So sorry for not updating, I just haven't had any motivation to wright at all. I realized this chapter was basically all dialog, it's just so much easier to wright. Hope you enjoy it anyway. Stay awesome! And just a small reminder, I'm not J.K and I don't own her characters.

The party was what you could expect, classy and expensive, filled with people with pricey watches and stuck up looks on their faces. Lily had been to quite a few of Slughorns parties so she knew what to expect and had actually learned to enjoy them. Remus on the other hand had ignored most of his invitations and was wearing a look of great uncomfort.

"Come on, it's not that bad." Lily said with a smile and shoved Remus lightly on the shoulder.

"Lily it's horrible! Most of these people seem awful."

"Most of them probably are." Lily agreed, "But after being friends with Potter and Black for six years you should be used to awful." Lily joked.

"They really aren't as bad as you think." Remus said more seriously.

"Yeah yeah they are great." Lily sighed and rolled her eyes.

"No, that's not what I'm saying, they can both be prats but they are really truly good hearted people." Remus had many times tried to change Lilys view of his two best friends, without great success.

"If you say so." Lily said without taking it in.

"Lily!" Slughorn was making his way towards them with a serious looking man in his fifties right behind him.

"Hello Lily, dear, I don't believe you've meet my good friend Nicolas Trent, head of st Mungos, I thought you might be interested in chatting with him." Slughorn always introduced highly ranked people to Lily at these kinds of events, but Nicolas Trent held a special interest for her, she was dreaming of becoming a healer.

"It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Trent, my name is Lily Evans and this is Remus Lupin." She put on her most professional and polite smile and shook his hand, trying to get the exact right amount of pressure.

"Nice to meet you to Ms. Evans, and you Mr. Lupin."

"Lily here is my absolute brightest pupil!" Slughorn boasted of her like he was her own mother, "And Mr. Lupin isn't far behind," he added a little halfheartedly, mostly to be polite.

The conversation was going great, Slughorn had even left them to talk alone after 10 minutes, something he only did when he was confident his students would still be impressing even without him bragging.

"Why are you so interested in becoming a healer?" Mr. Trent asked after learning about Lily's dreams.

"My father died a little more than two years ago, and found myself wishing I could help people from having to go before their time." She tried to say this without sounding naïve or childish.

"I see, I'm sorry for your loss. "

"Thank you, sir."

"May I ask what he died from? Just out of professional curiosity."

"Of course." It didn't seem like an appropriate question but she wasn't likely to refuse the head of st Mungos anything. "He died from cancer."

"Cancer? That is highly curable for a healer." He looked very confused.

"Yes," Lily agreed, "But not for doctors, I'm muggelborn. "

"Oh," Mr. Trent expression changed into one of chock, "Horace didn't mention it."

"Well, I am." Was all Lily could think of to response.

"I should probably move on, it was nice meeting you Ms. Evans, and you to Mr. Lupin." And with that he practically ran away from them.

"What just happened?!" Remus looked furious.

"I guess someone doesn't like muggelborns." Lily said trying to keep the sadness out of her voice without fully succeeding. "It's fine, it happens sometimes, don't worry about it."

"Lily you really shouldn't have to put up with that kind of stuff."

"I don't really have a choice, let's just move on." Lily said and put on a smile. "Please?"

"Sure, what do you want to do?" Remus said, he tried to put away his anger for her sake but he really hated prejudices.

"I want to dance!" Lily said and her smile grew wider.

Severus sat a couple of tables from the dance floor and glared intensely at Remus Lupin. He didn't hate Lupin the way he loathed Potter and Black but he was a marauder and, what's more, he was dancing with Lily.

He watched them sway to the rhythm of the music and Lily twirling and laughing at something Lupin had said. He closed his eyes and remembered when that used to be him. He remembered the last time they had danced together, it had been at a party just like this one, about five months ago. He remembered how soft her waist had felt under his hand, how good she had smelt and how she had laughed after he had twirled her six times in a row.

Had someone told him then that she, in less than half a year, would be going to Slug club fests with a marauder he wouldn't have believed it.

"I'm starving!" Remus said after Lily had forced him to dance, four songs in a row.

"You're so boring!" Lily laughed but did as her friend wised and went of the dance floor.

They made their way to the food table where Remus stuffed his plate full and they sat down on at table.

"Hello guys!" Suddenly James Potter was sitting next to them, out of nowhere.

"What are you doing here?" Something about him being here annoyed her. "Don't you have quidditch practice?" She sounded way too hostile but she didn't really care.

"Yes I had, but it's over." James was taken aback by her tone.

"So Marcus is here?"

"No, I don't think so." James started to get irritated with her. "What's up with you?"

"Nothing's up. Where is he?"

"I don't know!" He snapped at her.

"Should we try to keep things pleasant?" Remus tried.

"Sure." Both Lily and James muttered in unison.

"How did practice go?" Remus tried to make small talk.

"Fine." James said shortly. "Is Snivellus here?"

"Don't call him that." Lily snapped.

"Why not? He deserves it."

"No one deserves being bullied."

"I'm not bulling him!" James temper was starting to rise.

"What do you call it?"

"God Evans, do you have to be so uptight?!"

"Do you have to be so cruel?" Lilys temper was now matching James.

"Hey guys, can we please calm down?" Remus tried to get his friends to keep their cool.

All the response he got was two heavy, angry humps.

"To answer your question: Yes Snape is here somewhere." Remus said.

"Why do you want him?" Lily asked suspiciously.

"I want to beat his head in." James muttered.

"We just want to talk." Remus intervened.

"Why?" Lily asked.

"He kind of attacked to us yesterday, and we just want to talk to him." Remus explained.

"Yesterday? When?" A bell was ringing in her head.

"About six a'clock, why?"

"Because I met a very happy Snape at seven." Lily sighed, she knew Severus wasn't the guy she wished he would be but she didn't think he would actually be happy over hurting someone else. "Maybe you're not the only one that's cruel."

"Oh thanks a lot." James said ironically.

"Look, there he is." Remus pointed, Severus was just a couple of tables away. "Let's go."

The two boys rose and for half a minute Lily considered staying in her seat but, of course, she followed them. The three boys stood to far away to really seem to be having a conversation.

"Just back of, okay?" James practically growled. "You don't want to mess with us."

"Is that a threat Potter?" Severus answered with the same hostility.

"Yes Snivellus, it is." James spit back at him.

The two boys both drew their wands at the same second, and Lily felt it was time for her to intervene.

"Hey guys, calm down." She tried to sound strong and empowered , "Wands away!" She ordered and stepped in between him.

"Get out of here Lils!" Severus said and tried to push her aside.

"Get off of her!" James shouted and tried to step in between Lily and Snape.

Something about that action, Potter trying to protect Lily from him, made Severus see red. He couldn't believe that Potter actually thought Lily needed protection from him, it should be the other way around. Before he had time to think about it his fist collided with Potters face and not much later he felt something hard making his cheek feel like it was on fire and something knocking the wind out of him.

Suddenly, without really knowing what had happened, Lily was squeezed in between two teenage boys throwing punches at each other.
