Danny slipped out from under the covers and kissed Angel's forehead gently before slipping out of the apartment, he had work to do. The drive to Rand Industries was short and he sighed to himself when he spotted all of the reporters outside the doors to his company. It seems that today the piranhas are out for blood. He thought to himself irritably.
Trying to act cool, he got out of the car and waded through the reporters, quickly answering a couple questions here and there. Today, a bunch of them were shouting out questians about his eye witch was swollen almost shut and had turned an ugly shade of purple.
"What happened to your eye Mr. Rand?"
"Did you get into a fight?"
"What does the other guy look like?"
Rolling his good eye, Danny responded gently, "No, I did not beat anyone up, I simple fell down the stairs."
"You do not seem to be the clumsy type."
"Anyone can accidentally miss a step," Danny hissed.
From the back of the crowd, one person shouted out the one question which always came up, the one he always tried to ignore, "Where were you those ten years you were missing?"
Shaking his head, Danny leaped through the doors into the company and signaled for the security guards to bar the door. Pausing to catch his breath, he heard a familuar voice laugh at him.
"Having fun?" Luke chuckled. When Danny turned around, Luke's eyes grew wide, "Woah, dude! What happened to your eye?"
"I slipped and fell down a couple stairs,"
"You? Fell down the stairs?" Luke snorted in laughter, "No, what really happened?"
"Anyone can take a bad step, even me. But what about you? Where you here this whole time?"
"Yep, the piranhas are really out for meat today huh?"
"Wow, thanks for the help man! They wanted to eat me alive!"
Chuckling, Luke crossed his arms, "You should have really gone to the party with us last night, give the media something to drool about." Mocking a high-pitched voice, Luke intoned, "What?! Danny Rand is a party boy?!"
"Haha, but they already have Stark for that."
"Come on Danny!" Luke whined, "You never do ANYTHING. There are three huge companies in the city that the media want to keep tabs on. Osborn is a giant green goblin, Stark is a famous partier and superhero, and you? What are you? You act almost to perfect, the piranhas out there want to know your secrets, give them something to drool over so that they don't search deeper and..." Trailing off, Luke glanced around to make sure no one was listening before lowering his voice. "And find out things you really don't want them to know."
Rolling his eyes, Danny pushed past his friend, "You've been watching to many movies, NO ONE is as good as Lois Lane. No amount of digging will reveal where I was or what we've been up to all these years."
"Don't be so sure," Luke frowned, "Underestimating them will lead to trouble."
"I'm late for a meeting," Pushing past his friend, Danny walked quickly toward the elevator calling over his shoulder. "I'll see you later at training."
Crossing his arms, Luke glared at the retreating form of his friend. "Yeah... Sure."
"Hey, one more thing," Danny turned around, "Please don't tell the others about my eye, it's mildly embarrassing."
"Yeah, a kun fu master getting beat up by a flight of stairs, that WOULD be embarrassing." Luke frowned skeptically as Danny raced into the elevator.
Three Hours Later
Rushing into training, out of breath, Iron Fist panted, "Sorry... I'm... Late. Got held up."
Raising one eyebrow at the teenager, Spiderman shrugged, "Whatever, but at least you are here now." Turning to address both of his teams, Spiderman grinned, "I am having one of each of my old team members train a couple of you New Warriors each. You will be paired up with your mentor for the next two weeks. Learn from them, and do what they. Old team: be patient with them, remember we were all rookies once too." Eyes roaming over the teams for a second, Spiderman spoke carefully, "Tiger, you pair with Kazar and Zabu. Nova, You are with Iron Spider, Luke, I'm pairing you with Agent Venom. Iron Fist, that leaves you with Cloak and Dagger. Good luck guys, teach them well."
Iron Fist waited until the other groups left before turning to grin at Cloak and Dagger, "Well guys, looks like you're stuck with me." Sitting cross-legged on the ground, he smiled reassuringly, "Come on, take a seat. Let's get to know each other."
