Chapter 10: The Kanto Journeys Part 3

Ash was laying in his own bed in the hotel room. Ursula was sleeping silently with Manaphy in the opposite bed, all snuggled up. Pikachu was sleeping at the foot of his bed. But Ash couldn't sleep, because of his battle with Max tomorrow.

He had been thinking of which pokemon he should use for the match. All of his pokemon wanted to battle him to get payback, but Ash was having trouble. He though that he should set three of his strongest, but then he remembered something.

He remembered, Primeape, Pupitar and Lapras. Ever since they had come back, he hadn't actually used them in any official battles yet.

'Yeah, I think I'll use those three tomorrow. I haven't used those three yet and it would be good to see how strong they have become over the years.', thought Ash to himself.

It wasn't long before he fell asleep, eager for the next match tomorrow to start.

Xxxxx

The sun was shining over the top of the sky with a brilliant golden glow radiating from it. The Indigo Plateau was bustling with activity, hundreds wanting to see today's battles.

The gang were already at the main stadium, awaiting for the commencement of Ash's and Max's battle. People were crowded in the seats of the stadium waiting looks.

Ursula and Gary were seated together at the stands. Ho-oh, Keldeo, Meloetta and Manaphy, in their human forms, were sitting with them. Meloetta was in the disguise of an eight-year-old girl with a white shirt, black skirt, yellow sneakers and green hair. Manaphy looked of an eight-year-old boy with a blue baseball cap, blue shirt, grey shorts and purple shoes. Keldeo looked like a fourteen year old boy with mostly blue hair with some streaks of red, a cream coloured shirt under a sky blue hoodie, brown jeans and green sandals.

"I've never seen Ash battle before, but he looks ready for anything.", said Keldeo.

"I hope Papa wins today. Do you think he will, Mama?", asked Manaphy while eating a cold ice-cream.

"Without a doubt sweetie. Besides, Max has been a trainer for no more than a few months while Ash has been one for five years.", said Ursula.

Suddenly, the loud voice of a commentator came to life. "Good morning folks and welcome to the first battle of the day. We have lots of exciting battles to see today, so lets get this match underway. Will the two trainers come forward to their trainer boxes?"

Ash and Max walked from their locker rooms and out into the open. As soon as they stepped into their trainer boxes, Max muttered something to himself and smirked at Ash.

The referee began to speak while holding two differently coloured flags. "This match between Ash of Pallet Town and Max of Petalburg City is about to begin. Each trainer can only use three pokemon and substitutions are allowed. The first trainer to defeat their opponent's three pokemon will advance into the next round. Trainers, select your first pokemon and begin the first battle."

"Mightyena, I need you.", said Max as he threw his first pokeball and it released the Bite Pokemon.

"Raarggh!", barked out Mightyena, waiting for its opponent.

"Pupitar, I choose you!", said Ash as he released his hard shell pokemon.

Pupitar!", shouted Pupitar as he looked at his opponent.

"Mightyena, start off with a Dark Pulse attack.", said Max. Mightyena suddenly formed an orb of dark energy in his mouth and a beam shout out straight to its target.

"Pupitar, defend yourself with Protect and then use a Brick Break.", said Ash.

A green dome covered Pupitar, shielding him from the attack. When it disappeared, He charged in with glowing head spikes and collided them against Mightyena's head. The impact caused the pokemon to skid back a few meters, but still standing.

"Mightyena, go in with a Rock Smash and then give him an Iron Tail!", shouted Max angrily.

Mighyena suddenly charged towards Pupitar with the tail glowing white and collided it against his head. The pokemon winced in pain, but stood his ground. The dog suddenly charged with a metallic tail.

"Pupitar, dodge that Iron tail and follow it up with Iron Head.", said Ash.

Pupitar quickly floated to the left to avoid the attack and then charged up to Mightyena with the top of his head in a metal shine. When they both collided, the blow sent Mighyena flying backwards and fell on the ground, out cold.

"Mightyena is unable to battle. Pupitar wins. Red Trainer, select your next pokemon.", said the referee.

"Thanks, Mightyena. Return. Breloom, you're up.", said Max as he released his mushroom pokemon.

"Breloom.", said Breloom while wagging its tail.

"Great job, Pupitar, return. Lapras, I choose you.", said Ash as he returned Pupitar to his pokeball and released Lapras to the field.

"What!?" You do realise that Lapras is at a double disadvantage. Do you want to lose?", said Max in a mocking voice.

"Lapras, use Future Sight and then use Ice Beam.", said Ash. Lapras' eyes suddenly glowed pink for a moment before they returned to normal and a shot of icy energy flowed out of Lapras' mouth, freezing Breloom's feet.

"Breloom, use Brick Break on your feet and then charge in with a Giga Impact.", said Max.

Breloom's claw glowed white as he broke the ice at his feet, setting him free. He then was coated in a purple aura with some white streaks and then charged at Lapras.

"Lapras, use your own Giga Impact, but use Ice beam as well on the ground in front of you for you to gain some speed.", said Ash.

Lapras was coated in the same aura, but she also released another Ice Beam upon the ground, freezing it solid and forming a path of ice. She then began to slide on it, picking up speed as she blasted towards Breloom.

When the two pokemon made contact, an explosion of smoke occurred that covered the entire field, making it impossible for the audience to see the outcome. As the smoke cleared, both pokemon were still up, panting and looking tired.

"That's it. Time to finish this. Breloom, use Focus-", said Max, but he was soon cut off when a dark pink beam shot from above Breloom, hitting him and making another explosion occur. This time, when it cleared, Breloom was out cold.

"Breloom is unable to battle. Lapras wins. Red Trainer, send out your final pokemon.", said the referee.

"What just happened?", said Max in confusion.

"Future Sight happened.", replied Ash, making Max growl in anger.

Xxxxx

"Well done, Ash!", called Ho-oh from the stands.

"Go, Ash!", said Manaphy. He said his real name not to attract any attention from anyone if he called him 'Papa', not to mention that May wasn't too far away.

"Win this, pal!", said Keldeo.

xxxxx

Max took a look at his last pokeball before throwing it. "Slacking, win this.", said Max as he threw his pokeball and the gigantic ape pokemon came out.

"Kiiiing.", yawned Slaking.

"Primeape, I choose you.", shouted Ash as he threw his own pokemon and came out the pig monkey pokemon.

"Primeape Priiii.", screeched out Primeape as he faced his opponent.

"And for the this battle, Max has decided to use his powerful Slaking against Ash P1 Champion, Primeape. This is certainly going to be a very tough match.", said the commentator.

"Battle begin!", called out the referee.

"Slaking, start this off with Thunder Punch. Aim for Primeape's face.", commandeered Max. Slaking suddenly got off the ground and charged at Primeape with an electrified fist.

"Primeape, use Rain Dance.", said Ash.

Primeape's eyes glowed blue for a moment before a large dark cloud floated above them and rain started to pour upon the battlefield, making some mud with the dirt. Slaking accidentally fell backwards on his back from slipping in the mud. The Thunder Punch was also cancelled out.

"Slacking, quickly get up and use Sunny Day.", said Max. Slaking started to form a small glowing orb in his hands.

"Primeape, quickly use the mud to skid underneath Slaking and then use Dual Chop from behind.", said Ash quickly.

Primeape began running in the mud before he began to slide on it, giving him passage between Slaking's legs; but because of his lazy and slow nature, Slaking was too slow to stop it. Primeape then jumped up and hit Slaking's back with two fists with purple aura coming off them in an 'x' shape. This caused Slaking some pain but managed to get up.

"Slaking, use Hammer Arm.", said Max as Slaking lunged for Primeape with a glowing arm.

"Primeape, throw some mud in his face and then use Seismic Toss.", said Ash.

Quickly grabbing some mud off the ground, Primeape threw it in Slaking's face, causing him to miss. Primeape then grabbed his opponent's sides, crouched down and then jumped high into the air. Then he let go of Slaking and hit his head with Mega Kick, which made Slaking unconscious and crash to the ground, out cold.

"Slaking is unable to battle. Primeape is the winner. This match goes to Ash of Pallet Town and he will be advancing into the next round.", said the referee.

The crowd cheered in applause for the Pallet Town trainer. Ursula, Manaphy, Ho-oh and Keldeo were all clapping for him and cheering out words of congratulations. Max's supporters and May, however, looked down in disappointment.

When the group reunited, they headed for the Pokemon Centre to get Ash's pokemon healed.

"Papa, that was a great battle. I'm so happy you won.", said Manaphy as he jumped into Ash's arms.

"Pika.", said Pikachu in agreement.

"Thanks, guys.", said Ash.

After arriving to the Centre and giving Ash's pokemon to Nurse Joy, the gang decided to have some food since they were hungry. They had a light meal at one of the restaurants while watching the next battle occurring, which was between Paul and a trainer named Sonya. As anyone would ever expect, Paul was dominating the battle and had already knocked out her Golurk with his Weavile and it was now a battle between his Aggron and her Gurdurr.

"Wow, Paul is really strong. No wonder he's a very powerful trainer.", said Ursula.

"Yeah, I think this battle will only be for a few more minutes before this entire battle is over. No doubt.", replied Ash.

His words didn't lie. After about five minutes, Paul had won the match after he defeated Sonya when his Electivire surprisingly defeated her Swampert.

"Swampert is unable to battle. Electivire wins. The winner is Paul of Veilstone City and he will be advancing into the next round.", said the referee.

The gang later left to get the pokemon that were at the Pokemon Centre. But as they entered the doors, they once again crossed paths with Max and May.

Both sides gave each other menacing death glares, especially Manaphy who looking at May, but May didn't recognise him since he was in a human form. Finally, Max and May left.

'Strange, I didn't see him use that Ralts that he would have caught by now.', thought Ash.

Later on that day, Ursula had won her battle as well as Gary had won his battle. The three trainers were advancing into the Top Thirty-Two.

Xxxxx

"The battle between Ursula of Sandgem Town and Gary of Pallet Town is about to begin. Each trainer is allowed to use up to three pokemon and substitutions are allowed. The trainer who defeats all of their opponent's pokemon first will advance into the Top Sixteen. Trainers, select your first pokemon and begin.", said the referee.

It was day two of the main tournament. When the match-ups had been announced for the day, Ursula was shocked that she had to battle…against Gary. But before they could have their battle, Ash had given her some tips on how to deal with him. It was very likely that he was going to use his Blastoise since it was his starter, one of his newer pokemon and one that he caught in either Kanto or Johto.

"Drapion, let's go.", called out Gary as he summoned his scorpion pokemon.

"Drraaaaap!", roared out Drapion.

"Garchomp, battle ready.", said Ursula as she released her mach pokemon.

"Gaaarr.", roared Garchomp.

"Garchomp, start off with Stone Edge.", said Ursula, said Ursula. Sharpstones circled around Garchomp before she launched them at Drapion.

"Drapion, counter that with a Hyper Beam.", said Gary. Drapion soon launched a beam of orange energy from his mouth, which destroyed the stones and managed to hit Garchomp square on the chest. This made her stumble back a bit until she regained her footing.

"Garchomp, use Earthquake before he recharges.", said Ursula. Garchomp slammed her foot into the ground, causing a powerful tremor.

"Drapion, plant our feet into the ground and try to stay stable.", shouted out Gary. But those words proved useless as Drapion was having trouble staying upright while taking super effective damage.

"Garchomp, now finish this off with Brick Break.", said Ursula.

Garchomp was suddenly seen flying from the sky with a glowing claw. A claw which struck the weakened Drapion in the chest and making him fall unconscious.

"Drapion is unable to battle. Garchomp is the winner. Trainer, select your next pokemon.", said the referee as he waved his flag.

"Drapion, return. You did great. Blastoise, I need you.", said Gary as he released his famed water starter pokemon.

"Blastoise!", shouted out Blastoise.

Ursula thought, 'Water-type pokemon aren't very effective against dragon-types, but since Garchomp is also a ground-type, this should get a little interesting on what would happen as a result.'

"Garchomp, start off with Draco Meteor.", said Ursula.

Garchomp kneeled down on one leg while an orange energy formed at her torso. That energy soon came up to her mouth and launched it into the air. That sphere then exploded into much smaller balls and rained down upon Blastoise.

"Blastoise, use Withdraw and then use Rapid Spin right on the spot.", said Gary.

Blastoise's cannons suddenly withdrew to his shell along with his limbs and head. His body then began to spin and when the meteorites hit, the defensive move minimised damage and the spinning action seemed to minimise the damage even more. As the last of the meteors disappeared, Blastoise came out of his giant shell. Garchomp was looking tired.

"Blastoise, use Hydro Cannon.", called out Gary.

Garchomp, try to dodge that attack.", said Ursula.

But Garchomp was too slow because of the Draco Meteor. Two large sheres of water energy flew out of Blastoise's cannons and collided with Garchomp. Garchomp tried to stand upright, but collapsed on the ground from exhaustion.

"Garchomp is unable to battle. Blastoise is the winner. Trainer, select your next pokemon.

"Blastoise, return for now. Umbreon, let's do this.", said Gary as he brought out his dark-type Eeveelution.

"Umbre Umbreon!", said Umbreon.

"Butterfree, battle ready.", said Ursula as she released her new butterfly pokemon.

"Trainers, battle begin!", said the referee.

"Butterfree, fire a Signal Beam.", said Ursula.

Umbreon Dodge that and use Iron Tail! Then follow it up with a Hyper Beam.", said Gary.

A beam of bug power blasted from a sphere in between Butterfree's antennae at Umbreon but narrowly dodged that. Umbreon's glowed silver and slammed it into Butterfree making him hover a little lower to the ground. Umbreon then released a charged ray of orange energy form its mouth. Butterfree got hit at the lower half of its body, but managed to stay upright in the air.

"Now use Yawn, Umbreon.", said Gary. Umbreon opened his mouth and let loose a stream of transparent bubbles.

"Butterfree, use Tailwind to send them right back at Umbreon.", said Ursula as Butterfree flapped his wings, creating a strong wind and redirecting the bubbles at Umbreon. They soon popped in Umbreon's face, making him feel very sleepy and his eyelids feeling heavy.

"Umbreon, try to stay awake, Use Dark Pulse.", said Gary quickly.

With the last of his active energy, Umbreon fired a beam of dark energy at Butterfree.

"Butterfree, counter it with a Signal Beam.", said Ursula.

A rainbow beam blasted out of an orb between Butterfree's antennae and headed directly for Umbreon. Both attacks didn't collide with each other as they shot past one another. The Dark Pulse and The Signal Beam both hit their targets, makingumbreon faint and Butterfree fall to the ground. Both pokemon were unconscious.

"Both pokemon are unable to continue. This battle ends in a draw. Trainers, send out your last Pokemon.", called out the referee.

"Return, Umbreon. You did great.", said Gary to his black pokemon as it disappeared in a flash of red light.

"Butterfree. Take a well deserved rest.", said Ursula as she returned the butterfly pokemon to her pokeball.

"Lets do this, Blastoise!", shouted Gary as he released his water starter once again.

"Blastoooooise!", roared Blastoise.

"Torterra, battle ready.", said Ursula as she released her own grass and ground starter.

"Torterraaa!", roared out Torterra.

"And this is the final battle for this match, folks. Both pokemon are at an advantage and disadvantage as well as being two of the most heaviest pokemon in existence. Who will win and who will lose?", said the commentator.

Xxxxx

"Papa, can Mama win this?", asked Manaphy.

"Don't worry, Manaphy. Mama is strong. So lets cheer for her.", replied Ash as eh stroked Manaphy's lavender human hair.

"Go, Ursula. You can do ", cheered Manaphy.

xxxxx

"Trainers, battle begin!", called out the referee.

"Torterra, start off with Rock Polish. And use it as many times as you can until Blastoise attacks.", said Ursula.

Torterra's body suddenly gave off a flash of lustrous gleams, increasing its speed for a very heavy pokemon. The process repeated several times.

"Blastoise use Hydro Pump.", said Gary.

"Torterra, dodge that.", retorted Ursula.

The twin cannons of Blastoise's back took aim at Torterra and blasted parallel torrents of water art Torterra. The attack hit Torterra in the baskside, causing him some pain, but it soon went away because of her grass type powers

"Now use Skull Bash, Blastoise.", said Gary.

Although incredibly slow, Blastoise's cranium glowed white and he began to run as fast as he could at Torterra.

"Throw him off-course with an Earthquake, Torterra. And then use Giga Drain.", said Ursula.

Torterra stomped his feet on the ground, which caused a powerful tremor in the earth. The vibrations caused Blastoise to trip and fall over on his belly. Green energy vines came out off the rocks on Torterra's back and latched onto Blastoise, draining him of his strength while restoring Torterra's health.

"Blastoise, break free of those binds with Rapid Spin and then use your best Whirlpool.", said Gary.

Blastoise withdrew into his shell and began to spin counterclockwise, breaking the vines and making them disappear. He then came out of his shell and formed an enormous water whirlpool in his mouth, which he then launched at Torterra. Even though Torterra weighed an incredible weight, the whirlpool was beginning to lift him off the ground.

"Torterra, use Earthquake once more.", said Ursula.

Torterra managed to smash his hind leg on the ground, causing a tremor and also opening a crack in the earth. The water got sucked into the hole, cancelling out the whirlpool.

Both pokemon were looking very tired, but still determined to win.

'Time to finish this off.', thought Gary. "Blastoise, attack with Hydro Cannon."

"Torterra, counter it with Frenzy Plant.", said Ursula.

Blastoise fired two orbs of water energy from his cannons while Torterra unleashed gigantic green vines from the ground with her grass powers. Unfortunately, both attacks missed each other by mere inches from each other as Hydro Cannon flew on either side of the vines while the vines headed straight for Blastoise. At last, the water orbs struck Torterra while the plant impacted upon Blastoise. Two explosions of dusty clouds came upon the two pokemon, making it impossible to see which one is the winner.

But as soon as the smoke cleared, both pokemon were seen still standing and struggling to stay that way. Torterra was about to give away, but Blastoise smirked before his eyes closed and fell on the ground, exhausted.

"Bastoise is unable to battle. Torterra is the winner and the match goes to Ursula of Sandgem Town.", said the referee.

The crowd clasped and cheered for the girl. Manaphy and Ash seemed to beat them all by congratulating her the most. Ursula waved to the crowd and smiled as Torterra came to her side.

"Blastoise, return. You did an excellent job so take a nice long rest, old friend.", said Gary as he returned his defeated water starter. He then walked over to Ursula.

"Well done in winning your battle, Ursula. With the battle you gave me, I think you'll be great as a trainer.", said Gary.

"Thanks, Gary.", replied Ursula.

Xxxxx

"Well, Gary, I guess this is it. Where do you plan to go from here?", asked Ash.

Ash, Pikachu, Ursula and Gary were all outside the Pokemon Centre. Ash had won his battle earlier. And now Gary was leaving to go his own pathway.

"Well, I got an invitation form Professor Birch to help him with some studies he's conducting around Hoenn. That sounds real interesting since I might be able to go see some new places.", replied Gary.

"Well, good luck to you out there, Gary. Perhaps we might see each other out there in the future.", said Ursula.

"Maybe we will. Well, I have to go now. See you later, guys.", said Gary as he began to walk off on a dirt road back to Pallet Town and into the sunset.

"See you later, Gary!", said Ursula and Ash in unison.

"Pika Pi!", squeaked Pikachu.

Xxxxx

"Welcome, everybody to the Finals Match of the Kanto League Tournament. From Veilstone City in Sinnoh, we have Paul. And from Pallet Town here in Kanto, we have Ash. These two young competitors have battled their way bravely with their pokemon to make it this far, but there can only be one winner today. Everybody, give a round of applause to our final contenders!", announced the commentator.

The crowd went absolutely ballistic for the two young boys. People were chanting their names, waving posters and screaming in complete excitement.

Ursula, Manaphy and Pikachu were sitting in the bleachers, cheering for their friend. Pikachu was a little bit disappointed that he wouldn't get to battle against Paul, but he couldn't blame Ash. Paul's pokemon were at an extremely high level. A level that might give Pikachu a one-way ticket to the emergency room, so Ash had decided to use some of his more large and powerful pokemon. He chose Lucario, Charizard, Sceptile, Gengar, Garchomp and Zekrom. The reason for Zekrom was that Paul had a little chat with Ash last night.

Xxxxx Flashback start

It was the night before the finals match and Ash, Ursula, Manaphy and Pikachu were in their hotel room, having takeout dinner from a noodle joint when there came a knock on the door.

"I'll get it, guys.", said Ash as he strode towards the door and Manaphy hid behind a bed to avoid being seen.

When he opened the door, he was surprised to see the other finalist, Paul. He had his old serious face on him.

"What brings you here, Paul?", asked Ash.

"Ash, as you know, tomorrow is the Kanto League Finals. Everyone will be wanting to see us battle the best that we can with out best pokemon. I already have my best pokemon ready for tomorrow, but I want you to do the same thing.", explained Paul.

"Sure thing.", replied Ash.

"No. Not just any of your pokemon. Six of your strongest. I want a real challenge from you. Not like back in the Sinnoh League or the other competitors the participated here.", reassured Paul.

"Ok, Ok, Paul. I understand. I'll bring some of my best tomorrow. Don't worry about it.", said Ash.

"Good.", said Paul as he turned and left for his hotel room. Ash closed the door.

Xxxxx Flashback end

Ever since Ursula's win against Gary and reaching the Top 8, Ash and Ursula had been doing some extra practice. Ash had made it to the Top 4 that next day when he won his battle and so did Ursula.

However, when Ash had defeated his opponent in the semi-finals, Paul faced off against Ursula. As many expected, Paul had won the match, but Ursula managed to take down his Ursaring with Garchomp; which isn't an easy task because Ursaring was indubitably Paul's third strongest.

Ursula wasn't that disappointed as she was only going to redo it next time. But now, she was going to cheer for her friend and support him. Manaphy wasin his human form and Pikachu was sitting next to him.

"The Kanto League Finals match between Ash of Pallet Town and Paul of Veilstone City id is about to begin,", called out the referee, "Each trainer will be able to use six pokemon each and substitutions will be allowed for each trainer. The match will be over when all of either team's pokemon will be unable to continue. The choice of who goes first will be decided by coin toss. Trainers, decide your coin sides."

"Heads!", said Paul.

"Tails!", said Ash.

The referee used his Poketch for a few moments before calling out. "The toss ended in heads, so Paul will be able to call the first pokemon."

"Ursaring, stand by for battle.", shouted Paul as he called out his hibernator pokemon.

"Mmmrrehrrgg!", growled Ursaring showing his menacing glare at Ash.

'Ursaring. The last time I saw him, he used Bulk Up, Focus Blast, Hammer Arm and Slash. Have to be strong against both types of moves. Wait, I got it.', thought Ash before calling upon his pokemon, "Gengar, I choose you!"

The purple shadow pokemon with the red eyes and wicked grin on his face appeared before everyone. As a practical joke, he pulled down his eyelids and blew a raspberry at Ursaring in laughter. This only irritated Ursaring.

"And Paul has gone with Ursaring while Ash has gone with Gengar. And because of their typing, both Pokemon are immune to their respective attacks. This should be a really interesting battle, folks.", said the commentator.

"Paul will be allowed the first move,", called out the referee, "Battle, begin!"

"Ursaring, start off with Metal Claw.", said Paul.

Immediately, because of Gengar's taunting, Ursaring sprinted at Gengar with a menacing grin of his own and two hands with metallic claws.

"Gengar, dodge and use Swagger.", said Ash.

Gengar floated upwards above Ursaring to dodge. He thin produced a green ring from his hands and let it hit Ursaring. He glowed with a green aura before he started looking around in confusion.

"Now while he's confused, Gengar, use Focus Blast.", said Ash.

"Ursaring, use Shadow Claw around yourself until you come out of confusion.", said Paul.

Gengar charged up a bluish white sphere in his hands while constantly dodging the dark claws trying to hit him. He finally launched it, hitting Ursaring straight in the back and causing major damage. It caused Ursaring to not only fall on his stomach, but he was also now out of his trance.

"Use Will-O-Wisp, Gengar.", said Ash.

"Ursaring, take that.", said Paul.

'What?',thought Ash, 'Why would he- wait a minute. I had completely forgotten Ursaring's ability is Guts.'

The purple flames splashed upon Ursaring, burning him in the process. But he roared and a red aura consumed him, activating the Guts ability and making him stronger.

"Ursaring, use double Shadow Claw.", said Paul.

Both of Ursaring's hands were consumed with ghost energy and sharpened into claws. He then fiercely charged at Gengar and started slashing him with the claws. This was making Gengar wince in pain every time.

"Gengar, quickly use Double Team.", said Ash.

Just as Ursaring was about to land another Shadow Claw, he suddenly got hurt by the burn he attained, giving Gengar the time to make copies of himself and surround Ursaring.

"Now use a Double Brick Break.", said Ash.

All of the surrounding Gengars' hands glowed white and floated rapidly at Ursaring. But they all disappeared and the real one struck his hands at Ursaring's back when he wasn't looking. Exhausted, Ursaring fell to the ground, out cold.

"Ursaring is unable to battle. This battle goes to Gengar. Trainer, select your next pokemon.", said the referee.

"Ursaring, return.", said Paul, "Now, Froslass, stand by for battle."

The icy ghost pokemon came forth. Ash decided to stick with Gengar.

"Trainers, battle begin.", said the referee.

"Gengar, use Shadow Ball.", said Ash.

"Froslass, doge that and use your own Shadow Ball.", said Paul.

Gengar fired an orb of ghost energy from his hands, only for Froslass to dodge that attack. She then retaliated by blasting her own orb. It hit Gengar on the chest, causing him to wince in pain and making him fall to the ground, but he wasn't out yet.

"Gengar, use Rest.", said Ash.

Gengar closed his eyes and soon began to doze off and regaining his strength.

"Froslass, use Blizzard.", said Paul.

Froslass summoned a whirlwind storm of snow and directed it at Gengar. This knocked him out cold out of the battle since he didn't regain enough energy.

"Gengar is unable to battle. The battle goes to Froslass. Trainer, select your next pokemon.", said the referee.

"Gengar, return and have a nice long rest.", said Ash as he returned Gengar and chose another pokeball, "Charizard, I choose you."

The great fiery dragon emerged and took battle stance.

"Trainers, battle begin.", said the referee.

"Froslass, aim for Charizard's wings and use Ice Beam.", said Paul.

"Charizard, counter that with a Flamethrower, then charge in and use Iron Tail.", said Ash.

Froslass let loose a stream of ice energy from her mouth and it headed for Charizard. But that didn't have any chance against the fired that melted right through it. Charizard than flew in at high speed and slammed his metal tail at Froslass' head, giving her a severe headache.

"Now finish her off with a Blast Burn, Charizard.", said Ash.

Charizard formed an orb of fire in his mouth and then he released a tremendous amount of heat energy around him, which hit Froslass on the spot. She then fell to the ground with swirls in her eyes,

"Froslass is unable to battle. The battle goes to Charizard. Trainer, choose your next pokemon.", exclaimed the referee.

"Froslass return. Good job.", said Paul as he returned Froslass, "Nidoking, stand by for battle."

"Charizard, return. Sceptile, I choose you.", said Ash as he returned his fire lizard and released his grass gecko.

"Battle begin!", announced the referee.

"Sceptile, head in with a Leaf Blade infused with Agility.", said Ash.

"Nidoking, counter it with Sludge Wave.", said Paul.

Sceptile took off at a rapid speed with the leaves on his arms glowing bright green. At the same time, Nidoking fired a wave of purple sludge from his mouth. It hit Sceptile, but the Leaf Blade also struck Nidoking. Both pokemon had taken some super effective hits.

"Sceptile, try to gain some strength back with Giga Drain.", said Ash.

"Nidoking, use Earthquake.", said Paul.

Glowing vines protruded from Sceptile's finger tips and they latched themselves onto Nidoking, beginning to drain him of his strength. But Nidoking stomped his feet on the ground, creating a tremor that shook the battlefield and getting Sceptile off his balance. The vines released Nidoking and the ground stopped rumbling.

Both pokemon were getting tired at this point, so the battle had to end soon.

"Nidoking, attack with Poison Jab.", said Paul.

"Sceptile, go in with a Dual Chop.", said Ash.

Both Pokemon charged at each other. Nidoking had a purple glowing hand while Sceptile had two flat hands glowing dark blue. As soon as they met inches away, Nidoking slammed his hand at Sceptile's stomach while Sceptile jabbed his hands at Nidoking's chest. They then separated from each other, giving each other menacing glares. But the two pokemon fell to the ground in unison with swirls in their eyes.

"Both pokemon are unable to battle. This battle is a draw. Since Paul has lost three pokemon, there will be a brief ten minute intermission before the second half of the match shall begin.", announced the referee.

"And there you have it, everyone. After some stunning battles, Paul is down to three pokemon while Ash still has four. Don't go away yet as the excitement will continue after this ten minute break.", said the commentator.

Ash made his way to his own waiting room. Ursula, Manaphy in his human form and Pikachu were waiting for him there already. Pikachu jumped up on Ash's shoulder.

"So far, so good, guys.", exclaimed Ash.

"Pika Pika Pikachu.", said Pikachu, glad for his trainer.

"You're doing well, Ash. So just keep it up.", said Ursula.

"Yes, Papa. You can do this.", said Manaphy.

"Thanks for all your support guys, but I still feel a little uneasy. I mean, I've never gotten to the finals of a league before and I'm still shocked that I'm in the finals today, especially against my strongest rival Paul.", said Ash as he sat down on a bench.

"Yeah, but since you defeated Paul before, there is a good chance that you might be able to beat him again.", said Ursula.

"I know that, but there is much more at stake here since this is going to determine the winner of this year's Kanto League.", replied Ash.

"Don't worry, Papa. Just do your best and we won't think any different of you.", said Manaphy.

"Pika Chu Pika.", agreed Pikachu.

"Thanks for all your support.", said Ash.

After the ten minute break was over, Ash made it back outside and took his place in the trainer box. Paul did the same.

"And welcome back, everyone, to the second half of the Finals Match between Ash and Paul.", said the commentator.

"Trainers, select your next pokemon and resume battle.", said the referee.

"Aggron, stand by for battle!", said Paul.

"Charizard, I choose you.", said Ash.

From Paul's pokeball, the powerful iron armoured pokemon and gave out a fierce roar.

"Aaaagggroon!", roared Aggron.

Charizard emerged from his pokeball and took immediate battle stance.

"Rraaarggh!", roared Charizard.

"Aggron, start off with Flash Cannon.", said Paul.

"Charizard, use Fire Blast straight into the Flash Cannon and then use Steel Wing.", commanded Ash.

Aggron released a silver blast of metal energy from his mouth while Charizard sent a shot of fire in the shape of a star at that attack, causing them to cancel each other out and creating a cloud of smoke. Out of the smoke, Charizard flew down with metal wings and slammed then into Aggron's chest. Aggron fell down on his back from the attack, still feeling the pain in his body. But it soon subsided and he got back on his feet.

"Good, Aggron. Use Stone Edge.", said Paul.

"Charizard, dodge that.", said Ash.

Aggron created floating pointed rocks around him and launched them at Charizard, who tried to dodge. He managed to evade most of them, but some managed to hit him on his belly and wings.

"Charizard, use Flare Blitz with Giga Impact.", said Ash.

"Aggron, counter it with Hyper Beam.", said Paul.

Charizard was suddenly cloaked in blue flames, showing the activation of the fire move. But he was also internally covered in a purple aura of Giga Impact, and soon began flying down at Aggron. Aggron, meanwhile charged an orange orb in his mouth and fired it. Charizard was practically at his nose when the attack hit, but he also managed to hit Aggron with his own attack. This caused yet another explosion of smoke and dust. When it cleared, Charizard was knocked out while Aggron was struggling to stay up.

"Charizard is unable to battle. The battle goes to Aggron. Trainer, select your next pokemon.

"Aggron, return and take a break for now. Magmortar, stand by for battle.", said Paul as he returned his tired Aggron and replaced him with the sharp claw pokemon.

"Charizard, have a well deserved break and great job.", said Ash as he returned his fire lizard, "Lucario, I choose you."

The aura pokemon materialised himself in front of the crowd and it front of Magmortar. Magmortar just smirked.

'Another Lucario, huh?', thought Magmortar, 'I'll have absolutely no problem beating this one like the one back in Sinnoh.'

'Hmph,' replied Lucario, 'we'll just see about that.'

"Battle begin!", shouted the referee.

"Magmortar, use Flamethrower!", instructed Paul.

"Lucario, defend with Bone Rush and then attack with it while using Extreme Speed.", said Ash.

Magmortar suddenly fired parallel streams of fire from his cannon-like hands and directed them at Lucario. But he formed an aura bone in his hands and spun it around in front of the flames, extinguishing them. He then formed another bone in his free hand and ran off at blurring speeds around Magmortar and began to hit him repeatedly with the bones in unreachable places.

"Now do the same thing with Water Pulse.", said Ash.

"Magmortar, use Heatwave around you.", said Paul.

"Lucario, use Water Pulse on yourself for protection.", said Ash.

Lucario quickly switched his bones into water orbs in hands. He firstly spashed the first two upon himself, feeling the freshness and cooling properties of the liquid, and then starting firing them at Magmortar. Magmortar had erupted blasts of heat energy from his body. It was beginning to evaporate some of the incoming water orbs and, even worse, evaporate the water protecting Lucario.

"Lucario, finish this off with Aura Sphere.", said Ash.

"Magmortar, dodge that.", said Paul.

But it was too late as Magmortar was too slow. Lucario formed an orb made of pure aura and flung it at Magmortar, hitting him in the back and causing him to faint, out cold.

"Magmortar is unable to battle. The battle goes to Lucario. Trainer, select your next pokemon", said the referee.

"Aggron, return to the field one more time.", said Paul as he once again released his iron armour pokemon. But he was still looking very rundown and tired.

"Lucario, return. Garchomp, I choose you.", said Ash as he released his mach pokemon.

"Trainers, battle begin.", said the referee.

"Garchomp, lets finish this off quickly. Use Brick Break.", said Ash.

Garchomp quickly glided towards aggron and gracefully struck him in the chest with one of his glowing claws. With the damage he already took from Charizard, Aggron instantly collapsed in a motionless heap.

"Aggron is unable to continue. The battle goes to Garchomp. Trainer Paul, select your last pokemon.", said the referee.

Paul gripped his last pokeball tightly before throwing it. "Torterra, stand by for battle."

Paul's massive starter pokemon appeared before his opponent.

"Battle begin.", said the referee.

"Garchomp, start off with a Flamethrower.", said Ash.

"Torterra, use Protect and then Leaf Storm.", said Paul.

Garchomp blasted a stream of fire from his mouth at the continent pokemon, but it harmlessly bounced off the green shield that Torterra summoned. When the shield disappeared, Torterra unleashed a giant tornado of leaves from the tree on his back and blasted it at Garchomp. The dragon took that attack, suffering some high damage.

"Garchomp, retaliate with Dragon Rush and use Crunch when in close range.", said Ash.

"Torterra, use Withdraw.", said Paul.

Garchomp flew into the sky and was soon covered in a dragon-shaped dark blue and Torterra had enclosed his body under his shell for the extra defence. Garchomp slammed onto Torterra's back and used Crunch on the tree on the turtle's back. Torterra screeched out in pain, but he wasn't done yet.

"Torterra, use Giga Drain and don't hold back.", said Paul in a Final effort to heal Torterra.

Green glowing vines came out from the stones on Torterra's back and latched themselves onto some parts of Garchomp's body. As soon as they finished absorbing the little amount of energy that Garchomp had left, he fell to the ground with swirls in his eyes.

"Garchomp is unable to battle. The battle goes to Torterra. Trainer Ash, send out your next pokemon.", said the referee.

"What a battle, folks. Torterra was quite powerful to take down Garchomp with its powerful grass type moves. But now, which pokemon will Ash choose next?", shouted the commentator.

"Well, Ash, you really had me going in the start, but now I want you to give me a real challenge for Torterra. Charizard was your strongest and was knocked out, so you must have someone else.", said Paul.

"Well, Paul you're about to get your challenge.", said Ash as he gripped his sixth pokeball before throwing, "Zekrom, I choose you!"

"Huh?", gasped Paul in confusion.

From Ash's pokeball emerged the deep black dragon of Unova, Zekrom. He gave out a bellowed roar that shook the stadium.

"Folks, are we truly seeing what I think we're seeing? The legendary black dragon of Unova, Zekrom? In Ash's possession? Some of you might know that he already has Ho-oh from the Wallace Cup, but having Zekrom as well is truly astounding to see. So lets see what power of a battle we'll get from this.", shouted the commentator to the crowd.

"Finally, a real challenge.", said Paul to himself.

"Trainers, battle begin!", said the referee.

"Torterra, start off with Earthquake.", said Paul.

"Zekrom, Fly up to dodge.", said Ash.

"Gladly.", replied Zekrom as he flew up into the air. He then came flying back down, right above Torterra's back and colliding with it. Taking damage from the super effective flying-type move, Torterra was forced to kneel down on one of his knees from the discomfort.

"Now use Toxic, Zekrom.", said Ash. With the claws on his right hand glowing purple, ekrom quickly scratched Torterra's back. Torterra started to show some signs of purple on his body, the poison taking effect.

"Torterra, if you can still fight use Giga Drain to regain some strength.", said Paul.

Torterra managed to get back on his feet and release the glowing green vines.

"Zekrom, cut it up using Dragon Claw.", said Ash. Zekrom's claws glowed bluish green and began to slice up the vines until they were no more.

"Now finish this battle off with lifting Torterra in the air with Psychic and slamming him into the ground.", said Ash. Zekrom's eye's glowed a pink color and he used his hands to levitate Torterra in to the air a few meters before slamming him on the ground, shell first and causing some dust to rise. When the dust settled, Torterra was upside down on his shell, knocked out cold nad unconscious.

"Torterra is unable to battle. Zekrom wins and the winner of this year's Kanto League is Ash of Pallet Town.", announced the referee with delight in his voice.

"And there you have it, people! It was a great battle today between our two fierce finalists, but it looks like after all that, Ash has grasped victory from defeat, even after his win at the Kanto Grand Festival.", shouted the ecommentator, "Ladies and gentlemen, lets give a round of loud applause to this year's Kanto League winner, Ash Ketchum!"

"Zekrom, we did it! We won!", explaimed Ash.

"Indeed we have, Ash.", said Zekrom in response, glad for the Hero of Ideals and his worthy trainer.

The crowd burst into claps, shouts and cheers for the Kanto League winner. Manaphy, Pikachu and Ursula were giving quite possibly the loudest cheers for the winner. But Ash, after all that was still starstruck. He had finally won a League. A real regional Pokemon League. With the pokemon he put so much effort into training. He was almost speechless.

Xxxxx

That night, the awards ceremony took place at the stadium. All of the Participants were at the stadium arena. On the stage stood Scott, Mr Goodshow, Lance and the Kanto Elite Four that consisted of Bruno, Karen, Will and Lorelei

As always, the participants got a plaque for participating and their valiant efforts in the league. But it was time for the Top Three winners to be presented. Ursula managed to squeeze in to third place since she was more competent that the trainer who Ash defeated and ended up in fourth place.

"Can the Top Three Participants please come up the main stage for their awards?", said Mr Goodshow.

Ash, Paul and Ursula walked together in a small group as they walked up the short steps on the main stage.

"Ursula and Paul, you two have gotten very high in your first Kanto League Tournament. You two should be proud of yourselves and your pokemon . So I present you with your trophies of commendation.", said Mr Goodshow as he each handed them a small trophy similar to the Orange League Trophy.

When it was Ash's turn, he walked up to Mr Gooshow. "Ash, my boy, congratulations on your first official regional league win. You may have gotten very high in the past leagues, but you have definitely proven that you are a winner today.", said Mr Goodshow.

"Thank you very much, sir.", said Ash.

"Well, since the ceremony is almost over, I present to you the Kanto League Cup.", said Mr Goodshow as we handed Ash a golden trophy with the engraved letters Kanto League Winner Ketchum of Pallet Town.

Lance took over the microphone. "Everyone, this Kanto League Tournament has been great as it always has been. So before I allow you to leave and have a good night's rest, lets give one last big cheer for all our participants and the Top Three trainers of this year's competition.", said Lance.

The crowd, for the last time tonight gave out a grand applause before dying down.

"Now that the ceremony is done, I bid you all farewell, and I will see you all at next year's tournament.", said Lance.

The crowd soon began to empty out the stadium as they left and the participants followed. As Paul and Ursula were leaving and Ash was beginning to follow, he heard his name getting called.

"Hey, Ash?", asked Scott, "Would you mind sticking around a little longer?" We want to undergo a few details with you regarding the Elite Four Challenge."

"Sure, Scott.", said Ash.

Ash, Scott, Lance, Mr Goodshow and the Elite Four made their way out of the stadium and they soon arrived at what seemed to be a conference room in a large building. There were a few sofas, armchairs, tables, portraits on the walls and other fancy accessories.

"Ash, allow me to firstly introduce the Elite Four to you.", said Lance as he pointed to the first member.

She was a woman in her early twenties who had her light blue hair let down. She was light-skinned with light purple eyes. She was wearing a yellow tank top, grey jeans and had an orange coat.

"Ash, this is Karen. She is the first member of the Elite Four as well as the youngest. She specialises in dark-type pokemon.", said Lance.

"Hello, it's great to meet you, ma'am.", said Ash politely.

"Likewise, Ash. Good to meet you too.", said Karen.

"This is Bruno, the second member. But I'm sure you two have met each other already.", said Lance.

"Indeed we have, Lance. Good to see you again, kid.", said the muscular man.

"Same here.", said Ash.

"This is Will. He's our psychic-type specialist and the third Elite Member.", said Lance as he showed a man with purple hair and who was wearing a crimson formal masquerade suit.

"How's everything, kid?", said Will.

"Great, Will.", said Ash.

"And lastly, we have Lorelei. She's the ice-type specialist and the fourth member.", said Lance. A woman with reddish purple hair in a ponytail wearing a black skirt with a red shirt and blue coat showed herself. Ash recognised her instantly.

"Prima!? You're an Elite Four Member?", exclaimed Ash in confusion.

"I am, Ash. I guess I should have told you the last time we met.", said Lorelei.

"Wait a minute, guys. Where's Bertha?", asked Ash.

"Bertha retired from being an Elite Four member and she was replaced with Karen.", explained Mr Goodshow.

"Anyways, down to business, Ash. Now that you have won the Kanto League, you have the privilege to challenge the Elite Four. And if you beat them, you have a chance at battling me for my title.", explained Lance, "You can have as much time as you need to prepare for this challenge."

"Actually, Lance, I was wondering on something. I was hoping to go to Kalos next to compete in the league there and then all the other ones I hadn't won yet. After I win all of them, I want to challenge all the Elite Four and champions, one by one.", said Ash.

"That's perfectly fine with us, right guys?", said Bruno to the others. They all nodded.

"Actually, that's probably a good training preparation, Ash.", said Will.

"Why's that?", asked Ash.

"There has been a new rule in the regional leagues that all Elite Four members will be allowed to use one pokemon that can Mega Evolve within their team as well as a regular champion. Mastering Mega Evolution might be helpful for you.", said Scott.

"Alright then, Ash. If you ever need to contact us about taking the challenge, you can do it anytime and just make sure you are ready.", said Bruno.

"And while you're at it, why don't you try out the brand new Kalos Battle Frontier Challenge?", said Scott.

"There's a Battle Frontier in Kalos?", asked Ash in excitement.

"Yep, the only regions that we haven't set up yet is Hoenn and Unova, so Kalos is a great place to start.", said Scott.

The conversation went on for a little while longer until Ash headed back to the hotel where his pokemon and Ursula were.

Xxxxx 3 Days later

So, you two, are you ready to go?", asked Delia.

Ash, Ursula, Pikachu, Delia and Professor Oak, were all at the Vermillion City Airport. There was a plane that came in recently from Hoenn that was bound for Kalos.

During the last three days, a lot had happened. Ash and Ursula returned to Pallet Town after the league was finished. The entire town was proud for the two and Delia was extremely happy for her son for winning a league.

But there was also an unexpected visitor that came to Professor Oak's ranch. A Houndour. It turned out to be the very same Houndour that Ash had helped back in Johto. He had wanted to come with him. So Ash added him to the team.

Ursula's parents were also very proud of her. She mailed the trophy back to them in Sandgem Town.

Ash also decided to do some trading with his Tauros. He asked Professor Oak to put all, except his original and more used Tauros, up for trade throughout every region except Kanto.

But now they were at the airport, giving a good send off to the duo and Pikachu. They were sure to have a good time in Kalos.

"Well, take care of yourselves and have fun. And send me some new pokemon whenever you can.", said Professor Oak.

"Honey, be sure to keep Ursula and the pokemon safe.", said Delia.

"I will, Mom. ", said Ash,

"And be sure to change your you-know-whats everyday.", said Delia.

Ash gave a faint blush while Ursula giggled and Pikachu snickered.

"Well you better get going.", said Professor Oak.

Ash, Pikachu and Ursula made their way to the terminal, gave their tickets and waved to Delia and Oak. They waved back.

Ten minutes passed and the plane took off for Kalos.

Unbeknownst to the trio, a certain Ralts who came from Hoenn was in the luggage section of the plane snuck into Ash's backpack. She originally had another trainer in mind but now, even for Max, the tables have turned.
