Chapter 1: Fear At First Sight
-(Alexas' perspective)-
Friday. 10:30 PM.
"Looking back on the whole operation, i can clearly see what went wrong.." I thought. "I knew something was wrong. Oh well, thats over with now. I should just get home for now.."
As I was walking home in the stormy night, I started to wonder.
"What happened to Alan I wonder? I saw him take off into the forest behind that house I got busted at. I saved him from the sentence of being involved in the crime, but at what cost? He's probably in the next town, away from the cops here looking for him."
Lost in thought, I hardly noticed the small gray figure not far in front of me, walking my way.
"Just a Pokemon enjoying the rainy weather, probably."I reassured myself.
It seemed to not care i was there for a second, but out of nowhere started to charge at me!
"Oh shit!"
I panicked and started to run back the way I came.
"It wants to kill me!" I screamed in my mind.
I rounded a street corner and kept running past a few houses then ducked into an alley, hoping to outsmart the Pokemon chasing me and hide in the darkness.
It never passed the alley. I didn't even see it look in.
"Is it gone? Did it stop chasing me?"
I waited for what seemed to be an hour before I moved.
I went to leave the alley and stopped. But why did I?
A footstep behind me made me turn around.
"Hello? Who's there?" I questioned.
No response except for a dark figure in the shape of a human standing but a few feet away from me.
"Who are you? Speak up!" I tried to sound threatening, just in the odd case that it may try to hurt me.
But as soon as the words left my mouth I heard light footsteps running rapidly and getting louder.
It was the Pokemon.
Without another word I ran past the figure standing before me and down the alley, hoping to outrun the Pokemon chasing me.
I rounded the corner back onto the street and down the sidewalk again, in the direction of my house.
"Pant..pant.. I can't keep running like this, I'm pushing myself too hard and my gut is cramping up. I have to rest… But where?" I frantically thought while still running at full speed, still with the fear the Pokemon wants to kill me, which it probably does, judging by how it's chasing me.
After running for a block, my house was finally in sight.
"Oh yes! Home!" I happily thought.
But that was only the start of the horrors I was destined to experience.
I was within half a block of my house and my body couldn't take it anymore. I was exhausted from running for so long, it seemed like I was done for.
I looked behind me, only to see that the Pokemon wasn't there!
"Wha-?" I was cut off.
"You just won't stop running, huh?"
A chill went up my spine as I spun around to see what had been chasing me, and I nearly turned to run when it spoke again.
It was the Pokemon. It looked to be gray, confirming my guess earlier, and fox-like with a coiled tail and tall, narrow ears.
"Don't run. You know that you can't outrun me."
It was right. I can't run anymore. I might as well just give up now.
"You were a very difficult target to keep after, I'll give you that." Said the Pokemon. "But now down to business-"
He was cut off by a person running down the street towards us.
"Hey you! Shoo! Leave that woman alone! Get!" The man yelled.
Without warning, the Pokemon took off across the street with the presence of another human with me.
"Are you okay? Did it hurt you at all, ma'am?"
I recognized the outfit and voice from a man I remember from 6 months ago.
"Yea, I'm fine. If it weren't for you who knows.. what would've happened to me.." I panted. "Wait.. I remember you. Have we met before?"
"I don't believe we have. My name is Corporal Wells. But you may call me Lukas."
"Lukas! It's that cop from the bust! He doesn't recognise me! What do I do? Do I tell him where we met? Do I say that I know him? Do I-"
"Ma'am? Are you okay? You seem to be staring off into space." He broke me from my frantic thoughts.
"O-oh yea, I'm fine. Really." I covered.
"Alright then… Do you need someone to escort you home? It's a horrible night to be chased by a Pokemon, you know that right?"
I chuckled a little at that remark.
"I suppose you're right. I live just down the street" I pointed in the direction of my house.
He gave me a nod and we walked to my house in silence, with the exception of the sound of the rain beating down endlessly.
But I couldn't help but think. "Who was that man in the alley? He didn't respond to me when I asked him those questions. Was it my imagination?"
"No it couldn't be, I recognized his figure, but.. who?"
Saturday. 10:10 AM.
The next morning, I woke up on my couch in a sort of daze.
"I guess I didn't make it to my bed. Might as well get up and make breakfast then.."
As I got up to make breakfast I started to remember the events of last night began to flood my mind.
"Hmm… That man in the alley.. I still can't figure out if it was who I was thinking it was. It couldn't be him though, right? And Lukas.. Why was he there at that time of night, in that rain even?" I thought aloud.
But they were all valid questions. Who was that figure? And why Mr. Wells?
All the questions rattled around in my head, but were settled by the sizzling of bacon and eggs.
After I finished my meal I did the usual routine: washing and putting away.
I was however stopped by a surprising knock at the door.
"Yea, just a second!" I called as I put down my plate and walked to the door.
I opened the door only to find Lukas at the door.
"Oh hey Lukas! Need something?" I inquired. I was honestly curious why he was here, but he soon put those questions to rest.
"I'm just here to see how you're doing. You were pretty exhausted last night when I brought you home. Everything okay?" He said. "You don't need to be brought to the hospital or anything?"
"No sir, I'm okay. It was enough that a police officer such as you-"
"Ah, hold that thought. I may have wrongly introduced myself last night. You see, I was recently… Let go… Earlier yesterday. I'm still not quite used to introducing myself as Lukas Wills, rather than Corporal Wills. My apologies." He explained with a somber tone.
"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't know that. In that case I might as well introduce myself, I don't think I did last night. I'm Alexa." I could see his facial expression change.
"Wait, Alexa… Alexa! I know you! You were that illegal Ditto breeder I was involved in arresting 6 months ago!"
I immediately regretted introducing myself to him, as he explained that they never found my accomplice.
"Have you gotten in touch with him at all over these past 6 months?"
"Unfortunately, no. I don't even know where he took off to." I tried to hide my curiosity of his whereabouts, or he may question me about it.
"Hmm. Well he's still wanted you know. Ah, it doesn't matter, the force stopped focusing on him, they could never find him. Well, I should be going, I have a job interview in an hour and I have to prepare. So long as you're okay. I'll be seeing you."
"Yeah, see you." I said as I closed the door.
Why did he talk about Alan? Does he know something about his whereabouts that I don't?
It doesn't matter for now. What I should be worrying about is that gray fox-like Pokemon that chased me last night.
"Should I call the Pokemon catchers and send someone after it? It did after all try to kill me, or so it seemed. I couldn't really tell after it spoke to me." I thought while debating calling the catchers.
The rest of the day wasn't eventful, just sitting around watching TV. I even debated on going to the store to buy a PokeBall and go catch me a bodyguard, but I decided against it, as I don't have the money to take care of a Pokemon, and all the Pokemon I had from the breeding operation were confiscated and released. I even searched online for a job, as I quit my job before I began the operation to give me more time for it.
10:30 PM.
Eventually night rolled around and it was time to head to bed.
As I tucked into bed after having a shower, I felt strange. Like I had forgot about something.
"Oh well, I'll worry about it in the morning, after I'm all rested up." I thought to myself and proceeded to fall asleep.
But before I fell asleep I opened my eyes for a brief second, and I could've sworn I saw a pair of large ears in my window accompanied by a set of eyes faintly glimmering in the moon light.

I promise that the following chapters will be longer.
