Friendship: Goodbye my Lover
Disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail

You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your hand.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I've been addicted to you.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.
(Goodbye my Lover ~ James Blunt)

The funeral for Juvia Loxar and Lucy Heartfilia was sad. It was raining, as if a tribute to the rainwoman and her friend.

Many friends came to visit. The council even looked the other way when Crime Sorciere came to grief.

Blue Pegasus, Lamia Scale, Sabertooth, Quatro Cerberus, Mermaid Heel. They all came. To say goodbye. There were a lot of tears.

Levy hardly hid hers. What surprised most were the tears streaming down Gajeel's face. Not only had he lost his first and best friend, he also blamed himself for it.

Neither Gray nor Natsu spoke a word. When Lyon neared his childhood rival the younger ice mage did not even react. He just stood there in the rain without an umbrella and stared at the stone bearing her name. Next to him stood Natsu, mirroring his friend perfectly.

It was late evening, every one but Gray and Natsu had moved back into Fairy Tail's guildhall. Despite the lively nature of the guild, the atmosphere was depressed.

"Come inside you two you will get sick. That's not what they would have wanted.", the master had put a hand on each of their shoulders.

Gray stood up and everything felt numb. Natsu just snorted, his voice shaking

"You have no idea what they would have wanted. They're dead.", his voice broke at the last word and he punched the floor under.

The master watched him double over and realized that he was crying. Next to him Gray moved a hand in front of his face and soon sobs were making his back shake.

The master watched them cry helplessly. It had been long since he last saw them so full of grief. But he knew he could not help them. They would not let him. He could do nothing.

After a week most had come back to normal. Or almost. It was clear to see that the loss of Juvia and Lucy had caused a hole in their family.

Gray and Natsu closed off from every one but each other. Erza thought back to a time when it was normal to see Gray so full of grief and regret, but Natsu had always been able to bring a bright smile onto his face.

Cautiously she neared them. Gray's mood was quickly changing nowadays, from sad to tired, to angry, back to sad, to self-loathing. It went on and on.

Today he just seemed tired. Erza pushed a piece of paper before them.

"Do you want to come on this mission with me? Maybe it will take your mind of things.", she asked them silently. She was surprised to see Natsu's anger flare up

"Things? They're not things. They were Juvia and Lucy... she was my best friend, my sun, my -", he cut himself off. Gray sighed

"Come on Natsu let's do this. Erza's right the more we sit here, the more we have to think about them...", he picked up the job description and stood up. The whole guild watched him and Natsu.

The salmon haired man looked at his friend and after a while nodded. He stood up and the two went out on the mission. They were so quick in disappearing that neither Erza nor Happy were able to run up to them.

They took this S-Class mission alone.

When they returned, the master simply could not punish them.

They returned battered and bruised, they must have finished the monster of with hand to hand combat. Gray's knuckles were still dripping with blood, whether it was his or the monster's was hard to tell. They returned with the full reward and without any complaint by the town they were in.

Only then did the master understand how utterly broken the loss of the two women had left these two.

After they had cleaned up and Wendy had nursed their injuries the two returned to the place they had spend the nights at so frequently these past days. Lucy's and Juvia's apartment. Without food, without words between them they went to sleep. Natsu in Lucy's bed and Gray in Juvia's.

The full moon and the stars outside watched them fall asleep.

Natsu found himself in a meadow. Next to him was Gray. In a distance stood two maidens, he could not distinguish their faces, because their faces were concealed by veils.

He felt drawn to them and from the corner of his eye he could see Gray move to them as well. When they stood before them the one on the left, dressed in black moved forward to Gray.

He watched the figure reached out for him and his friend's eyes went wide when the figure touched his cheek. Natsu did not understand this reaction until Gray pulled the figure into a tight embrace, tears starting to flow down his face. When he heard Gray whisper a name and the black veil of the woman in his arms slipped of her face to reveal blue hair, Natsu turned to the other figure, who watched just like him.

He called out her name and saw her head move to him. She lifted her hands to put away the white veil from her head, displaying her warm brown eyes and her long blonde hair. He ran towards her and engulfed her into a tight embrace. He would never let her go.

She felt so real in his arms. So did the tears on his shirt. He breathed in her scent, trying to keep it forever.

"Lucy, Juvia you don't have much time.", a new voice interrupted them and Natsu wanted to tell the voice to go away. But Lucy nodded and pulled back.

She still had her arms around him and quickly dried her tears.

"Natsu, I'm really, really sorry about this. I have to go. But I'm here to tell you to wait for me. I will be back I swear. I – I don't know how long it'll take. But I will return.", she explained and he shook his head.

"I won't let you go ever again.", he explained and now it was her turn to shake her head

"I will explain everything when I get back. But please stop being so sad. Watching you like this it- I'm sorry I know it's my fault.", her voice was unsteady. She cleared her throat and looked him in

the eye

"I really have to go. Just believe in me. I will return.", she begged him and he nodded.

"Luce, I... need to tell you something. I l-", he was cut off by her finger on his lips

"Don't. Not now. Keep it for when I return.", she smiled sadly, stood on her tiptoes and pressed her lips on his cheek and released herself from their embrace.

"Will you do me a favour?", she asked and Natsu answered

"Any thing for you."

"Will you look for my keys?", she asked and Natsu nodded.

"Thank you. Goodbye.", she smiled and turned. Natsu watched her walking to a figure that had appeared. That must have been the origin of the voice.

Actually it was two figures.

A woman with long silver waves and white eyes that was dressed in a long silver gown, and another one with long golden hair and golden eyes, dressed in gold.

He watched Lucy walk up to the woman in golden and from the corner of his eye saw Juvia walk up to the woman in silver.

"I will wait.", he called out to Lucy, who smiled at him, before she, along with the meadow around him vanished and he woke up.
