, it had been decided that as they were part of the school's soccer team that it would only be fitting that they would be buried together.
He walked among the freshly buried graves feeling completely numb. He saw Lucas's grave, it was uniformly grey marble, like the others, with his name and underneath that it said, "Beloved Son and Friend. Born: January 4, 2037 Died: October 3, 2052 May his soul live on in Glory." Underneath the words was a carving of a Soccer Trophy, there was one on each of his friends gravestones. Gabriel took a deep breath and said, "I'm sorry I couldn't save you guys. I tried, but I was too stupid to save you. I wanted to avenge you all so much…but it wasn't worth it. Forgive me." He then heard a voice say, "Time out." The next thing he knew he was wearing a gold medallion that looked like a clock gear and floating in front of him was what looked like a blue baby ghost with red eyes and a grandfather clock embedded in its chest, wearing a purple cloak and holding a black staff with a clock on it.
"Do you know who I am, Gabriel?" the ghost asked. "Clockwork," Gabriel replied, "Why are you here now?" "I came to give you a small gift, you chose right to not take revenge when you had the chance, for that I'm going to give you something you need," Clockwork answered. "What?" Gabriel asked. "Closure," the Ghost of Time answered and beside him appeared a figure in a black cloak and carrying a scythe.
YOU OWE ME AFTER THIS ONE CLOCKWORK.
The figure said, his voice feeling like a mallet of sound hitting Gabriel's ear. The Grim Reaper, for who else could it be, then waved an arm and before Gabriel appeared all his friends. Gabriel rushed to them and they all wrapped him in a group hug, "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm so sorry I couldn't save you!" Gabriel told them all. The spirit of Lacy told him, "It's alright, Gabriel. There are some things that no one can stop." "Don't worry about us, Gabriel, we're all fine now," the spirit of Lucas told him. Gabriel swallowed his tears and asked, "Thank you." "Take care man," the spirit of Mike told him. "We'll be watching you," the spirit of Lisa told him. "Take care of our parents for us," the spirits of Lacy and Stacy told him. "I will," Gabriel promised.
The Grim Reaper then waved his hands again and the spirits of Gabriel's friends all waved goodbye and were gone. "Will I ever see them again?" Gabriel asked the Grim Reaper.
THAT DEPENDS ENTIRELY ON YOU, AND WHAT YOU DO WITH THE TIME YOU HAVE.
The Grim Reaper told him and Clockwork said, "Time in." The next thing he knew, Gabriel was back in the cemetery, his family waiting for him and the medallion gone. Gabriel walked over to his family and his Dad said, "Are you going to be alright, Gabriel?" Gabriel looked back at the cemetery and said with a small smile, "Yeah, I think I am," and they all headed back to their car.
