Klaus searched eagerly through the crowd of around 20. She wasn't here. Why wasn't she here? Did he expect her to be here? When he asked her to come it was very rushed and she didn't say yes exactly. Her exact words were "I'll try to make it". It made Klaus angry to think that he had invited a young woman to a dinner where only the most important people were invited…and she hadn't even turned up.
He didn't know why he was so entranced by the young woman. She was beautiful, there was no denying it. Her voice soft, and clear, with a deep French accent that gave off waves of sensual elegance. But there were plenty of women in New Orleans who were beautiful weren't there?
Elijah of course was being insufferable the entire day. The last minute dinner had annoyed him greatly and he was acting as if the stick shoved up his ass had found its way up a few more inches. Though Klaus had to admit, Elijah seemed almost as antsy for this party as he was.
Rebekah was still in her room. She enjoyed making an entrance. And of course she would probably be making herself extra beautiful to impress Marcel. Klaus was sure that they hadn't spoken to one another since he undaggered her four years ago. Since then, she spent most of her time in seclusion, not speaking to either Klaus or Marcel. Though she would occasionally throw both of them glares.
Kol was being…well Kol. Kol was the type of brother that even though you couldn't stand him and every time he opened his mouth you felt like ripping his heart out, he was family. And family never turns their back on one another. Klaus had eventually forgave Kol for his tormenting of Marcel in that poorly displayed Shakespeare play and awoken him about a year ago. Kol was just being himself after all. It wasn't that surprising that he had done it either. Kol had always been jealous of others.
"Where's your girlfriend?" came a voice that Klaus was very unhappy to hear. He turned around to glare at his younger brother.
"Not here, obviously, and she isn't my girlfriend you prick" Klaus growled.
Kol chuckled. "No need to be so defensive, brother. I'm only teasing."
Klaus rolled his eyes and turned his back on his brother who had begun laughing.
Klaus was ready to cancel the entire bloody dinner when she entered the doors. Klaus had to once again admire her beauty. She was wearing a purple dress and had her hair loose, with a few purple jewels pinned in the strawberry blonde curls.
Her eyes immediately landed on Klaus and she seemed to glance over his appearance before approaching him. Klaus took her hand and kissed it.
"My lady Victoria" he said, smirking at the young woman. "I am glad that you have managed to come".
Victoria raised her eyebrows, something Klaus found out she did whenever she felt the need to express any emotion. "I am glad to have been able to make it. Though I have to say Mr Mikaelson, it was rather rude of you to not invite Eliza."
Klaus smiled at Victoria, impressed by her boldness. "Was it now? Is it so hard to believe that I wanted you all to myself tonight?"
Victoria narrowed her eyes at Klaus. "Is that so?"
"Yes it is" said Klaus, attempting a warm smile. Klaus was displeased to see that Victoria remained unconvinced.
Kol studied his brother's tragic attempts to make conversation with Victoria. They were sitting at the dinner table, with Kol facing the pair. Elijah sat at the head of the table, the seat where Nik usually always sat at, although Kol was sure that he had only decided not to sit there tonight so he could sit with Victoria.
Kol wasn't sure what to make of the young woman. Since she had arrived he had learned three things about her; she was a witch, she was a member of the De La Fontaine family, and she was apparently immune to his brother's charms. So far, Kol liked her. He had a soft spot for witches, and a witch from a family as powerful as the De La Fontaine family made her even more desirable. Kol loved a challenge.
Victoria wasn't rude to Klaus. She was rather polite. But she just seemed…uninterested. Like no matter what Klaus said to her, she wasn't affected. Kol had to admit that he found that attractive. He always liked girls who could think for themselves.
After the dinner, the dancing begun. Kol hated the dancing part. He enjoyed sitting down at a table with a few women, flirting shamelessly with them, with an alcoholic beverage of some kind in his hand. Moving around was difficult. He was a terrific dancer, just not an enthusiastic one. Rebekah used to call him a 'lazy sod' and he supposed it was true.
Victoria and Klaus were dancing with each other of course. Kol smirked when he noticed how gracefully she moved. Of course, somebody from the De La Fontaine family would know how to dance.
The De La Fontaine family were the leading family of witches and warlocks in France. The De La Fontaine family were known for producing witches and warlocks that were incredibly powerful. Although Kol had to admit that the family also had a habit of using rather unorthodox and peculiar magic, much different to that of the New Orleans witches. Even the most powerful witches from New Orleans, like Eliza, or Helena Claire were no match for the weakest of the De La Fontaine witches. They truly were a strange bunch of witches.
Kol visited France in the 1600's and met a few witches from the French coven. The trip soon turned nasty when they ambushed him and attempted to gauge his eyes out for some monthly ritual to call upon their ancestors. The idiots weren't aware that their intended victim was an Original Vampire. The result was…spectacular.
Kol turned to see Elijah looking at Victoria and Klaus with evident curiosity. Kol was a bit miffed by Elijah's sudden curiosity over this new girl. He still seemed to be brooding over his last lover, who Klaus had accidently gotten killed. Kol briefly considered that Elijah harboured some level of affection of the girl but quickly dismissed the thought. Elijah turned and made eye contact with Kol, making one short nod with his head. Kol rolled his eyes. Now, he guessed, would be the time to step in.
Elijah walked up to the pair and asked Klaus to join him in speaking with the mayor, something Klaus reluctantly agreed to. Victoria headed over to the bar and ordered a drink. Kol took his opportunity and walked towards her. She saw him coming, of course, and simply stared at him with curious eyes.
"You must be Victoria" said Kol huskily, before ordering his own drink.
Victoria stared at him for another moment or two before seemingly dismissing him and staring back into the crowd.
"I am" she said shortly, accepting her drink from the bartender and taking a sip. Kol frowned.
"Aren't you going to ask me what my name is, darling?"
"I know who you are" said Victoria, her French accent becoming very clear. "Kol Mikaelson. Younger brother of Nikaus, Elijah, and Rebekah Mikaelson."
Kol smirked. "I'm older than Rebekah, love."
Victoria rose her eyebrows. "Is that so? I saw your poor display at the party I attended last week. Rebekah acted far more mature than you did."
"You know who I am," said Kol, "then you know not to get on my bad side. People who do that tend to end up very much dead."
Victoria gave Kol a slight smirk which, for some reason, made Kol feel very small.
"I apologize if I have offended you Mr Mikaelson" she said in a low voice. "I did not know you were so sensitive".
Kol chuckled. "Don't worry love. I think you'll find I'm not easily offended at all."
Victoria did not say anything, but merely took another sip of her drink.
Kol cocked his head. "You know who I am, but I also know who you are, love. Victoria De La Fontaine, witch from said Wiccan family in France. Why would a witch from a family like that come to New Orleans?"
Victoria gave a sight snort. "Your brother is curious as well. I will tell you exactly what I told him. I had a disagreement with the others. That is all."
"A disagreement?" asked Kol, frowning. "About the magic?"
"Yes and no".
"What exactly does that mean?" asked Kol patiently.
Victoria sighed. "I love my family but I soon discovered as I was growing up that they are not like me at all."
"Is that all?" said Kol chuckling loudly. Victoria whipped around and narrowed her eyes at him. Kol raised his hands in a mock surrender. "My apologises, it's just…that's your problem with your family? I must say sweetheart, I thought there would be more to it than that for you to abandon your family like that."
Victoria's eyes darkened. "I didn't abandon them, I was – what does it even matter? It's none of your business."
"Love" Kol started, leaning forward and looking her deeply in the eyes. "I've had countless disagreements with my siblings over the years. Klaus has even shoved a dagger into my heart and left me in a coffin until he decided he had the patience to deal with me multiple times. Not seeing eye to eye with your family is part of being in a family."
Victoria's eyes softened. "You don't understand. I love my family, it's just that we are so different. We both have completely different views on how I should act and what magic I perform. I felt like I had to rebel against them just for them to understand who I truly was."
Kol tilted his head and looked at her with interest. "And who is it that you truly are, darling?"
"I have absolutely no idea, Mr Mikaelson."
Kol was beginning to see this young lady in a new light. There seemed to be much more to Miss De La Fontaine than meets the eye.
A coughing sound could be heard behind Kol which brought him out of his thoughts. Klaus was standing there, glaring at Kol viciously.
"Thank you for keeping my dance partner happy brother" he said darkly before looking back to Victoria.
"Another dance, sweetheart?"
Victoria glanced at Kol for a few seconds before turning back to Klaus. "Of course".
Kol watched Klaus lead Victoria out to the dance floor enviously. She was truly something else. Kol loved independence in a woman and Victoria practically breathed an independent soul. Kol smirked.
"This is going to be fun".
