Chapter 12 Chaos in Perfection

Sayu quietly unlocked the front door of her house and tip-toed in. She was stepping softly towards the stairs when the living room light turned on. "And where were you, young lady?" Her father sat alone in the center of the couch.

"Dad. You're home. For once." She muttered that last part, but made sure both her father and L could hear her. "Some old friends were moving out of the area. The cheapest train was at midnight, so I snuck out to see them off." Sayu noticed that her Dad's head tilted slightly to the side and saw his ear piece. 'So, L gave him a wire.'

"What are these 'friend's' names?"

"Sage Sacatori and her brother, Salo." She answered without hesitation. "I've known Sage for a year now and we've become really great friends." This was, technically, not a lie.

"Dad? Sayu? What are you doing down here?" A voice came from the stairs. They turned to see Light standing behind Sayu, in his pajamas and shirtless. Sayu had to restrain herself from sneering. Like he didn't know exactly what they were talking about.

"I caught Sayu sneaking in after going to see some friends." Her Dad stated, disapproval radiating from his voice.

"Oh, Sayu." Her mother appeared behind Light. Apparently, she had heard our conversation and came down. "We are so disappointed in you."

"Hey, Light," The shinigami drifted above them all. "It looks like your little sister is a criminal. You gonna kill her too?"

"I guess that's all I'll ever be to you. A disappointment." Sayu snarled, shaking slightly in anger. Her eyes lit up like the pits of hell. "No matter how hard I try, I will never compare to brilliant, perfect Light. No matter what I do, I'll always be seen as second best. Dying underneath my brother's shadow." She turned away and walked towards the stairs. "Being suppressed by this family is going to be the death of me, I swear." She stormed up the stairs, her mother right behind her.

"Sayu, sweetie, please stop!" Sayu slammed her door in her mom's face. "Sayu, you know we don't really think that! Please be rational!" She banged on the door repeatedly for her to open.

"You don't really believe that do you?" Sayu looked to see herself glaring back. "These people are shit, not your family. The only family you need is Spice and Salt. Kill them already!"

"Shut up!" She sobbed, tears streaming down her face. Sayu gripped the alarm clock on my bedside table. "JUST ALL OF YOU, SHUT UP!" She threw the clock at the mirror, shattering it into a thousand pieces.
