Ummm, heh hey, HOD. I'm sure your looking for a reason why this is so late, and by late I mean A FREAKING MONTH. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Well both Amy and I have had problems, Amy with her printer and me with Writer Block. Don't expect for that second one to change anytime soon and we weanted to give our sincere apologies. But enough of that, Chapter 2 full steam ahead choo choo
Dusk was fast approaching when the Jedi shuttle arrived on Coruscant. Chiyon thought he had seen the most beautiful sight in the galaxy when the shuttle jumped into the blue tunnel of hyperspace, but Coruscant proved him wrong. He couldn't get over just how big Coruscant was. Well, of course it's big, you d***, he chided himself as the shuttle gracefully approached the Jedi Temple. It's the capital of the entire universe!
In the distance, the Temple stood tall and slightly intimidating, with the domed structure called the Senate building not far behind it. Its five spires towered over any other skyscrapers Chiyon could see. He couldn't stop staring at the place that he would now call his home with both awe and trepidation - come now, Chiyon was nine. You can't blame him for being at least a little scared - as Master Ronan landed on a small landing platform outside one of the grand walls.
Once the small party walked down the ramp, Riyo bent to ruffle Chiyon's hair. "This is where I leave you, little cousin," she said. "I'm not allowed into the Temple."
Chiyon didn't like this idea. They'd only just arrived, and now Riyo was leaving?
So it was a relief when Master Ronan spoke up. "Nonsense," he said cheerfully. "As a Senator, you have the right to enter the building at any time should you ever need the services of the Jedi. Besides, we will need to visit the Council to give our report."
"Very well." Chiyon could tell that Riyo was struggling not to burst with happiness. She managed to keep a straight face, though, for it would not do if a Senator was unable to show restraint.
"Shall we get going, then? The Council will be expecting us."
"Of course, Master Jedi."
With that, the three stepped off the hangar and into the Temple. Chiyon gawked at everything they passed, from the gargantuan statues of ancient times to the Room of the Thousand Fountains they passed as they walked down the richly colored corridor. At last, they reached the lift that would take them to the Council, and Master Ronan pressed the button that would take them to the top of the tower.
When the lift opened, Chiyon found himself facing a set of closed doors. "Now, it is important that you allow me to do the talking," Master Ronan instructed Chiyon, "unless the Council specifically asks you a question. Understood?"
Chiyon could only nod, overwhelmed at the day's events.
"Relax. I can sense your anxiety." Master Ronan smiled. "Don't worry. You will do fine."
Chiyon looked over at Riyo, who beamed at him and gave him a quick side hug. He felt better after getting the seal of approval from her.
The doors opened, and a voice called them inside, saying, "Enter."
Chiyon took a deep breath before entering the Council chambers after Master Ronan. He was once again awed by the grandeur he was met with inside. The chamber was circular, just like the rest of the tower, with what looked like a lotus emblem on the floor and a circle of chairs surrounding the lotus. Chiyon counted twelve chairs.
The young boy then turned his attention to the dark-skinned man who had called them inside. The man looked rather stern, and Chiyon couldn't help wondering if he was anything like Chairman Cho.
"Master Windu," Master Ronan said, bowing to the man. "We came to deliver our report on the Senator's trip to Pantora."
Master Windu nodded. "Continue."
Master Ronan did so. "As suspected, the Separatists must have a spy within the Senator's inner circle. There was no way anyone but her staff or her family could've known of her trip to Pantora; it was a closely guarded secret."
Master Windu turned to Riyo. "Your thoughts, Senator?"
Riyo's yellow eyes flashed. "I believe it would be in my best interest to leave the plans with you until the time comes to present them, Master Jedi. Perhaps once the spy discovers that these plans are missing, they will realize I found them out and hid the plans."
"There has been no violent action taken against the Senator, Master Ronan?"
"No, Master. Not as of yet."
Chiyon looked on with interest. He had not been aware that Riyo could be in danger and found the concept rather frightening. Why someone would want to kill cousin Riyo was beyond his young mind.
"...and I ask that the Council would test him and, if he is found to be a promising youngling, induct him into the Order."
Chiyon blinked and looked up, noticing that all the people in the room were staring at him. Master Windu cleared his throat. "What is your name, young one?" he asked.
Chiyon gulped. "Chiyon Chuchi, sir."
Master Windu nodded and retrieved a holopad from the side of his chair. "Chiyon, I am going to give you a quick test," he explained. "I will ask you what object is on the screen, and you will tell me. Is that understood?"
Chiyon nodded shyly, and Master Windu turned on the holopad and proceeded to give Chiyon the test.
When the test was completed, Master Windu conferred quietly with the other people in the room, including a small green alien who had not been introduced. Then he turned back to Chiyon, Master Ronan, and Riyo. "We, the Jedi High Council, have found Chiyon to be a promising Force-sensitive and therefore induct him into the Thranta Clan of the Jedi Order. Welcome, Chiyon."
Master Ronan, Chiyon, and Riyo bowed once more before backing out of the chamber. Once the doors closed behind them, Riyo embraced Chiyon. "Congratulations, cousin!" she exclaimed happily.
Master Ronan, smiling, escorted the Pantorans back into the lift. "You and I will be returning to the Senate building after we drop off Chiyon," he told Riyo, who rolled her eyes. Master Ronan sighed at the response to his statement.
Once they were off the lift and back in the corridor, they ran into a girl with light brown hair and green eyes about Chiyon's age. "Hi, Master!" she called, waving. "Who's this?"
"I'm Chiyon," Chiyon said.
"Yes, this is Chiyon," Master Ronan reiterated. "He will be joining you in the Thranta Clan, actually."
"Really?" The girl gave Chiyon a big smile. "It's always nice to see a new face! I'm Dana, by the way. Dana Fairbrooks."
"Nice to meet you, Dana."
Master Ronan spoke up. "Listen, Dana. I need to return Senator Chuchi here to the Senate building; do you think you could show Chiyon to the Thranta sector and acquaint him with everyone?"
"Can do, Master. You can count on me."
Chiyon looked up at Riyo, who was already being led away by Master Ronan. She shrugged helplessly, winked and mouthed "good luck" to Chiyon before she disappeared.
Dana didn't notice this exchange. "Come on," she said, tugging on Chiyon's elbow. "Let's go meet everybody."
Chiyon allowed himself to be led away through corridor after corridor and room after room until Dana stopped in front of a wall with a sort of winged lizard painted on the wall. "That's a thranta from Alderaan," she said when a confused expression crossed Chiyon's face. "I guess you could say it's our mascot."
"Oh."
They went through the door and were immediately ambushed by a group of kids. "Dana, where've you been?" a boy with auburn hair and dark eyes asked.
"And who's this?" a Miralian girl with striking purple eyes and black hair pulled back with a headband inquired.
Chiyon, overwhelmed, let Dana do the talking. She seemed perfectly happy with that arrangement. "Master Ronan asked me to show our newest clan member around," she said proudly. "Everyone, this is Chiyon Chuchi."
Chiyon waved shyly. "Hi, guys," he said. A chorus of "Hello, Chiyon" was the response.
Dana seemed satisfied with that. "Chiyon, this is Roark, Max, Aaron, Yuyang, Viola, Morty, and Erica," she said, pointing to each clan member as she named them.
Once introductions were finished, a Nautolan spoke up. Chiyon was pretty sure Max was the Nautolan's name. "Have you met Yoda yet?" he asked, sparking a murmur across the group.
Chiyon shook his head. "Not yet. Who is he?"
"He's our clan master," Viola, the girl who'd spoken earlier, said, "and he's tough, too. We're very fortunate to have him - some say he's the greatest Master of them all! He works us really hard."
Chiyon was interested, but Dana spoke up again. "It's starting to get late," she said. "Maybe we should go to bed."
"But I'm not tired!" Max complained. The rest of the room giggled.
"Say the opposite to Master Yoda when he wakes you up tomorrow and see what he does," Aaron, a tall boy with a dark complexion, dark hair, and dark mischievous eyes said, sending the room into full-out laughter.
Max ducked his head, embarrassed. "On second thought, maybe I could use some rest."
After more discussion, it was decided that, since Max and Aaron had an extra bed in their room, Chiyon would share with them. The two boys helped Chiyon make up his bed with blankets taken from the linen closet in the hall and offered to show him more of the Temple the next day.
At last, the three boys calmed down and slid into their respective beds. Before Chiyon fell asleep, he stared up at the ceiling for a while. This is really happening, he thought. I'm going to be a Jedi one day.
With that happy thought etched in Chiyon's mind, he drifted off to sleep, already dreaming about the amazing adventures he would one day have.
