"Should I cut my hair again?" Korra asked unpredictably after she freed a brunette strand from her daughter's hands.
It was another rare weekend with no interruptions from work and both Mako and Korra decided to just spend it in their apartment with their now, very mobile daughters. The family of four were sitting in the master bedroom, Korra sitting on the bed while helping her daughter Ama stand up while Mako was standing at the foot folding some laundry with their second child peeking over the comforter close by.
"What brought that up? I thought you liked having your long hair again." Mako said without taking his eyes off his task and nearby daughter.
"I do." Korra shrugged as she moved her hands from under Ama's arms to her hands. "I'm just starting to miss just waking up and not having to do anything with it. Whether I put it in a braid or in a ponytail, it's still too much work. And brushing it is starting to be a pain." Korra explain as she complained about her almost ten inch long hair.
"Why are you complaining? I've been doing all that for you lately." Mako added as he looked up at her with a crooked smile and raised eyebrow. Just as he took his eyes off Anali, the little girl let go of the comforter and fell on her padded diaper with small, high-pitched grunt slipping past her lips. Mako looked down at her to only get a blank, amber colored stare back at him. He then let out a small sigh as he picked her up with a small smile on his face. "Honey, it's your hair, you can do what you want with it." Mako said as he let Anali sit on his arm and us his other arm as a type of safety bar to keep her from falling.
"I know, I just thought to ask you first since you are my husband and have told me many of times about how much you missed my long hair." Korra responded as she shot him a pointed look over Ama's coal black hair.
Mako looked away from his wife with a guilty look on his face as he tried to laugh it off. He then looked back at her, thinking it was safe, but her stubborn pout just made his knees soften. Mako then walked over to sit on his side of the queen sized bed they shared and freed Anali from his arms. "Do what you want with your hair. I'll still love you and think you're beautiful whether you cut it all off or grow another few inches." He said with a concern look in his eyes.
Korra looked away from him, her cheeks heating up a little from the compliment. She never could hide her embarrassment whenever she received a compliment. "Ok, I think I might keep it a little while longer. Or until I decide the stubble can't stay."
"I thought you liked the stubble?" Mako asked mockingly, acting like he was hurt from the comment as he rubbed his slight five o'clock shadow.
Anali then looked at her father, listening to her parent's conversation without really knowing what they were talking about. When she saw the 'hurt' look on Mako's face, the infant pushed herself up on her feet and took one step forward that let her land on his arm. "Da!" She smiled before giving Mako's bare arm a sloppy kiss, trying to cheer him up.
Mako smiled down at her before bending down to kiss the top of her head. "Thank you sweetheart."
Korra smiled at the two, happy to see moments like this in person instead of hearing about them whenever she got back from council meetings. She then looked down at the infant standing in front of her and instantly picked her up as she leaned back against the pillows, making Ama squeal and laugh as she thrown up in the air a little. "Can you say 'mama'? Come on, say 'mama'." Korra said in a kind tone as she brought Ama down to her face so she could blow a kiss on the infant's chubby cheeks.
Ama squealed and giggled some more as she brought her fist up to her mouth. "Ma!" She shrieked as her blue eyes twinkled down at Korra.
"That's my girl." Korra smiled as she kissed Ama's cheek before lifting her up in the air again.
Mako smiled at the two as he absentmindedly ran his fingers through Anali's black hair. The little girl shook her head instantly and put her hands on her head. "No!" She shouted as she stared up at her father with her amber colored eyes, making the same angry pout that her mother made at him.
Mako looked down at her confused for a moment.
"I'm guessing she finally found a word to use to get you to stop messing with her hair." Korra said as she tried to hold back a chuckle as she looked over at the little girl.
Mako's shoulders relaxed as a soft smile stretched across his face. "Yeah, I guess so." He said, his mind filled with joy that his daughter added a new word to her vocabulary, whether she really knew what it meant or not. "I need to remember that she only likes you and Asami to mess with her hair right now."
"Don't worry, it's just a phase." Korra smiled as she let Ama lie on her chest and do what she wanted. "Maybe." She then added with a slight shrug as smiled at Anali.
The infant then smiled back at her mother and crawled forward so she could give her a sloppy kiss on her nose. "Ma!" Anali smiled and laughed, her laugh soon becoming contagious to her sister who was now sitting on Korra's stomach with her little fingers hanging out of her mouth.
