Canada was at his breaking point... He'd have to console America when England was in a coma. France had been refusing to go to therapy, and was suffering in secret... Belarus wasn't looking to fresh either... And Norway had been put in a hospital too... Everyone was suffering, or needed him to console them for something! That was the only reason anybody EVER noticed him nowadays! "Canada, will you listen to me? I'm feeling kind of down..." was all he heard left and right... He had been okay with it in the beginning, he liked being of use. But then nearly everyone had gone to him for advice... And after that left him to his own busyness without hearing him out, and he was growing tired of it...
Every night... He would have nightmares... Of everybody laying unmoving in a puddle of their own blood, and Alice standing triupmhantly at their feet... And he had been too scared to do anything... Their dead eyes, all accusing him... "Why didn't you help me? Why did you let me die? You should have been the one to get hurt! Not England, not Norway, not France, not Italy! But you didn't even try to stop her, because you're a selfish bastard! Coward!"
Canada shivered as he stared down at his bear. What was it's name again? Ah... What does it matter? The bear never remembered him either... Much like everyone else really... Canada sighed, sniffling to keep the unshed tears at bay...
He was so busy that he didn't hear the aproaching footsteps from behind, not until something bumped into him at least... He looked up at the one who interrupted his thoughts, and immediately regretted that he did. For as he did so, he came face-to-face with Russia...
"G-good evening!" Canada whispered, feeling his voice shake.
Russia smiled widely at him"добрый вечер Canada~~" he replied as he leaned backwards.
Canada gulped, trying his best to keep a smile on his face "W-was there someting you needed?" he tried, shaking all the while.
Russia seemed to think, not noticing all the shaking. "Net... I was just thinking that you looked lonely is all..." he said after a while.
Canada smiled a little "Ah, no i'm not lonely! I have... ummm... i have my bear!" he rushed as he held the bear up for the russian to see.
And to Canada's horror the bear looked around, then said "Who are you?"
Canada began to laugh nervously "W-what are you talking about, I'm Canada!" he tried to smile, but found it to wilt rather quickly.
Russia cocked his head to the side "Hmm~~ You seem pretty lonely to me... I know! Let's go for coffee! My treat!" the russian smiled sweetly, and for the first time ever, Canada did not feel scared or nervous, for all traces of malicious intent evaporated the very instant the word "Coffee" left his mouth.
Canada stood frozen for a moment, before slowly nodding "S-sure... Okay..." he had to admit he was kind of surprised, he had never been invited to coffee or anything unless it was buisiness related...
Oh... Perhaps the Russian man wanted something from him?
Russia grinned "Great! I know a good place!" he grabbed the smaller man's hand and literally dragged him off. And soon they were standing in front of a local Cafè. The place was small and cute, and the instant they entered, the delicious scent of chocolate and coffee entered his nosthrils.
He found himself smiling without meaning to.
"Very cute place..." he mumbled, and Russia nodded.
They found a small round table of glass ith to metal chairs on each end, and sat down in it. A waitress soon appeared and asked if she could take their orders.
Canada froze and looked to Russia for help, Russia grinned "I'd like two white mochas and two slices of strawberry cheescake please~~" he smiled, the waitress nodded with a "Coming right up!" before leaving.
Russia blinked once "oh, sorry! I didn't mean to order for you! You just looked kind of lost, and i wanted you to try some, because the cheescake is divine here..." he looked down at his gloved hands.
Canada rapidly shook his head "Oh no! It's fine, really! I did feel kind of lost for a second there, so it's okay, really!" he smiled sincerly.
Russia nodded once, resting his chin on his gloved hands. When the waitress came with their order, Russia thanked her and then took a sip of the coffee.
Canada did the same, almost moaning when the bittersweet taste of the warm deliciousness overtook his sense of taste.
Russia then cleared his throat, snappng Canada out of his trance with a serious expression he said "Right, now for what i wanted to talk to you about..." he started, making Canada cock his head slightly in confusion.
Russia blinked once, a little taken back, had the canadian always been this cute? Huh, he'd never noticed... He then shook his head slightly before saying "Have you been feeling allright lately? You seem... tired..." he finished, making a swirly gesture with his hand.
Canada, a little taken back blinked a few times "Excuse me?"
Russia sighed "Well, all the stuff with Alice made everyone all depressed and some even traumatized, and most people complain a lot about it... And you've seemed pretty down lately... you have talked to someone if you've had a problem, da?" he tried again, raising a brow as he talked.
Canada blinked a few times, taking a sip of his coffee as he thought of a reply, he figured he'd go with the half truth "No, i haven't really talked about it... But i wasn't really affected in any way..." he laughed.
The russian frowned, leaning in closer "Now that's not true... I believe that everybody was affected in some way or another, da? The expereince was really frightening afterall..." he sighed.
Canada only shook his head "Still, i wasn't really that involved, i didn't do anythin afterall..." he chuckled softly.
Russia hummed, taking a sip of his coffee. His eyes however, hid an oncoming storm, about to break out.
Canada quickly averted his gaze, quickly sipping his drink, trying his best to ignore the searing pain in his throat.
Russia shook his head and smiled "You're not supposed to drink it that fast you know... Did you burn your tongue?" he smiled kindly, but Canada could still see the faint storm in his eyes.
Canada meekly nodded, earning another chuckle.
Russia then said "I know how you helped..." his voice was calm, serious.
The canadian looked up from his drink, confused.
Russia chuckled again "I heard you've been taking on the job of therapist?" he smiled.
Canada nodded again "Y-yeah, i guess so huh..." he laughed nervously "I-it's silly really... It hasn't really done much to help anyway..." he laughed again.
Russia looked out of the window "Heeeh~~? Is that so? It's not what i've heard at least... heard China was talking to you yesterday..." the smile never left his face, but he slowly turned his head towards the canadian again "Apparently, you had made him feel a lot better..." he finished with a smile.
Canada's eyes widened oh, so that's what he wanted... To thank him? He couldn't help the smile blush that dusted his cheeks. He then looked up "You and China, are you two?" he felt bad, but couldn't help but ask.
Russia looked confused for about two seconds, before he burst out laughing "Oh net, net! We are simply friends! I admit; I may have had feelings for him a few hundred years back... But i simply see him as a friend now!" he chuckled.
Canada nodded slowly, feeling a little embarrassed.
"What about you and Prussia? You two seem pretty close?" Russia questioned, he still had that sweet smile on his face, but his eyes flared for but a second.
Canada's face flushed "Oh, oh nono! He's just a friend!" Canada chuckles "He's one of the few people who acknowledge me is all... Even though he's quite fun to talk to!" he laughed.
Russia laughed too, but he didn't seem too happy.
"you know..." Russia started when their laughter died down "If there's anything bothering you, you could always talk to me, da?" he smiled.
Canada's head snapped up "R-really? You mean it?" his eyes sparkled with a happiness Russia hadn't seen since before the Alice incident. He nodded "Da, i mean it...".
Canada's gaze slowly travelled down to the table "Y-you won't forget right?" he asked, just to be sure.
Russia nodded once more "I won't forget... I promise, so smile a little, da?"
Canada smiled "Okay... I- I'll try... I'll tell you what's on my mind, but it'll have to be somewhere more private..." he looked around nervously.
Russia nodded "Yeah... The nice waitress ladies are quite the gossipers..." he sighed.
They finished the coffee and cake in silence, tipped the waitress and left.
As they headed down the street together, Canada felt oddly skittish, well... Who wouldn't? This was Friggin russia for god's sake! But Canada felt skittish for a completely different reason: It was a good kind of skittish... Like butterflies in his stomach...
As he was thinking about this, he didn't notice the guy that stumbled along, right towards them. The guy grinned sheepishly, and threw his arm around Canada's shoulders as he passed, Canada squeaked in surprise "Wh-wha?" he stuttered. The guy laughed, and hiccuped "Hello there... Cutiepie..." he slurred, pulling the poor canadian closer "Never seen you around before... Wanna go for a drink? I'll pay... And then we can go back to my place so i can ra-" he didn't get any further, for suddenly, the guy was lying on the ground, Russia clutching on to the guy's collar "Touch him again and you die..." he hissed, slamming the guy's head against the ground once, before grabbing hold of Canada's arm.
Canada was still trying to process what had just happened, it had literally taken ten seconds... But now Russia was furious... For some reason? Even stranger, Canada didn't feel scared at all... Was it the shock? Or did he really trust Russia that much..? Despite the situation Canada found himself smiling, his face slightly flushing as he stared down at Russia's hand. If he had butterflies before, they were probably doing backflips by now...
Russia entered a hotel, smiling to the receptionist as he passed her, but his eyes were cold... For some odd reason, Canada felt strangely satisfied with that, and he internally scolded himself... He didn't even notice that they entered an eleveator, or even when they got off the elevator and entered a room. But he was forced out of his thoughts as Russia pushed him towards the bed. He let out an "oomph" sound as he made impact with the soft material, and he immediately shot up into a sitting position.
Russia pulled out a chair, and sat down on it "There, now we're alone..." he still seemed mildly irritated, but not nearly as angry as he had been, and that was a good thing... "FIne... I'll tell you..." Canada mumbled "Everyone is relying on me to help them feel better... But they can't be bothered to listen to what i have to say, what i want to get off of my chest... They all just want to make themselves feel better... They don't care about me..." he mumbled. Before Russia could comment, Canada coninued "I mean, it's not like i really helped out with Alice right? But it did have an impact on me... I was scared and lonely, and i just feel so useless for not doing anything... While... Everybody worked so hard..." he sniffled, feeling the tears welling up, he sniffled again wiping at his nose with his sleeve.
Russia carefully placed a hand on Canada's shoulder, all signs of anger seemed to melt off of his face. Canada looked up, and gasped as Russia's hand gently moved from his shoulder, and all the way up to his cheek. The russian then chuckled and gently pulled Canada's glasses off, startling the young canadian. "W-wait..! Russia, i can't see very well wthout my gla-" he was interrupted as something pressed against his lips. Canada froze, staring into what he thought to be Russia's violet eyes. But everything was so unclear that it was hard to tell.
He squeaked against whatever was pressed up against him, but before he could do anything, Russia leaned back before patting his head affectionately. "You're not useless... i still think you were very brave... You helped everybody no? So don't worry... You can talk to me about me, no need for tears..." he smiled. Canada nodded quickly, unsure of what to feel. Russia then clapped his hands together "Oh i know!" he smiled sweetly "Come back here tomorrow at three pm... I have a surprise for you!" he giggled. Canada cocked his head to the side, his bangs slidling into his eyes "H-huh?"
Canada sighed, staring at the numbers of Russia's hotelroom. He could hear no sound from inside, and it seemed like the lights weren't on... Perhaps he should just return home instead? But no, Russia would surely get furious... Canada knocked once before entering "Excuse my intrusion..." he mumbled, and gave off a very unmanly shriek as everyone popped out from behind the couch, bed and even in the closets and form the bathroom. "Surprise!" They all yelled, huge grins on their faces. Canada froze "W-what is this?" he mumbled, blinking a few times in confusion. America laughed loudly "Dude! It''s a thank you party! Because you've been really awesome towards us after everything with Alice!" he grinned. Canada glanced around the room and his eyes landed on Russia, who smiled encouragingly. Canada smiled softly, so everyone really did appreciate him...
England cleared his throat "Well, yes... I am so sorry for not considering how you must have felt through all of this... i was so busy with everything else, that i didn't even take the time to listen to your side of the story..." he sighed. Canada shook his head "N-no, not at all... You've been taking on all of our problems without question... it must have been hard on you..." he mumbled. England laughed softly "Well, yes i suppose... But excuses should still nit be necessary... i am very sorry..." he bit his lower lip. Canada trembled, so tey did care... He sniffled once, glancing over at Russia before smiling widely.
"Thank you..."
Russia smiled, waving slightly and mouthed
"You're welcome!"
