The three O'Connell's and Evy had just returned home to London. Evy had come to live with the family not long after Alex had been born saying she wanted to be able to spend more time with her only nephew and while Katharine believed that was part of the reason she also suspected the other reason was that living in Egypt was too hard for her with all the memories of Ardeth.
Jonathan has also taken up residency in their house on more than one occasion ( usually without invitation ) even though he had his own place but even Katharine thought it was a bit small and disgusting but really it was Jonathans fault for gambling all his money away.
Luckily for Alex, Katharine and Rick they lived in a large house that Katharine often commented looked like the museum in Egypt that Evy used to work at. Rick would always reply I'm not the archaeologist out of the two of us sending Katharine a smirk as she'd pout.
Rick and Katharine were walking inside with their bags while Alex and Evy lingered behind talking.
"Evy and I are pretty sure the bracelet is some sort of guide to the lost oasis of Ahm Shere". Katharine informed her husband. Evy and Katharine had talked about practically nothing else on the plane coming home.
"Kat, I know what you and your sister are thinking and the answer is no. We just got home". Rick tiredly said as he put the bags down.
"Well that's the beauty of it. We're already packed". Katharine said as she innocently turned to Rick with a small smile.
"Why don't you just give me one good reason"? Rick asked as he walked up close to her.
"It's just an oasis, love". Katharine said much too innocently as she took her husband's hat off his head.
"A beautiful...Charming...Exciting... Romantic...Oasis". Katharine whispered as she walked around Rick pulling his scarf off at the same time before coming to a stop right in front of him.
"The kind with the white, sandy beach and the palm trees and the cool, clear, blue water and ... We could have some of those big drinks with the little umbrellas". Rick said smiling as he wrapped his arms around Katharine.
"Sounds good". Katharine whispered slowly as she got caught up in her husband's peaceful vision.
"Sounds too good. What's the catch"? Rick asked as he pushed his wife back by her shoulders and stared her in the eyes.
"Supposedly it's the resting place of Anubis's army". Katharine quickly replied as she looked up at her husband with guilty eyes.
"Yeah! You see? I knew there's a catch. There's always a catch". Rick cried disbelievingly as Katharine started to walk away looking back at him with playful guilty eyes.
"How did I know that? And let me guess. It was commanded by that Scorpion King guy"? Rick asked as he followed his wife who kept looking back at him now with a smile.
"Yes before he mysteriously disappeared and now he only wakes up once every 5,000 years". Katharine answered excitedly as she started to walk up the stairs.
"Right and if somebody doesn't kill him then he's going to wipe out the world". Rick said as he swung his arms around. Katharine froze in front of him before turning around to face him.
"How did you know"? She asked curiously.
"I didn't. But that's always the story". Rick replied exasperated as Katharine laughed in front of him before continuing her way upstairs.
"The last known expedition that actually reached Ahm Shere was sent by Ramses the IV over 3,000. He sent over 1,000 men". Katharine said excitedly as she finally reached the top of the stair case with Rick right behind her.
"And none of them was ever seen again". Rick finished as Katharine turned to him.
"How did you know"? Evy asked from behind him making both Katharine and Rick jump as they hadn't heard her come in.
"He didn't..." Katharine started
"... But that's always the story". Rick finished as Evy smiled at the pair.
"Did Katharine mention there was a pyramid of gold"? Evy asked as she rounded the pair and started to walk in front of them.
"Twice"! Rick nodded as he held two fingers up in confirmation.
"Alexander the great sent troops in search of it". Evy said as she threw her shrug onto the rail.
"Hooray for him". Rick answered sarcastically receiving a smirk from Katharine as they followed the youngest Carnahan sibling.
"So did Caesar". Katharine told him as Evy started to search for a book in one of the shelves while Katharine walked past her knowing which book Evy was trying to find and exactly where it was.
"Yeah and look what happened to his career".
"And Napoleon"! Katharine told him as she climbed up the small ladder pretending she hadn't heard him.
"Yeah but we're smarter than him. And taller, too"! Rick mumbled as he pointed to the picture of the short man.
"Exactly which is why we're going to be the ones to find it". Katharine answered distractedly as she looked at the row of books. She was sure she'd put it here the last time she read it.
"Because we're taller"? Rick asked confused making Katharine chuckle. Katharine quickly grabbed the book as she held her arm out slightly before jumping into Rick's arms.
"That's why I love you". Katharine said as she smiled at him while he put her down.
"Nice try". Rick commended as Katharine opened the book she was holding flicking through it as Evy walked back downstairs.
"Mum what do I do with this chest? This sucker ways a god dang tone". Alex groaned as he brought the golden chest inside.
"Alex watch your language"! Katharine shouted from upstairs as Evy chuckled.
"Pot calling the kettle black don't you think"? Evy yelled at her sister who simply ignored her. Evy had head downstairs to check on Alex and as she saw he was safe and okay decided to head back upstairs to her room for the night.
"Rather weighty, this". Alex shouted sarcastically earning a laugh from his aunt Evy who had heard him.
"You're just like your parents kiddo".
Rick now had the book Katharine had grabbed and was flickering through it as something occurred to him.
"Kat, that first weird dram of Evy's that was exactly six weeks ago, right"? Rick asked his wife who looked at him confused.
"Yes I think so but what does that have to do with anything"? Katharine asked as she looked up at him.
"It just happens to coincide with Egyptian New Year". Rick said as he turned to the page for this year to show this year was the year of the scorpion.
"Oh my god! That has to be a coincidence right"? Katharine asked as she looked at her husband again gaping slightly.
"Maybe. All I'm saying is, let's be cautious. If anything ever happened to you or Alex I would never forgive myself". Rick mumbled as he put the book down. He'd already nearly lost her twice now. Once in Hamunaptra eight years ago and just a few days ago at the temple and both times had nearly killed him if something ever did actually happen ... he didn't even want to think about the possibility.
"You and Alex are the only thing that matter to me". Rick added on as Katharine smiled at him softly both totally unaware to what was happening downstairs with their little boy.
"Well, those old fools at Bembridge have been practically begging Evy and I to take over the British museum". Katharine said as she smirked in amusement.
"Maybe it's time to stop the adventures and just ... stay at home". Katharine said as she smiled a little at the idea.
"Have I kissed you today"? Rick asked as he looked down at his wife lovingly. Katharine shook her head before Rick leaned forward and kissed her softly as she wrapped her arms around him. Katharine pulled away growling at him.
"I absolutely hate it when you do that". Katharine growled in fake annoyance.
"Why"? Rick asked confused.
"It makes me feel like agreeing to anything you want". She replied pouting.
"Yeah" Rick smiled as he wrapped his arm around her turning her around and tipping her backwards about to kiss her again...
Only for her to catch sight of a bra hanging off the bookcase.
"That is most certainly not mine and Evy doesn't have a habit of throwing her knickers all over the place". Katharine said grimacing at the sight.
"Jonathan". Rick growled as he thought of his idiotic brother-in-law who seemed to like bringing his floozy's here despite Rick and Katharine telling him not too.
"Hey, Alex, behave yourself for five minutes". Rick called out to his son as Katharine grabbed the book and headed downstairs to Alex.
"You betcha". Alex said as he tried to hide the panic in his voice. Alex quickly covered the bracelet that would not come off of his damn wrist, with his sleeve before grabbing one of his dad's heavy bronze trophies and putting it in the chest slamming the lid shut as his Mum finished walking down the stairs.
"Happy to be home, sweetheart"? Katharine asked as she stopped in front of her son who looked worried about something.
"Couldn't be happier, Mum". Alex said as he smiled at his Mum. He knew she knew that he was hiding something but she wasn't hounding him like he'd seen a lot of other Mum's do to their kids at school. It was one of the things he loved about his Mum besides the fact that she'd often pull him from school for one of their little adventures.
"It's the year of the scorpion". Katharine said as she handed Alex the book opened at the page Rick had just had it on.
"Neat"! Alex exclaimed actually interested. His Mum and his Aunt had taught him a lot about Egypt and they always made it interesting unlike his history teacher at school. He made history sound so dull and boring.
"I thought you might like that". Katharine said smiling as she looked around for Evy.
"Hey Alex, Where's your Aunt". Katharine asked her son in confusion who looked up at her from the book with a big smile on his face.
"Oh uh she went to bed I think"? Alex replied his attention quickly going back to the book. Katharine nodded as she walked over to the chest to open it but when she got there she couldn't find the key.
"Alex where's the key"? Katharine asked her son whose head shot up with wide eyes when he heard his Mum behind him.
Damn
~*Break*~
After a few minutes of searching Katharine had knelt in front of Alex and started to search his pockets.
"Alex, I swear if you've lost that key you're grounded". Katharine said continuing her search although bother mother and son knew that he wasn't going to be ground even if he'd had lost it as both Katharine and Rick were complete and total suckers when it came to their only child.
"I haven't lost it I just can't find it. There's a difference Mum". Alex retorted cheekily as he smiled at his mother who smirked back at him.
"Well you better find it then". Katharine chuckled out as she tickled Alex's sides.
"I will Mum. There's nothing to worry about". Alex replied giggling.
"Good evening". A deep dark voice sounded from behind the two. Katharine quickly turned around to see a dark skinned man wearing red robes the greatly resembled Ardeth's.
"Who are you and what the hell are you doing in my house"? Katharine angrily asked as she pushed Alex protectively behind her.
"I'm looking for the chest, of course". The man informed smirking as Alex snuck around his mum to pick up said chest.
"Give it to me now". The man ordered as Katharine walked over to the sword collection near the fireplace and picked one up, pointing it at the man.
"Get out of my house, now". Katharine growled as she pushed Alex behind her again while the man simply smirked at her.
"Whoa, Mum. Maybe not the best idea". Alex said worriedly. Even though he knew full well his mother could look after herself he still didn't like the odds between her and this very large angry man.
"Alex, stay back there". Katharine told her son as more men came out from behind the dark skinned man who was obviously the leader.
"Definitely not the best Idea. I think it's time to yell for Dad now ". Alex said worriedly when he saw his mum tense up even more.
"Now I will kill and take it anyway". The leader said as him and the group of men walked forward.
"I think not".
Katharine quickly turned around to see Ardeth walking in with Evy not far behind him.
"I should have known. Whenever you show up trouble usually follows". Katharine growled at the sight of the man who broke her little sister's heart.
"Evy, what is he doing here"? Katharine asked as she looked at her sister from the corner of her eye. Evy was about to open her mouth to tell her when Ardeth interrupted the two.
"Perhaps explanations are best kept for later". Ardeth said as he kept his eyes on the men.
"Ardeth Bay". The leader remarked.
"Lock-Nah". Ardeth practically growled out.
"Of course he knows him. Evy you sure know how to pick them". Katharine mumbled receiving a glare from her little sister.
The leader quickly spoke something in Arabic as the men started to come forward.
"Evy look after Alex"! Katharine ordered her sister who nodded and ran over to Alex to keep him safe.
Katharine cart wheeled away kicking one of the men in the face as she did so before she turned around and started to block their attacks with her sword. Katharine quickly grabbed one of the men's shoulders and threw him behind her into the path of another red robed men who was about to run her through with his sword before she twisted his arm into the air lodging the sword in the bookcase.
"Whoa, Mum! Where did you learn to do that"? Alex yelled out in awe as he watched his Mum fight while Evy smirked knowingly.
"I have no idea". Katharine huffed as she pushed one of the men away from her. She had never used a sword in her life. Dagger, yes ... Sword, no. Katharine caught sight of Evy's smirk.
"Don't start Eve's". Katharine gasped before a man grabbed her around the throat and pushed her into the wall. Katharine quickly bent her leg up, kneeing the man in the crotch before kneeing him in the head as he bent over and then finally punching him.
"That I learned from your father". Katharine yelled out as she remembered the day when they were in their teens and he'd taught her a little self defence.
Katharine quickly picked up another sword that was lying around as she fought off the other men.
"What's in the chest"? Ardeth called out from where he was fighting.
"The bracelet of Anubis". The sisters yelled out in unison one with much more anger than the other.
"They must not get the bracelet! Get it and get out of here"! Ardeth yelled out as he fought of Lock-Nah while Evy and Alex tipped a rather heavy bookcase on top of the man who was trying to regain his sword.
Katharine saw the chest in the middle of the room and ran over to it and picked it up.
"Mum/Katharine, look out"! Evy and Alex yelled out when they saw one of the men head for Katharine who turned around too late and was hit over the head making her fall into unconsciousness.
"Mum". Alex shouted distraught when he saw his Mum thrown over one of the men's shoulders and carried out of the house.
"Katharine". Ardeth yelled out just as worried as Evy held Alex back so he didn't go and try to help his mother.
Lock-Nah used Ardeth's distraction to his advantage quickly slashing his arm making Ardeth fall over at the force of the blow. Ardeth quickly stood up just in time to dodge a knife that was aimed at his head. Lock- Nah quickly exited the building.
~*Break*~
Rick was looking around the bathroom for Jonathan who had run in there only moments before himself.
"Jonathan! Jonathan"! Rick was in no mood to play games as he was worried about his wife and son who were also more than likely getting attacked right now. Jonathan quickly poked his head up from underneath the bubbles in the bath making Rick roll his eyes and hurl Jonathan to his feet.
"What'd you do this time"? Rick asked annoyed.
"I haven't done anything to anybody". Jonathan denied as they both ducked from the shots that were aimed at the bathroom door.
"Lately". Jonathan finished lamely.
"Come on"! Rick yelled as they ran to the bathroom window and jumped out of it landing on the gazebo before landing on the ground. Both were just getting their bearings when more shots fired making them jump the railing and run around to the front of the house.
As they came around the front Rick saw a car hurriedly pulling out of their drive way. He skidded to a stop as he watched it go only for the curtain at the back of the car to open slightly.
Katharine ducked her head out from behind the curtain and quickly caught sight of her husband.
"Rick"! Katharine yelled before a hand covered her mouth and she lost consciousness again.
"Katharine"! Rick shouted when he saw his wife be pulled down and vanish from his sight.
"Look out Rick"! Jonathan quickly yelled stopping Rick from running for his wife and making them both duck from the oncoming bullets that were being shot at them.
When the other car had passed Rick quickly got out of his hiding place as he saw the car with his wife in it disappear.
"Dad! Dad"! Alex yelled when he saw his dad who quickly pick him up in a hug and checked to see he was all right.
"Jonathan". Evy gasped and quickly pulled her brother into a hug as well.
"Are you all right"? Rick asked his son who looked up at him with wide eyes.
"Yeah". Alex replied shakily. He was technically okay but he was now extremely worried about his Mum.
"Yeah? Okay". Rick gasped as he put Alex on the ground and quickly tuned to the Egyptian man.
"O'Connell". Ardeth greeted. Rick growled as he grabbed hold of Ardeth's lapels and pushed him against the statue behind him.
"What the hell are you doing here? No, scratch that. I don't care. Who the hell are those guys? And where are they taking my wife"? Rick growled out as Evy shouted for Rick to let go of Ardeth.
"My friend, I'm not sure, but wherever this man is, you wife will surely be". Ardeth said calmly as he pulled Ricks arms off of him and handed his the photograph of the leader. Rick looked at the photo quickly thinking he recognised the man before the picture was ripped out of his hand.
"Hey I know him. He's the curator. He works at the British Museum". Alex said as he looked up at the strange tattooed man.
"Are you sure"? Ardeth demanded as Evy threw him a look for talking to Alex so harshly.
"Yeah you better believe him he spends more time there with his mother than he does at home". Rick replied as he grabbed Alex by his shoulders, turned around and started to run towards the car, quickly followed by Jonathan, Evy and Ardeth.
Rick slowed down when he got closer to the car.
"Okay you're here, the bad guys are here and Katharine been kidnapped so let me guess". Rick said as he quickly walked towards the car.
"Yes, they once again have removed the creature from his grave". Ardeth replied as Rick rolled his eyes. Great the Mummy was once again after his wife, wonderful.
"I don't mean to point fingers but isn't that your job to make sure that doesn't happen"? Jonathan asked angrily. He was worried about his sister who was once again in the hands of a deranged 3,000 year old Mummy and he, just like Katharine, was pissed at Ardeth for breaking Evy's heart.
"Jonathan". Evy scolded. She understood why her siblings were treating Ardeth so harshly but honestly he was still their friend and had come all the way from Egypt to protect them.
"The woman who was with him, she knows thing. Things that no living person could possibly know. She knew exactly where the creature was buried. We were hoping she would lead us to the bracelet. She obviously did and now they have it". Ardeth angrily told them.
"I wouldn't get too nervous just yet". Alex said smugly as he lifted his sleeve to show the bracelet. Ardeth quickly grabbed his arm.
"Is that gold"? Jonathan asked in awe.
"Oh Alex what have you done"? Evy groaned as she looked at her nephew who was much too much like his parents.
"When I stuck it on, I saw the pyramids of Giza. Then whoosh! Straight across the desert to Karnak". Alex told them excitedly as he looked at his dad.
"By putting this on you have started a chain reaction that could bring about the next apocalypse". Ardeth angrily told Alex who gasped in fear and looked at his father with guilty eyes as Rick rolled his eyes.
"You lighten up" Rick said pointing to Ardeth before pointing at Alex.
"You big trouble" Rick told Alex who grumbled. Yes he was most definitely going to be grounded for this.
"You keep an eye on him" Rick told Evy as he pointed at her who nodded at him.
"And you get in the car" Rick ordered Jonathan in annoyance as he got into the driver's side of the car. Rick didn't particularly care about all this stuff for the moment he just wanted to get to his wife before some dead guy once again tried to claim Katharine as his.
AN: Hey guys hoped you enjoyed the new chapter.
Next Chapter: Imhotep
I am personally looking forward to this story the most out of the three of them. Hope you liked that little bit of Rick's POV at the end.
