Hey guys. So this story has had well over 200 views, which blew my expectations out of the water!
I made some tweaks to the other chapters, as I found some errors after re-reading them. If there was anything that was bothering you, it may be solved. My bad!
It makes me happy to see that people are interested in the story.
This chapter will be backstory for two characters at once, alternating perspectives.
This chapter took a while, my apologies, as it may come out late.
So here's chapter 2.
As always, I hope you enjoy!
Chapter 2: Old Friends
-(Lukas' perspective)-
Saturday. 10:40 AM.
The storm last night seems to have passed on west, leaving the sun hanging in the air by itself to dry what the storm left over.
It was a nice day out and I had just finished checking in on Alexa.
After what happened last night I was a bit concerned for her, and I wanted to check in if she was okay.
She's an average girl. 23, around 5'4" and an average build. Looked to be around 110 lbs. She has slightly messy medium length auburn hair and brown eyes, too.
She isn't bad, but she isn't particularly a model either.
I'm not that bad either, given my current state of unemployment.
I'm 29, I weigh 147 lbs, I'm 5'9" and I'd say I have a decent build. I'm nothing special, but I'm not horrid to look at either.
I can't really say much about Alexas' friend though, considering I never caught up with the bastard.
I wonder where he ran off to?
Either way, I had a job interview for 11:00 AM today down at the Pokemon Regulation Center.
I sent in a resume as a Pokemon Catcher because that's all I know: hunting things down. What a coincidence it was that whatever that Pokemon was, it was clearly attacking Alexa.
If I do get that job, I know exactly where I'm going: to find that Pokemon from last night.
The one thing that hasn't ceased to puzzle me, is where did her accomplice run off to?
My thoughts were broken by a voice.
"Hello, Lukas."
-(Alexas' perspective)-
Sunday. 1:30 AM.
I was woken up in the middle of the night by a loud thump in my house that seemed to have came from the living room. Wondering what it was, I got up and put my housecoat on and cautiously opened my bedroom door.
"H-hello? Is someone in my house?" I nervously asked the darkness.
The only reply I got was a shadow slowly moving towards me with faint footsteps, as if it thought I didn't see it.
"Stop! I see you! I'll call the police!" I threatened.
It didn't cease movement.
So I flipped the light switch to my right.
Then I saw it.
The Pokemon.
"Why are you here?"
"Because I have unfinished business with you, Alexa." It said.
"How do you know my name?" I was genuinely puzzled at his response.
How COULD it have known my name? I never told it my name and no one said it when this Pokemon was chasing me.
"I heard it from… somewhere. I can't say exactly, that would be too easy. What matters is I know it and where you live. I gained knowledge of your home when that other man ran towards you. I knew he was an officer because of the way he talked. Sounded very firm and commanding." It explained.
"But how did you hear his voice over the-"
"Ahem. Ears? They have a use you know, they're not just for show." It quickly said, cutting me off.
"Anyways, I found your house when the officer escorted you home. I followed you from the tree line on the other side of the street. Biggest helping hand you could've given me." It continued while growing a sinister smile.
"Well what are you, and why are you here?"
"I am a rare and elusive Pokemon, known as Jumpeon. I'm the last known living member of my Eeveelution. I am a legend among Pokemon League Champions and regular Trainers alike. And I'm here because of the way you exploited those Pokemon 8 months ago. Breeding them just to sell their babies, how could you? So I'm here to return-"
"How did you know about THAT?!" I quickly butted in.
"Well if you must know…"
-(Jumpeons' perspective)-
8 Months ago. Wednesday. November, 20th. 10:57 PM.
It was late afternoon, and I was scouting the alleyways and seemingly unused parking garages for a place to sleep. Staying on the move is crucial for me to stay hidden.
I had chosen a particular parking garage that seemed to be falling apart, obviously due to lack of care. Clearly unused.
I had gone up a level and was looking for a suitable place to sleep. It took me a good few minutes to find a good spot; behind some rubble and a few collapsed cardboard boxes was my bed tonight.
I was beginning to settle down when I heard a car drive into the garage. I was nervous, yet curious why there would be someone using this garage this late at night.
I went down the ramp to see what it was. It certainly was a car. Two humans, one male and one female, and a Pikachu on a fine rope got out of it.
I waited for a few minutes while the humans asked each other questions about "whether he would show up or not."
Then another car drove in. One human got out this time, with a small green lump in his hand.
Then they spoke.
"I assume you have the Pikachu I ordered, Alexa?" The lone male inquired
Before 'Alexa' responded, she seemed to pause. I sensed fear in her for a brief moment, then it was gone.
"Yup, he's right here, bred to your specifications." Alexa confirmed.
The lone male handed over the green lump to Alexa and in turn, Alexa took off the fine rope and gave the 'specifically bred' Pikachu to the lone male.
"Bred to your specifications? What does that mean?" That's when I realised what the lone male was holding.
Money.
"He's giving her money? For a Pokemon? Why would someone do this? What's so special about that Pikachu?" I thought, puzzled.
Immediately after Alexa gave the Pikachu to the male, the lone male thanked Alexa.
"Pleasure doing business with you. I will be sure to inform my associates of your trustworthy operation. We may do business again. Thanks."
Both parties got back into their cars and drove away without another word. I then retreated to my bed to analyze what happened just mere moments ago.
I had heard about Pokemon breeding, where the parents pass on some of their genes to the offspring. I got thinking about ways to breed, then 'specifically bred,' then it hit me.
"They made that Pokemon with specific genes to make money! How could they do that? It's not right!" I angrily thought.
"This has to be brought to justice!" I thought.
Yes. Justice. That's the answer. But how can I serve justice when I'm trying to stay hidden?
Stalking? Anonymously informing the authorities? Or just let it take its course? No. That last one's out. Something had to be done. Now.
Then I got it.
"I'll stalk her and learn of her whereabouts and survey from a distance until I have enough evidence and proof to anonymously inform the police. Genious!"
For the next 2 months I stalked Alexa in the shadows. I learned everything:
Her inventory.
Her location.
Her intents.
Her profits.
Her partner.
Her routine.
Everything.
On Sunday the 16th of January, I made the anonymous report to the police station. My plan of obtaining all information possible and conveying it to the police worked perfectly. Everything was set up. Now just for it to happen.
I had been sleeping at an abandoned house on the edge of the city, and at 11:30 PM on Tuesday the 18th, I had been sleeping in the house when I woke up to the sound of a car pulling up.
I leaped up and ran to the window.
A police cruiser.
"What? Why are they here? Have I been discovered?" So many questions were swimming in my head, until they were put to rest when a certain voice carried out a question.
"Sir. How should we set up this ambush? The suspects will be here in 30 minutes." An officer asked.
"We'll all hide in these bushes and wait until they arrive. Trainee, hide the cruiser."
"Wells, eh? quite the firm voice he has. It doesn't seem they're looking for me, after all. Might as well see what happens next."
After 30 minutes of waiting a car drove up to the house. Nothing happened for a few seconds, then 2 humans and a small Pokemon on a fine rope got out and approached the front door.
As they neared the door, I recognised them.
"Alexa and her partner? And, a Growlithe? What are they doing he-"
Then I got what was going on.
The police, abandoned house and Alexa with a Pokemon on the same rope the Pikachu was on.
It was too obvious.
"The police must've sent a fake offer to them to lure them out and catch them in the act!"
Then they knocked on the door, setting off the trap.
It couldn't have been better. The criminals being caught in the act! Then the trap was shut.
Five officers leaped out of the bushes to the left side of the house and pointed their guns at the perpetrators, accompanied by a loud yell.
"DROP THE POKEMON MA'AM AND GET ON THE GROUND!" They shouted repeatedly.
Alexas' partner fled behind the house, then came in through a broken window in the back, and Alexa let the Growlithe go. It ran off behind the house as well, poor thing.
"HANDS BEHIND YOUR HEAD!" They then shouted at Alexa.
My job was done. Justice was served. I was overjoyed.
At that point, I ducked out through the smashed window in the back, without Alexas' accomplice seeing me, and fled into the forest.
I did it.
6 Months later. Friday. July, 2nd. 10:00 PM.
With the satisfaction of locking up Alexa the criminal behind bars passively almost non-existent, and being out in the pouring rain, I was bored within a few months. Aside from the close calls with being seen, I didn't have much excitement anymore.
For the past 6 months I have been sleeping in any place i could find. I even tried to go back to the abandoned house, but it was… occupied every time I went inside.
I was prowling around for a place to sleep without being soaked in 5 minutes or found in the morning, and figured it was late enough that nobody would see me. So I searched from the sidewalk.
Whilst I was searching for a place to call a bed, I noticed a person down the street. I continued walking, hoping they didn't notice me in the rain.
But as I got closer, I recognised the figure.
"No. It can't be. Alexa?! I thought she was in jail! Maybe she broke out, or she escaped into the forest 6 months ago at the bust. Either way, it seems the police didn't do their job right. Time for the ace up my sleeve. I have just the thing to teach her a lesson. You can breed Pokemon with Pokemon, but the question is, can you breed a Pokemon with a human? She'll wish she never exploited Pokemon like that when I'm done with her for sure."
It seemed that she noticed me and didn't care, and kept walking.
So I broke out in a full sprint after her, hoping to wear her down.
Jumpeons used to be known for their springy tails and incredibly strong legs, so it was no surprise I kept up with her.
She rounded too many corners though, and I had to slow down for them, as the sidewalk was slippery in the rain. I stopped in the middle of the street, and waited, as I lost her.
But I heard her voice through the rain and pinpointed it to an alleyway a little down the road, so I took off running again.
As soon as I got close, I heard her take off again, so I jumped as soon as I got in the alley to be sure that if she was in fact talking to someone, that they didn't see me jump over them in time to recognise the legendary gray fur and body I sport.
I got back onto the street, and resumed the chase, and found her out of breath.
I leaped high over her as she turned around, so I may get a chance to commend my target for putting up such a fight.
"Here's my chance, better make it count!"
"Wha-?" Alexa started.
But I was quick on the draw.
"You just won't stop running, huh?" I questioned.
She turned quickly and almost ran when I dropped the verbal cage around her.
"Don't run. You know that you can't outrun me."
She seemed to accept her fate. Smart move. I spoke up again to commend her for her running.
"You were a very difficult target to keep after, I'll give you that." And then I cut to the chase. "But now down to business-"
But I was cut off by a familiar voice from behind me.
"Hey you! Shoo! Leave that woman alone! Get!" Cpl Wells yelled, undoubtedly directed at me.
I weighed my options, then fled.
For the time being.
I knew I couldn't let her go. No. Not yet. I haven't served justice yet. But I will soon.
Very soon.
-(Alexas' perspective)-
Sunday. 1:45 AM.
"So you now know what my intentions were. You're a criminal, and you must be taught how it feels to be a Pokemon that is… Exploited like you were doing for money." Jumpeon concluded.
I had no words. It was too much.
So he wants to rape me? No, this can't be happening! All I wanted was some good money to make it somewhere in life. Why me?
Why can't he just let it go? Have I not been punished enough?
"You know, I almost feel sorry for you. How could you have known that's why I was chasing you? Pitty. It really is."
"Why can't you just let this go and leave it be? Haven't I been punished enough?" I semi-pleaded.
I was scared. I could barely get the words out of my mouth. Was I really powerless against this fate?
"No, I'm afraid I can't. You don't know what you put those poor Pokemon through. But you will soon."
Anything I was thinking on saying was replaced with "Stop!" or "Please no!" when he jumped towards me, knocked me over and positioned himself over me.
-(Lukas' perspective)-
Saturday. 11:10 AM.
"Hello, Lukas." Said the stranger.
"Umm, I don't believe we've met?" I honestly tried to remember if I had met this man before.
He seemed familiar, but I couldn't tell why.
"Oh, we've met, believe me. Does the word 'Bust' ring any bells?" He said in a monotone voice.
"Wait, he knows my name, and he knows about the bust..." I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"Are.. Are you.." I hesitated before finishing. "Alexas' partner..?"
"Excellent detective work, Cpl Wells. Oh wait, you're not Corporal anymore, are you?" How did he know so much about me? He took off as soon as we jumped Alexa!
"You're probably wondering how I know all this? Well, I never left the scene, in fact, I was rather close to you and heard everything everyone said."
I put 2 and 2 together. And I felt like an idiot. He hid in the house the whole time we were busting Alexa, and I never thought of checking inside?
No wonder I got canned.
"How did you know I got fired?" I was genuinely curious how he knew that.
"Simple. I overheard you just moments ago, at Alexas' house." He explained.
"Well, what were you doing these past 6 months? In the next town or something?"
He paused before he began to explain.
"Well, now that you're… 'retired'... I suppose I'll explain. When you jumped out of the bushes, I ducked inside the house through the back broken window. For the next 3 months I stayed there at night. I did however wake up in the middle of the night because of sounds within the house, but there was never anything there. I eventually stopped sleeping there, and moved into the old house Alexa and I used for the Ditto breeding operation. Since nobody went there anymore because of the crime scene investigation, it was the perfect place to hide for a while, then I slept in alleys for a few weeks up until a couple days ago, when it was stormy." He took a second to let me take it all in.
"Fast forward to now, where I'm out for 'groceries' and we have a chance meeting." He finished.
It did kinda make sense. He wasn't caught in the house, and nobody thought to look there at all.
The only thing I have left to wonder is what would Alexa do when she sees him again?
And what his name is.
"Pardon me, I never asked your name?"
"Alan. Man, I haven't said my real name in months. Hard to believe I remembered it. After I went on the run, I had to go under a fake name. I can't remember them all, I had to change my name a lot."
That would explain why nothing has surfaced in the past 6 months about his location.
12:10 PM.
After an hour of us talking about pretty much whatever came to mind, considering I had no intentions of turning him in because it's been 6 bloody months and nobody cares.
We eventually hit it off and became sort of friends. We had no hard feelings, as I was only doing my job.
We parted ways and I headed to my interview, which went very well. He gave me the job on the spot because of my history.
All I did afterwards was browse the internet forums and blogs that looked interesting, then went to bed at 11:00 PM.
But in the back of my head, I thought that something bad was going to happen soon.
~END OF CHAPTER 2~
I know that it seemed rushed, but I couldn't do much more, I couldn't hold off on these things much more.
I had a few days of nothing on paper. Just played C&C Generals Zero Hour and PokeMMO. But I managed to get this out on time.
I will have the next chapter up in maybe a week, depends on how much I can get down on paper. I'm not setting anymore deadlines, because I have so much stuff going on in my life right now. Juggling school, friends and my gaming hobby and then this is a lot, so I work on the story when I can.
As always, leave a review, favorite and follow, it really helps the story!
IN THE NEXT CHAPTER:
Fair warning to all who don't like lemons, DON'T READ THE NEXT CHAPTER. The next chapter will be a rape lemon. Get used to lemons, cause in this story, we're making lemonade.
