Don't know how long it's been enjoy the chappie. This does become a bit like the Disney version. Won't stay like that for long and there won't be a singing/dance number. Bye.
"Dad?" a petite brown haired girl called from the stairs of her apartment.
"WHAT?" came an irritated voice.
"I'm going out. I'll be back later!" The brunette turned her liquid chocolate eyes to the door and waited for her father to answer.
"OKAY!"
Ally Dawson let a soft smile slip from her lips and quickly walked out of the building before her father could say anything else.
She was free. At least for a little while. She was heading over to the library.
As she did she passed some girls she knew from school. She didn't pay them any mind but they noticed her.
"Hey look its Ally Dull-son," The one named Brooke whispered to the other two girls.
Ally stopped and debated whether to turn around or not. Brooke she knew had dated Austin and it hadn't ended well. The two girls beside her had been known as the Two Stray Kitties, or something like that and Ally had once been a part of their group for about a week then quit.
She knew these girls they once had been normal girls. But now they were the worst threesome she knew of. Ally was always against hating people but these were three girls she just couldn't stand.
The three girls continued to whisper insults about Ally and her family.
"I heard her father lost his job and everything. Now they're living in a shack out in the middle of the woods."
"I heard she has to sell herself to pay rent."
"I heard her father lost all the money on drugs and prostitutes."
"I heard her mother upped and left 'em because she was being raped by her dad."
"I heard her mom was a drug addict and died of an overdose."
Each insult worse than the next.
Ally bit back tears and continued to walk to the library. The only place she ever wanted to be. Her friends had seemed to have left her. Austin had become world famous, Dez had gone off to pursue his new dream of teaching literature that had been two years ago. Trish hadn't written to her for about the same length of time.
She quickly entered the library and only when she sat down at a table did she let her tears fall.
The only other people that was there was a man in the nonfiction section, and the elderly librarian behind her desk.
She buried her face in her arms and cried. Her shoulders shook and her breaths were uneven.
The man came over to her and stared at her.
Ally sensed someone looking at her. She lifted her head and wiped her eyes and looked up. Expecting the librarian or the man still where they at. But she found her eyes meet with the eyes of the man. That's when she realized she wasn't looking at a stranger. She knew this man. She blushed and looked away whispering, "Hi, Dallas," As she did.
Dallas gave her a huge lopsided grin, "So she does remember me!"
Ally's blush got worse. She'd had a crush on Dallas for the longest time and it was still very hard to talk to him, "Of course I still remember you. How could I not?" She said as casually as possible.
"It's just… you've been rather cooped up lately. And I haven't seen you here in forever. Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing's wrong. I just had a lot of school work to catch up on," Ally lied.
"Alright, if you're sure…"
"I am."
"My shift is almost over, you wanna grab a bit?"
Ally felt her heart soar, "YES!" She shrieked then quickly corrected herself, "I mean… yeah, sure, whatever."
Dallas gave her a brilliant smile, "Great!" And he walked back to the nonfiction section to finish reorganizing.
Ally stared at Dallas with a dreamy look on her face. When movement caught her eye in front of her. She looked to see the librarian sit down beside her.
"Your name is Ally Dawson right?" The wrinkled librarian asked.
Ally nodded.
"And you come here often don't you?"
Ally realized she didn't recognize the librarian. She knew that one of Dallas's relatives owned the library but she couldn't remember who. She didn't know if the librarian was his grandmother or something or if she was just a hired hand.
Ally nodded again pushing the thoughts aside.
"I've heard a lot about you from that boy over there," The librarian gestured to Dallas.
"Are you his grandmother?" Ally asked.
"No, just a hired hand, I'm actually here for a friend, but I know Dallas. He's changed Ally… you don't mind if I call you that right?"
Ally shook her head. Now she felt a little confused, Dallas, change?
"I don't want you getting hurt. A nice girl like you. It's easy to see weakness. To try and take advantage of. You need to be very careful with your friends Ally," The librarian caught Dallas eyeing her with suspicion and was giving her a look that said, 'don't you mess up my plans'. She got the hint and stood.
Ally was now confused more than ever. She looked at Dallas again and he gave her a blue ribbon smile. At least, that's what it would have looked like to Ally a few minutes ago. But suddenly it looked like a crocodile smile. Something behind his bouncing beautiful brown eyes was something dark and sinister. Ally looked away hiding a gulp. She didn't dare place the emotion she saw.
She heard the bell from the door ring. She looked to the door to see a copper topped guy with a yellow jacket on a green and purple button up shirt with a red and yellow polka dot tie and red pants that didn't cover his ankles. He also had a red scarf around his neck and his shoes were just as out there as the rest of his outfit. She felt a surge of relief.
"Hey!" The boy called, "Could someone help me find my monkey?"
"Dez!" Ally cried.
Dez turned in the general direction of Ally and began to walk towards her talking as he went, "Ally! Is that you? Unless you're a robot alien cyborg who kidnapped—oaf!" Dez ran into the table Ally was sitting behind.
"Dez!" Ally cried suddenly fearing the worst, "Are you okay?"
He turned so his back was on the table and looked up at her, "Couldn't be better."
Ally chuckled, "Here let me help you."
Ally went around the table and pulled her friend up by the scarf and into a tight hug, "You have no idea how glad I am to see you!"
Dez grinned ear to ear, "I'd say the same but… well you know."
Ally was confused for a second then remembered about his condition. She giggled at his joke, "So you lost your monkey have you?"
Dez chuckled, "Yep, can't find Fifi anywhere. Do you think you could be my Fifi for a while? Until I find her."
Ally smiled, "of course Dez! Once we find your monkey we can get a coffee and a snack. I have some questions as to what you've been up to."
"I'd like that," Dez said.
Somebody cleared their throat behind the two friends, causing them to turn.
Dallas held back a glare and masked some sort of amused face, "I thought we had a date?"
Ally involuntarily pressed closer to Dez, "Oh, right. I'm sorry Dallas. It's just, I haven't seen Dez in years. You understand right?" Ally was never any good at flirting but she did her best to throw a flirtations smile his way.
Dallas pushed a smile, "Of course Ally. Maybe some other time," He turned and went back to his shelves.
Ally ginned. That went better than to be expected, "Come on Dez lets go."
"Was that the Dallas?" Dez muttered. He turned, guessing that it was, and tried to call over to him but Ally yanked him out of the library.
Dallas was steaming. He began mumbling to himself about how he was completely astonished by Ally's behavior. He hadn't been the only one to catch the easily misinterpreted gestures Ally had been giving Dez. The librarian had. And the sweet gray haired old lady quite enjoyed seeing Dallas's distress, "Awe," She said, "I'm going to the bathroom now," She left seeing Dallas's face was as red as a beat.
She eased her way into the bathroom, "Now onto the next step," The woman muttered as she looked into the mirror. Her features slowly changing.
…..
A week later
Ally let out a bell like laugh. She and Dez sat at a Ms. Susie's Soups in a both by a window.
Dez gave a few more chuckles, "It was definitely interesting," He paused for a moment, "Ally I'm moving back here. I got a job at the old mattress store."
Ally blinked feeling old memories come back, "But that place has been closed for years."
"Someone bought it and turned it into a home. I'm tutoring this kid. As far as I know he lives there alone. So I'm moving in with him."
"Oh, Dez that's great."
"Ally, I know I won't be able to really see you but if you ever need anyone to talk to you do have my number."
"I know Dez, I'll see you later?"
Dez nodded he got up and left.
"So," A large girl said, "You and Dez. Is there something…"
Ally jumped hearing Mindy's voice, "What? Dez and I? No there's nothing going on. We've just been catching up."
"I see," Mindy said, "Can I get you anything?"
"No, thank you," Ally said. She stood and nearly ran into Chuck, "Sorry!"
"No need to apologize chica." He said giving her a smile.
She smiled gratefully at him and was on her way. Having an excuse to get out and see Dez and be away from her abusive father had been a relief but Ally knew it was short lived. She sighed and headed home.
