(Peaks from behind the wall of shame I've been living behind). Hi guys, so sorry this chapter has taken a long time. Life has been rough, with school and such. But I'm on spring break this week so hopefully I can get a few chapters out. Please review in order to motivate me to get the next chapter up by tomorrow night. Next chapter Is going to be EPIC! Thank you for your patience and enjoy!
The next few weeks ended up being hell on Berk busy. Dad was running, and flying around trying to get the island, prepared for his absence; and over have of the voyagers dropped out as soon as they found out I was coming along. The rest of the island was happy I was leaving, well, everyone but Stoick; and not for the reason that I was hoping.
"Why does she get to go?" Stoick fired at the table when Dad told mom and him I was going on the peace voyage. I'm scribbling in my journal new ideas, dad looks like he's searching for an answer, mom Stoick puts his elbows on the table looks up to dad and pouts by protruding his bottom lip out so far I think it might fall off "Shouldn't this be a family sort of thing?" he states "sadly".
I eye him as I poke at my fish. I know that he's trying to do, a trick he's played since he was little. Whenever he doesn't get what he wants he plays up what he calls "the charmer". It works on everyone in the village, everyone, but my parents. Why hasn't he picked this up on this yet? I will never know.
"Stoick," mom stay "Put that lip back where it was before I yank it off."
"Yes ma'am." Stoick quickly sits back
"Son, you know I'm going to need you here." Dad states as he delicately tries to cut the chicken mom has made. "You have your classes to attend, and.."
"She.." Stoick points to me "Hasn't even been going to any of the classes! Why does she get a free pass? This isn't fair!"
I eye dad, and dad eyes mom with the "help me" sort of look, and mom gives the "you're on your own honey" look back to him. When did I become so good at reading people's looks?
"First of all." Dad says pointing his finger in the air "Rori not going to her classes, will be dealt with."
"Well, that's a first." Stoick stated
"You guys know I'm right here. Right?" I say
"Second of all" dad says putting another finger up "This is a trip Rori, and I need to take together, not only for her to learn, but to grow."
"She does need a lot of growing." Stoick mumbled under his breath.
"I can still hear you." I say louder while I'm carefully adding new touches to my notebook.
"And third of all" my dad says holding up three fingers "Rori needs.."
"I'm right here!" I say in an explosion. Dad says I get the explosive side from mom; and now everyone is staring at me.
I'm awkwardly looking around as Stoick has a fork in his mouth, and mom and dad are giving me quite to look of shock. I hardly explode.
"I'm…I'm gonna go," I say as I scoot my chair back, hop down , and begin the walk of shame backwards to the door "I got some uh, packing that I need to uh; you know what I'm just gonna go, to pack up a few things" I point to the door "…..outside." I step outside and close the door, step backwards, and then proceed to fall down the stairs in front of my house.
While people are staring, I make my way toward the forge; correction, I run to the forge, trying to hold back tears. I don't know what's wrong with me, I never cry but for some reason what's happening right now, is hitting me hard. I've always known I was unwanted, but this is the first time I actually felt unwanted.
I finally get into the forge and hold my knees in order to catch my breath; after that's done I slowly get up, and see my reflection in a metal slab leaning against the wall. I see what I always see, a small stick of disappointment.
I walk up to my reflection; raise my fist ready to give it a punch in the face.
"Oi!" I hear behind me as I whip around to see Gobber entering the forge.
"You know you have to heat that metal before you can bend it with your wee little hands." He states sarcastically.
I clasp my hands in front of me "Yeah, I know" I say looking at the floor
Gobber smiles "Aw, stop with the sappy smile and get back to work."
"Yes, your crankiness." He turns around and heads out. I turn around and see my reflection staring back at me. I sigh at my awkward freckled face, crooked teeth, my mom's bright blue eyes, and my dad's red hair.
You know what? I may not be the best person on Berk but I'm a Haddock, no, I'm a proud Haddock and I'm gonna do great things; and it's all gonna start with this voyage. I may mess up, but this is my chance to explore different waters, find new Tidals. Maybe I can finally do something great! Mabye…
"Rori! How come I hear no working in there!" Shouted Gobber
"Ok I'm going."
I may not look like much. But hopefully I have enough of my mom and dad in me to do something.
"Rori, are you in there" "Rori?" I hear mom dad, and Toothless coming my way. Well, I guess an apology is in order.
I look back at my reflection and smile. "Rori Val Haddock" I say to myself "Let's go do something right."
