I am so sorry! I realized while rereading part of the story that when I went in to correct a few spelling mistakes I must have reuploded chapter ten twice and I can't find chapter 11 anywhere so I will have to rewright it. I don't exactly remember what happened but I will just have to make it work and hope I don't miss something important. Enjoy!
James hurriedly stepped into the bathroom and got into the shower. He let the hot water run over his face as he tried make his spinning mind slow down. What could she possibly want to say to him? Did she come here to tell him of about Sirius? Or did she just want to blame him some more for the whole Snape thing? Or maybe, just maybe a small voice in his head said, she didn't want Marcus Jonas after all, maybe she had come here to say that she wanted James. He quickly tried to shake that though out of his brain, it was not going to happen, he told himself.
As he got out of the shower he got dressed and took a second to look at his reflection. This was going to be alright. He slapped himself lightly on the cheeks and muttered "Game time, James." Under his breath.
As he stepped out of the bathroom Lily stood up, looking very nervous.
"So do you want to do it here or do you want to…?" He gestured lamely with his hand as to indicate them leaving the room. He could hear how incredibly lame he sounded and mentally kicked himself. Why did she have to have this effect on him?
"No lets go for a walk." All Lily could think about was how she needed to get away from Sirius and his hatful glares and maybe then she could figure out what to say. Even after James ten minutes absence she had no idea how to start this.
"Yeah sure!" James said and stepped out of the room after her. He felt a small smile creep up onto his face. He was thrilled that Lily had actually sought him out.
They stepped out of the portrait hole and went down a few corridors but Lily still had no idea how she was going to do this.
James decided that maybe she needed a little help along the way and said:
"It's not that I'm not enjoying this glorious silence but was there something you actually wanted to talk about?" His tone was jokingly and the question was accompanied with his trademark smile.
"Yes sorry." Lily said blushing. She was a Gryffindor for Pete's sake, she shouldn't be this scared! She drew in a deep breath, gathered up her courage and dove in.
"I wanted to apologize about what I said to you, about ruining my life. I'm sorry I snapped at you, I really shouldn't have said that." Lily said all of this in a rushed tone and when she had finished she didn't dare to look at James.
Had she looked at him however she would have seen a dumbstruck expression on his face.
"Don't worry about it." He said, grinning foolishly. "Can I ask you something though?"
"Yeah, sure" The knot in her stomach had unraveled itself in less than a second after he forgave her, and she felt immense relief at how easy it had been. Why had she dreaded this so much?
"Did you mean it?" James didn't quite manage to look at her as he asked the question.
"Mean what? The apology?" Lily said, sounding confused.
"No I know you apologized and that's good and all. I was just wondering if you meant what you said, about me ruining your life, and you're just apologizing for the fact that you told me so much to my face." The words where a bit rushed and mashed together and, as he did when he was nervous, James ruffled his hair while waiting for her answer.
The question took Lily of guard. He sounded really worried about her answer and when she looked at him he lacked all of the confident demeanor the regular James Potter owned. Did her words really carry that much weight with him?
"No, of course I didn't mean it. I was having a crappy night and I just wanted someone to scream at and you were an easy target. It was cruel of me." Lilys tone was serious and the guilt in it could easily be heard.
"Well, all right then!" He said grinning broadly.
James felt as though his heart might sore out of his chest. Lily didn't hate him. Lily didn't think he had destroyed her life. He knew he was still far away from getting her but this felt like an incredible step in the right direction.
They walked on in silence for a while before James spoke again.
"Why was your night so bad?" Remus had told him she was patrolling with Snape that night and he figured he had made her upset somehow, but he wanted to speak with her about it. Her relationship with Snape had always intrigued, and greatly annoyed, him.
"I was patrolling with Severus." She said in a crisp voice. James knew that probably meant she didn't what to talk about it, but he really wanted to know more so he pressed on.
"Did he say something that upset you?" It was none of his business and he knew it, but he just couldn't help himself.
"Could we not talk about it please?" Lily asked in a hard voice.
"Sure, I just have one more question?" James said quickly, knowing he was threading on dangerous ground. "Why where you ever frien-" He got cut of when Lily turned on him and said:
"No! We will never ever talk about him, understood?" He voice was sharp and her eyes had flames in them. She could barley bring herself to talk about Severus with Rosanna and Alice, and she was definitely not going to do it with James Potter. She had always hated the questions that her friendship with Severus had brought along, and she was not going to take them from the boy that had been a big part in said friendships abrupt end.
James looked into her eyes for a second and could obviously tell that she was not messing around so he nodded and said:
"Understood." And they started walking back to the common room again.
When they were nearing the portrait hole James wanted another question answered.
"Can I ask you something else?" Upon seeing the look upon her face he quickly added: "Not about Snape."
"Sure." She said, feeling a little wary of what might come next.
"What is going on with you and Jonas? " Yet again he knew he had not right to ask but it was killing him not to know. "Is he your boyfriend or what?"
"…I don't know exactly what we are." Lily answered after a few moments hesitation.
"Oh." Was all James could think of as a response.
"But we did make out." Lily had no idea what compelled her to say this. It was inappropriate and definitely not any of James's business, she just felt like he had a right to know.
"Oh." He said a second time.
He had quest that much this morning but hearing her say it was a whole other matter. The idea of Lily Evans and Marcus Jonas almost made him feel sick. He imagined them wrapped up in each other's arms, Marcus hand making its way into those gorges red lock and her sweet lips tightly pressed to his. The brief image made him feel like someone had knocked the wind out of him.
"Well…" Lily said awkwardly, "Good night then." She gave him a small wave and left for her dormitory.
"Sweet dreams beautiful." He said, in a barely audible whisper, that he had no idea if she heard.
I hope you enjoyed it, even if you didn't I would really love a review if you could spare a minute or two. Stay awesome!
