She cocked her head to the side and puffed out her cheeks, where was she!? They had promised to meet up an hour ago! Alice was NEVER late! Emily sighed out loud, it was usually herself that was late... And she had even promised not to take them to McDonalds this time.
Had something happened? Another hour passed and Emily was oficially getting pissed. Had Alice forgotten their date? No, Alice was too stuck up and proper for that... Something must have come up... Emily stood up, a sad sigh passing by her lips, maybe Alice was getting bored of her already? Maybe she was starting to regret accepting her confession? They had only been dating for about a month anyway...
By the time she got home she was filled with so many depressed thought that she burst out crying as soon as she stepped into her house... She picked up her cellphone and quickly typed in a number, after two beeps the reciever picked up. "Hello?" a squeaky japanese sounding voice could be heard over the line, and Emily immediately began trying to tell her friend what was going on "SAKURA!" she bawled, sniffling to herself "Alice stood me up today!" she bawled, trying to dry away her neverendng tears. Sakura remained silent for a moment, before saying "Really?"
Emily nodded, even though her friend couldn't see her "Do you think she hates me!?" she sniffled, trying her hardest not to break down. "No, i don't think she does... She was really looking forward to this date... In fact, she wouldn't stop talking about it..." Sakura said reassuringly into the phone, and Emily immediately felt calmer, but then worry washed over her like a cold shower. Then maybe something had happened!?
Emily thanked her friend and hung up, she would try to contact Alice... She typed in Alice's number, she was practically biting her nails when the phone beeped, signalling that it was trying to connect. And then the dreaded "leave a message after the tone" message played into her ear. Emily bit her lower lip, almost panicking now. She dialled the number again, but the same thing happened this time too... Oohh fuck... Ohhhh crap... Emily squealed in worry and threw her phone to the ground.
She rushed out of her door, quickly heading over to Alice's place. She knocked multible times, but recieved no answer. Emily pulled out her spare key and unlocked the door. She peeks in, everything is dark and there is no sound whatsoever... "Alice!?" she cried out pathetically, trying to listen for reply. But none came... Emily rushed in, searching the entire house, but not finding anything. She searched Alice's study, she searched her room. It was there she found a note. It was a little seared in the edges, like it had been burned. The note smelled like Alice, but there was nothing on the note...
Emily could however, see small scratches in the paper upon closer inspection... Like somebody had written something without ink... Or maybe invisible ink? The weird thing was, that the paper was warm... Like a person kind of warm. Surely it would have cooled down in this room? It was freezing in here!
Magic perhaps? Maybe it's important!? Emily roars in frustration, and rushes downstairs to the phone. Since she left her own in pieces at home... She dials in Adelaine's number, Alice's big sister... She would probably know what was going on! After a few beeps, the phone crackles as somebody picks up " 'ello!? Alice is that you!? You better not be messin' around with me you hear!?" Adelaine shrieks at the other end. With a shaky voice Emily manges to stutter "Ehm... It's me... Emily..."
Adelaine goes quiet "Oh... 'ello... Is- uhm... Is Alice there?" she finally says, sounding awkward. Emily shakes her head "No... That's why i called you... I was wondering if you knew where she was at?" she tries to conceal her worry. Adelaine sighs "Sorry Em... We haven't heart much either... As a matter of fact, we haven't sensed her magic either..." she muses, sounding both dejected and worried... Emily bites the inside of her cheek, this is not stuff she wants to hear...
A painful throbbing settles in her chest, and as she looks out of the window, the weather has worsened, as if sensing her emotions... It's raining really hard, Emily realizes that it often rains here, but she's never seen it rain this hard before... Where could Alice be?
Emily sighs, the tears are threatening to fall again... One would thinks he was on her period or something... "I found this note though... On Alice's bed... It was weird because even though the room was freezing cold, the paper was warm..." she tries to explain.
Adelaine remains silent for a bit... Before saying "You stay where you are... I'll be over 'n a jiffy..." she then hangs up.
Emily sits down on the armrest of Alice's couch. Something bad has happened... She just knows it... No more than thirty minutes later, Adelaine is at the door. Breathing heavily. "Give me the paper" she demands, and Emily complies, not knowing what else to do. Adelaine studies it, turning it and twisting it in her hand. Finally she places her hand a few inches above this, and mumbles a few words. Her hand glows blue purple and her brow creases in consentration.
Suddenly she gasps and drops the paper. Black elegant letters spread across the paper, Emily leans over it her eyes widening. "FInd me"? Emily cocks her head to the side, what does that even mean? Adelaine stares, looks like there's more to it... But only those letters are illuminated. "What does that mean Adelaine?" Emily asks, voice shaking. Adelaine however, does not reply. She rushes out of the house, heading for the forest. Emily follows, yet she can't help but notice that the house looks considerably more eerie. The roses Alice had spent so much time caring for are all brown and wilted, the grass is growing wildly.
The sky is crimson red, and the rain has stopped. Emily rushes after Adelaine, until they both arrive at one of the many fields around Alice's house... Emily remembers playing around there when she was a kid... She spots Adelaine up ahead, she's standing as if fozen, staring at something... Emily rushes over, breathing heavily. "Adelaine?" she questions, but Adelaine shakes her head, pointing up ahead. Tears are rolling down her cheeks. Emily follows her gaze, and immediately regrets doing so. There's Alice, or something that looks like Alice... It has her shape at least, but it looks like molten lava. It's cracked and brown and fire licks at it's sides. A child is in front of the magma Alice... A small child with glasses and small pigtails... It's Alice...
Emily, who finally understands what's going on, takes careful steps towards the scene, Adelaine following. The lava Alice twitches as they approach, pieces of ash breaking of from her deteriorating body. Alice Kirkland, The united kingdom of great britain and northern ireland; Is dying and being born anew... A country can not survive without it's persona... Emily falls to her knees in front of her lover, not able to stop the tears any longer. "Y-you..." she stutters, Alice turns her molten head towards her lover, and something similar to a smile spreads across her face, causing pieces of ash and dust to fall off. "Hey..." she mumbles, sounding tired.
"Who... Who did this to you?" Adelaine questions with a shaky voice. The child version cocks her head to the side, yet says nothing. Alice coughs, that she's not dead yet makes it all much worse to see... "I- i was at the other side..." she manges to croak "I- i was being stupid... Trying to replace their England... I basically did this to myself sweetheart..." she says weakly, closing her eyes in pain.
Emily shakes her head in disbelief "B-but..." she can't even finish what she's saying. Everything is just falling apart... She closes her eyes to keep the tears back. Alice hums "Take care of the new me, won't you?" she sighs. Adelaine nods "Y-yeah... We will..." she dries away her tears. Alice nods "Good... Don't be too sad... I'm not dying forever... I'm just being reborn..." she smiles, more of her falling off. Emily nods, but she knows in the heart that even if this is true, she will never be the same...
"Hey... I love you all... Tell the others... that i love them too..." she hics, sounding like she's in pain. Emily doesn't even get to reply before Alice's chest collapses in on itself, and suddenly there's nothing but a pile of ashes there. Emily can't help but wail, no wonder... The love of her life just died. Adelaine soon follows, they just sit there, making their pain known. The little Alice looks at them both through intelligent green eyes. But when she sees that the two of them is crying, she too starts bawling. Emily sniffles, eying the little one with contempt... But even so, she can't bring herself to hate the child... She pulls the child close, hugging the little one until she stops crying.
The child is clutching the ruff of Emily's bomber jacket, feeling safe in the American's arms... Adelaine stands up, drying away her tears "L-let's head back..." she croaks, and Emily nods in agreement.
They somehow manages to get the little one to sleep when they return to the house. Emily decides to stay to keep the girl company. She can't get the pain in her chest to go away though, but somehow she falls asleep. "I love you too... Alice..." she mumbles just as sleep takes her, and upstairs the little girl smiles in her sleep, mumbling a silent "i know..."
A/N: So i was sitting there like, ok... What would stuff on Alice's side be like? So yeah, this happened XP Hope you enjoyed!
