Chapter 20: Purity
From the remains of the crimson alter appeared a large, colorless circle. It seemed out of place- it was two dimensional almost. It was there, but not. It wasn't opaque, nor transparent.
Terraria was a world of strange things. Oddities, and shadows. Yet this topped them all.
Xyvaren stared into it with horror. HI mouth opened, but no sound came out. He was stretched and twisted, before being shredded to pieces and sucked through the circle.
Dryad soon met the same fate as Xyvaren, sucked through the circle. She maintained an air of dignity as she was destroyed.
The second the last remains of dryad and Xyvaren were pulled through the circle vanished. It disappeared. It was there, then it wasn't.
Lying in the shattered pieces of the crimson alter was Logrolf. The hammer which smashed the crimson alter lay beside him.
"Thank you Logrolf. I do not think I could have made that decision without you," I said, kneeling next to him.
"I need no thanks. I am happy to have helped. But now I must pay the price for what I did," Logrolf said.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"That was your decision. I made it for you. Nothing can save me from the grips of death now, for I have exploited the rules of the universe, which say that only a player can destroy a crimson alter," Logrolf replied. The strength in his voice ebbed as he spoke.
"If that is so, then rest knowing you saved Terraria," I said sadly.
He smiled one last time.
"Goodbye, Vald," he said. He closed his eyes and fell limp.
As he died, a ray of sunlight shone through the cave opening and onto the floor. The rocks around me slowly changed to a natural gray color, and the patches of grass became green.
I removed my helmet, and dropped it on the ground.
I left the cave and beheld a beautiful sight- purity.
It almost reminded me of Earth. How the sun shone on the grass, and the trees blew gently. I heard the chirping of birds, and the gentle flowing of a stream of water.
I had done this. I had achieved Purity. Terraria was saved, and I was responsible.
