Chapter 9: The Kanto Journeys Part 2
Two days after the Kanto Grand Festival had concluded, Ash and Ursula were back in Pallet Town. Pikachu was sitting on Ash's shoulder while Ursula was carrying Manaphy in her arms. Ash was also holding a cardboard box, which had the Ribbon Trophy inside.
Over the two days, not much happened on their walk. They had passed a couple of minor towns where they stopped at Pokemon Centres to rest at night and to restock on some supplies.
But the duo got a little harassment out of the public. There were large groups of children, teenagers and adults who wanted to see the duo in the flesh. Adults would congratulate them for their successes, children would ask for pictures to be taken with them and some autographs, but they felt a little disturbed by the teenagers. The boys would ask Ursula to go on a date with them while the girls would ask Ash the same question. The duo would always give them the same answer.
"No, thank you. I already have my sights set out on somebody else." They would both say.
The teenagers felt a little jealous and dejected by this, but they would soon later understand. When Ash and Ursula said about somebody else, they actually secretly meant each other.
As they walked back into the streets of Pallet Town, they noticed that there were some villagers in the open. Some of the adults congratulated the Ash and Ursula while the children went up close to say their congratulations the two of their favourite teenage inspirations.
Ursula thought. 'But why do I get a funny feeling that we are about to get a huge surprise out of the dullness?'
"Why don't we go to my house? You can meet my mom. She's a really great person. Plus, I need to put the Trophy away. It's starting to get a little heavy.", said Ash.
"Pikachu.", agreed Pikachu, but he was really hungry for some food with ketchup on top.
"Yay, we can see grandma again.", squeaked Manaphy with excitement.
"Manaphy, I keep on forgetting to tell you, but the since the last time we saw each other, your speaking has improved greatly.", complimented Ash.
"Thank you, Papa. I have been practicing.", replied Manaphy.
"That makes you even cuter. My little Manaphy is growing up so fast.", said Ursula.
"Thank you, Mama.", said Manaphy.
They group walked for a few more minutes. There were some people outside doing their business and children playing. As they passed, Ursula decided to hide Manaphy in her backpack, because the townsfolk were taking notice of them and congratulating them. At last, they arrived at their destination. The Ketchum Residence.
"Wow, so this is your house. Looks really pretty. My house back in Sinnoh isn't too different, just a little bit bigger.", complimented Ursula.
"Yeah, I grew up here all my life.", said Ash as he tried the front door. To their surprise, the door was unlocked and they entered.
"Mom, I'm home! And I've brought someone I'd like you to meet.", shouted out Ash. There was no response from anywhere inside the house.
"Strange, she would be here at this time of day before going shopping.", said Ash.
They entered the living room and faced the tall shelf next to the couch. This was the 'achievement shelf', as his mom called it. This was where the family would put their awards and trophies. There was Delia's Kanto League Cup, the Orange League Trophy, the Kanto Battle Frontier Plaque, the full sets of regional badges and the small trophy from when Ash won the racing competition with Bayleef. He took out the Kanto Ribbon Cup and carefully placed it on the top shelf.
"Wow, Ash. You sure have some impressive awards.", commented Ursula.
"Thanks. Did you have any achievements over the years?", asked Ash.
"Well, I got a certificate for winning a Poffin-making competition and all my other awards are just contest ribbons and gym badges.", replied Ursula, but she then noticed something on the coffee table, "Hey, Ash, what's that note lying on the table."
As Ash picked it up, he began to read it.
Ash,
If you come home today, I'm at Professor Oak's laboratory to help Samuel with some things. Come see us there. Also, Gary has come back from Sinnoh and Tracy has come back from Johto and are with us.
Mom
"Well, I guess we'll find the them at Professor Oak's lab.", said Ash.
"Ash, who's Tracy and Gary?", asked Ursula.
"Tracy Sketchet is a Pokemon Watcher who I met in the Orange Islands. He travelled with me through the Orange Islands along with Misty long enough to see me defeat Drake. As for Gary, he's my best friend from childhood and my archrival. He used to be a bit of a show-off when he was a trainer, but he's decided to become a Pokemon Researcher."
Ursula laughed. "I'm guessing he was a little bit irritating back then, wasn't he?"
"Yeah, but we are now friends more than rivals. Isn't that right, Pikachu?", said Ash.
"Pika Pika Chu.", said Pikachu.
"Well, then guys, lets get going.", said Ash.

As the gang finally made their way to the front door of the lab, they stopped for a brief moment to catch their breath.
"Well, here we are. Professor Oak's Pokemon Laboratory and Ranch.", said Ash.
"This place looks really fascinating. I wonder if Professor Oak was a trainer back in his day.", said Ursula in wonder.
"He was. He still has his Dragonite, as a matter of fact. He's quite powerful, but not as much as much as Lance's Dragonite.", said Ash in reply.
"Pika Pika.", said Pikachu as his stomach grumbled. He was hungry from the long trip back home.
When Ash opened the front door, they found the interior was completely abyss dark. Extremely faint sunlight was coming through the closed curtains, but it was otherwise pitch black.
"Strange, Mom said that they were going to be here today. Did they go somewhere else?", asked Ash in confusion.
"Maybe if we switch on the lights, we can find out more.", said Ursula, as she, blindly, waddled around the large room against wall, trying to find a light switch.
All a sudden, her fingers felt something against the wall. A flick switch.
"Ash, I found a switch!", exclaimed Ursula as she switched on the lights.
The moment the room came to light, Ash, Pikachu, Ursula and Manaphy were suddenly surprised by a loud shout that belonged to four familiar figures.
"SURPRISE!", shouted Gary, Professor Oak, Delia and Tracy as they jumped out from behind a sofa.
The gang were certainly taken aback by the sudden event.
"Everyone, it is so good to see you again after a while.", said Ash in delight.
"Pika Pika!", squeaked Pikachu in excitement.
"Ash, my boy, welcome back.", said Professor Oak.
"Hey there, Ashy-boy.", said Gary with a smirk.
"Hiya, Ash.", said Tracy.
"Good to see you, honey,", said Delia before looking at Ursula, "and who is this young lady standing beside you?"
"Oh, yeah. Everyone, I'd like you all to meet Ursula. She's my new friend and travelling companion.", said Ash, "Ursula, meet my mom, Professor Oak, Tracy and Gary."
"Hello, everyone. It's great to meet you at last.", said Ursula, smiling.
The group took their turns greeting Ursula. Gary acted a little flirty, but Ursula lightly rejected them. Delia acted the most friendly, because Ursula looked like she was in a small romantic relationship with Ash. Little did she know she was going to know the truth later on in the day.
"Everyone, why don't we go out to the ranch? There's food for everyone and their pokemon.", said Professor Oak.
The group went through the back door and into the ranch. There was a large table of food resting near a patio, also were many pokemon food bowls lay on the meadow.
"Wow, is this a celebration party of some kind?", asked Ash.
"Yep. Since you won your first regional Grand Festival, we thought that we should celebrate such an achievement.", said Tracy.
"Thanks everyone. This really means a lot to me.", said Ash.
"No problem, Ashy-boy.", replied Gary.
Suddenly, Ash perked up. "Oh, I had better let out all of my pokemon so they can enjoy the company as well."
"I'd better as well.", said Ursula as they opened their backpacks.
Ash quickly did some typing on his Micro-Dex and all the pokeballs opened, and the white lights materialised into his pokemon team. Even the Legendaries were out, which completely astounded Gary and Tracy. Ursula also released her pokemon as well.
"Well, everyone, we're back at Professor Oak's lab. It's good to be back again.", said Ash.
Gary was staring incomplete disbelief at the sight in from of him. Not just because Ash now had more powerful pokemon then he ever did. I was because Ash had fourteen legendary pokemon. Tracy was busy sketching them down on separate pieces of drawing paper.
"Well, Ashy-boy… I guess Gramps was telling the truth after all. You do have Legendaries on your team, not just Ho-oh and Manaphy.", said Gary.
"I'll take it that you saw the Wallace Cup competition?", asked Lugia.
"I have- HOLY ARCEUS! A legendary pokemon just spoke to me!", exclaimed Gary in utter surprise. He looked like he was going to faint from happiness.
Keldeo walked over to Ash and whispered something. "Is your friend alright?"
"Sometimes, I wonder about him. He can be a bit…eccentric.", replied Ash.
"Well, it certainly is a great opportunity to meet more close friends of Ash.", said Darkrai.
"Ash, how on earth did you catch all these legendary pokemon?", asked Tracy, not taking his eyes off them.
"These are all the legendary pokemon who I became great friends with. When they found out what happened with my former friends, they wanted to come with me on my new journey. You remember Lugia, right?", said Ash.
"Oh, yeah. Is that the same Lugia we met in the Orange Islands?", asked Tracy.
"Indeed it is I, Tracy. It is good to see you after all this time.", replied Lugia.
Gary suddenly caught sight of Sylveon. "Ash, which pokemon is this? I've never seen it before."
"That's Sylveon. It's a Fairy-type pokemon from the Kalos region. I won her at the Celadon City Pokemon Tournament some time ago.", explained Ash.
"The Kalos region, huh? Sounds like an interesting place to visit.", said Gary.
"That's why Ash and I are going there on a journey after we finish the Kanto League.", said Ursula.
"By the way, Gary, are you here to participate in the Kanto League as well?", asked Ash.
"That's right. I thought I might as give the league another try. Even I need a break from doing a lot of research in Sinnoh.", said Gary. His Umbreon suddenly ran up beside him and sat on the ground, nuzzling his leg.
"Well, how about we talk more over some food and refreshments? I've finished feeding all the pokemon.", said Professor Oak.
"Ok.", said the gang simultaneously.

Unbeknownst to them, Jessie, Kaleb and Meowth were once again spying on their target from the forest nearby. Jessie was busy typing on a computer while Kaleb was photographing Ash's pokemon. Giovanni suddenly came up on the screen, facing the trio.
"Jessie, Kaleb and Meowth, how is the mission going?", asked their brown-haired leader.
"Good, sir. We had just found out that the target is going to participate in the Kanto League in a month's time. Anyway, we thought that you would like to know what new pokemon the twerp has after some time now.", said Jessie.
"Very well, you three.", he replied.
"We'll be transferring the images via computer now, sir. Stand by.", said Kaleb as he finished typing on the laptop.
One the other side, Giovanni received the photos. He was completely astounded as this was something he was not expecting. The pokemon that Ash had caught had become stronger at a much faster pace then he had initially thought. Sure, the normal pokemon were impressive, the pseudo-legendaries were incredible, but the Legendaries are the ones that really caught his eye. He had too seen the Wallace Cup and Ho-oh's performance. He was impressed by the power displayed and wanted that power to take over the world. From all the Legendaries. But he knew better. With the current team in his possession and with the pokemon he will probably catch in the future, he was practically untouchable.
"Excellent work, you three. Is there anything else to report?", asked Giovanni.
"Yes. He said that he and his new travelling companion are going to a new region called Kalos afterwards.", said Meowth.
"Good. Return back to Team Rocket Headquarters. We'll discuss plans there until he leaves for Kalos.", said Giovanni before the screen went black.

During the celebration, while the humans and some of the pokemon were together, Zekrom had decided to have a talk with Pikachu.
"Pikachu, you are aware that you can use my signature electrical moves?", he asked.
"Yes. Will I be able to start learning them soon?", said Pikachu.
"You will, but if you are to successfully learn them without and trouble, you are going to have to put as much work into it as you possibly can. Do you think you can do that?", asked Zekrom.
"Yes, I can.", replied Pikachu with enthusiasm.
"Good for you, Pikachu. Maybe the next time Team Rocket come for you, maybe they'll think twice about the next times.", said Latias.
Meanwhile, Ursula was thinking about something on her mind. She wanted to tell someone how she felt for Ash ever since she reunited with him, but she was to embarrassed to tell anyone anything, even now. It was too early for her.
Then she realised there was someone who she can talk to. Her parents and Ash's mother. They would definitely understand her feelings for the trainer. She just had to find the right time.
"Excuse me everyone, I just I'll be back in a second. I need to make a quick phone call.", said Ursula as she dashed into the laboratory.
"Ok.", said the others.
Delia, however, got a little bit suspicious about her actions and kind of knew where this was all going. She slowly began to follow Ursula when she disappeared.
Inside, Ursula had just finished typing the number for her house back in Sinnoh. I rang for a few seconds until the monitor came to life and it showed two people.
The first one was a light skinned woman who was in her early thirties. She had emerald eyes, maroon hair, light red lipstick on the lips, a clean face, wearing two diamond earrings and a smile on her mouth. She was also wearing a blue indoors dress with a white apron. There was a ruby encrusted ring on her left ring finger. This was Ursula's mother, Lola.
The second face was a man who was in his mid-thirties. He had a completely shaved face, turquoise eyes and brown hair. He was wearing his regular Battle Palace attire that consisted of brown combat boots, blue jeans, a black button-up shirt and an open jacket. He was wearing a sapphire studded ring on his right ring finger. This was Ursula's father, William.
"Hello?", said Lola.
"Hi there, Mom and Dad.", said Ursula with excitement.
"Hello, dear.", said Lola quickly with the same amount of excitement.
"Ursula, honey, how's my little girl doing in Kanto?", said William.
"I'm doing great, Mom and Dad. How's everything back home?", asked Ursula.
"Everything is fine, sweetie. I've been having fun teaching at the nursery school and your father has been getting lots of challengers at his Battle Palace. We saw you on TV at the Kanto Grand Festival and we're very proud of you for making it so far.", said Lola.
"Thanks, but I guess I owe everything to Ash.", said Ursula nervously.
"Ash? Ash Ketchum? The boy who had a Ho-oh and the winner of the Wallace Cup and Kanto Grand Festival?", asked William, raising an eyebrow.
"Yes, he's my new travelling companion and he's a great teacher when it comes to battling.", said Ursula.
"Oh, is he? Has he been treating you well and keeping you safe from harm?", asked William like he was confronting Ash.
"Of course he has, Dad. He's my new best friend as well. He teaches me how I can make my pokemon stronger at contests and battles, while I tell him advice on co-ordinating. He even taught me some combo moves. We have been together since we met in Viridian City.", said Ursula reassuringly.
"That's great to hear, honey. It's good to hear you've made such a promising friend. Where are you calling from?", asked Lola.
"I'm calling from Professor Oak's lab in Pallet Town. This is where Ash was raised and where he began his journey.", replied Ursula.
"Ok. So when are you coming back home?", asked William.
"Actually, I'm going to participate in the Kanto League in a month's time.", said Ursula.
"The Kanto League? Why the new decision, Ursula? I thought you wanted to be a co-ordinator.", said Lolo in confusion.
"I do, but I want to win as many leagues as possible to make my pokemon stronger. Ash and I are both co-ordinators and trainers, so we help each other and have the same goals. After the Kanto League finishes, I'm going to a region called Kalos to participate in its league and Grand Festival with Ash.", explained Ursula.
"Good for you, honey.", said William.
"Mom, Dad, there is also one other thing I want to talk to you about.", said Ursula.
"What is it, sweetie? You can tell us.", said Lola.
"During the time I had travelled with Ash, I had started to develop feelings for him. Mainly because he's smart, determined and hard-working. At this point, I have come to a point where I like like him.", said Ursula.
Unknown to her, Delia was listening to every word at the door. She was really happy that a girl actually loved her son at such an age and in such a short time.
"Honey, that's wonderful news. Ash sounds like a really remarkable boy, so I think you two would be great together. And I'm sure he feels the same way", said Lola.
"I know. But I don't know if he feels the same way.", said Ursula.
"Honey, while you were travelling with him, did you ever see him blush when you two talked together, talk nervously or stutter?", asked William.
"Well, that has happened a lot of times during our journey, but what does that have to do with anything?", said Ursula.
"It means that he likes you as well, but he's too scared to admit it. I felt the same way about a year after I met your mother. I didn't have the courage to admit that I liked her.", said William.
"Well, you did eventually, and because of your confession, we are a happy family now.", said Lola as she kissed William.
"So, you see, sweetie, Ash does feel the same way, but is too nervous.", said William.
"Thank you, Mom and Dad. I really appreciate your help and I hope that he says it before I do.", said Ursula
"I'm sure he will, sweetheart.", said Lola.
"Well, I guess I had better get going. I call you back another time.", said Ursula.
"Ok, Ursula.", said her parents as the screen went black.
As Ursula switched off the phone from her end, she heard a voice behind her.
"So you love Ash, Ursula?", said Delia.
Ursula quickly turned around in shock and surprise. "Mrs Ketchum, how much did you hear from the conversation?"
"Just enough to know that a girl actually really likes my son.", said Delia with a giggle.
Ursula was really embarrassed with red all over her face. She couldn't believe that she admitted to liking Ash and she didn't know Delia was behind her the whole time.
"You're not angry with me?", asked Ursula.
"Of course not. This is the first time I ever heard a girl confess how she feels about Ash.", replied Delia.
"But do you think he feels the same way?", asked Ursula.
"Well, he used to be a bit dense about love, but he's beginning to notice it. When he told me about you, he was blushing and stuttering.", explained Delia.
Ursula suddenly smiled strongly. "I guess that means that he does like me."
"I'm sure he does. He just needs a little advice.", said Delia.
The girls then walked back outside to the ranches. Gary and Ash were busy talking to each other about the Kanto League while Tracy was showing Professor Oak one of his newest sketches.
"Say, Gary, are you going to stay here to train for the Kanto League? We still got a month to go.", said Ash.
"Yep. Matter of fact, why don't we be training partners? Ursula can join in too. We can train as a group and teach each other now things.", said Gary.
"That is a great idea.", said Ash.
Ursula ran up to the duo. "Hey, guys. What did I miss out on?"
"Nothing, Ursula. We have been talking about training together here until the Kanto League begins. Do you want to train with us?", asked Ash.
"That would be great, Ash. But where will I stay until the league starts?", asked Ursula.
"You can stay at my house. We always have room for one more.", replied Ash.
"Thank you, Ash.", said Ursula with delight.
"Great, I just need to check with mom.", said Ash as he ran to his mother.
"Mom, do you think that Ursula can stay with us until the Kanto League starts?", asked Ash.
"Of course she can, Ash. She can stay as long as she needs. Just as long as she can sleep in your room. It's only polite.", said Delia with a grin.
Ash sighed in defeat, knowing his mom was right. "Ok, I can just sleep downstairs on the sofa."
"That's showing some manners. You really are growing up.", said Delia proudly.
"Also, Mom, can we talk in private? There's something important I want to tell you.", said Ash.
"Of course, Ash. Lets go to the river stream.", said Delia.
Ash and Delia, mother and son, walked a little towards the river. When they arrived, there were some pokemon playing in the water. They noticed the humans, but soon went back to playing together.
"So, Ash, what is it that you want to talk to me about?", asked Delia.
"Mom, I think I like like Ursula.", said Ash with a bit of nervousness in his voice.
"Oh, Ashy, you have no idea how long I've waited to hear you say that you like a girl more than a friend. I'm really proud of you.", said Delia with happiness.
"Thank you for your support, Mom. But I'm worried that she might not like me back the same way.", said Ash, worriedly.
"Ash, you won't know that if you don't tell her how you feel.", said Delia.
"I guess so, but how do I tell her?", said Ash.
"I have an idea. When you are two months into your journey in Kalos, why don't you tell her? It seems like an appropriate time and it would be good in a new region.", said Delia.
"Great idea, Mom. I do that. Thanks for the advice.", said Ash.
"You're welcome.", said Delia.
They then returned to the celebration with the other pokemon and people. For the rest of the day, the gang talked, ate, and even had a few pokemon battles before calling it a day.

For the following month, there has been much activity going on at Professor Oak's ranch.
The team of Ash, Ursula and Gary had been training excessively hard for the upcoming league.
For Ash, this was a chance for him to redeem himself at the battlefield of the Indigo Plateau once more after what happened the last time he battled in the league. When Charizard had disobeyed him at the battle against Ritchie. But this time, Charizard had been training with Giratina in Viridian Forest to make sure that he is not just ready, but to make up for what he did all those years ago. And this time, he was going to listen and win.
Ursula knew this as an opportunity to make her pokemon even stronger for any future battles or contests. She even announced that she was going to try and win all the regional leagues, not just the Kanto League.
Another thing that the gang had discovered about the bigger legendary pokemon was that they had the unique ability to make themselves look like humans in disguise, just like Latias. Jirachi, Manaphy, Victini, Azelf, Shaymin, Meloetta and Keldeo can change too, but they stayed in their original forms.
Ho-oh usually took the shape of a young woman with light orange hair in her early twenties and wears a short skirt that has rainbow glitter on it, white sneakers, and an orange shirt. Lugia has form of a man with light blue hair in his thirties. He wears white and blue trousers with a matching coloured shirt and black shoes. Latias stayed in her original impersonation of Bianca. Darkrai took the shape of a dark skinned man with black hair, black jeans, a white shirt with a red handkerchief tied around his neck and black sneakers. Giratina took in the shape of a middle-aged man with brownish blonde hair. He wears a black long-sleeved shirt, a golden necklace, red pants and grey boots. Zekrom has the looks of a adult man who has black hair and wears black clothing and yellow shoes. Kyuurem has the shape of an old, yet muscular, man with grey hair. He wears a white shirt with a light grey coat, blue jeans and grey runners.
Whilst training, Ash had also been taking a lot more lessons with Lucario with aura training.
Xxxxx Flashback start
Ash and Lucario were on the side of the lake at the waterfall in a clearing at Viridian Forest. This was where they had been reunited at the beginning of Ash's new journey. Both were sitting on the grassy plain with crossed legs, eyes closed and quiet, and meditating. They had stayed there since a few hours before sunrise and weren't moving a muscle.
Lucario had first told Ash that meditation was the first step to unlocking aura. It helps the user concentrate his energies and keep out all negative aspects from their concentration.
Suddenly, the both of them relaxed and opened their eyes.
"Ok, Ash. Since meditation time is over for today, we are going to do a special short training course. You can sense the aura of living things from a very short distance, but we are going to try to improve it.", said Lucario telepathically.
"Ok, Lucario. I'm ready.", said Ash calmly.
"Good. Lets start the session off with emptying your mind. This will help you concentrate a lot longer without distractions and by not thinking of anything. Don't think of any memories, anything emotional or anything that naturally comes to your mind.", said Lucario.
Inside his mind, Ash began the process. Everything from deep within his mind began to fade away as he let go of them. Memories such as when he first got Pikachu, when he defeated Brandon and when he was at the Tree of Beginning. They all disappeared into the empty void, until finally, there was absolutely nothing left, but an endless white void.
"I sense you have perfectly pushed everything aside. Now, let the aura flow from your soul and let it surround you. Don't let any obstacles block your path and power on through.", said Lucario.
As the invisible aura began to run from Ash's figure. It slowly began to seep beyond his placement and spread around his surroundings. It soon began to rapidly gain speed and spread deeper into the forest.
"You're doing great, Ash. Alright, tell me what you sense about the things that surround you and what other creatures you can feel in their presence through their aura.", said Lucario.
"Well, I can tell that the trees north of us have a healthy aura, but some of them are beginning to die of very old age. Some Kakuna are going to evolve any minute now along with the Metapod about south of us. A flock of Starly is coming our way and one of them is about to evolve into a Staravia and become its leader. As well as that, the flowers of a few oran berry trees are about to bloom, healthy and ready to bear fruit.", said Ash, eyes still closed and legs still crossed.
"Exceptional work, Ash. I have sensed those things as well and I can tell that you have improved greatly. In my opinion, you will have Aura Sensing training complete in just a little while longer. A month at the most. Can you tell me one more thing that you sense?", said Lucario.
Ash couldn't think of anything else, but there was one thing that he sensed and it was close. Closer than he thought.
"Lucario, I sense that you are hungry.", said Ash.
Lucario looked a bit confused, but he then found his answer when he heard the rumbling of his own stomach.
"Oops, sorry. I guess we should have gotten some berries to take with us before morning.", said Lucario in embarrassment and rubbed the smile of his head
Ash suddenly opened his eyes and stood up, as did Lucario. "That's Ok, Lucario, but we still have to remember that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and we need nutrition."
"I'll remember that. How about we head back? That's enough aura training for today.", said Lucario.
The aura duo then limbered up and jogged back home, awaiting a meal to really start them up.
Xxxxx Flashback end
Since the contest training is over until they got to Kalos, Ash and Ursula had been focusing more on battling and making their pokemon stronger.
In the process, Ash's Ivysaur evolved into Venusaur, Scyther evolved into Scizor, Vulpix evolved into Ninetales, Seadra evolved into Kingdr, Jigglypuff became Wigglytuff and Dragonair evolved into Dragonite. They all seemed happy in their new forms.
Ursula's pokemon had changed too. Squirtle became Wartortle, Goldeen became Seaking, Poliwhirl became Politoad and Sandshrew had become Sandslash.
Gary revealed that he had caught some new pokemon while he was still working as a pokemon researcher in Sinnoh. He had a new Skarmory, a Drapion and a Gastrodon. They were strong, but not as good as some of Ash's stronger pokemon.
Ash, Gary and Ursula had some battles against one another and Ash ended up winning most of them. Gary won a good amount of them as well and Ursula got the least amount of wins due to her low amounts of experience of battles. It didn't take long for her to get used to battling without having to do all any form of beauty or elegance.
While that has been happening, Zekrom, in his human form, had been teaching Pikachu how to Fusion Bolt first. It turned out to be extremely difficult to master and it takes up a lot of his energy.
Professor Oak and Gary had also been taking this month-long opportunity to do some research on some of the legendary pokemon. Tracy had also spent countless nights and hours sketching.
At the end of each day, when it was time to pack it in, the legendary pokemon were allowed to stay at the lab with Professor Oak and Tracy along with the other pokemon while Gary went back to his own home. Manaphy, Victini, and Lucario stay at Ash's house since they want to stay close to Ash and so Lucario can wake Ash up for early aura training. Ursula slept in Ash's room while Ash slept downstairs, which he didn't mind.

About three days, before the Kanto League started, Ash, Gary and Ursula flew on the backs to Charizard, Skarmory and Garchomp to the Indigo Plateau. Before they left, Ash had regathered his pokemon while Ursula and Gary gathered theirs. Professor Oak and Ash's mother wished them luck at the league. Latias, Manaphy, Victini and Meloetta had decided to stay outside of their pokeballs
When they arrived on the next night, there was a big turnout already. At least a hundred trainers had turned up with some strong pokemon. Ash thought if that there was already this many people here, who knows how many more would turn up in the next few days.
After they registered, they had met up again with one of Ash's old friends, Charlie Goodshow.

As Ash and the gang exited the Pokemon Centre, they made their way towards the Indigo Star Hotel, where they would stay for the duration of the tournament. All of a sudden, Pikachu's stomach grumbled.
"Pikachu, I guess you're hungry, huh?", said Ash with a snicker.
"Pika Pikachu.", said Pikachu in embarrassment.
"Don't worry. There's a restaurant near here that has some good selections. We can all have lunch there after we check out a room at the hotel.", said Ash, but he suddenly stopped.
"Ash, what's wrong?", asked Ursula.
"There's Mr Goodshow. He's the President of the Pokemon League Committee, and he's also a friend of mine.", said Ash as he pointed to the short person, "Hey, Mr Goodshow!"
The short, bearded man was talking to a receptionist at the reception desk. When he heard his name being called out, he suddenly turned Ash's way and smiled widely.
"Ash, my boy, it has been a long time. How are you doing?", said Mr Goodshow.
"I'm doing fairly good, sir.", said Ash.
"I must say, who is this young girl who is with you right now? I already know Gary Oak from the Kanto League and the Johto League.", said Mr Goodshow, gesturing Ursula.
"This is Ursula. She's a co-ordinator from the Sinnoh region and a new trainer in the league circuit. And she's my new friend and travel companion.", explained Ash.
"Well, Ursula, I wish you very much luck on your first league and give it your all. Speaking of co-ordinating, Ash, congratulations of the Wallace Cup and the Grand Festival. Same to you too, Ursula.", said Mr Goodshow in joy.
"Thank you, sir.", said Ash and Ursula in unison.
"Gary, it is good to see you too and I hope to see a good performance from you as well.", said Charles.
"I will sir.", said Gary.
"By the way Ash, when I saw you back at the Sinnoh League, I was completely surprised that you managed to defeat not only Tobias' Darkrai, but also his Latios. I just want to tell you that if you managed to defeat two legendary pokemon in one battle, than I have no doubt that you will win the first league you ever competed in.", said Goodshow.
"Thanks.", said Ash simply.
Mr Goodshow then said his good-byes and left to be at another place for something important.

Over the duration of the next two days, a lot more people did turn up. Not surprisingly, Max, May, Paul and Trip showed up. May was only here to support her brother and took no interest in participating, not that she actually had any badges.
When Ash and his friends met up with Paul and Trip at different times, they had their own conversations. Paul had just finished defeating Salon Maiden Anabel, the Frontier Brain of the Battle Tower. Paul said that he decided to take the Kanto League as a warming-up way to get his pokemon ready for the final battle against Brandon and his Regi Trio. He did this to be extra sure that he wouldn't lose like he did last time back in Sinnoh. Paul even congratulated Ash for his win on the Kanto Grand Festival.
Trip had also talked to them about his journey in Kanto. He admitted that the Gyms weren't actually that bad and they proved to be of a good challenge. The pokemon he had caught here were actually good enough for his team, as he said.
The gang actually crossed paths with Max and May once. Max challenged Ash to a full three-on-three battle. The end result was, well, lets just say Max lost without knowing it was coming.

At the Pokemon Centre battlefield, Max and Ash were preparing for their battle. Gary acted as the referee for the match. There was a crowd of people gathered at the two benches to watch. Ursula was with them and May was on the other bench. After Gary said the necessary details for the battle, the match soon began.
"Shelgon, lets do it!" ,said Max as she sent out his dragon pokemon.
"Shelgon!", said Shelgon
"Charizard, I choose you!", said Ash as he released his fire starter.
"RARRGH!", roared Charizard.
"Shelgon, begin with Hyper Beam!", said Max. Shelgon charged up a orange sphere of energy in front of him and fired it at his orange opponent.
"Charizard, dodge that by flying up and counter attack with Dragon Rush.", said Ash. Charizard flew up high, easily dodging the attack. Shelgon stood there, completely immobilised. Charizard was suddenly enveloped in a blue aura that took in a shaped of a blue dragon head with spread out wings. The blue dragon then opened his mouth and seemed to have eaten Shelgon, which was followed by and explosion. When the smoke cleared, Shelgon was on the ground with swirls in his eyes and Charizardwas standing, proud of his victory over a pseudo- legendary.
"Shelgon is unable to battle. Charizard is the winner. Trainer, send out your next pokemon.", said Gary.
"Shelgon, return and had a rest. Gyarados, lets go!", said Max. Shelgon was soon replaced by a large oceanic serpent that looked like Ash's, only smaller.
"Charizard, let someone else have a turn. Return.", said Ash. Charizard lets out a small growl of approval before being recalled into his pokeball.
"Servine, I choose you!" ,said Ash as he released his grass snake.
"Gyarados, use Flamethrower!", said Max. A sudden burst of flames shot out of Gyarados' mouth and headed straight at his opponent.
"Servine, counter that with Leaf Tornado.", said Ash in retaliation. Servine suddenly jumped and landed on one of her hands. She then spun her tail through the air and a tornado of leaves formed. The fire burned the leaves, but the wind extinguished the fire.
"Servine, use Agility and jump onto Gyarados' back.", said Ash. Servine suddenly took off at a tremendous speed towards Gyarados. Garados attempted to hit her with its tail, but Servine was too quick and she was soon on his back.
"Shake off that thing Gyarados!", panicked Max. Gyarados thrashed about but Servine hung on tightly.
"Servine, use Attract.", said Ash. A small shower of pink hollow hearts materialised in the air. Servine gave her trademark smile and wink before the heards floated in front of Gyarados. Unable to get out of the way, Gyarados suddenly calmed down and had hearts in his eyes.
"Gyarados, snap out of it!", yelled Max in panic and furiousness. But Gyarados was unable to hear him.
"Servine, use a point blank Solar Beam.", said Ash. Servine suddenly charged a ball of green energy in her mouth and fired it at he serpent.
Gyarados fell down in defeat with swirls in his eyes, but soon snapped out of his trance.
"Gyarados is unable to battle. Servine is the winner. Trainer, select your final pokemon.", said Gary.
Max was really starting to get really angry. He had to win this battle so that he can prove he was superior to Ash. So without hesitation, he released his next pokemon.
"Altaria, go get'em.", said Max. A large bird-like creature with cloud wings suddenly materialised from its sphere.
"Sylveon, I choose you!", said Ash as he threw his own pokeball. The energy that just released materialised into the pink Eeveelution, Sylveon.
"Sylveon.", said Sylveon sweetly and calmly.
Some of the crowd began to admire Sylveon. There was just something that made it look like the most beautiful pokemon. May also was admiring it, but only for a brief moment.
"Altaria, use Dragon Breath on that pokemon. End it.", said Max in anger. Altaria sent a blast of clear white energy at Sylveon. When it contacted, an enormous explosion occurred, making everyone shield their eyes.
When the resulting smoke cleared, nobody, except Ursula, could believe what they are seeing. Sylveon was still standing where she was, completely unharmed and unfazed.
"WHAT THE-!?", screamed out Max, "How is this possible? That should have finished that pokemon off. What gives?"
"Sylveon is a fairy-type pokemon that is from the Kalos region. The reason why it wasn't affected by Dragon Breath was because fairy-type pokemon are immune to dragon-type attacks.", said Ash with a grin.
"What?! You have got to be kidding me.", said Max.
"But now it's my turn. Sylveon, use Hyper beam.", said Ash. While Sylveon was preparing the Hyper Beam, it was in a pink colour instead of its usual orange. The attack fired and hit Altaria. Altaria suddenly dropped out of the sky with a soft landing with its soft wings, clearly knocked out.
"Altaria is unable to battle. Sylveon wins. And the victor of this battle is Ash of Pallet Town.", said Gary. Max was still in shock as he returned Altaria.
"What the heck was that with the Hyper Beam?! Why was it pink instead of orange!? Tell me right now, Ash!", shouted Max.
"First of all, stop your yelling. You are embarrassing yourself. As for your question, Sylveon has a hidden ability called Pixilate. It allows any normal-type moves to become fairy-type moves. So the Hyper Beam that hit Altaria was actually a fairy-type move.", said Ash.
"You just got lucky at this battle, but I'm going to absolutely humiliate you at the league. Just you wait, Ash.", said Max in a deep grumble as he left the battlefield with May.

When it was officially time for the Kanto League to begin, the usual Torch Ceremony had been held. Trainers of all ages and from all regions had showed up at the stadium for Mr Goodshow's official announcement. The traditional lighting of the torch was performed when a runner had jogged on a huge flight of stairs towards a gigantic metal bowl. There they would light the Flame of Moltres and that would signify the commencing of the Kanto League.
That night, Ash had decided to explain the rules of this particular league to Ursula. There were four smaller stadiums around the original stadium and those counted as when battling during the preliminary battles. When you beat all four, you can proceed to compete in the main tournament. Only sixty-four can proceed.
During the main tournament, you can use up to three pokemon in all battles. But during Top 8 battles and above, you have to use six pokemon.
The next day, on the beginning of the preliminary battles. Ash and Ursula had got their first battles. Ash was going up against Trip at the water stadium while Ursula went against a trainer named the rock stadium. Gary had his battle in the grass stadium with a trainer named Louis.
Xxxxx Flashback Start
"The preliminary battle between Trip of Nuvema Town and Ash of Pallet Town is about to begin. Both trainers are allowed to user three pokemon each and substitutions are allowed. The first person to be eliminated from the tournament is the one whose three pokemon are unable to continue. Trainers, select your first pokemon and begin the match.", called out the referee.
"Serperior, lets go!", said Trip as he called out his grass snake pokemon.
"And Trip chooses to go with his Serperior for the first battle. What will Ash's pokemon be?", said the commentator.
"I think it's time to bring back an old classic to this game, right Pikachu?", said Ash.
"Pika Pi.", replied Pikachu.
"Kingler, I choose you!", shouted Ash as he released his Pincer pokemon.
"Kuugi Kugi!", said Kingler.
"And it looks like Ash has decided to go with his mighty Kingler. And if I remember correctly, that Kingler won three battles in a row the last time he was at the Kanto League without losing during the preliminaries. Can Kingler do it again or will he meet his match with Serperior", said the commentator.
At this, Trip was surprised. He thought that Ash was legitimately going to use Kingler to damage, but not defeat Serperior, but it looked like this Kingler has a rich history and was no pushover.
"Serperior, start off with Leaf Storm.", said Trip as the snake sent a barrage of glowing leaves at his opponent in a hurry.
"Kingler, counter it with Blizzard. Then fire an Ice Beam at Serperior's body.", said Ash in response.
When Kingler opened his large pincer, a blizzard of snow rushed out and met the Leaf Storm dead on. Both moves seemed to either cut through the snow or the cold froze the leaves, making them drop into the water. A small amount of each attack hit their target. Both pokemon winced in small pain, but soon recovered. Kingler then fired a blue beam of icy energy from the same claw and it hit Serperior's slender body, freezing it in place.
"Now use Crabhammer!", said Ash. Kingler jumped from his platform and leaped at Serperior with his giant pincer glowing blue.
"Serperior, break out of there and use Wrap on him.", said Trip. Serperior suddenly broke out of its icy prison and dodged the incoming pincer. He then wrapped his body around kingler and began to squeeze tight. Kingler was starting to feel pain, but he stayed strong.
"Now fire a Solar Beam.", said Trip. Serperior readied a green orb in his mouth.
"Kingler, use Guillotine.", said Ash.
Kingler's pincer suddenly glowed white and then pinched down. Serperior roared in pain as Kingler flung him into the water. Serperior then resurfaced with swirls in his eyes.
"Serperior is unable to battle. Kingler is the winner. Red Trainer, send out your next pokemon.", said the referee.
"Serperior, return. Conkeldurr, your next.", said Trip as he returned Serperior and released his elder-looking fighting type.
"Kingler, are you still fine to continue?", asked Ash to his crab. Kingler nodded.
"Battle begin!", said the referee.
"Conkeldurr, use Brick Break.", said Trip. Conkeldurr let go of his two concrete pillars and ran towards Kingler as fast as his old legs can carry him with his hand glowing white.
As Conkeldurr closed in on Kingler and was about to land a first hit, Ash said out a command at the last second. "Kingler, counter that with Crabhammer. Then dive into the water."
Kingler raised his glowing pincer and collided it with the glowing hand. Both attacks sent out a small pulse of wind through the field and Conkeldurr soon landed back on his floating platform, grabbing his two concrete canes. Kingler dived into the water and soon was out of anyone's sight.
"Where'd he go? Stay sharp, Conkeldurr, he could pop out anywhere.", said Trip with a bit of panic in his voice. Conkeldurr countinuously kept on darting his eyes from one spot to another.
"Kingler, come up from below and use Crabhammer on Conkeldurr's platform.", said Ash.
All of a sudden, the platform that Conkeldurr was standing on has hurtled into the air a few feet by a large glowing pincer from beneath. Conkeldurr landed into the water. Even though his pillars were heavy, he paddled his feet to remain afloat.
"Conkeldurr, try to swim to the nearest platform for safety.", said Trip.
"Kingler, dive into the water once more and end this with an uppercut Crabhammer from below Conkeldurr.", said Ash.
Cinkeldurr swam for Kingler's platform, but his attempts were futile as he was too slow. Kingler was under water and quickly resurfaced at Conkeldurr's position. He bashed his glowing blue pincer against Conkeldurr's jaw, making him fly out of the water and landing on his platform. He was laying there with spirals in his eyes.
"Conkeldurr is unable to battle. Kingler wins. Red Trainer, send out your final pokemon.", called out the referee.
"Folks, it looks like Kingler is still standing and not about to give in anytime soon like last time. Lets see what pokemon Trip has left for us to see.", said the commentator.
"Magneton, battle time." ,said Trip as he released his own Magnet pokemon.
"And it looks like Kingler is up against his final foe, Magneton. Magneton may have an advantage, but it seems like Kingler is stronger.", said the commentator.
"Magneton, use Thunderbolt.", said Trip. A sudden surge of yellow electricity escaped from Magneton and headed straight for Kingler.
"Kingler, counter that with Water Gun.", said Ash. Kingler fired a torrent of water from his mouth at the Thunderbolt. The two attacks exploded on impact.
"Alright then. Magneton, charge in with a Giga Impact.", said Trip. Magneton soon became coated with a purple veil and took off towards Kingler at a fast-pace speed.
"Kingler, when Magneton gets close, quickly grab him with Vice Grip.", said Ash.
KIngler waited for his opponent to get close enough. Trip made out a smirk but that was soon cut short, when Kingler grabbed him with his larger pinced and gripped down hard.
"Now finish him off with a Hyper Beam at point blank range, Kingler.", said Ash.
"Get out of there, Magneton. Try to break free.", said Trip.
But Magneton's escape attempts were futile. The orange orb that was powering up within Kingler's pincer fired, blasting Magneton out of his pincer and sent him flying into the water. He re-emerged with swirls in his three eyes.
"Magneton is unable to battle. That means Kingler is the winner and the victor of this preliminary battle is Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town.", called out the referee.
"And there you have it folks. Kingler has once again proven his water type superiority by winning three full battles. Even at some great disadvantages, he manage to pull through and keep his title.", said the commentator.
"The crowd began to cheer for the winning duo, still amazed that Kingler still won another three battles.
"Kingler, great job. I'm proud of you!", said Ash as he jumped on Kingler's platform and embraced him in a hug.
"Kuggi Kuu.", said Kingler in joy as he wrapped his pincer against his trainer.
After Ash returned Kingler, he walked around the battlefield and met up with Trip.
"Well, Ketchum, it looks like you have emerged victorious once more, only this time you did better, something which I have to admit.", said Trip as he shook hands with his rival
"You battled well too, Trip.", said Ash.
The two exited the stadium and made their way towards the Pokemon Centre.
"Nurse Joy, could you heal my pokemon?", said Ash.
"Could you heal mine too?", said Trip.
"Of course, boys. That's what I'm here for.", replied Nurse Joy in a friendly tone.

After Trip collected his pokemon a little while later, he left to go compete in the Johto League. But not before saying good-bye to Ash, Gary and Ursula.
Ursula and Gary had both won their battles. Gary had tried out his new pokemon and Skarmory won most of the battles until he was knocked out by Louis' Chandelure and Gastrodon had to win the last battle. Ursula did surprisingly well, because she used Garchomp the whole time and defeated a Magnemite, Vigoroth and Shedinja.

It was now the night of the last day of the preliminaries. Ash, Ursula and Gary had managed to stay in the competition and win all their preliminary battles. Ursula faced some close calls since she was new to the competition, but she managed to keep it together. Gary had a few difficulties because of his extended retirement from battling. He still won his , still having trained so hard for this event, had won all of his battles, but had a couple of losses. In his third battle in the rock field, his Snorlax had lost to a Golurk, and in his fourth battle at the grass field, Butterfree lost to a Mandibuzz.
Max didn't face any of the three trainers. He won his battles only at the last minute because he had saved his powerhouses for the last and they had just managed to pull through with victory.
The remaining trainers were all out in the field of the main stadium. Ash, Ursula, Paul, Max and Gary were among all other trainers who managed to win and exceed to the main tournament. On top of a stage, stood Mr Goodshow; the owner of the Battle Frontier, Scott; and the Champion of Kanto and Johto, Lance. Mr Goodshow began his speech for the crowd.
"Well, everyone, this is it. During these last four days, we have had trainers battle from all over the world at he Kanto League Preliminaries, but only sixty-four trainers remain in this competition and have advanced to the main tournament. These trainers have proved their strength and have done the best they can,", said Mr Goodshow, "Now, before you all head off to rest up for the night, Champion Lance has an announcement to make and we will be seeing the match-ups for tomorrow's battles. Everyone, lets all welcome Kanto's Champion, Lance!"
Everyone gave out a loud cheer as Lance made his way to the microphone. He then spoke into it with a clear and proud voice.
"Everyone, it is a great honour to be here. I just want to say that I'm especially proud of all the trainers who have made it this far in the competition and I wish to see spectacular battles tomorrow. Now, lets see what match-ups we have for tomorrow on the screen and who we will see battle in the first match of the day.", said Lance.
The pictures of all the trainers that were shown on the screen suddenly began to shuffle in a random order for a few seconds until they all stopped. Every picture card all had their own opposing twin. The cards then flipped over to reveal the match-ups. Ash was going up against Max, Gary was up against Paul and Ursula was going against an unknown trainer. Max locked eyes with Ash's in a deadly glare, Paul looked at Gary for a brief moment before looking away.
"Well, everyone, our matches have been made. Now the computer will determine the first battle for the day tomorrow.", said Lance.
The matches on the computer went all dark and were, once again, shuffled. They then stopped and one pair was pulled out. When the picture became visible, it showed Max's and Ash's faces.
"And it looks like the first battle will be between Ash Ketchum of Pallet Town and max Maple of Petalburg City. I wish luck to these young trainers and hope to see the best. Everyone, you are all now free to go and rest up for the night. We have a big day of battles tomorrow.", said Lance.
As everyone in the stands and the trainers left to be in their resting places, Ash stopped for a brief moment and looked behind him. Lance met eye contact with him. Lance gave Ash a smile and a wink of luck.
"Good luck to you especially, Ash.", Lance said to himself silently, before the two went their separate ways.

Well, everyone, sorry for the late update. I'm going to Italy for an Italian class trip for the next two weeks, so I wont be updating for a while. Also, based from the reviews, Max, May, Misty, dawn and Iris will not be finding out about Jirachi, Manaphy, Blaziken, Glaceon, Golduck, Shaymin, Lopunny and Haxorus until the Grand league of champion legends. Also there will be no Serena as she is replaced with Ursula, but there will still be clement and bonnie. The Kalos Journeys will mention some events that happened in the episodes, but with my own twists and no team rocket trying to catch Pikachu. But don't worry. When I post the kanto Journeys part three and the kalos journeys part 1, you all might get a very big surprise.
