Chapter twenty seven:
"Is that….. A science building!?" Igneous gasps.
Sure enough it looks like a science building where experiments happen….. Like it holds a lab inside its walls.
Mello begins to move towards it but I rush forward to stop him grabbing his arm. He turns to me with a glare.
I look into his fiery eyes with seriousness. "We shouldn't just rush into this. It could be a trap." I tell him.
"You don't know anything!" Mello snaps with a growl in his voice. "We have to go in!"
Matt then takes a step forward. "Mello…." He says getting our attention making us turn to him. "Actually if it does end up being a trap then we won't be of any help to Near. We need to come up with a plan first. Do it for Near."
I turn back to Mello who looks down with sadness.
No one's P.O.V.
A figure stands in the room staring out in one direction.
A smirk comes to play on the figures lips.
The figure turns around to face the opposite direction only to walk that way.
The smirk never leaving the figure's face.
…
The group has found a hiding place behind some nature to give them coverage that makes up their hiding place. They can still see the building if they are not sitting on the ground or if they look in the right places like above the coverage. They have huddled to try to come up with a plan of action.
"If they are holding Near here we'll need to move quickly." Mello says. "Who knows how long before he is used for whatever that darker Near is going to use him for only to kill Near!"
"How many lighters do we have?" Matt questions seeming to have an idea.
They all check, as they want to win against the beasts when they go in there even if it's only to get Near back which is the plan for they can't just take down the entire army of who knows how many beasts, and count about twenty in total.
"I might be able to make better weapons." Matt says looking at the pile of lighters. "Currently our only and best weapon against the beasts happens to be fire. I can see what I can do with that information to make weapons that will help us at least win to get Near back then escape the building."
So all backpacks are given to Matt to let him try to make weapons that might help them.
Lighters alone might not be enough if facing a whole swarm of beasts.
"Can I help?" Igneous asks moving closer to Matt.
Matt gives Igneous a smile. "Sure." He agrees.
Igneous lights up at the response.
The two get to work using what they have to try to make the weapons.
Mello moves so he can sit on a rock while still being able to see the building. He watches the building from this spot.
Kaori is watching Matt and Igneous work.
Allen turns to Mello watching the blonde before getting up going over to him. "Mello?"
Mello's eyes flicker to Allen for a second then looks back to the building as if to acknowledge the other and then turn back to watching the building.
There's silence between them for a moment as Allen quickly sorts his thoughts since Mello is still being distant.
Allen speaks once his thoughts are mostly sorted. "I'm sure we'll find Near." He says trying to cheer Mello up.
Mello nods with a determined look at the building he's still staring at.
"I lost my lover. It was my fault." Allen adds sadly glancing away. "I won't let you lose your love."
Mello turns to Allen wide eyed. "But-"
Allen interrupts him. "Don't worry. We'll do all we can to get him back." He then gets up leaving Mello alone and to wait till they are ready to move in. He finds a good spot to keep watch for danger.
Mello watches Allen go as his mind still races from what the other said. "But me and Near are not dating." He says to himself then after a moment of watching Allen he turns to the building once again to think on Allen's words as well as ways to possibly get Near safely back. "We will get you back." He mutters to himself wishing in someway he could send his words of encouragement to Near.
With nothing to really do Mello decides to get some writing done.
He sits there glancing up every now and then as he works on the story. He does this for a while then it's getting late.
Matt and Igneous are wrapping things up as Mello closes the book after finishing what he wanted to get done.
Mello goes over to Matt. "You should also write." He says handing Matt the book.
Matt nods and Mello goes to watch out for danger. He opens it and begins scanning the pages only to begin writing where he can.
There is nothing they can do right now since they still need a plan….. But Allen doesn't seem to want to talk right now which is frustrating Mello.
Mello keeps giving expectant glances to Allen as if trying to tell him to get his ass in gear so they can go save Near.
Eventually, after what seems like forever for Mello, Allen gathers the group together as Matt puts the book away for now.
"How are the weapons coming along?" Allen asks looking to Matt and Igneous.
"They are coming along great." Matt says. "They should work. But we probably should do a small test. We were going to wait to know the plan before we do that."
"Alright. So the building is in ruins." Mello says. "We can use the holes to get through."
"But we need to figure out where they are keeping Near." Allen points out.
"We won't do that by just sitting around here." Mello growls obviously impatient and frustrated. "We need to get going! That darker Near could be trying to kill him!"
"Mello calm down." Matt tries to put a hand on Mello's shoulder.
Mello smacks his hand away. "How can I calm down? One of us is being held captive in there and ever second we spend waiting for this and that is another second wasted where we could be helping Near!" He growls.
"Mello….." Matt says as he lowers his hand to his side. "We will save Near. We just can't barge in there."
Mello bites his bottom lip and his hands clench into fists slightly shaking as if to emphasize his raging emotions.
Kaori and Igneous are especially starting to get a little frightened by Mello's anger that seems to be rolling off of him.
"We will rescue him." Allen says trying to calm Mello down a little. "But if we don't think this carefully then remember that they could kill Near because of us. Then what help would we be?" He points out as Kaori and Igneous cower slightly behind him but staying where they can see the other two.
Mello lets go of his bottom lip and turns his fiery blue eyes to Allen.
Silence ensues as the two stare into each other's eyes intensely like an intense match is going on between them.
"Guys." Matt says as he sweat drops feeling the tense air between the two.
The two turn to look to him slightly.
"We should be focused on helping Near." Matt says. "So let's stop fighting."
Allen turns to Mello with a softer look as the tenseness seems to dissipate even though Mello looks away from everyone. "He's right. Let's help Near."
Mello grunts in what sounds like agreement.
Kaori and Igneous come out of hiding feeling less scared.
"So I think…" Matt begins to share his thoughts on what they should do as the others focus on him… Except…..
Mello turns to the weapons and stares at them as he tones Matt out. His blue eyes show a debate going on in his head. He blinks and turns back to Matt.
"So I believe that's why we should not go during the night and wait until morning." Matt concludes.
Allen nods in agreement with a slightly thoughtful look.
Kaori and Igneous look to each other with nods as well.
Mello clenches his teeth at this.
"And I think we should have a search around the building to determine the best entry point. Maybe we might even see where they might be keeping Near. Or even something that might help us." Allen says. "Now I'm thinking how we do this is….."
Mello tones them out and sneaks away from the group while they are distracted trying to figure things out.
"That's a good idea." Matt says as Allen finishes speaking. "What do you think Mel….." He trails off as they look only to find Mello is gone. "Mello?"
The group looks around trying to figure out where Mello is. They slightly move as they try to figure out where Mello went.
"One of the weapons is missing!" Matt gasps after counting them.
"Mello!" Allen suddenly calls and everyone turns to see Mello dashing to an opening only to climb through disappearing into the building.
