Days after getting out of the hospital, Dino was certain he didn't need to be looked after; he was functioning just fine on his own despite his injury. Kyouya, however, seemed to be taking the responsibility of looking after him quite seriously, even going as far as to making the blond meals; Dino didn't have the heart to tell him that he couldn't cook, instead forcing down every bite with a fake smile plastered on his face when instead he just wanted to throw the food out the first chance he got.
"Cavallone."
Looking up from the laptop he had been writing student reports on, Dino looked over at Kyouya, finding the other walking into the room with two cups of tea in his hands. Reaching out, he smiled as he took one cup. "Thank you, Kyouya."
Glancing over to the window, Kyouya sighed. "They're here again."
Looking out to the street, Dino shut the lid on his laptop before pushing it off his lap and moving to unlock the front door. "Behave, Kyouya; they're both probably going to be stressed as it is."
Kyouya shrugged, taking a seat on one of the chairs so that he didn't have to share with anyone. He watched Dino take his place back down on the couch, wishing he had a good novel to immerse himself in for a while; he wasn't looking forward to seeing Squalo and Belphegor again, not after hearing what their attacker had to say – they had almost gotten him and Dino killed.
When the front door opened and the two walked in, Kyouya sent them a glare before he turned his attention to the window once more, focusing on the rain that was pelting down outside, the trees that swayed in the violent wind; anything but the two guests.
"Voi, Bucking Horse." Squalo stopped in front of Dino, deep bags darker than usual beneath his eyes. He held Belphegor's hand firmly in his good one, his new prosthetic dragging through his long locks of hair. "That Sawada brat slipped up and told Bel what happened. Bel told me. Why didn't you ring me?"
Sighing, Dino lifted his gaze to meet an exhausted one. "Because I wasn't sure I was ready to talk to you again or not."
"The fuck?" Feeling Belphegor pull his hand from his, Squalo paid the younger no more attention as the boy wandered over to Kyouya. "What did I fucking do?"
"Did you really sell us out?" Speaking in a quiet tone, Dino wasn't sure he wanted to hear the answer; if Squalo said yes, he wasn't sure he would be able to handle it.
"What?!" Squalo couldn't help but scream, angered that someone could think so low of him; he was a lot of things, but he wasn't one to stab his friends in the back – that was more of what most people seemed to do to him. "Who the fuck said shit like that about me?!"
"When we were attacked… He said you didn't do anything to help Bel… That you only fought back because they were going to hurt you next… And that when he ran away, you were about to tell them where I lived, but you ended up passing out…"
Grabbing a chunk of Dino's hair, Squalo raised the other's head so that he could punch his friend as hard as he could in the face. "And you believed that fucker?! I would have thought that after ten years, you'd know me better! No, I didn't do any of that shit! I couldn't do anything to help Bel because I was too fucking busy trying to get those fucks off myself! How do you think I lost my hand?! It wasn't from fucking sitting there, I assure you! And like hell I'd have told them where you live! I muttered the first number to come to my mind because I knew that if they thought I was about to tell them, they'd stop with the beating and I could pass out in peace! You should fucking know me better, Bucking Horse! They said shit to fuck with your head! They fucked with mine and Bel's, too! They told me they gave Bel an STI, and I had the brat checked out and he hasn't tested positive for anything so far! I bet the future tests will all be negative, too!"
"…" Dino lowered his head again, knowing he should never have doubted his friend; there was so much people could say about Squalo, but if there was one thing they always failed to see, it was the fact that the long-haired man was one of the most loyal people one could ever have a friend, and Dino had been so wrong to doubt that. "…I'm sorry."
"You'd fucking wanna be; I'm not in the mood for people dragging my name through mud more than they already do." Throwing himself down onto the couch, Squalo looked around to find where Belphegor had wandered off to. To his surprise, the younger blond had dropped his mink to the ground and was bothering Kyouya, pulling at the skylark's hair and biting him, and as angry and tense as the skylark looked, he hadn't so much as said anything – Dino really had been doing a great job with him, because if this were not even a month ago, Squalo would have been mopping Belphegor up from the ground by now. "Bel, no biting."
Belphegor blinked as he turned around, looking back at his guardian. He frowned, still holding locks of dark hair. "Squa…"
"Come back here, brat." Hugging the boy tight when Belphegor came back to his side, Squalo turned his attention back to his friend. "How's the injury?"
"Yeah, it's healing just fine, really. Kyouya's stayed with me since hospital; he's been looking after me."
Snorting, Squalo shook his head. "Someone has to look after you; you'll fall and break your neck if left by yourself for too long."
"Thanks for the confidence boost…" Looking over at Kyouya, Dino smiled as he found Kyouya picking the mink up, letting it sit in his lap. He frowned as Belphegor started writhing and protesting, but with a bit of careful discipline from Squalo, he quietened down, even if he still made whimpers of upset; he didn't like others touching his pet, not wanting them to hurt it.
Looking between Kyouya and Dino, Squalo couldn't help but let his usually-hard gaze soften; he had been so against their relationship because of his own hatred and anger towards his uncle, but even he knew that the blond had been honest and genuine when he said he loved Kyouya and didn't want to hurt him – he would never had put himself into the position of being shot if he didn't, after all. He hadn't liked the idea of his best friend being someone like his uncle, but like Dino had doubted him after what people had said, he himself had doubted the older male because of someone else's actions.
Squalo knew Dino better than anyone else, and he had been wrong to even think the blond would do anything to Kyouya, because Dino was much more than some dirty pedophile like his uncle had been; Dino was a caring, honest person who looked after everyone around him.
"You…" Looking away, Squalo scratched at his cheek in discomfort. "…I, uh… I was wrong… About you and that brat…"
Shaking his head, Dino wrapped his arm around Squalo's shoulders. "I guess that makes us even, huh? Don't worry about it, Squalo; we each made mistakes."
Nodding, Squalo looked down at Belphegor, finding the boy mouthing at his shoulder slowly, a sure sign that he was getting tired. "I'm crashing here for a while; I hate long drives…"
Dino didn't mind; watching as the long-haired man stood up and headed towards Belphegor's room, he then looked over to Kyouya, finding the other still immersed with the mink. "I'm glad you didn't do anything to Bel; you seemed a lot more patient than usual with him. He was looking for a fight, too."
"Don't get me wrong, Cavallone; I would have punched him had he kept going for just a minute longer."
"I know you would have, but I'm glad you didn't, Kyouya." Standing up, Dino approached the younger. He leant down, pulling his boyfriend into a tight hold. "I love you so much; you always make me happy."
"Hn…" Looking away, Kyouya couldn't stop the blush from coating his cheeks. "…I… like you, too…"
Chuckling, Dino kissed the other's cheek, pleased with the response; it was as close to a declaration of love as Kyouya would allow himself to say for now, and he would be happy if that were all he were to be told; he loved the younger so much, he found what he was hearing absolutely adorable.
