CHAPTER 1 (FINANCIAL PROBLEMS)
It was spring in the town of Elmore but traces of winter still lingered and showed no sign of leaving anytime soon. The sky was covered with dark and grey clouds which blocked the warmth and radiance of the sun; clouds bloated and constipated waiting impatiently to bring its harsh and unforgiving force of nature on the already gloomy looking Elmore citizens.
Bringing you to a house located in a suburban community which has seen better days in its time it has spent there. From a distance it would blend in into the peaceful and fairly middle class community undetected, the only thing giving it a sense of uniqueness is it's blue and white paint job, but if given a second glance you would take notice of how lifeless the blue has become almost turning a light shade of grey, with the white almost completely gone showing the now discolored wood underneath which shows swelling because of the damp climate, the front and back yard littered with untreated weeds and grass that has seem to have given up on living which only left patches in what remains of the lawn.
Anyone could see that this place is in need of renovation and better treatment, but anyone who gave a damn and who cared to pay attention would know who lived there and keep their distance, which they did either out of fare or hatred. The Watterson's known for their destructive nature, pranks and misdeeds which may not entirely be there fault but still a nuisance to deal with to the community but I digress.
Inside this highly avoided home lies a very specific character that is the main character in this tail, Gumball Tristopher Watterson a blue 14 year old blue cat.
Gumball was surprisingly awoken by his alarm clock, since usually he'd ignore it and wait until is adopted brother/pet fish Darwin to wake him up, but since recently the alarm clock has been malfunctioning thanks to Darwin's fish bowl water which constantly drips on it .
Now the alarm clock refuses to make its usual beeps and release two second interval now it only beeps once and sticks with it dragging to creating high ring that will drive a man to the wall (you know the sound you hear after an explosion).
Gumball then lazily sat up on his bed grumbling to his self he wasn't a really a morning person stressing and reaching over to the counter where the alarm clock was located, he hit the button were the shut off switch is but the ring still remained which annoyed the young blue cat to no end he pressed it again, then nothing, he tried again and again hitting faster and harder each time but the ring still remained, at this time gumball got furious he stood up in frustration and began starring at the at the digital clock like they were enemies 'for years ,balling up is hand into fists in is rage and frustration slammed on the clock silencing it while hurting his hand in the process.
"OWw! Well at lease it stopped ringing"
But his moment was shortly lived with a loud and obnoxious beep.
"COME ON!" gumball screamed to the heaven, he then turned to his still sleeping brother wondering how he can sleep through all this noise he was then brought back to is main objective with the ring finally giving him a headache he then turned back is attention to is tormentor picking it up and with a switch of the wrist it was flung with all is might to the hard wall surface smashing it to pieces, which made a loud crack and thud.
With silence finally being granted to the young cat he made his way to the remains standing over it with a look of triumph and thanks to it he's now fully awake, he decide he wasted enough time on this and headed to wake is rock of a brother, he turned around looked at Darwin's bowl to now see a wide awake and surprised Darwin.
"Dude didn't you hear that it sounded like something crashed!?" Darwin said while getting out of is fish bowl and hopping of the counter stumbling but caught his self before he fell, and made his way to were gumball was standing when he arrive he saw the now completed destroyed alarm clock, he then turned is gaze to his brother and noticed how proud he was over something.
"Um... gumball I know this a stupid question to ask but did you by any chance smash the alarm clock"? Darwin said Darwin with a raised eye brow and hidden annoyance.
"Yep". Gumball said not seeing anything wrong with breaking it while walking over to the closet to get a towel so he could take a shower.
This frustrated and annoyed Darwin even further.
"Gumball why did you smash the alarm clock"?! . Darwin said raising his voice at the blue cat's foolishness.
Gumball didn't like the way Darwin was acting over a defected clock that missed its expiry date a long time ago, but tried to keep calm since it was too early to start an argument.
"It wouldn't stop making noise and the buttons weren't working so I gave up and just threw it at the wall". Gumball said no really caring for the conversation one bit.
Darwin took notice of his calmness and decided to calm himself down since he didn't want be the only one shouting but still held the annoyed look.
"You know you could of taken out the batteries Right" now how are we going to get up in the mornings now I showed you this like two days ago". Darwin said is face turning from annoyance to disappointment.
At the mention of removing the batteries he faced palmed himself while cursing is forgetfulness.
"Ah man I totally forgot about that sorry dude. "Gumball said chuckling to his self while looking for his cloth he through on the ground last night.
"You know Ms. Mom his going to be mad you know we can't be so reckless has before since she lost her job at the factory". Darwin said dropping the argument since he still needed to get ready for school.
"Y…yeah sorry I sometime forget and um…Darwin you mine not telling mom about this please". Gumball said why looking Darwin with pleading eyes and robing is right shoulder.
"Why shouldn't I"? Darwin said while opening the door to the room.
"Because I'll tell her "Gumball said
"Really"? Darwin said questing if gumball would give himself up.
Darwin just nodded his head and said he'll give him until the end of the day then leaving the room and closing the door behind him. Gumball was now left alone in the room turning looking at the now unfixable clock still finding some way to bring him torment. After a few seconds pasted he decided to continue getting ready for school once again looking for is only wearable cloths and eventually finding them underneath the bed, taking his trade mark sweater in one hand and blue jeans in the next moving them to the only source of light in the room which was the window but since the sun was blocked by the dark grey clouds it only gave a dark grey shine through the glass window.
Which only added to the gloomy texture of is clothing, his sweater had clear visible stitching done to it to keep it together with loose thread coming from his sleeves, the once dark blue jean now losing its shine and now only looks like a pail grimace of its former self, the more looked at his poor excuse for clothing the more he'd hate the fact of wearing these rages in public especially when he's with his goddess of a girlfriend (his version at lease) Penny Fitzgerald a fairy shape shifter and longtime crush.
Removing is clothing from its gloomy lighting throwing them over his shoulder wanting nothing more than to chuck these thing in the trash, but knows if he does his mom gonna give a hear full or something worse, not hitting him well not yet anyways the last time it was pretty close when he broke the TV and she threw herself at him and holding he hands in the air in rage but held herself back since she didn't want to cross that line. Knowing that his mom might one day break and since she lost her job she seem a little more stressed made him tread more lightly with everything he did not wanting to anger her.
Opening the door to leave the room so he could take a shower, but noticed that is sibling were standing at the door waiting for who in the bathroom to come out, his sister Anaise was in the front, she was six year old pink bunny and incredibly smart for her age.
"Hey guys so who's in there anyways" Gumball said making his way to his siblings.
"Dad who else" Anais said leaning on the wall and letting out a groan of frustration.
"But didn't Ms. Mom say we should hurry up when using the bath since the water bill is getting too high" Darwin said while following his sister's lead and leaning on the wall.
"Well dad those have a lot of places to watch including is six chins" Gumball said imitating there dad's large body and when he's counting his many chins, earning a few chuckles from his sibling.
The bathroom door flue open silencing the few chuckles emitting from the children and revealing an upset and hurt Richard, who is a pink rabbit like Anais.
"It's five now I lost weight!" Richard said running to his room and slamming the door.
"I guess we kinda hurt his feeling" Anais said sheepily scratching the back of her head.
"Y…yeah maybe we should apologize" Darwin said still leaning on the wall.
"Well this only show's that "You" snooze you lose!"Gumball shouted running inside the bathroom and slamming the door behind him.
"Gumball!" Darwin and Anais shouted in unison banging on the now closed door.
Gumball ignored his sibling constant banging while patting himself on the back for r his cleverness, removing his boxers and making his way to the shower stepping inside the tub, turning on the posset and preparing the cold water to make contact with his body, but nothing came deciding to wait longer, standing there impatiently waiting for the water but none came.
"Damn…again" gumball said with frustration and sadness following slowly behind this has been the third time since week that the water's been cut off, because of the faulty pluming which they can't afford to fix.
Stepping out of the shower, putting on his boxers, grabbing his cloths and heading for the door opening it to see his still mad sibling.
"Gumball we were here fir-"but they were cut of mid-sentence.
"It's gone" Gumball said passing his siblings.
"What's gone"? Anais said folding her hands clearly still mad at gumball's recent stunt.
"The water pluming's busted again" Gumball said while putting on his cloth in the hallway.
"Again" Anais said unfolding her hand and anger replaced with disappointment.
"Well we can't do anything about it, we'll just use the school shower again "Gumball said making his way to the stairs with Darwin following closely behind, Anais just sighed and putted on her now pail orange dress and white shoes, following her brothers down the stairs.
Now dressed and making their way down the flite of stairs, to finally make it to the bottom and greeted with a dark living room with the only source of light emitting from the window which only gave a grey over view of their slightly damaged couch and destroyed TV, with everything else being out dated and in need of a upgraded they were used to this type of darkness since there light was cut off because they couldn't make the payments.
They left the stair and made their way to the kitchen with the same gloomy lighting has the living room, Their mother Nichol which a blue cat like gumball noticed there entry.
"Hey kids" Nicole said in her normal tone of voice while sitting at the table and reading the paper , going through the classifieds to see if she could find a job which she is desperately in need of. But with her and her families reputation it's hard to actually find anyone to actually hire her.
"Hey". They all said in unison taking a sheet at the table.
"So what for breakfast'' Gumball said in a cheerier one since this gloomy atmosphere was stifling.
"Um I couldn't do any shopping this week because we kinda ran through my saving on last week's expenses, but something might be the cumbered but I doubt it". Nichole said hiding her face with the paper trying to block her children sad and annoyed stares.
"Seriously! No no gumball just keep your cool, who knows you might find something good or even edible in those normally baron cupboards" gumball thought to his self while making his way to the cupboards, stepping on the booster stairs to reach the on Reagan able height of them.
Opening the doors to only see some hand towels and empty jars, seeing that this might be the only things up there his optimism and cheery outlook was about to kick the bucket, until something caught his eye in the far back of the poorly lit cupboard.
"What's that" Gumball said moving the hand towel to the side and moving his hand further into the cupboard, grabbing onto whatever he saw and pulling it closer to see that it was a box of un-opened cereal Daisy flakes to be exact on of is favorites, his sister gonna flip when see see's this.
"Yes!" Gumball shouted in excitement startling everyone in the process.
"What was that for gumball" Darwin said startled by his brother's outburst.
"Oh nothing just this!. Gumball said revealing his discovery to his siblings, which are now wide eyed and speechless of what his held in there brother's hand.
"H…ow di…d fi...nd" Anise stammered.
"What I think she's trying to say is how'd you managed to find That!" Darwin said trying to contain his excitement.
"Well when I was up there and saw nothing but some hand towels and empty jar and was about to come down I saw something at the back but couldn't really see what it was so I grabbed it and well this is what I got" Gumball said while getting three bowls and the remaining milk from out of the cooler since the fringe aren't working since there's no power.
Placing a bowl in front of each of his sibling sharing out the cereal and pouring the cool milking on them. This made a familiar aroma that brought back Anise from her trance.
"Ok guys let's do this on three". Gumball said grabbing is spoon and setting in a starting position which everyone else slowly followed behind.
"Ok one" gumball said
"Two "Darwin said brining is spoon closer to the bowl.
"Three" Anise said and with that they all dove in using there spoons has shovel stuffing there face, but has quickly has they shoveled in the cereal just as fast they spat it out covering the table with spit, milk and cereal.
"Gauh this doesn't taste like daisy flakes at all". Anise said using her hands to wipe of the offending taste of her tongue.
"It tastes like cardboard". Darwin said following his sister actions in removing the taste from his tongue.
"It tastes like Crap". Gumball said pouring himself a glass of milk to get rid of the disgusting taste.
"Gumball what have I told you about using that type of language". Nichole said glaring at her him for his choice of expression.
"But it's true". Gumball said defending himself.
"Just hand me the box please". Nicole said still annoyed but dropping it since she didn't want to argue so early about moral decency with her son.
Taking the box, she began scanning every inch of it looking for the expiry date, eventually finding it and releasing a heavy sigh in the process.
"No wonder it tastes like that guy's it's pasted its expiry date three month ago". Nichole said with a heavy lump forming in her throat from guilt and disappointment.
"I know it was too good to be true". Anaise said with tear beginning to form in her eyes.
"Oh Anai-". Nichole tried to say but was interrupted by a loud crunching sound coming from across the table.
Looking up seeing gumball taking spoon full after spoon full of his cereal one after another then swallowing and taking is family aback just like when he ate that raw potato in the episode "Hero".
"You know it's not that bad when you get past the spongy taste". Gumball said taking another spoon of the expired cereal.
"Gumball-"Nicole said but was interrupted once by another loud crunch coming from Darwin.
"Yeah he's right it might taste like cardboard now but give it a few seconds and it tastes just like daisy flakes "Darwin said following his brother's lead taking another spoon of his stale cereal.
With her brothers new found reaction to the cereal peaking Anise curiosity, wiping away her forming tears and hesitantly picking up a spoon of her now soggy cereal, only to projectile spit it out.
"You gust are idiots this tastes afoul" Anise said violently rubbing her tongue against her hands.
In the process earning laughter from her two brothers while spitting out there cereal, some gushing out of gumballs nose making her laugh at her brother's stupidity, while motioning the bowl to her mother.
"Common mom try it." Anise said in between laughs.
Nichole staring at the bowl, then her kids seeing attempting to holding in there laughter waiting for their mothers reaction, with a heavy sight and a big breath she picked up the entire bowl placing all the content between her cheeks looking much like a sequel and spitting them out on the table, getting cheers and even louder from everyone also sending her in fury of laughter has well.
Making the once gloomy atmosphere being for forgotten and being replaced with the joy of laughter, but was interrupted by a loud honking coming from the front yard.
"Kid looks like the bus is here" Nicole said getting up and grabbing the hand towel out of the cupboard, handing it to gumball so he could wipe of the milk off is face.
"Ok". They all said at once finishing up with wiping of their faces and grabbing there bags heading for the door.
"And uh Gumball" Nicole said calling her son before he could close the door.
"Yeah" gumball said inches away from closing the door.
"Just wanted to say thanks I really needed that" Nicole said warmly.
"No prob". Gumball said smiling back at his mom and closing the door stepping out into the cold winds heading for, hoping that this day would go smoothly even though he know they never are.
