Chapter twenty nine:
Silence answering Mello's question at first…. Then a growl.
Mello's eyes widen as he realizes that it's not Near.
He fires the weapon once lighting the room long enough for him to see two slightly larger beasts in there. He quickly moves back slamming the door shut and dashes away. "I would have killed them but I need to find Near." He mutters to himself as he turns to a corner slowing to a stop only to glance back.
Not followed making him sigh in relief.
He turns to where he is going and continues on his way.

Darker Near growls as he watches Mello walking through the building. His eyes narrow at the crystal ball he made from his dark magic abilities to watch the friend of Near's that is only known to be in the building so far. "Well well. It's blondie huh?" He then smirks. "Perhaps it's time we had some fun." He glances back to a closed door widely smirking.
…
Mello keeps on walking until he takes another right turn. "It's almost like a maze just as it has so many turns." He grumbles to himself. "But admittedly makes a good hide out. Intruders will be confused as they'll probably get lost." He talks to himself.
A sound makes him stop.
Someone is banging on the door trying to get it to open.
Mello follows the sound to a door that is closed. "Near?" He calls hopefully.
The banging stops.
"Mello?" What sounds like Near's voice responds.
Mello feels relieved to have found Near. "Oh my god I am so glad you are alive." He says.
"We don't have much time. The door is locked from the outside." Near responds.
Mello goes to one knee and peers at the lock.
It's rusted looking but it appears to be a key lock meaning it needs a key to open.
"I can see if I can pick the lock." Mello tells Near.
"Ok." Near agrees.
Mello sets down his weapon and begins looking for what he can pick the lock with.

Near looks around himself for anyway to escape.
His friends need him!
This place is extremely dangerous especially with so many beasts inside or at least the ones patrolling the building for any signs of intruders.
He looks to what has him bound and tugs on the binds trying to escape them as he feels his strength starting to return. He has no luck at getting loose.
This makes him feel frustrated and says a curse under his breath.
He looks for any other way to get rid of the binds.
There has to be a way to escape these binds that hold him!
He needs to get out of them as soon as possible.
Or else he won't be able to help anyone with anything.
But how can he get rid of these binds?

Mello sees another room with the door open a small amount. "Hold on. I'm going to see if there's anything I can pick the lock with in this other room."
"Ok. Hurry." Near responds.
Mello nods. "Just sit tight." He then gets up and rushes over to the room just across the hall. He pushes open the door causing it to creak. He looks around in the room only to notice it's getting darker outside making the inside of the buildings light dimmer and dimmer. He grabs the weapon and lights a piece of wood he'll need to watch out for when the flames get too close. He goes into the room and takes a look around. He finds it looks like an office. He heads over to the damaged oak wood desk and looks to the chair that looks so torn up he wonders how it's still standing. He decides to kneel instead of try the chair and he begins looking in the drawers of the desk.
There are papers that look to have been there awhile as well as equipment you would expect a scientist to have in his or her desk.
Until finally in the bottom drawer of the one side he finds a box of paper clips.
He takes a handful then hurries back to the closed door he needs to open. "Step away from the door in case it swings inwards. I'm going to pick the lock." He says putting down the burning wood onto the tile floor. He then puts the handful of paper clips on the ground and grabs one straightening it. He begins to try to pick the lock.
Concentrating hard on doing this.
He knows that there is no time to waste.
A beast or even darker Near could walk around the corner at any second.
His heart slightly speeding up as the adrenaline of the dangerous situation settles into him. He slightly bites his tongue in concentration as he continues using everything he knows about picking locks into work to get this door open.
Gotta hurry!

Allen and Igneous are walking down a hall with many doors mostly open letting them glance inside though Allen doubts Near would be in a room with an open door anyways, it's better to make sure then to completely miss seeing Near.
The two continue on down the seemingly long hall way.
Igneous seems to be feeling braver as they haven't run into trouble with beasts yet.
Up ahead is another area where you can only go left or right.
Footsteps ahead begin to approach making Allen and Igneous stop walking.
Igneous quickly moves behind Allen who gets ready to fight the most likely enemies approaching.
The footsteps continue to approach getting a little louder as they get closer and seem to echo a little.
The suspense is heavy in the air.
Allen makes sure the weapon is ready to be fired at any second.
The process includes flipping open the top part of the lighter causing the flame to be lit ready to be used.
Two shadows, human shadows, appear on the walls one coming from either direction.
Allen tenses.
The two people arrive and stop walking as soon as they have fully walked into view only to turn to Allen and Igneous.
….
Mello finally gets the lock opened causing him to smile when he hears the soft click of the lock opening. "Got it!" He says standing up and grabs the handle. He opens the door that opens outward.
Near is standing in about the middle of the small dark room. He has his hands behind his back patiently waiting as Mello had picked the lock. He looks up to Mello with a smile. "Mello."
Mello is glad to see Near is alright.
Near moves his arms to his sides and walks towards Mello. "Thanks for coming to find me." He says and stops walking when he's pretty much in front of Mello.
Mello suddenly pulls him into a hug.
"Mello?" Near says as his eyes flicker to look to Mello as best he can without moving his head.
Mello rest his chin on the back of Near's shoulder. "I thought I lost you."
Near blinks staying silent for a moment then raises his arms to return the hug. He closes his eyes once he is returning the hug. "But you didn't." He responds.
Mello hugs him a little tighter. "And am I so damn glad that I didn't." He responds.
The two pull away after a few moments.
"Let's get going." Mello says.
Near nods.
Mello lights another piece of wood letting Near hold it.
They begin walking down the hall.
"Do you know your way around in here?" Mello asks.
"Yes. This was my fathers lab." Near says as his face shows he's trying to seriously concentrate to try to find the best way to go from his memory of this place. "But the destruction of it makes it a little different at the same time." He says glancing side to side as they walk.
One hand from each of them is joined together.
"That's ok. It's good you at least know your way around here." Mello says and he can't stop smiling but he doesn't mind that.
A smile creeps onto Near's lips.
They keep walking until they reach a place with three halls.
One to go left, right and straight ahead.
But they actually stopped since right in the space where all of the four halls you can walk down is connected are two or three beasts!
Mello lets go of Near's hand and raises the weapon ready to fire at the beasts that turn noticing them. He looks quite determined. "Go to Hell!" He fires the weapon at the first beast that charges towards them.
The beast screeches in pain as it is badly burnt but not taken out.
Mello smirks as he realizes that one blast won't be able to defeat the beasts but if the fire has enough force like how the weapon makes the fire more intense then they can at least damage the beasts. He fires again as the other two beasts charge also burning them.
They screech and stumble trying to recover but leaving an open space that should allow Mello and Near to run right past the beasts.
Mello turns to look to Near.
