"Angel!" Danny exclaimed, racing through the underbrush to where she sat next to a stream in a small wooded area in central park, "Are you okay?"
"Danny," She jumped up, her hand pressed against the gash in her arm. "You found me."
"Yeah, are you okay?"
"No," She sat back down with a sigh, "Sorry about your window."
"Don't worry about it. So, Fury?"
"Yeah, he found me on one of his missions and took me in."
"Found you? Like, where?"
"I don't know, that's all he told me. I don't remember it, or anything before then."
Inching towards her, Danny reached out to touch her and she flinched away."
"Hey, calm down. I'm not going to hurt you."
"Sorry, I know, it's just..."
"You were trained not to trust, I get it. Now give me your arm, I should look at it." Ripping a strip of cloth off of the bottom of his shirt, he started to wrap her arm. "You are very accident prone," Danny laughed at her.
"It's not as bad as it could have been."
Raising one eyebrow at her, Danny laughed, "It looks pretty awful."
"I jumped out of a two story building, through the window, with one wing bound behind my back. What am I supposed to look like?" She grinned at him, her eyes sparkling in the moon light. They were sitting in a densely wooded area of central park, listening to a small stream bubble past them.
"i'm just glad that you're alive." Danny wrapped an arm around her, hugging her gently.
"It takes a lot more than a small fall to hurt me."
"I've noticed." They sat in companionable silence for a couple moments before Danny spoke again, "Angel?"
"Hum?" She grunted, staring distractedly up at the star-speckled sky.
"Have you ever thought of... staying here?"
"In New York?"
"Well, yes, but what I meant was..." He took her hand gently in his own, "With me?"
Turning, she gaped at him with wide, surprised eyes. "Danny... What are you saying?"
"There are quarters at my company, you could stay there, I would protect you."
"Brilliant idea," She rolled her eyes, "Stay in the city where SHIELD cronies are hunting to me, smaaaart." Pausing, she added, "Plus, what would my children think? They still have no idea where I am, they probably think I have abandoned them."
"We could bring them here! I love your kids." When Angel didn't answer right away, he stared at her face which had gone pale and something clicked. "Oh... What Fury said earlier... Daniel and Xiwang aren't your only kids, are they?"
"No," She said carefully, "They aren't. They are just the ones who are willing to meet the strangers I bring into my home."
"Are they all children you have rescued?"
"Yes, all from different places. And they need me."
"What if we went back to your mountain and asked your kids if they would be okay without you for a little longer? Your abilities as a healer would do so much good in New York! We could really use you here. Please?"
"Thanks Danny," Angel blushed, "But you have helped me enough, I don't like excepting help."
"Well, would you except a job?"
"What sort of job?" She asked suspiciously.
"I have not been in America for very long, everyone is always trying to figure out where I disappeared to, what happened to my parents. I own one of the three largest companies in New York, the paparazzi is always after me, trying to figure out secrets I don't want them to know. You have a way with words, if you could write a story for me, a cover story, that would be amazing."
"Hm, a lot of important people have someone who writes speeches for them... You sort of want me to be that person?"
"Well, I have never actually given a speech." Danny rubbed with disheveled hair uncomfortably, "I don't know what to say, if you could write those for me, I could never repay you."
"I don't know Danny," Angel hugged her knees to her chest. "My children still don't know what became of me. I would have to ask them first."
"Then I'll fly you back tomorrow!" Danny exclaimed, "The poison isn't gone yet, so I will stay beside you until it is, but there is no reason why we can't go back together."
"Tomorrow!" Throwing her arms around him, Angel cried into his shoulder, "Thank you Danny! Oh thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!"
Patting her back, he nodded. "You are even more homesick than I realized. Come on Angel, let's go home."
"Not yet. I have one more thing you need t know."
Helping her to her feet, he asked, "What?"
"You need t know why I am so wanted. Why so many want me dead." Danny looked at her curiously as she continued, "The kids I rescued... Some of them were in high security prisons."
Confused, Danny asked, "What could a child do that would land them in a high security prison?"
She gulped, "Some are, mutants."
"Wait a minute, you are harboring mutants?!" Danny gasped, "How has your mountain not blown up by now?"
"Mutants aren't as bad as the government makes them out to be!" Angel growled then added after a pause, "But... When you have a couple mutant toddlers with short tempers- well- we have had to make quite a few repairs. But most of the repairs are made by the older mutants. They aren't bad, they're just, misunderstood."
"Angel," Danny took her hand gently. "Are you a mutant?"
"I don't know, I've never known what I am."
Hmmmm, curious isn't it?
So Angel has wings, can move her consciousness into a mountain, can heal almost anyone, can break into high security prisons, and has no memory of who she was before Fury found her...
Curious isn't it? ;)
