Link awoke with the rising sun. He groaned as he rolled over and stretched. He slowly sat up on the desert sand and leaned against the Gerudo Mesa.
Fi was suddenly standing before him, "Master, I suggest you get an early start on the day."
"I will," Link yawned, "Just give me a minute to wake up." Link stretched his arms over his head and slowly stood up. Traversing in sand was awful. He felt like he was hardly moving. "Hey Fi, I'm starved. Is there anything to eat around here?" Link asked a he rounded the Gerudo Mesa, walking out towards the rest of the desert.
"The Bulblins near the Arbiter's Grounds have a fire set up; it is possible they have some food."
"Thanks," Link said as he began to walk towards the light-spire in the north. He had no idea what awaited him inside the Arbiter's Grounds but Link would conquer it to reach the Portal. It would bring him one step closer to saving Zelda.
Zelda's prison door opened with a clang, awakening her. She slowly opened her eyes.
"Come with me," a voice Zelda did not recognize said. Remaining silent, Zelda pushed herself into a sitting position. She slowly got her feet under her and stood up, using the wall for support.
"Where are we going?" Zelda asked through grit teeth as she slowly walked towards the newcomer.
"The King would have a word with yah," the man said. The King? Surely he wasn't speaking of Ghirahim? Who in their right mind would allow a freak like him be King?
"Okay," Zelda said. "I apologize if I am a little slow walking. Something happened to me on my journey here and now I can hardly move my muscles," Zelda explained.
"I know, and I am sorry they have treated you like this," the man said.
"What?" Zelda said, surprised by the man's gentle tones.
"I'm from the Otherworld so I must be evil, right? Nah, but it does breed nasty beasts and monsters. But like everywhere in all the realms, there's both good and evil on every side."
"Like a coin," Zelda mumbled.
"Exactly," the man said, reaching for Zelda to help steady her. "So in this world of evil, I am your friend," he finished.
"Thank you," Zelda said with a smile.
"My name is Gondo, just by the way, princess."
"Thank you, Gondo," Zelda said happily as they slowly left her prison. She looked at Gondo in the light. He had broad shoulders and wore an orange shirt with brown pants. He had a mask-type hat on his head, covering the top half of his face. "So..." Zelda began. "Where am I?" Zelda inquired.
"You're in the palace of the Otherworld," Gondo informed.
"Where in the Otherworld are we though?" Zelda continued.
"I take it you weren't conscious during your travels here?"
"No, I was not."
"Then it won't help whether you know or not because you have no memory of the Otherworld; you haven't seen anything."
"Alright," Zelda accepted.
"There are some things I can tell you though. So long as you are in this palace, your magic is useless."
"Why?" Zelda asked. Her magic was her identity!
"I believe the Demon Lord Ghirahim cast a spell of sorts so that the palace would drain your magical abilities to fuel other magics in the Otherworld; like the magics of warlocks and mages, even himself."
"Oh," Zelda said, feeling breathless. At least that explained why she felt so tired and rundown. "What about you? What do you do for a living?" Zelda queried.
"I am a repair man of sorts. I also trained a little in blacksmithing."
"Blacksmithing? If you could get me a sword I would be forever in your debt!" Zelda begged.
"A lady using a sword?"
"I can fight." Zelda stated.
"I suppose I might be able to help you..."
"What do you need in return?"
"Nothing from you."
"But something nonetheless..?"
"I was captured and taken from my home in the sky of Hyrule to live in the Otherworld. If you get the chance to escape, please bring me with you," Gondo asked as they rounded a corner that led to a flight of stairs.
"I will," Zelda promised. Gondo smiled at her.
"Once we're up them stairs you will be out in the open palace. No more speaking like free people," Gondo warned.
Zelda nodded, "I understand."
