Hi guys! I'm sorry that I haven't uploaded any new chapters lately. My life has been going through up and downs, and I have not had any energy to write anything. However, after multiple requests to continue this story, I decided that I'm going to pick up my slack and finish these stories. Since this one had the most, I started on this one first. I will write chapters for my other stories soon, I promise. Now let's get to this chapter! Enjoy!
The Great Mouse Detective is not owned by me, as well as the movie's original characters. I only own my original character, Julia, and the story plot line. Everything else is owned by Disney.
Basil's expression did not change when I told him of the news, it's almost as if he expected it.
"Well that doesn't surprise me. You've always been such a violent mouse."
My mouth dropped.
"Basil! I'm being serious!"
"As am I." He quickly replied, " Why I remember being children and you were always picking out fights."
Yes, that part was sadly true. We had many little mischievous children running around London, all of which liked to pick on Basil and I. I was not going to let them pick on my best friend.
"I was not picking them, I was protecting you." I said in a rather hushed tone
"Protecting me? You made the bullying even worse!" He stood up and imitated one of the bullies," 'oh you need a girl to save you?'"
Suddenly he stopped. He looked down at me, and took a deep breath.
"I apologize, that was very childish of me. You're right, this is a serious matter." He stuck out his paw in a gesture of forgiveness. I grasped his hand and shook back.
That is what most mice don't understand about Basil. He can be very serious, yes, however he has his times when the child within him just has to come out. After all, you can't be serious all the time.
"Now back to business." He said as he sat back into his chair. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees," tell me everything that is important for this case."
I sighed, rubbing my temple with my fingers.
"It all started when I first moved to the school dorms. There was another mouse, his name was James Trinkle and-"
"You both fell in love with each other and began courting, continue." Basil interrupted me.
"No" I continued on," we were friends and then he began courting another mouse."
Basil sat in shock.
"Well then, ok. Continue please."
"Well him and his significant other began to have more and more fights. He would confine to me how much he wanted to break up with her, so I told him one night to follow his instincts."
Basil nodded his head.
"On the night he broke up with her, I was in my apartment doing my studies. The next day, both of them were found in his apartment dead."
Basil sat in his chair confused.
"So why do they blame you?"
"That's the thing, my pocket knife was found on the floor in his apartment, along with my left glove that's covered in their blood."
Basil stood up and walked around the room, putting the pieces together. I could only sit and watch as he grabbed his pipe and smoked it while walking around.
"It appears as though someone is plotting against you. Do you have any enemies?" He asked pointing his pipe at me.
"I don't recall having any." I explained but then I remembered something," however there was this mouse that was always wanting my attention."
"Who was it?"
"His name was George Wells. He is one of the smartest mice in our school-"
"Right after you of course." Basil, again, interrupted me. I couldn't help but blush.
"And he was always asking for me to be his, or something like that. He claimed that 'we were meant to be' or that I 'was his and only his'" I had gotten chills from just talking about him," He must have thought that-"
"You and James were courting, and his significant other must have witnessed the murder, so he naturally had to get rid of her as well."
I sat there astounded, though after knowing him for so long I shouldn't have. Basil was an incredibly smart mouse. He gave me a sly smile.
"There, case solved." He stated, puffing another smoke off his pipe.
"But Basil, we need to go back to my school and prove to them that it wasn't me! They won't just take your word for it." I explained to him
He nodded his head.
"Agreed. How about this, we will leave first thi-."
"Actually" I interrupted," I was wanting to stay a few days, you know, visit my home and enjoy London."
"But the quicker we get there, the less suspicious you will seem." Basil tried to reason with me but I refused
"Please Basil, it's been so long since I've been home!" I begged
Basil sighed in defeat. He knew that there was no chance of ever defeating me.
"Fine, three days. No more." He said sternly.
"Oh thank you Basil!" I cheered, jumping into his arms, giving him a long hug.
His lack of mice contact made the hugging experience much more...awkward. He awkwardly patted me on the back, then slowly wrapped his arms around me. It reminded me of the day that I left for school.
*Flashback*
"I'm going to miss London." I stated sitting my luggage next to me as I was about to board the train.
"London is going to miss you Julia." Basil replied laying a hand on my shoulder," and so am I."
"Basil stop it, you're going to make me cry." I wiped away a tear chuckling in embarrassment.
Basil quickly got close to me, very very close. He took his finger and gently wiped away the tears that traveled down my cheek.
"Please don't cry." He whispered," be strong, for me." He backed away, staring into my eyes.
I stared back into his green emerald eyes, instantly I could see that he was getting teary eye too. I couldn't hold myself back, I immediately wrapped my arms around his thin body. As always, he was awkward. But after a few seconds, his arms found their way around me, holding me close to him. I could feel my heart racing. Then the train conductor blew his whistle, signaling everyone to get on the train. I sighed heavily.
"I must go." I looked down at the ground at my luggage. I grabbed my suitcases by their handles and quickly turned around, heading for the train. I knew if I turned around, I would burst into tears. I quickly stepped onto the train steps and got in the train cart. I put my luggage in the top shelves above my seat and sat down.
Suddenly the train slowly began moving. Seems like I got on there in the nick of time. I sighed in relief. My watering eyes looked out of my window to find a heart broken Basil standing alone, staring at me. I gave a small smile and waved. As the train moved faster, I noticed that he followed it. Then he began running. I pressed my hands up to the widow. Then I saw that Basil was trying to tell something at me, but I could not tell what he was saying. Before I could ever find out what he was yelling at me, the train had left the station and was on its way to its destination.
*End of Flashback*
I slowly lessened my grasp around Basil, and he did the same. I sat in his lap, and we stared at each other for what seemed like a century before Basil spoke up.
"We should probably get some rest."
"Agreed."
We both stood up and headed for the staircase. Basil, being the gentlemen that he is, let me go first. I walked down the dark hallway and headed for the guest room, the room that I slept many nights in. I turned my head around before entering my room.
"Goodnight Basil." I said with a soft smile
"Goodnight Julia." He responded quietly
I turned the golden handle and walked into my room. The walls were a light green, while the flooring was a light brown wood. There was a tall dresser on the far side of the room, while the bed was up against the wall next to it. I shut the door and quickly got changed into my sleeping blouse and pants. I climbed under the soft sheets of the bed. It wasn't long before I fell asleep, dreaming of what Basil could have tried telling me at the train station.
