With all the votes, I've decided I'm going to do a joint of 1 and 3, so it will probably be longer then I thought it would be. Just a warning, I'm not very familiar with american high school, and I honestly thought that american high school seemed to make the most sense. If I get anything mixed up or wrong, I apologise, as I only have my high school years in Britain to work off of, but I will be using a bit of my first day in high school to base around what happens. Oh, and I've also decided to keep the authors note up, as a summary of what this is, and so you guys who voted for this one shot can actually review and vote for the next one. :)
My Little Hiro
"Are you sure about this Hiro?"
That question snapped him back to reality. Was he really sure about this? Hiro had been sure at the time, when they'd asked if he wanted to skip the last three years of elementary. He'd always been ahead of everyone else, finding all the work he was given to be child's play, while the other children struggled.
It had always been clear that he was different from the other kids, his intelligence beginning to rival that of his sixteen year old brother. But nothing could have prepared the ten year old for this day. Even with the confident façade he had spread across his face, Hiro knew that his brother could see how nervous he was.
"For course I'm sure, why wouldn't I be? It's just high school" the boy told the brother that was fussing over him as they waited from the back of the car.
Tadashi looked at his stubborn little brother, before cautiously saying. "But that's it, it's high school. Are you sure you're ready for this? You're going to skip 3 years of your life that you'll never get back." He was concerned for Hiro, the Hamada might have been smart, but try as he might, Hiro was still ten, and high school was a big step for someone so young.
Hiro glared at him, before huffing. "You want me to go back so people can teach me stuff I already know? I'm not a little kid."
Tadashi couldn't help but chuckle at that, reaching a hand up and ruffled the boys hair. "That's where you're wrong, knucklehead. You are a little kid."
Another few minutes of waiting, Hiro's heart starting to beat faster and faster in his chest. Why was he so nervous? It's just school, just like elementary.
But he was nervous, fears were filling his head, of people picking on him, laughing at him, making him feel alone with the walls closing- "Hiro!"
Again he was snapped out of his phase by Tadashi, who was calling him to get out of the car. That was the second time that Hiro had zoned out in that one car trip, what was he thinking about? The older brother understood that Hiro would be nervous, but he didn't know how much. The kid was normally so easy going, cheeky and confident, but today?
Hiro bit his lip, unbuckling his seatbelt before stepping out of the vehicle and said goodbye to Aunt Cass, watching as she drove away, leaving her two nephews infront of the high school.
The place was daunting, and huge. It was definitely bigger than Hiro's elementary school. Steps led up towards two doors leading into the hallway of the school, with the words 'San Fransoyko High School' carved above them into chiselled stone walls. The place seemed to be mocking him. It made Hiro want to run back to elementary school where he was safe, where he knew about his surroundings. He gulped thickly, frozen in the spot by his nerves.
Tadashi began walking forward to step up the steps, but stopped when he didn't hear his brother running after him. He glanced round at Hiro seeing how scared and nervous he looked. He didn't try to drag him up the stairs, or snap him out of it, he just slowly and carefully walked back to the small boy, crouching down so he was at Hiro's height.
"Hey, it's going to be okay, okay? It's not elementary anymore, your in my school now, and that means I'm here for you. If you're ever nervous, or scared, and need someone to talk to, I'm here. You're going to be okay. Like you said, its just high school." The teen spoke softly to his little brother, choosing every word to comfort Hiro, and it seemed to have worked. Hiro didn't look as bad as he had a minute ago. He looked more relaxed, but was still a little nervous.
"Thanks Dashi." Hiro murmured as he smiled slightly at his brother, who had now stood up again and was offering him a hand, which he swatted away, glaring at the Hamada and huffing. "But I'm not a kid, so don't treat me like one. I can walk on my own."
Tadashi chuckled at his little brother, it was always so amusing when the kid tried to act older than he was. Tadashi took one more glance behind him at Hiro, before stepping up the first step and nearer to the school.
Hiro hurried after him, glancing around at the other freshmen who were coming up the steps and into school, some running, some just walking, all of them were at least a head taller than him. It made him realize just how small he was compared to everyone else, and his nerves started to act up. He quickly grabbed hold of Tadashi's hand, staying close to him as they entered the building.
The laughter and cries of teens were enough to jolt Hiro's fears into action, but he tried to keep a clear mind. Paper airplanes flew through the corridor and a few kids were playing catch with a scrunched up note. Tadashi glanced down at his nervous little brother, trying to reassure him over the noise of the hallway as the teen walked the boy to his homeroom, where Hiro was to be given his period timetable and other important information.
On the way, Tadashi made sure to show Hiro where all the important places were, cafeteria, computer rooms, sports courts, etc. He tried to keep it simple, though he knew that Hiro would understand everything he said, after all, the kid was here three years early for a reason. But the kid was really nervous today, and Tadashi understood that he might not be at the top of his game.
When they arrived at the homeroom, Tadashi winced as Hiro began to tightly cling to his leg, his breathing starting to quicken. "Don't worry, just be yourself." He whispered to his tense brother. "Just be my little Hiro."
At that, the ten year old's breathing seemed to slow, returning to its usual pattern and the tightness around Tadashi's leg was released as the senior opened the door for his brother, who glanced up at the older whispering his goodbye. "Bye Ni-san." Before stepping into the room, with Tadashi closing the door behind him.
"Bye Otouto"
If there was anything to say about what happened when Hiro stepped into the room, it was that it got really quiet. All of the kids had stopped chatting and getting to know their new classmates, glancing at the small Sixth grader who had just walked into the room. Some of them gave a shrug, deciding he just looked younger and hadn't had much of a growth spurt yet, while others looked really confused, as they could tell he was younger than them.
Hiro took a deep breath, before walking over to a empty seat and put his small navy rucksack on the ground, before sitting on the seat.
After the initial shock of seeing the small kid come in, most of the kids had gone back to acquainting themselves, but a few hadn't. A few had started giving him hard stares, a few with a look of disgust on their faces, Hiro tried to ignore them and concentrate on relaxing himself. I just need to cope for twenty minutes, then Tadashi's going to come and walk me to my first lesson.
Some of the intimidating looking boys in the class looked like they were going to pounce at him at any moments, but luckily the teacher walked in before they could. She looked quite average, but had a cheery quality about her. She had tanned skin, with a slim body and strawberry blonde hair that hung loose over her shoulders. She also wore a pair of denim trousers with a plain red shirt on, nothing too extravagant but nothing too formal.
The teacher introduced herself to be 'Miss Down' and she started with the register.
"Aika Bunko?"
"Yah." Said a bored looking Asian girl with her feet up on the desk, twirling a bracelet around her finger.
"Jared Escott?"
"Here!" Announced a boy who seemed to make all of the girls giggle.
"Hiro Hamada?"
Everyone stopped and stared at Hiro again, but Hiro was sick of being stared at so it lifted his head from his desk and quickly answered. "I'm here!" He said loudly to show the others that he wasn't just some nervous little kid.
Miss Down smiled slightly at him and nodded, but just as she was announce the next name, someone interrupted her. "What the hell is a toddler doing in our homeroom?" Someone blurted in annoyance.
The voice had come from one of the boys that Hiro had noticed glaring at him when he first came in, and he'd instantly known they were trouble. The boy was quite broadly built, with short brown hair that stuck out of his head like spikes.
The teacher smiled at the boy, though she already knew it wasn't a friendly question. "Why from what I've been told, Hiro here was allowed to skip some of his school years and come straight to this school. But I'm sure Hiro knows more than me, Mr...?"
"Thrift. My names David." The boy grunted. "But I still don't see why we need to have a little baby in this room with us, he might need his diaper changing."
If Hiro was holding a pencil, he would have snapped it in half. All of the nerves that had been choking him since the morning he woke up had evaporated into thin air. He jumped out of his seat, glaring at David Thrift. "I'm not a little baby! I'm ten, not two! I'm here because I'm way smarter than you, so don't treat me like I'm a dumb kid!" He shouted at the top of his lungs.
Hiro's best attempt at a come back didn't even seem to effect the bully. He gave a grunt, slow clapping as Hiro's face turned red from all the yelling. Hiro's eyes widened, before he sat down again, his head banging on the desk, the teacher must hate him now. What a great start. Way to go Hiro.
But instead of the teacher telling Hiro off like he'd expected, she looked sweetly at David, before saying. "Now now, we don't want any bad air in the room. Mr Thrift, I'd like it if you didn't pick on Hiro just because of his age, or at all for that matter. This school doesn't take too kindly to bullies, and neither do I."
Thrift just gave a eye roll, muttering under his breath as the teacher continued with the register.
The rest of the school day was decent enough for Hiro. He got the occasional stare from other freshman in lessons, but mostly everyone had just accepted the fact that a little kid was in their year.
Hiro's nerves had completely vanished by the second lesson, as he was in his element. Whenever the teacher asked a question, he'd always be the one to put his hand up, ignoring the mutterings of 'nerd' and 'freak' under peoples breath.
Tadashi was happy to see the improvements in his brother, glad that he had got used to the reality of high school, though he was making sure to keep an eye on the boys that seemed like a threat to Hiro's well being. He could tell a few boys were trying to bully Hiro, but he wasn't going to let that happen. That's not going to happen to my Otouto.
By the end of fourth period, Hiro felt confident enough to walk to his last lesson on his own, so Tadashi had broken off from him to go to his own lesson in the opposite direction to him, leaving Hiro alone, vulnerable.
No sooner had Hiro turned a corner, someone slammed into him, making him cry out and fall to the floor, his vision blurred from the impact. In the seconds after the incident when his eyes refocused, he realized who it was who'd knocked him over. Non other than that rotten lad called David Thrift. Hiro steadily got to his feet, trying to ignore the bully and keep walking, but the teen blocked his way. "So you're smart huh?" The boy grunted. "Then why don't you prove it by doing my homework for me."
Hiro looked at David, shaking his head firmly and shrugged, he wasn't going to loose his cool. "Nah, I don't think I want to."
The teens eyes narrowed, and Hiro knew he'd said the wrong answer. "Is that really where you're going? Trying to act tough while your brothers not around to protect you? I'll ask you again, and you better give me the right answer. Are you going to do my homework or what?" The words were dark and threatening, leading shivers down Hiro's spine, but Hiro wasn't going to be afraid. He looked around to see if anyone was walking past, no one. Where is everyone? There's got to be someone to do something. When there was no hope of a rescue, Hiro felt like there was nothing better to do than saying.
"What."
Hiro didn't even register what happened next before it had actually happened, as it happened so fast. The brute glared at him, eyes still narrowed before swinging a punch that connected with Hiro's face.
The pain was extraordinary, more than anything he could have imagined, but he knew it was mostly from the shock of it. No permanent damage had been done, hopefully, but his left eyes vision had already spiralled into blackness, he only hoped that it wasn't forever. Hiro's body was knocked into the lockers by the punch, the force of it so hard that he knew his back had been bruised. Hiro's already damaged body was struggling to comprehend what had just happened. The boy was hunched slightly as he struggled to gain his bearings, his left eye closed as it was too painful to open, and when he did, he couldn't see anything anyway.
But Thrift wasn't done yet, punching the ten year old a second time, this time right in the gut. Hiro wheezed, his legs buckling beneath him from the impact, sending his body slamming into the cold floor. He gave a slight moan, glancing up to see David chuckling at his misfortune. "That's a warning, next time will be a whole lot worse if you don't say what I want you to say. See you later brainiac." Hiro watched helplessly as the bully walked away, leaving him wounding and in pain on the floor.
Hiro woke up coughing in his bed, but he didn't understand when he'd went to sleep. Every movement hurt, though it was just from the ache of waking up. As he opened his eyes, he noticed his hands were trembling, violently. Tears started to stream down his face as he remembered the events of the previous day. Or was it just earlier that day? Hiro didn't understand, and he didn't care. He started crying, almost choking on his own tears, but then he heard the rush of feet sprinting over to him, and a familiar sensation as arms wrapped around him, one of them going to ruffle his hair.
"It's okay.. It's okay.. Don't worry bonehead, it's just a silly little nightmare, nothing to worry about." Tadashi. Calm started to fill Hiro as his brother soothed him. Had it really just been a nightmare? Had that whole day just been a trick?
"You have me worried there for a minute Otouto, but you're okay now, I'm here." Tadashi soothed him, every word chosen to perfection.
"Lets get you back to sleep, you don't want to miss your first day of high school, do you?" He whispered, before tucking the boy back into bed and ruffling his hair one last time, Hiro's sobs had calmed now, only a few tears were left dripping down his face. He didn't bother answering, he was just happy Tadashi was there for him, because he knew Tadashi would always be there for him, so he closed his eyes again.
"Stay away from those nightmares okay, knucklehead? Just remember to be my little Hiro."
I'm not to sure about this one, honestly I felt like I made Hiro too nervous in that, even he is ten at the time. So what do you think of my first one shot? Do you think I made Hiro and Tadashi a bit OOC, or not? I'd love to here if I didn't completely mess this up. And what did you think of the twist at the end where its all a dream? I know, not exactly the most shocking thing out there, but I came up with it at the last second and figured I'd give it a shot. I'm also worried I went a bit Hidashi in some parts of this. I really hope I didn't, as I only think of Hiro and Tadashi as brothers, and nothing else.
Okay, so enough wittering on, but make sure to tell me what you thought about this one shot in your reviews, and this is the next three ideas
1 - Hiro upgrading his suit. (Kept this as I have some good ideas for this)
2 - Hiro first finds out about bot fighting. (One reviewer mentioned that maybe I could use this in the high school one shot, but I figured that would make it too long, so I'm putting the idea here if anyone wants me to write it. Credit to jackaroo126 for the idea)
3 - Hiro and Baymax switch bodies. (Okay, this one is a little weird. Heck, this one is basically all for laughs, I had a thought about this before I went to sleep, and all I dreamed about was Baymax running around speaking full of emotion and panicking while Hiro walks around speaking really monotone and trying to get Baymax to calm down while walking like a penguin... Yea... Well, I put this one here anyway, so if you feel like having a laugh, vote for this one. Don't garuntee any of it will make sense, or how on earth it would even happen. But whatever. XD)
And also, while writing this oneshot, I starting thinking about something, especially when Hiro got punched in the face. I'm wondering if I should do a story about how Hiro was actually blind the whole time throughout the movie, and Tadashi was the only one to know. (and Baymax because, duh, he can scan Hiro and find out.) What do you think? I probably wouldn't do it for a few months, but would you read a fanfiction like that? I'd really appreicate it if you give me your thoughts on this. And would you think it would be better if the fanfiction started at the start of the film, or after the end of it?
Til next time, goodbye!
