Hawke quickly summoned a fire storm onto her enemies. Making quick work of the fighters that had been charging her. She threw quick fire bolts at the man attacking Isabel, before getting hit square in the chest with an ice bolt. It hurt but she got back up and saw them, blood mages. Having been the only mage in her group the blood mages quickly targeted her and threw most of there attacks and creatures at her. She did well, switching between magic and physical attacks that Fenris and Isabel had showed her. That didn't mean she didn't get her fare share of cuts and bruises.
When the fight was over Hawke slumped to her hands and knees panting, she was bleeding in a few spots. Nothing that would kill her but enough that hurt. She felt his presence before he placed a hand on her shoulder gently, he sat down next to her, he was hurt as well. They all where.
Varric was the first to talk. "You would think your title would scare them off not attract them."
"They are just mad. The qunari are making people nervous."
Hawke could see the familiar twitch in Isabella' s stance, a twitch that showed when ever the qunari were mentioned. She didn't say anything, knowing full well the pirate would not say anything she didn't want to.
"It's only going to get worse. Tensions will bubble up and boil over soon at this rate. Something needs to happen Hawke." She turned to look at Fenris. He was right, something needed to be done. Why her, why did it always come down to her.
She exhaled sharply and stood up."go home. Get some rest." Tomorrow would be busy, she knew what she was going to have to do and she didn't much look forward to it.
Isabella and Varric headed toward the hanged man, Fenris stood up and looked at her. "This will not end well." She simply nodded and grabbed his hand.
They walked silently. Back to her home, they didn't say a word to each other. Once there he pulled out the first aid kit she had stowed away and they went to her room locking the door.
"Why the hell am I going after some stuck up kid!" She grumbled storming off to there destination.
Fenris, isabell and Varric chuckled following behind her, Fenris smiling. Varric looked at him, noticing the look in Fenris' s eyes. He knew that look. He couldn't help but smile, they deserved each other for sure. They both shared that flame inside them.
Hawke stormed her way threw the building, knocking into a few people as she left. It was obvious she was in a fowl mood. She had been in one ever since her mother passed. It was like this anger followed her around, an anger that pushed Anders and Merill away. She no longer carried the patience for their nativity and they could since it. Anders took it hard and rarely left his clinic, only to silently follow Hawke when she did ask for his help. Which was a rare happening since she had learned the basics of healing magic.
When the arrived to the wounded cost her shoulders dropped from their clinched state like they always did when she saw the ocean, something about it always seemed to calm her.
"You know love you would make an excellent pirate." Isabel teased like she usually did when Hawke stared silently at the waters.
"A better one then you?" Hawke smirked in response.
Isabel grabbed Hawkes hips from behind and whispered in her ear "oh the things we could accomplish together my dear, the gold we could collect just using fear itself."
Hawke froze, what was it about Isabel that made everything seem so grand, maybe Varrics story telling skills were rubbing off on her. She knew they worked on a book together, one with rather detailed scenes. She figured she had developed the skill. "Oh yes a mage on a wooden ship in the middle of the ocean. One fire ball could end the hole adventure. Not much fun." She grabbed Isabels hands and spun her around and dipped her down and smiled "besides you would distract me to much." Hawke stood them up straight and walked toward the winding path that was the wounded coast, taking her staff off her back, her new one had an axe at the end that she enjoyed the weight of.
Fenris watched the show with mild amusement, watching isabels distraught look as Hawke walked away. He knew that was just how they were, no real meaning behind there taunting other then joking or seeing who could make who more uncomfortable. He also knew there was an attraction between the two. Hawke had informed him of this but also said she would sooner eat horse manure then take it seriously. He trusted Hawke...He had to.
Hawke suddenly froze and held a hand up to indicate that they should stop as well. Which they all did while getting ready for the ambush they all knew was coming. It was a group of qunari and they said nothing just attacked. Hawke got the blunt of it for she was in front and Fenris tried to fight his way to her to protect her but there was very little he could do. They were to strong so he focused on those around him hoping Hawke could handle what was thrown at her.
Hawke was surrounded her physical and magical attacks coming to use but she could only handle so much and it wasn't long before she hand to use mind blast and cause it to rain fire. That's when she used the new spell. Tossing two qunari into the air before slamming them down to the ground. It always caused a weird adrenalin rush when she used that spell.
Isabel and Varric held up there end well, Isabel keeping the qunari busy and away from varric while he and Bianca shot them down.
It was a tough but quick battle. Hawke and Fenris looked at each other to make sure each was safe before Hawke turned her attention to their companions "is everyone o-AH!" She fell to the ground hands quickly going to the arrow that had gone threw her left thigh. Blood quickly pooled in the sand, but that wasn't what Fenris focused on it was the human woman that they had run into before.
"I told you not to get in the way." She waved before disappearing.
Fenris cursed before going to Hawke. Who had already broken the tip of the arrow off and started wrapping bandages around her leg, the bandages quickly turning red. " Hawke we need to get you back to town."
She shook her head "Isabel Varric scout ahead take care of any obstacles you can. Fenris help me up we will trail behind taking care of what ever those two leave behind." As she gave orders she finished her work on her leg having wrapped the bandages tight enough that the blood had slowed down its gushing. They all froze in place not sure if they should listen to Hawke or take her to a medic "NOW!" Hawkes hands caught fire and Isabel and Varric shot ahead weapons ready.
Fenris huffed and stared at her a moment more before helping her up. That's when he heard her crying. It shouldn't have surprised him, she had suffered a major blow too the leg but she rarely cried and it wasn't a thing he was used too. It was a soft sound more a gasping then actual tears though there were plenty of those. "Hawke let the other group get the boy you need help."
"That bitch shot me, she isn't winning anything against me." She wrapped her arm around Fenris's shoulder and his arm went to her waist.
Fenris was always in awe of how stubborn Hawke was, and how it so easily seemed strong willed of her. "Ok just take it easy." They easily moved with each other, Fenris held her up with one arm and his sword with his free hand. Hawke held her staff with her free hand. Fenris wasn't custom to holding his sword with just one hand, let alone his left. He wasn't sure if it was simply Varric and Isabel hadn't run into anyone or they were dealing with everyone. He didn't have to worry long, they walked toward a group of dead qunari riddled with arrows and covered in smoke dust. Hawke knew how to rally them up that was for certain.
Slowly but surely they met up with the others, Varric was talking to a Qunari. There was a human boy behind him that he assumed was the boy they came for.
Varric turned to look at them "ah loom here she is now. Hawke there seems to have been a misunderstanding. The kid wants to be here."
Hawke eyed the group of qunari and then her eyes fell on the boy. "Why?" It wasn't judgmental or accusing, just curious. Pure curiosity.
This seemed to throw him off and he fumbled around words before standing straight "They are my friends, kinder to me then my father." He spat the word.
Hawke looked to the Qunari Varric had been talking to "will he be safe?"
"As safe as any of us."
Hawke looked up silently as she thought, everyone's eyes on her, she could feel them waiting for her to make some profound choice, one she shouldn't be making. This was between father and son not her. "Fine. If this is what you want."
Fenris noticed it first, Hawke was getting ready to attack. Which baffled him. It took him a moment to notice that her staff wasn't pointed at the qunari but the cliff behind them. How could she always tell when they would be attacked. Fenris gave a knowing look to the others in their group.
Hawke shouted "DOWN!" She barely gave the qunari and the boy time to duck before she shot a fire ball at an unseen target that started to scream ad they caught fire. That's when things exploded into action. That's when she narrowed into the woman who shot her and pointed her staff at her. She said nothing just cast ice around her freezing the woman's boots to the ground. Hawke gave a wicked smile as the woman tried to get to her. Hawke threw a bolder at the woman knocking her unconcious. She looked around and saw the dead humans and Qunari. It shouldn't have gotten here.
The boy sobbed over a dead body.
Hawke no longer had the patience for the situation, she quickly killed the gang members left, including the woman who shot her.
"Come on you and your father need to have a conversation."
"I could honestly care less I did my job, I am not here to make your families choices." Hawke looked at Fenris and he knew that ment she was done. So they left. Fenris hated to do it but she needed his help.
"Where are you taking me?" Hawke looked at him, not having the balance to stop his leading.
"You need his help. You are still bleeding."
"I do not need the help of an ignorant mage who believes war is our only chance." She had sounded strong as she began to spoke but he could hear her loosing her determination as she realized her position. "Fine."
It was tense in the clinic for no one spoke. Anders worked on Hawkes leg with out much encouragement. Before long her leg was healed and she was standing testing it.
"Hawke...May I speak to you in private." Anders didn't look at either, he knew they would share a look. He knew of course of their...closeness. He was not blind to it like the others and he figured it was because he had originally thought Hawke would choose him. That seemed like the fantasy of a child now.
Hawke nodded "yes anders but make it quick." Fenris took his Que and went to stand outside but near the door. He crossed his arms and watched them talk. It was the only privacy he was willing to give that abomination.
Fenris could tell that what ever they spoke of upset her, she leaned on her right leg, obviously still favoring her left. She shook her head looking down, it was clear to him she wanted Anders to stop talking, how could the mage be so ignorant to the body language of a fellow mage. Finally Hawke raised a hand to stop him obviously turning down what ever the abomination had to say. He could see the hurt in Anders eyes, for a brief moment he felt bad for the abomination but it was short lived.
Hawke turned around and walked toward fenris. He noticed the limp but said nothing. He did something very unnatural to him, he reached for her. He needed her touch, to show the abomination that Hawke was his. He desided he was done hiding their relationship. He was done pretending.
Hawke smiled and took his hand. After a day like today, she needed the comfort of his presence. When he leaned down to kiss her she couldn't help feeling surprised but she gladly kissed back.
