The common room was nearly empty when James reached it, the only people there were some third years and, to his great joy, Lily. She sat cuddled up in one of the armchairs reading a much worn out book. He approached her slowly and greeted her with a small "Hey."

"Can I help you?" She asked sharply with raised eyebrows.

"I'm really sorry Lily, the fight was stupid and I really hate that I hurt you." He said, and Lily could see the serenity I his eyes. "You think you could forgive me?" He didn't mean to sound like he was pleading but in truth he guessed he was.

Lily sighed deeply, closed her eyes and her eyebrows pulled together into a sad frown. When she opened them again her piercing green eyes found his and held them for a couple of seconds before she spoke.

"It's fine. " She bit her lip and it looked like she was thinking about adding something but thought better of it and just added: "Don't worry about it."

James could feel his curiosity blazing up but he contained it. He sat down on the armrest of the nearest couch and gazed at her briefly, she looked tiered and still wore the sad frown. His hand longed to reach out to her face and stoke it away. Instead he tried to think of something that might cheer her up, and his eyes landed on the book on her lap.

James had many times seen her light up when talking about litterateur, he had never understood it but he loved to see it happen so he asked:

"What are you reading?" He rejoiced to see a small smile creep upon her face even though a small crease between her eyebrows remained.

"Romeo and Juliet." She answered and gently stroke the book with her hand. When looking closer James saw that the book was about to fall from its covers, it looked old and well read. Maybe it was one of her favorites.

"What's it about?" He wanted to know why this book seemed to fascinate her.

She looked up at him with a puzzled expression.

"What?" He asked.

"You've never heard of 'Romeo and Juliet'?" James felt like he was missing something.

"No, should I have?" Lily kept her puzzled look for a moment more before looking like she realized something and a slight blush appearing on her face.

"No, I'm sorry, it's a muggle book. I forgot you wouldn't know about it." She sounded a little embarrassed.

"No worries," He said with a small laugh, "Are there a lot of things like that? Muggle things a pure-blood wizard wouldn't understand?" He asked, suddenly very interested.

He had never thought about it, he knew she, as a muggle-born, sometimes missed references to magic persons and places, but of course it had to be the other way around too.

She laughed lightly before answering. "Yeah, there are a lot of things wizards don't know about the muggle world."

"Well then, tell me." He said with a charming smile. "What's the story of this Romeo bloke and that chick?"

"Romeo and Juliet." She said with another small laugh. "It's an old play, actually. Romeo and Juliet are from two different families, who really hate each other, but Romeo and Juliet fall in love anyway and so when their families find out everything's becomes really complicated. It ends with Juliet taking a potion that makes her look dead, and Romeo accidently find her like this, and so he takes his own life. When Juliet wakes up and finds her bellowed Romeo dead besides her, she too takes her own life." She and told the story animatedly and ended the retelling with a smile and a light in her eyes.

"Why would you enjoy reading that?" James asked curiously, "It just sounds sad."

"I don't know." She said thinking, "I guess I like their love. I think true love should be worth dying for."

James felt his stomach drop and a small shiver go over him at hearing her words. Looking into her eyes he knew true love was worth dying for, and he once again, realized that he truly did love this petit red head in front of him.

"Have you ever been in love?" James felt as soon as he said it that it was a way to personal question for him to ask but he couldn't truly feel he regretted it.

Her blush reappeared and once again a small frown adorned her face. For a second she looked like she wasn't going to answer but then she slowly shook her head in and said: "No, I haven't."

"Not even now? With Marcus?" This was definitely too personal but he really wanted to hear what she'd say.

"Butt out Potter!" She said, not harshly, but still making it clear that she was not going to discuss it.

He laughed easily, and couldn't help adding one more comment.

"If you were my girlfriend, I would never let you attend a slug party alone just so I could get wasted." He said winking at her.

Seeing the expression on her face he felt it might me a good idea to leave her alone before she could start yelling at him. The full moon was tomorrow anyway so he really should be getting some sleep. He got up, stretched his arms slightly, and before she had come up with something to respond with, he had started walking away from her.

Before reaching the stairs leading up to his dorm he turned around.

"Goodnight love." He said in a deep husky voice, leaving her furiously blushing.

Lily sat for a while just thinking about their conversation, first about how inappropriate he was at the end but then, as her mind wandered, she started to think about love, and then the muggle world, and then about Marcus and then back to love. Her mind was racing, she'd had a long day and figured it might be best to go to bed before her head exploded.

In the morning Lily woke up late. She stretched slowly and rejoiced over the fact that it was Saturday. She looked at the clock, 10:37. Breakfast ended in23 minutes so she got up and went down to the great hall. Marcus sat alone looking miserable, cringing as some ravenclaw boys laughed loudly one table over.

She sat down opposite to him and greeted him with a thigh smile. She didn't want to be mad at him but couldn't quite manage to act like nothing.

"Hey babe." He greeted her, "Look, I know I should have shown up yesterday, I was really stupid. Are we cool?"

He sounded sincere but Lily wished he would actually apologize and say the words "I'm sorry" but realized that may just be petty so she forced on a smile and said: "Yeah, we're fine."

"What's your plan for today? I was figuring maybe you would like to study with me? I'm kind of behind in potions and I was hoping you could help me." He smiled at her and took her hand.

"That sounds great." She said and felt her anger melting away.

The two of them spent most of the day studying in the library. Marcus was sweet and charming the whole time, kissing her sweetly when no one was looking and holding her hand as often as he could, and the previous night was all but forgotten.

They parted after dinner. Lily spent some time with Alice and Rose before she had to go on prefect patrol. She went down to the great hall where she was supposed to meet her fellow prefect, a silly girl from hufflepuff. After waiting for 20 minutes Lily figured she wasn't going to show up so she started the patrol alone. Everything seemed to be in order, the halls were quiet, the only sound being her footsteps echoing in the large corridors.

After an hour and a half, when she was nearly finished, she saw light a shining through the window, when looking out she saw there were two figures standing out on the grounds. She went out to investigate and as she approached the two figures she could hear that they were arguing loudly.

"What the hell was that!?" A voice that Lily recognized immediately shouted.

"Just shut up and move it Snivellus!" A small knot formed in Lily stomach. She recognized that voice too, even if she had never heard it so furious or so panicked. Something about a panicked James Potter made Lily feel nervous.

"This can't be good." She thought to herself before going over to them to find out what was going on.

In the distance she heard a wolf howling.
