"What the devil is a Valentine's Day?" Knock Out huffed, crouched down so that he could peer over Miko's shoulder, at the laptop nestled on her legs.
"A day to celebrate love, dude. You pamper your boyfriend, girlfriend, robo-lover or whatever." Miko grinned, flailing one hand towards him as she brought up a series of images that had to do with the holiday.
Knock Out made a soft sound of contemplation, scrutinizing the pictures the girl had pulled up. "Everything is red, good colour."
Miko grinned again, twisting to look over her shoulder at him. "Red is the colour of love." she hummed the word love, dragging out the vowel's sound.
He frowned at her, making another small noise. "Isn't your blood red? That's not really romantic, is it?"
"But blood is pumped by the heart, and the heart is the source of love!" she pointed a finger at him as she countered his comment.
"But your hearts look nothing like the hearts on these, Valentines." he pointed at her screen.
"Well, not one human heart no, but people say it's the shape of two hearts resting together, implying it takes two to love." Miko smiled, feigning a dreamy and lovesick look.
"Pah." Knock Out finally stood up straight, dismissing her with a wave of his hand. "You have too many silly holidays." he turned to wander off, ignoring what ever else Miko shouted after him.
He found himself trailing a finger along his chest as he walked, wandering outside as he pondered what he'd just heard. Red, the colour of love, romance huh? Well, guess he was lucky in that department. But the heart thing...
He stopped his stalking, paused with a hand resting over his chest, over his spark. Two hearts to make one, how did it work with only one heart and a bundle of raw energy? He frowned, tapping a fingertip against the armor of his chest. Maybe he'd have to look into this Valentines thing.
"Now what are you up to?"
"What? Nothing. Who says I have to be up to something?"
Diana scoffed, rolling her eyes, settled in the passenger seat of Knock Out's Aston Martin form, supposedly to play the quiet passenger while he took her somewhere.
"There's nothing going on."
"Uh, you asked me to go for a drive with you..."
"We always do that."
"... it's been a four hour drive Knocks." she looked towards the dashboard, raising a brow and tossing him an amused grin.
"Well, we're going somewhere, alright." he mumbled quietly.
Diana laughed, turning her attention back to the scenery outside. "You don't say." Granted it was the middle of the night, thus she wasn't able to figure out exactly where they were, but she knew they were headed towards the mountains.
Only when Knock Out pulled off the highway and onto a familiar dirt road did Diana realize where they were.
"Hey, this is the peak you and I hiked up when you were homesick."
"I wasn't homesick." Knock Out grumbled, halting and opening the door to let Diana out.
"Uh huh." she smirked up at him, glancing around the area and up towards the mountain. "Gonna let me hike it myself this time?"
"Puh-lease, you'd tumble down and break your legs." he grinned, scooping her up in his left hand and heading up the incline, setting her down once they reached the spot they'd sat at all those days ago.
Unlike last time, there was only the moon and stars above them, not the flickering hues of the sunset. It still made for a gorgeous scene, the moonlight making the distant snow capped peaks appear almost iridescent.
"So, gonna tell me what this is all about yet?" Diana grinned, pulling the hood of her heavy sweater up and around her head, understanding now why Knock Out had insisted she bring warm clothing. It may be the Nevada desert, but it was February.
Knock Out looked down to her, matching her grin. "Today is the fourteenth." he seemed so proud of himself, rocking back and forth on his feet with his chest puffed out ever so slightly.
"Valentines Day?" Diana queried, pursing her lips together and looking out across the mountains. "I'd forgotten all about it... I didn't get you anything."
He waved a hand at her. "No no, it's fine. You exist and that's enough for me."
Diana smiled, opening her mouth to reply, but didn't get the chance as Knock Out continued on.
"There is a human among you who said that each human is born with half a soul. They spend their lives searching for the person who holds the other half of their soul, and only when they unite are they complete in body, mind and heart." he knelt down before her, resting his forearm over his bent leg.
"Knocks..." she was sure her heart had just melted into her boots. "That's got to be the sweetest thing I've heard you say."
He smiled at her and, if he was capable of it, would have likely been blushing. "Miko said I should get you something, something from me that you can always have."
"Oh?" Diana arched a brow at him, watching as he plucked a tiny package from who knows where in his armor.
"Here." he was absolutely beaming as he handed her the small box.
The blonde found herself smiling again as she carefully unwrapped the package, blinking at the trinket inside. She carefully lifted the thing from the box, holding it by the silver chain it was strung onto, a pendant of sorts. It appeared to be a tiny gear with a smaller, similarly toned, flat disc layered atop it. In the center of the disc was the tiniest speck of azure, looking like a petite water droplet, save for the fact that it held a faint glow.
"Do you like it?"
Diana jumped at his question, having fallen silent as she inspected the necklace. "I, what is it? It's lovely." she pulled her hood down for a moment, fastening the pendant around her neck.
"Well, I thought you should have something important, a part of me." he glanced to the ground, his earlier enthusiasm seeming to have faded as he grew almost shy. "The pendant, it's bits I pulled from myself."
"From, you... this is made from parts of you?" she gawked up at him, then craned her head down to look at the necklace resting against her chest.
Knock Out offered a small smile, nodding. "The blue bit, I managed to extract a bit of my spark."
"What? But that's your heart, why... did it hurt?" she frowned, once again looking between her pendant and him.
He only shrugged at her. "It was worth it, to give a part of my heart to your heart."
"Knocks..." whatever was left of her heart had pooled into her boots with the rest of her composure. "It's, I don't even know what to say. I love it, I love you." she couldn't help the tear that came to her eyes as she stepped towards him and into his hand.
"But you, you're crying?" he frowned at her, lifting her until she was level with his face.
"Happy tears Knocks..." she smiled, touching a kiss to his cheek. "... happy tears."
"Mmm, well there's one more part to this gift."
"Yeah?"
"I filled your room back at the base with roses. Red, of course."
"Of course."
Hey everybody! Sorry I'm two weeks late with this (I was travelling and had no interwebs!). I'm afraid there's no story progression here, just a quick little bit of fluff, Valentine's Day as requested. ;)
