Africa, in all its' sunny glory, is not a good source of entertainment. Every day is a repetition of the day before. Wake up, eat, patrol, eat, patrol, sleep, and repeat. We've been here three months and there is very little to do around here. Every so often our camp is attacked, but the threat is eliminated so quickly that the thrill of the fight isn't enough to suffice our ever growing boredom.
"Do they plan to leave us here for the rest of eternity?" I huff in frustration with Bane as we patrol the perimeter. The sun heats my skin so much that I never think I'll be cold again. Bane's mask has to be uncomfortable to wear in this temperature, but Talia ordered and he will follow her orders. He looks down at me, as sweat trickles down his brow.
"Surely not, especially not for an eternity."
"Well it feels that way."
His phone rings and he snatches it out of his pocket to flip it open.
"Yes."
He starts pacing while he speaks to the caller.
"Yes, the perimeter is still secure."
"Yes, we should be ready by tonight."
He slams the phone closed and looks back at me. A smile slowly crosses his face and his eyes wrinkle.
"We depart this hell in the night."
My face mirrors his as I hug him with excitement.
"Barsad and a few others will be joining us while the rest of The League remains here to keep the sight secure. Dagget has assignments for us to complete in Gotham."
"We should inform Barsad. I'm sure he'll be just as happy to finally leave this place as we are."
We advance to Barsad, who is trying to cool off in the little shade that his tent provides. He looks up upon our approach and quickly sits up. I can't hold my grin back and he looks confused. I break the ice, "We are finally leaving Barsad."
"We leave for Gotham tonight, upon the request of Dagget himself."
Although Barsad doesn't smile outwardly, you can see the mirth in his eyes.
"It's about damn time"
-That night-
The plane lands around the sight were the first plane dropped us off. We hurrily carry our equipment and seat ourselves on the commercial plane. I unsurprisingly sleep through the ride to Gotham. Bane wakes me when we arrive and I quickly look to the window. I have never seen buildings as tall as these before. Bane tugs my arm and we grab our luggage. A van awaits us outside and it takes us through the city and stops in an alley behind a building. An odd looking man in a suit with pitch black hair escorts to a set of stairs and we climb.
He finally stops at a set of French doors on the 5th floor and knocks before stepping aside. A yell from inside invites us in. Bane enters first with me behind him. A tiny man is sitting on a white, expensive looking couch in what appears to be a lounge area. He's dressed fancily in a suit and sipping a drink from a glass.
"Welcome to Gotham. I am your employer John Dagget. You may refer to me by only Dagget."
He stands and approaches us slowly while occasionally sipping his drink. He stops in front of Bane and I.
"Hmmm, so I suppose the rumors are true about your mask." He unabashedly stares at the metal protruding from Bane's face. "I assume you are the leader of this group. Though, I haven't heard anything about your lovely sidekick before. And what's your name honey?" His leering gaze turns from Bane to me and my skin prickles at the disgusting look in his eye.
Bane moves so I am slightly behind him, "Her name is unimportant. What is it you brought us here for? Surely not just for us to stand here as you speak to yourself."
Sorry for the wait guys. I kind of lost the passion for the story. Though I am going to continue it now. My life has been kind of hectic lately. My mother had a miscarriage, my dog was ran over, and anytime I had access to the internet I was working on an online college course. I haven't really has a whole lot of time to work on this. I don't even know if anyone's reading it anymore, but for those of you who are, I will finish this story.
