Chapter thirty five:

AN:

This is the rewritten/more detailed in some parts version of the ending.

I sat on the ending for a bit and found I regretted how it turned out.

So here is a better version of it but I will keep the original ending up for anyone who preferred that ending.

Mello.

The beast leader stands in front of most of the other beasts. He speaks in beast language. "The darker human may no longer be with us but that only means there will be more in it for us!"

The other beasts cheer in excited agreement.

With darker Near gone now the beasts can take over and it'll be all theirs.

The beast leader is glad about this and had been wishing for darker Near to leave for quite a bit especially after they became more stable as a group.

This world will be theirs!

That is on their minds now.

They will own this world!

…..

That morning Near is the first to awaken as the sunlight streams through onto his face.

He scrunches his eyes up then opens them to half way. He is still cuddled against Mello who is still keeping alert for any signs of danger. He finds himself smiling and he doesn't want to move.

Not yet.

But the sunlight keeps shining relentlessly in his eyes making him hate the sunlight.

He groans opening his eyes to glare in the direction of the sunlight.

Mello chuckles as he sees this. "Well good morning sweet heart." He says.

Near turns his head to look to Mello. "Good morning." He says.

Mello leans down and gives Near's lips a loving quick kiss. "Well as much as I would love to stay like this with you we should get going."

"I know." Near shifts away from Mello slipping out of the others grip. He stretches.

The fire is burned out, probably has been for a little bit.

Mello gets to his feet and heads to awaken the others.

Near joins in on helping him with that.

The group gathers their stuff and once again begin their journey.

Mello and Near's hands are linked as they remain in the lead.

Kaori and Igneous playing games like tag as they walk and Matt following alongside Mello and Near.

Nera refuses to help them defeat the beasts and if he goes too far from Near he will turn to the black smoke only to return to the jewel.

They continue to fight the beasts which is now their only enemy as they fight to stay alive. They grew up as they continued to wander fighting and fighting the beasts.

Though they do know how to kill the beasts it not only takes a lot of the fire power by having at least two of the weapons being fired at the beasts and there is so many beasts that it is unlikely that they will destroy them all in their life time.

They have met a stray survivor here and there as they go along through their journey hoping to destroy as many beasts as they can and to survive.

….

It has been quite a while now.

Kaori and Igneous are more grown up along with Kaori has become pregnant with Igneous's child.

On their journey to stay alive they have met another male. This male is about the same age as Igneous maybe a small bit older a year at most. He has blonde hair that is a little long and pulled back into a pony tail with the red elastic being closer to the bottom of his hair but still holding his hair back. He is wearing faded teal green vest over his grey long sleeved shirt and dark tinted jeans with light brown runners. He has brilliant blueish grey eyes.

Near has found that the male is a perfect successor to take on the darkness. He has worked hard to train this successor so he's ready to take on the darkness.

The survivors are walking along and turn a corner as they are along the edges of a forest. They have come face to face with a horde of beasts. They reach for their weapons however they stop as there is a scream of horror.

The rest spin around.

Kaori who had paused for a moment and doesn't have a weapon because they want to be careful since she is carrying a child is now finding a horde of beasts coming out of the forest.

A few head for the rest and a few head for Kaori.

"Look out!" Matt dashes towards Kaori. He realizes that he doesn't have time to draw his weapon and fire before Kaori is hurt so he throws himself in the way of the beasts attempted attack.

The beasts stab Matts body.

Matt gasps and opens his mouth in a silent scream as all that comes out is blood.

Kaori stares at this with wide eyes.

Matt gives Kaori a pained look silently telling her to run.

Igneous rushes towards Kaori and grabs her hand only to quickly rush away together.

Mello and Near have been taking care of the other beasts but Near notices Matt's limp body impaled by the beasts then Kaori and Igneous running past them.

Near grabs Mello's hand and they too run after Kaori and Igneous.

"Wait! Matt!" Mello looks back only for his eyes to widen as he catches a glimpse of Matt's body just before the beasts surround it. He looks to where they are going saddened by Matt's death.

They all are and Kaori keeps saying that Matt is her hero.

What Matt did was give his life to protect Kaori not letting them get close to her as he uses his body as a shield to protect her.

The group has continued.

It's three weeks after Matt's death and they can still feel the lingering sadness of losing the red head.

The day before Near gave the successor the jewel saying that he is ready but the successor must get the feel of the jewel before he can summon the darkness.

It will take a day or two just to make sure that the jewel transfers it's magic and control of the darkness to the successor.

They have found themselves in a town that is more like destroyed ruins like this place was attacked by a serial killer who killed as many as he could as well as destroy buildings as much as he could.

There isn't anywhere to get safely into about half of the buildings.

Near hears something in the alley way making him pause. He turns and sees someone running with a beast chasing.

The person Near hasn't seen before. A young female who is still a child. Her hair is the color of a raven and her eyes are a really dark purple color with tan skin. She is mostly quiet compared to the others. She wears a pull over black hoodie and black sweats with black runners. She suddenly trips over some rocks left from a part of a destroyed building. She falls then scrambles to turn around staring horrified at the beast as it slows till it stops hovering over the girl.

Near knows he can't leave her. He dashes towards her.

Mello was about to start talking to Near. "Say Near." Is all he says before he turns around only to see Near rushing towards the girl who is just barely out of the alley and a beast comes into view moving towards the girl. "NEAR!" He gives chase after Near with the other survivors following.

Near throws himself over Blake protectively like a mother would to protect a child.

The beast attacks Near who takes the hits.

Mello grabs the weapon he is carrying and aims it at the beast. "NO ONE FUCKING HURTS NEAR!" He screams then fires at the beast until the beast is nothing more than an extra crispy beast.

The beast falls backwards landing on it's back on the ground not moving.

Mello quickly rushes to Near throwing the weapon to the ground and rolls Near carefully off of the girl.

Near's wounds look bad.

The girl sits up. "Thank you." She says.

Mello doesn't notice and Near seems to be on the edge of the spirit world and reality also known as the living world.

"No. No! No. No!" Mello repeats as he tries to stop the bleeding getting blood all over him. "NO!" He continues desperately. "NO! Don't die!" He panics as Near's eyes start to close. "NO! Don't you dare close your eyes!" He leans down giving Near's lips a sweet and loving kiss before pulling away to look to Near's face. "Near!" He starts screaming Near's name after he notices Near's eyes are closed along with his head along with his body going imp. "NEAR!" He screams the others name as loud as he can.

The others wince as they realize that they have lost Near.

"NO!" Mello throws his head back with a scream of sorrow and heart break as he realizes as well that he has lost Near.

The survivors make a grave out of the rocks of rubble from destroyed homes for Near.

Mello sat right beside the now pile of rocks that is Near's grave for the entire day and night refusing to leave as he stares at the grave.

The other survivors set up camp close by but gave Mello some space.

A month later.

Mello has been so down about Near's death.

The survivors thought Matt's death was bad but the emotional toll for Mello on Near's death that only was about three weeks after Matt's death is like Mello had been hollowed out by some kind of savage.

After walking in the country side, lucky to not find a single beast in that time, for a month they finally spot another town up ahead.

They head towards it and they enter only to stop.

Right there is a group of beasts as if ready for war as they stand in a line like solders.

Mello blinks when he sees them only for his eyes to narrow in rage as he growls lowly in a dangerous sounding tone.

The beasts have taken so much away from Mello that his rage has been building up it is now exploding uncontrollably like a nuclear bomb just went off.

Mello grabs his weapon and runs forward with a loud battle like cry. He is in the front lines of this battle.

The survivors with their currently limited weapons grab them and follow Mello forward to the battle field.

Mello blasts a beast that comes after him causing another to come after him while the survivors and beasts clash in a war made of a mix of slashing and flames. He tries to destroy as many as he could. He notices the others are struggling and it was a slap in the face with the brick of reality. He knows he has to get them out of here. "GO!" He calls to the other survivors. "ESCAPE!" He tries to keep the beasts as focused on him as he could as he keeps telling the others to go.

The others rush off thinking that Mello probably will find a way to lose the beasts then meet them….. That doesn't happen.

Some of the survivors look back watching what happens to Mello.

Suddenly beasts attack Mello ignoring those running.

Mello is quickly outnumbered and is slashed at brutality as he tries to fight back.

The survivors with weapons tell the others to stop then they turn and race back to help Mello. They rejoin the fight and at some point in the fight Mello fell to the ground unable to stand any longer. The survivors defeated all the beasts… But for Mello it was too late…. and he only lasted for a few moments to see the beasts be taken down.

Just before Mello dies he smiles softly. "I'm proud of you." He croaks out then dies.

The survivors wanted to bury Mello with Near so they dragged Mellos body on a sled like thing Igneous managed to build back to the other town only to bury him right beside Near's grave. They mourned for a bit then they left to continue on their journey.

Years later….

Igneous and Kaori are in their late adults years.

Kaori has a young child that is her own and Igneous's child.

The child has Igneous's hair and Kaori's face.

Igneous and Kaori are accompanied by the few other survivors that they currently have in the spot they have decided to rest in.

The survivors are….

A slightly younger teen girl who has ginger hair and hot chocolate colored eyes. She has slightly pale skin and is wearing a dark pink t-shirt that's a little baggy on her, black pants that can stretch nicely and dark brown runners. Her name is Jenna.

A slightly older male who is the eldest, though Igneous and Kaori have taken over as the leaders, who looks like a movie star. His dark brown hair slightly wind swept back and his shining light blue eyes mixed with a slightly tight fitting dark brown shirt with dark grey pants as well as knee high dark brown boots that are almost like rain boots. His name is Nick.

A young female who is at least two years away from being a teenager. Her hair is the color of a raven and her eyes are a really dark purple color with tan skin. She is mostly quiet compared to the others. She wears a pull over black hoodie and black sweats with black runners. Her name is Blake.

Then finally another male.

He has brilliant blueish grey eyes and wears the jewel that had been handed down to him by Near letting this male be the next successor of taking care of the darkness. He has named the darkness Luna after the Roman mythology goddess of the moon and is quite fond of the darkness almost as if seeing the darkness as his own person, still keeping the looks from when Near recaptured him, instead of just a mass of darkness. He truly has a special connection with the darkness and the darkness also seems to sense something special between the two of them. His name is Mera.

Igneous is currently writing in the book that will soon be filled up since they all had been writing in about their adventures.

Even as the death's of those that we looked up to seem to still slightly loom over us we know that we must be grateful for their lives and all that they have done for us.

Matt who sacrificed himself when we came face to face with a horde of beasts when a few went after my dear Kaori who was pregnant at the time early along the pregnancy. He wouldn't let the beasts get anywhere close to her and died letting her escape with her life.

Near who threw himself over Blake who had tripped when being chased by a beast. He let the beast kill him while using his body like a shield over Blake.

Mello who went to the front lines of the battle when we faced a group of beasts. Rushing into the fight trying to destroy as many as he could keeping the beasts as focused on him as he could telling us to go, to escape. He was quickly outnumbered and though we defeated all the beasts it was too late for him and he lasted for a few moments to see the beasts be taken down then to tell us he's proud of us before dying.

We may never truly be able to thank them for all they have done for us such as raise us and take us in like we were their own children. But if I could I would try to find words to explain how truly grateful we are.

They are our heroes and they always will be our heroes.

Igneous stops there reading over it with a smile. He closes the book then turns to look to Kaori.

Kaori smiling fondly at their child is quite a beautiful scene to Igneous.

Igneous glances around to the others. He almost chuckles as the sudden thought of the man that had drowned himself in a toilet before he knew he wasn't the last person alive… And that's how they found him. He turns his smiling face to the sky as he lets himself remember his whole life. "Life is truly beautiful despite the evil always looming over us." He says mostly to himself.

The group begins to get ready for rest as night approaches.

Igneous knows it's his turn for watch duty. He wishes his love and everyone else, all who are like family to him, a goodnight then sits in a good spot to keep watch.

The night appears to be peaceful but then Igneous hollers in alarm as he dashes forward attacking the beast that got too close.

The others are awakened and escape… Kaori glances back only to watch in horror as Igneous's throat is sliced open.

Kaori is slightly dragged off by Blake who knows that they can't let Igneous's sacrifice be for nothing.

Things were never truly the same afterwards.

Kaori fell into depression and Mera took charge especially after Kaori gave her life protecting her child named Grey from being hit by part of a building that fell apart pushing him out of the way.

Grey was only eight when Kaori gave her life for him. He grew into a strong leader.

Sadly they realized that the book had been lost somewhere with Kaori.

Many years later…

Humanity has begun to try to bring itself back onto its feet.

As if starting from pretty much scratch mostly letting the ruins be left as gruesome reminder of the invasion that almost consumed the world.

The weapons over the years have become more and more advanced.

Now the people are more skilled in fighting beasts than ever before.

One day a small group of teenagers is walking through some of the ruins.

They stumble upon a pile of rubble and one kicks one piece of it only to uncover a book that looks old.

The teen leans down and picks it up. She opens to a random page. "Hey this has my great grandmother's name." She gasps as she finds the name Kaori in the list of names on the inside cover telling of all those that had created the book.

A male of the group turns to look to the female. "I heard about it. Apparently it was lost when Kaori gave her life." He says.

"That means that this is her grave." The female notes looking to the pile.

The group respectfully leaves the pile alone.

The book had been recovered almost as if the female had been destined to recover it.

Humanity continued to rebuild itself and continued fighting the beasts like a never ending fight between the two groups of humans and beasts.

The beasts will never truly win and the humans will never truly win either as they find themselves on much more equal playing ground.

The end.
