When Lily stepped into the great hall for breakfast she didn't take her usual seat next to Rosanna and Alice, she just waved and instead sat down next to three of the marauders, Peter wasn't up yet .

"Good morning," She said with a smile, she was a little nervous.

"Morning," They answered in a choir, all looking slightly surprised.

"Remus, do you have a date for the party tonight?" She tried to sound casual, but didn't quit pull it off.

"No, as a matter of fact I do not." He said smiling at her.

"Do you want to go with me?"

Remus swallowed hard and looked quickly at James, whose jaw had snapped together audibly.

"As a friend thing," she added quickly.

"You've gone to these parties solo many times, right? Why do you need a date this time?" He didn't want to turn her down and hurt her feelings but he knew that James would never forgive him if he went on a date with Lily, even a friends date.

"I may or may not have snapped and told Severus that I was going with the marauders. Sorry." She said quickly, she didn't really want to admit that she was that petty.

"Why?" Sirius laughed, for some reason he found it hilarious.

"I just wanted to shut him up so I said the most hurtful thing I could think of, I'm nice like that." Lily tried to say it in an offhand kind of way but her blush ruined it.

"That is far better than anything we could ever do to him, thank you!" Sirius still chuckled.

"Anytime Black."

"I'm not actually sure I'm going tonight, but I'm sure James could go with you," Remus tried, "Or Sirius," he added, just to make it less obvious.

"Yeah sure, if you really need me." James said and winked at Lily. She half smiled at the setup, it was a nice try.

"You have practice tonight," She reminded him.

"I can cancel it, I'm captain." He said eagerly.

"Isn't it a super duper important practice?"

"Fuck, yeah you're right," James cursed, "Then Remus will go with you." He figured it was better to let his best friend go with her than someone that might try something on her, and it would piss Snape of.

"You don't have to if you don't want to." She said to Remus.

"No of course I'll go with you, it'll be fun." He said with a smile to her.

"Great, meet me in the common room at seven?"

"It's a date," He answered but after looking at James face quickly added: "Sort of, anyway."

"Bye." She said and walked over to her friends again.

"Unbelievable!" James said as soon as Lily couldn't hear him, "I ask the girl out for four years, and she asks out Mooney!"

"Sorry mate, I tried." Remus said apologetically.

"It's fine, just… you know, don't do anything" James said weakly.

"Of course not!"

"It would be way more fun it she was going with you Prongs, can you imagine snivellus face it you two came together!" Sirius added.

"It would serve him right," Remus said rather uncharacteristic, "How's you face?" He asked James.

"It's fine, don't worry about it."

"What was that about?" Alice asked as soon as Lily sat down next to her.

"I asked Remus to be my date to Slughorns party." Lily answered and started buttering a toast.

"What! You can't ask Remus out!" Rosanna almost yelled.

"It wasn't like a real date," Lily started but then asked "Why not? He's really nice and so sweet."

"Because he's one of James best friends." Rosanna stated.

"So? I don't own Potter anything." Lily retorted.

Rosanna just looked at her.

"What? Just because he asks me out sometimes doesn't mean I can't date whoever I want."

"Yes, it means you can't ask out his best mate."

"Fine, I guess you have a point, but it wasn't like a real date. I just told Snape I would go with him because Marcus is busy."

"What's Snape got to do with it?" Alice asked.

"Nothing really, it's kinda complicated, all you have to know is that I'm going with Remus to the party tonight as friends."

"You defiantly could do worse," Rosanna joked, "he is probably like an animal in bed, the quiet ones always are."

"Rosanna!" Lily exclaimed and lightly smacked her friend on the arm.

"You know it's true." She said and winked.
