Chapter 18 It has Begun
Light's PoV*************************************************************
Light knocked politely on the hotel door as his Shinigami cackled behind him. Finally! Now that he was closer to L, he was one step closer to eliminating the detective once and for all.
The door opened and inside was the members of the Task Force and L. "Thank you for coming, Light," the panda-eyed investigator said.
"Not at all," Light replied. "After all, I want to catch Kira as much as you do." Everyone began to introduce themselves using fake names. Out of the corner of his eye, Light noticed a computer that only displayed a pink, cursive 'S'.
"Who's that, Rutig—I mean, Ryuzaki? You never mentioned that someone was going to stay behind a screen at this meeting! I thought we were supposed be a team!? How can we do that if one of you refuses to show yourself!?" Light asked angrily.
"We are. It's just that some of us," Did L just glare at a computer? "Enjoy being stubborn. Light-kun, meet Sugar, the world famous thief and serial killer."
His stomach turned and Light felt bile rise in his throat. "A serial killer!?" Light tried to hide his disgust with righteous anger. "What could a serial killer do to help!?"
"Quite a lot, actually," L said as he crouched ridiculously on one of the stuffed chairs. "She was the first to realize that the actions of Kira at Sakura TV were not from the Kira we are familiar with."
"What do you mean, Ryuzaki? That there is a Second Kira?" Light kept his breathing regular. Ryuk laughed in the background at his situation.
"Exactly," L replied. "I'm very thankful that Sugar managed to kill the Second Kira. Otherwise, I'd ether have to appear on TV or we'd probably be caught in some absurd situation where one of us pretends to be that real Kira."
"I suppose that's a good thing." Light was trying not to panic. There was still a chance that they don't have a Death Note…
"Sugar was even able to acquire the Second Kira's weapon." L whipped out Misa's Death Note from under a pile of papers on the table. "It's really ingenious; a notebook that kills whoever you want as long as you have their name and face."
"Now that we know what it looks like," L continued. "We are going to search every suspects' houses soon, including your own, Light. I hope you don't mind."
"Of course I don't." One thought echoed in the murderer's head.
I have to move the Death Note and fast!
Time Skip************************************************************
"I'm home-whoa!" Sayu muttered an apology when she barreled out the door. She crushed a plastic bag to her chest as she raced off into the night.
Light stared after her and shrugged. There wasn't time to worry about Sayu now. He had to get the Death Note to a more secure location. He couldn't be stopped now! Not when he was so close!
Barely saying hello to his own mother, Light swiftly ascended to his room. He entered the room and locked the door before turning to his desk. His motions were smooth in the way only repetition will cause. Threading the ink cartridge into the small hole in the desk drawer, Light raised the fake bottom.
The Death Note was missing.
