"So I was wondering," Lily said, "Are you free next Friday? Slughorn is having a party and I was hoping you would be my date?"
Lily was strolling down the corridors hand in hand with Marcus. They had been at it for about two hours, just wandering aimlessly around the castle talking about everything and nothing, kissing as soon as they appeared to be alone.
"I would love to Hun, I think I have quidditch practice though," Marcus answered, "But I'll talk to James, we can usually skip one when we don't have a match coming up."
"Great! I've never had a real date to these things, it'll be nice to feel like one of the cool kids." Lily joked and gave Marcus hand an extra squeeze.
"A real date?" Marcus continued in the same joking tone, "Have you had many fakes?"
Lilys mood dropped instantly but she tried to keep the smile in place, "I usually went with Severus but you know…" Her sentence trailed off.
"Oh yeah right, sorry," Marcus said rather awkwardly, "You're making your super potion tomorrow, right? How are you feeling?"
Lily chuckled at the phrase 'super potion'.
"Yeah it's tomorrow," she answered, still with a small smile left on her lips, "It feels fine, if it goes well maybe it can be like some sort of closure. Now everything is just hanging in the air every time we meet."
"Okay, but if it doesn't go well you just have said the word and I'll beat him up, remember that."
Marcus lent down and kissed her on the head and she laughed, she'd never been this comfortable talking about Severus before, it was nice, no judgment.
"I had something else I was wondering to," Lily said after they'd walked down a couple of more corridors.
"Go on." Marcus pressed.
"Amanda Bylie asked me if you were my boyfriend during herbology this morning." Lily said casually with an almost smug smile. She had liked that question.
"And what did you say?" Marcus tone and smile matched Lily's perfectly.
"I said yes." Lily had a small knot in her stomach but she still felt rather sure Marcus would approve of the answer.
"That's nice." He kept up the casual tone but Lily could hear the evident pleasure in his voice. "The way she gossips the whole school probably knows by now," He said and laughed.
"Is that good or bad?"
He stopped, turned to face her full on and looked her straight in the eyes, "That's great. I want the world to know that you are mine." He lent down and pressed his lips to hers. At that moment Lily Evans was about as happy as a sixteen year old girl can possibly imagine.
Thursday morning came and went, and so did midday. Lily was starting to get nervous, and when they girls saw what she was eating for dinner, nothing, they felt like it was time to intervene.
"Lily, relax, everything's going to be fine. Have some meatballs." Alice cited.
"What am I going to say to him? It will be so awkward." She ignored the meatballs.
"You need to decide what you want Lils." Rosanna chimed in.
"What do you mean?"
"Do you ever want to be friends with him again? Can you ever forgive him?" Rosanna managed to keep the reproof out of her voice.
Lily took a deep breath and answered.
"No."
When she said it she felt the truth behind it, and she felt a small acceptance starting to grow in side of her.
"Good," Rosanna said, "Then try not to think of him as 'Sev' anymore, just see at him like any other Slytherin that you have to make potions with."
"No internal jokes, no eyes meeting, no apologizes, no nothing." Alice added, "Okay?"
"Right, thanks."
"Good, now eat your meatballs."
Seven o'clock sharp Lily entered the potions classroom, Severus hadn't arrived yet so she got out the necessary ingredients and then sat down on one of the benches. She felt her hands starting to sweat and her stomach twisting. She kept repeating her dinner conversation to herself, he is just another Slytherin, they are not friends, just another Slytherin.
After waiting for nearly fifteen minutes Lily decided to start without him. She didn't know if she was more relived or annoyed that he hadn't showed.
Seven thirty-five, just when Lily had begun feeling confident that Severus wouldn't show, he came crashing in, soaking wet and panting.
Before he had caught his breath Lily simply stated:
"You're late," she felt really annoyed but tried not to let it be heard, "You could start hacking the dragon liver."
Severus looked at her, with something resembling puppy dog eyes.
"I'm so sorry, I left with plenty of time and then I-"
"I don't want to hear it Snape," Lily snapped, "Just cut the dragon liver."
"Snape?" The insides of Severus stomach turned to ice and his voice whimpered.
"Just cut the dragon liver." Lily sighed.
Severus went to stand next to Lily and started chopping a liver Lily had laid out on the table.
"It was the Marauders" Severus whispered, "they caught up with me in the corridor and-."
"I don't care." Lily interrupted angrily, "Just work so we can get out of here."
They kept going for another hour before there was nothing more they could do for now, they put away the potion and packed up their things.
"Next week, same time?" Severus asked.
"Try to be here by seven," was all Lily said before turning around and leaving a hurt Severus hating the Marauders more than ever.
So what did you think? Tell me in a review! I know it was awhile since the last one but I', just swamped! Stay awesome!
