Ruby's P.O.V.

The next morning, we all met back in Blake's room to discuss Weiss' plan to protect Blake. We all sat on the bed, like we had last night.

"Okay everyone. Here's my proposal. Blake needs a bodyguard." Blake raised an eyebrow.

"What?" I looked at Weiss "I mean, that makes perfect sense, but how are we gonna do that? Dad would never waste resources on Blake!"

I looked at Blake apologetically. "Sorry." She sat back on the bed.

"It's fine, Ruby. I understand what you mean." I was relieved.

"Well," Weiss said. "Yes. Dad wouldn't want to. Ruby on the other hand, obviously does." She waved her hand at me. "See what I'm saying?" Slowly it dawned on me. Dad spoiled me, and I knew it. Weiss was the princess, but she would eventually take over the company, and so she was never truly his. She had to be trained, hardened. I, on the other hand, was the kid who could be fully his. If I wanted something, I usually got it. For instance, if I wanted it to be 'fair' for Blake, he'd get her a bodyguard. I nodded.

"Yeah Weiss, I get it. If I go down there and ask him, hopefully while he's in a good mood, he'll hire a bodyguard for her. I can claim I want it to be 'fair'. Since I have Andrew and Harley, and you have Fred and Corey, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. And," I grinned mischievously "you both know how stubborn I can be when I want to."

Blake spoke up. "I appreciate this, you two, but really, it's not necessary. I'll be fine."

"No you won't." Weiss held her hand in front of her, palm side up. "Think about it from your father's-"

"Adam"

"Think about it from Adam's point of view. He thinks you're dead now, but what if he finds out? You were his heir, you probably have more information on the White Fang than anyone else except Adam himself. And you're in the hands of the White Fang's worst enemies, working and living with us. They'd do anything to shut you up. Trust me, it's necessary."

Blake nodded. My sister knew how to make a good point.
"Okay, I'll let you do this for me. But it has to be a new guard, I'm not taking either of yours, and I'm not decreasing the staff in the house."
I began to object, but she put her hand up to stop me.
"No matter how good you are with Crescent Rose."

Aww.

"Okay, Ruby." Weiss spoke. "Let's put the plan into action tomorrow. After how drunk he was last night, he'll be in a bad mood all day. Why don't we go into vale for the day? You too, Blake. C'mon, it'll be fun. You haven't left your room since yesterday. We should all go stretch our legs. Besides, the market's open today."
I saw my opportunity.

"We can get Blake some fish!"

Blake's face went dark. She pulled out Gambol. Oh, dust. Weiss' eyes went wide. I backed into a corner, then realized that was stupid because I didn't have space to pull out my massive scythe. Blake pointed her sword at me, angry. Then she sat back down on the bed, laughing.

"Oh, that was precious! Your eyes were as wide as dinner plates!"
Weiss crossed her arms.

"Real funny, Blake." I thought about Weiss' face when Blake pulled out her sword. I started giggling, and Weiss looked at me. I laughed even harder, until I had fallen on the floor. Weiss huffed and stomped out of the room. Once Blake and I had recovered, I went to retrieve Weiss and get ready while Blake put oh her bow. We met at the door.

"You all ready?" I asked. They both nodded, and we stepped outside, then got into the car.

"You know," Blake said. "I haven't been to vale since Ruby rescued me. I never really got to sightsee."

"Well," I replied. "We'll just have to fix that, won't we?"

The next day, I woke up and immediately remembered the plan. I knew Blake could fight, but I was still worried about her, and I knew Weiss was too. I went downstairs for breakfast. Since it was a workday, Father was already at work. I got myself a bowl of super-sugary Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes and some milk then poured it into a bowl. I could have the cooks make me a fancy breakfast like Weiss and sometimes Blake did, but this was faster. And it contained more sugar. Mom used to tell me I was like a hummingbird, eating sugar to keep my little body going as fast as I did. My semblance was super speed. I could literally run faster than a car, and I left rose petals all over the place when I used it. Hence my middle name, Rose, as well as my symbol, which was also a rose. I was halfway through my cereal when Weiss came downstairs, followed by Blake. When we first adopted her, she didn't trust anyone, and was a light sleeper, always the first up. I was glad to see she was getting more sleep.

"Good morning Ruby, Weiss." Blake greeted us as she came downstairs. Weiss was ordering her breakfast, and Blake added an omelet and a glass of milk. The man taking their orders hesitated, but Weiss looked at him expectantly.

"Um. Will that be all, Misses?"

"Yes. You can go."

Weiss dismissed him. Blake sat down and glared at the retreating man's back.

"I hate it when they do that."

I tried to calm her down a bit.
"He must be new. All the other servants recognize you by now."

"It's like he thinks that just because I'm a Faunus I belong in the kitchens or something. They just automatically assume I'm doing something wrong."

"He never said that."

"You saw how he looked at me." I went back to my cereal. A few minutes after I finished, the man came back. He put Weiss' plate on the table, then avoided looking at Blake as he handed her the plate.

"Thank you."

He left the room and Blake visibly relaxed. Weiss took a few slow bites of her meal, then spoke.

"So, Ruby. When are you going to speak to Father?" I considered her question.

"Well, I was thinking after dinner, when he won't be busy."

"Ruby, he's always busy. You'll have to catch him right as he gets home."
Weiss spoke up

"O-okay, I guess."

"Ruby, don't be nervous. It's only your father." Blake said, taking a few more bite of her omelet.

"I know. But I'm nervous anyways. I'll be fine, I got this."

"You've asked him for stuff before."
Blake reasoned.

"Yeah, but I didn't ask him directly, and I've never asked for something for another person, since I don't really have that many friends. Rich kids are jerks. Just saying." Weiss glared at Ruby sharply but didn't say anything.

Ruby didn't notice, and kept going.
"Anyways, I'll do it. But what do we do until then? I can't really leave the property, since I need to be here when he gets back. So now what?"

"Well..." Said Weiss slowly.
"We could always spar..."

"Yes!" I shouted excitedly, reaching for Crescent Rose. Blake grabbed my hand.

"Slow down, speed demon. Don't pull your weapon out at the table. It's rude." Now it was my turn to roll my eyes. Blake smiled at me as I did so, earlier irritations forgotten. "Glad to see you're picking up my habits."

"That comment deserved it."

"They often do." Blake finished the last few bites of her omlette. For a few awkward moments, no one said anything. Then Blake spoke quietly.

"Now that you two know about my weapon... Could I spar with one of you?"

"Absolutely not! There's no way-"

"Weiss," I said. "please let her!"

"The guards, they have to watch us when we fight! they'll tell-"

"The guards can wait outside. C'mon! It'll be fun!" I poked my sister in the side. She gave in, sighing.

"Yes, all right. Blake, you can fight me or Ruby. Ruby, since you apparently already have your weapon, why don't you and Blake go retrieve Gambol Shroud and I'll go get my rapier. Let's go." We stood up, then Blake and I headed back towards the rooms. When we got to her room, Blake pulled open the door and grabbed her weapon. She pulled what I had thought was the blade off of it, to reveal another, thinner blade. The part she held in her hand, the sheath, could also apparently be used as a blade, seeing as how it was sharpened as well. Then she blew my mind even further by using her aura to activate the katana blade. The blade folded in half, sliding forwards and coming down against the handle to form a gun. There was a ribbon attached to the handle of the gun, and she tied it around her wrist, in addition to the ribbon that was already there, that she used to hide her ears in public.

"Alright," she said, turning her weapon, what had she called it? A variant-ballistic-chain-scythe? Back into a katana, then sheathing it and attaching it to a metal plate on her back. "Let's go." I shook my head.

"Give me your weapon. I'll hide it under my cloak. We can't let the guards see it." She pulled it off her back and hesitantly handed it over.

"Alright. Now, let's not keep your sister waiting. You know how she gets." I nodded, pulling my cape over the weapon to hide it from view, and we stepped outside. We began walking back towards the gym/ training room, whatever you want to call it. When we entered, Weiss was already in there, polishing her weapon. The guards tried to follow us in, but Weiss waved them away.

"You two, stay outside."

"But, miss, our orders-"

"You have new orders. Stay outside. There are three of us in here. You will know if someone gets hurt. Go." They turned around and closed the doors behind them, leaving just the three of us in the large room. The floor had a large grid pattern on it, with a line across the middle. There was a rack of large metal balls by the side, with a Grifball poster above them. I had never played before, it was a violent game and I was apparently too young. Even Weiss, who was two years older, couldn't. There were benches along the walls, but mostly the room was empty. Perfect for sparring. I pulled out my enormous red scythe, checking all the hinges and mechanical pieces for problems. There weren't any, since I loved my weapon almost like I loved Weiss, and I took good care of it. I pulled back the cocking mechanism and loaded it with normal bullets, infused with a little bit of fire dust. The dust was how the whole thing worked. When I pulled the trigger, a mechanism hit the bullet, activating the dust, and sending the bullet flying out the barrel at high speeds. It was a fairly common firing mechanism, but the weapon as a whole was unique. It was a long sniper rifle, but unlike most sniper rifles, it had a long, crescent-shaped blade attached to the end. The whole thing could collapse into a half-foot by two-foot rectangle that I kept on my belt at all times. You would think it was heavy, but I had used high-quality, light, strong, metal. Unlike Weiss, who had designed, but not built her own weapon, I had designed Crescent Rose, and built her with my own two hands. She was a part of me, moving the scythe around was as natural to me as twitching a finger or tapping your foot. I realized that Weiss was waiting for me, and I stood up hastily, swinging my scythe over my shoulder.

"Okay," I said, joining the other two. "Who wants to go first?"

"How about you and Weiss?" Blake suggested. "You two are the ones who are supposed to be fighting in here, anyways. I'll fight the winner."

"Sounds good to me." Weiss and I took the floor, getting into position as Blake sat on one of the benches. Weiss and I both knew each other like we knew ourselves. We both knew that taking the first move was important, but Weiss was much more agile than myself, with her light, easily maneuverable rapier. Our bout started the same way it usually did: Weiss put a glyph under her feet, gliding towards me over the floor. I anticipated this and sidestepped, holding my scythe out to catch her in the stomach. She jumped and sailed over me, landing in a glyph above my head like a spider in its web. I spun around to see her and backed away quickly. She launched herself at me, and I spun my weapon, slamming the blade into the ground and catching her sword, dragging her down and throwing her off her trajectory. She flipped, landing on her feet and skidding, then stopping, rapier pointed towards me. We were back where we had started. This time, however, I took the initiative. I ran towards her, using my super speed to give myself a boost, using only a tiny bit of my aura. She placed a glyph right in front of me, and I nearly ran into it, but I shot at the ground and launched myself over it, flipping and landing behind her. I slammed my scythe into the ground to give my aim more stability and began firing off rounds at her. She rolled to the side, dodging them, and shot a line of ice spikes at me. I jumped, but one caught the edge of my cloak, dragging me back down. I yanked at it, and it came free, but Weiss used the distraction to her advantage, stabbing her rapier into the ground, she trapped me in a glyph. She relied more on her semblance than I did, so her aura was a bit more depleted than mine, the longer she held me her, the more it would go down. Suddenly I had an idea. I flipped the blade of my scythe in so that the weapon went to full sniper mode. I took aim and shot at Weiss. I nearly hit her a couple times, but she used her glyphs to defend herself, further lowering her aura. It was so far about halfway to the yellow, while mine was only a little bit depleted. I couldn't really do anything at the moment but wear her down, so that's what I kept doing. Eventually she figured it out and let go of me. I landed on my feet, breathing a little heavy. Weiss was breathing heavier though. She used an old trick that sometimes worked on me and sometimes didn't. She placed a glyph under my feet, shooting me into the air. I was caught off balance, and I fell to the floor with a crash. It didn't really hurt, as my aura took most of the impact. But now my aura meter was even with hers. I got up, attacking her again. The bout went on for a few more minutes, until eventually I managed to disarm Weiss, I hit her with the blunt side of my scythe, throwing her against the wall. I heard a loud noise, meaning that the spar was over.

"WINNER: RUBY SCHNEE" the room announced. I walked over towards Weiss, and helped her up, retrieving her rapier for her. She smiled at me gratefully.
"Good bout." She said. I nodded.

"Good bout." Once she was able to stand, I helped her over to the benches. I felt a little bit bad for hurting her, but then I realized she wasn't the only one who had taken a beating. I collapsed on the bench. "Hey Blake!" I called.

Heh. Catcall. I could use that. "Let me take a break and let my aura regenerate! Then we can spar. I'm excited to see you in action!" She nodded, then returned to her book. Wait, I thought. Where'd she get that? I let my scythe fold all the way back up, then put it on my belt, then I walked over to the end of the bench where I had set my water bottle. I took a sip. After a while, I began thinking about Blake. I when I had first found her, she had been delirious. She had been muttering in her sleep. Weird things, like "don't be so dramatic." And "what about the crew members?" I guessed that she had been dreaming about one of her missions in the White Fang. They were our enemies, I knew that, but I had never really stopped to think about their side of the argument...

This one's a little bit longer, but it was originally going to be this and chapter 4 as one until I cut it in half. I switched to Ruby's P.O.V. for two reasons: 1) so I could write chapter 4, and 2) I was getting a little bit tired of writing from Blake's P.O.V.
Don't worry. Yang will be in here soon, I swear.
