It was a dark night in Jump City, and everyone was asleep. Even the villains and Titans were sleeping.
In Raven's room, the young Halfling demoness was dreaming about cheese. It was strange, but she dreamed about cheese a lot. She didn't know why, she just did. But even though she was dreaming, she was still a very light sleeper, and she felt a warm hand touch her cheek.
Raven's eyes fluttered open and she saw a sight that horrified her. Her father, Trigon the Terrible, King of Demons, was standing next to her bed, stroking her cheek. Raven was about to scream, when she noticed that Trigon had a kind and loving fatherly look on his face.
Maybe I'm just dreaming, Raven thought to herself. Trigon bent down and kissed her forehead, and Raven thought, I'm sure I'm just dreaming.
"I love you very much, my baby girl," said Trigon.
"Yep, definitely dreaming," Raven mumbled, closing her eyes.
When she opened them again, it was sunrise, and Trigon was definitely not there. There was no sign that he had been there at all… except a note and a purple rose on her nightstand.
Raven stared at the rose with wide eyes. In Pandemonium, the demon realm, a purple rose was a sign of deep remorse and a father's love for his daughter. The demon princess shivered involuntarily as she picked up the note. She unfolded it and read.
Dearest child of mine,
I am truly sorry for how I've treated you all your life. I never wanted to hurt you at all. Unfortunately, for the last fifty years, I've been a blood slave to a sorcerer. He saw you as a threat to his power, and wouldn't let me love you the way I should. He knew that you would be capable of freeing me from his power, so he made me hurt you. When you fled to earth, he made me hurt you worse. But when you fought back and defeated me, you destroyed him as well. And for the last six months I've been recovering, so I couldn't apologize for my actions. I never wanted to hurt you or your mother. I love you both more than I could ever love anything else in the universe.
I've been watching over you all your life. Even though you've always believed that I didn't care about you, I always have. I'd like to have some Father-Daughter bonding time with you. I'll be stopping by your room tonight at midnight.
I love you very much, Raven.
From, Trigon
Raven couldn't keep tears of joy from falling from her eyes. She'd always sensed that there was something off about her father's emotions. Whenever she was anywhere near him, she'd always felt misery radiating from him. Now she knew why.
Raven picked up the purple rose and smiled. She used her telekinesis to make a vase of water on her nightstand and put the flower in it. Then she went to breakfast.
